As a journalist published in newspapers and magazines, my favorite stories were political, legal, and medical. I've been in the operating room for a variety of surgical procedures, such as LASIK, varicose vein removal, and angioplasty. I've covered trials, including a murder for hire and armed robbery. And I've covered state and national politicians, including Gov. George Ryan and former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. My speaking skills have been used for fun, as well as for the greater good. In addition to competing in Toastmasters speech contests, I also testified before Congress and the Illinois House and Senate. I have appeared on Oprah, 20/20, Good Morning America, Court TV, ...
