Notes de l'éditeur
I always believed that God has designed us to become the person who we are today.
He created teachers to be His representatives on Earth.
Jesus was the Greatest Teacher who ever lived among men.
We, too, are commissioned to do the same. This is the reason why we take our roles seriously.
In the Constitution, we perform a governmental task – that is to educate the youth.
It is therefore, our responsibility and accountability, to the State and to stakeholders to perform the task with excellence, with superior quality.
Gargantuan demand, yet, here we are in limbo in the new curriculum. We are groping in the dark when and how to begin.
The essence of attending teacher trainings and other workshops is deemed necessary in order for us to be –
EQUIPPED, EMPOWERED, AND ENTITLED to teach.
Today, the purpose of our gathering are to fulfill a divine appointment and to serve our stakeholders with excellence!
The H.S. is a mnemonic device that I coined in our school, Hillcrest School, so that all our teachers and non-teaching personnel will always be reminded the essence of our existence.
H is a reminder that we serve a Big Boss who never sleeps, who comforts us in our times of distress, who provides for all our needs, and who protects us at all time.
S is a reminder the purpose of why we are in the profession. We must espouse excellence in everything that we do. In our school, our mantra that are in the rooms, is OUR BEST IS OUR MISSION.
I suggest that you create a mnemonic device for your school or for yourself to help you remember.
At this point, may I ask you to group yourselves into 5 groups?
Breakout then volt-in.
Before you do what you are supposed to do, I urge you to get the others in your group.
This activity I coined, ME wanna know YOU.
December-born, raise your hand. You start!
The last person to mention all the names of the members will report.
This activity is good kick-off for Day 1.
There are many Day 1 Activities that you can use.
GML – Google Mo Lang.
Once again, here are your tasks.
Groups 1 and 4 will do the I-CNN Mo. It is an activity that uses the principle of a group dynamics. Every member has to give his or her insight on the topic. The secretary of the group will take down the answers. The assigned leader will collate and organize the answers. A reporter, who is not the secretary nor the leader, will deliver to an audience.
Groups 2 and 5 will do the Mnemonic Device. During our PEAC INSET in Lyceum, our group created a mnemonic device for all the strategies that we will use this year. We called it CMANG. It stands for Cooperative Learning, Mnemonic Device, Active Learning, Note-taking, and Graphic Organizers. You will create an acronym.
Group 3 will present their group’s output through a graphic organizer. Circles and squares…and lines.
Group 1 will do Why are we all here?
Group 2 will do What are our roles in our schools?
Group 3 will do What do we know about K-12 Curriculum?
Group 4 will do What preparations have we made so far?
Group 5 will do What factors make their education a success?
Before you start, allow me to share with you the story of Thesis.
In the beginning, all of you will assume. Of course, there are some of you who are just starting off as a newbie, a froshie. Some have already started teaching last year. Some of you have been teaching for quite sometime now. It is therefore a truth that you are grouped heterogeneously according to number of years in experience. Thus, you do the HYPETHESIS.
Of course, because of the diversity of experiences and years in the service, you will have different opinions and beliefs. The discussion will have the ANTITHESIS.
As a group, you are expected to arrive at an understanding or agreement. Your ideas may differ but your task is to create a symmetry. The leader acts as the catalyst that will gel or glue together the ideas. There will be a SYNTHESIS.
After which, your group will create the THESIS.
