• Came on 24th April 2008.
• To regulate the import , export , manufacture, sell, transport, distribution and
quality and use of pesticide to :-
1. Control pests
2. Ensure availability of quality pesticides
3. Allow use after efficacy and safety test
4. Awareness regarding safe and judicious use.

17. Spurious Pesticides
• Inferior formulations which fail to kill pest and cause damage to crops
• May not contain any plant protection ingredient
• 40% pesticides used in India are spurious
• Out of the total US $ 3.8 billion market, spurious pesticides account for US $ 1.5 billion
• Mostly used in Bihar, West Bengal and Orissa
• Manufactured mainly in Haryana and Delhi.

18. Pesticides Banned in India
• Pesticides Banned for manufacture, import and use - Aldrin, Benzene
Hexachloride, Calcium Cyanide, Chlordane, Copper Acetoarsenite etc.
• Pesticide formulations banned for use but their manufacture is allowed for
export - Nicotine Sulfate, Phenyl Mercury Acetate, Captafol 80% Powder etc.
• Pesticide formulations banned for import, and use - Methomyl 24% L,
Methomyl 12.5% L, Phosphamidon 85% SL, Carbofuron 50% SP etc.
• Pesticides restricted for use in India- Endosulfan, DDT, Lindane, Sodium
Cyanide etc.
