Symbolic Interactionism, Functional Analysis, And Conflict...
Modern sociology is characterized by three main theoretical approaches: symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory. Personally, I believe that symbolic interactionism is the
most logically viable approach to understanding modern society due to its understanding of the
meaning people ascribe to everyday concepts. As a theory, functionalism fails to mention those who
either deviate from the whole or work against society. Concerning Marx's conflict theory, for now,
the time of competing for scarcities has ebbed; there are other, more pressing factors driving society
today such as family and an individual's aspirations. Nevertheless, symbolic interactionism is not
without its faults; the very fact that symbols differ in meaning ... Show more content on

Firstly, most people are unaware they are partially motivated by their awareness of symbols. Thus,
symbolic interactionism can't fully explain an individual's actions because they aren't consciously
making the decision based on their understanding of symbols and labels. Secondly, symbolism can
be harmful to society. Consider the difference of respect given to a businessman in a suit versus a
homeless veteran with a drug addiction; the symbols of wealth and poverty play a notable roll in the
way humanity treats each other. Lastly, symbols change over time. A perfect example is the field of
technology: years ago, it was viewed as mysterious and complex while today, technology is
something to be mastered. Programmers, scientists, and cyber hackers alike all quest to gain the
upper hand in today's ever–expanding technological

The Theory Of Functional Analysis
The word "Church" to a religious person has more meaning than just a building where people meet
once a week. To a religious person the word "Church" means the body of Christ. The body of Christ
is made up of every person's personal strengths that work together to form the entire body to live out
a purpose. Church's operate on this manner; they do not see one another as superior necessarily, but
rather everyone as equal and possessing their own strengths to create a fully operational team to
glorify God. However, sometimes this system does not function correctly because of various issues
such as a struggle for power, contrasting views and opinions, or lack of effort by people. We can
apple the theory of functional analysis to the issues that arise in the Church. Functional analysis is
the theory that society is made of many parts that work together to reach sociological equilibrium.
This theory can be applied to how the Church operates because every person within the Church must
do his or her specific job in order for the church to remain in equilibrium. When people work
together there are beneficial consequences of people's actions also known as functions. An example
of this would be the high school leadership team I am on at my church. The entire mission of this
leadership team is to make the high school group enjoyable for the high school students to keep
returning to learn more about Jesus. When this team collectively works together by doing what
strengths they posses

Ecstacy.MDA. Nutmeg. A ubiquitous spice that can be found in kitchens worldwide, nutmeg has
been harnessed in cooking, rituals, and a multitude of different ways across multiple cultures for
millennia (Baxamusa, 2011). Its most common use in near day–to–day cooking is something that is
not given a lot of thought to, but with Drug culture becoming increasingly prevalent in younger
demographics, nutmeg has become a cheap and easily sourced alternative (Shafer, 2010). Through
analysis of its chemical components, its structures and properties, in comparison to other illicit drugs
such as MDMA (Ecstasy) and MDA (3, 4–Methylenedioxyamphetamine), credence can be given to

Exotic and Aromatic, nutmeg became monopolized by the Dutch in the early 1600's after the
massacring the islands native population (AUBREY, 2012). Here the first plantations of the spice
were established and all other sources which could pose a threat to the economic assets of the Dutch
were eradicated. Prior to this, it had been considered a rare commodity predominantly throughout
Europe, Asia and the Middle East, where its earliest uses were traced back for Indian medicinal
purposes around 700 B.C.E (Nagano, 2009). Nutmeg was sought by the rich, for its potency to
induce hallucination ‒ which can now be related to the prevailing substances that are found in its
oils. These oils are what give basis to nutmegs association with madness.
The links between nutmeg and madness, or rather the symptoms of being in an altered physical and
mental state, correlates to the molecular composition of nutmeg's oils. Specifically, nutmeg consists
of numerous psychoactive compounds that have been found in its fixed oils (24 – 40%), known also
as the butter as well as in the volatile oils (5–15%) of the total sample (Nagano, 2009). The most
influential and common compounds as the cause for these effects being: Myristicin (13.57%),
Safrole (4.28%) and Elemicin (1.42%). Estimated to account for 20% of the oils within nutmeg
(Muchtaridi, Subarnas, Apriyantono, & Mustarichie, 2010), each of these molecules

Table 1 Organizes All Observational And Statistical Data
Table 1 organizes all observational and statistical data throughout the experimentation. Mass and
volume amounts from various reagents were based upon these values and therefore are insignificant
in a table. Each beginning, intermediate, and final product demonstrated shows the initial mass
recorded before the next reactionary process began. At the end of each experimentation set, a dollop
of sample was utilized to examine IR peaks and melting point range. The IR peaks displayed are the
peaks present in the experimental samples that support the pure identity of the product. General
observations during and after procedures were noted and are displayed above.

DISCUSSION
The first place to start on overall success of the experimentation would be the IR and melting point
values. If the IR and melting point reveal to match exactly with literature values, the whole of
experimentation can be deemed successful. Unfortunately, the reality is not as simple, for even a
slight impure peak or skewness in melting point shows flaw in the sample product. Benzaldehyde
was the first chemical in question. For this lab example, pure benzaldehyde was provided. For
exemplary purposes, the IR of benzaldehyde was taken to track the peak alterations that could occur
in later steps. The melting point provides further evidence of the purity of the benzaldehyde, but
purity was assumed and therefore melting point was not taken. Benzaldehyde is a simple aromatic
compound with a aldehyde group; therefore, expected peaks are the aromatic ring constituents, C=O
bond representative of aldehydes, and C–H bonds representative of aldehydes. According to the
expected literature values in place for this functional groups, benzaldehyde was sufficiently pure,
containing all the correct values. With the correct IR spectrograph available, all following IR
samplings follow stepwise in junction with the first. Further skewness can thus be considered flaw
in procedure and not benzaldehyde. Benzoin condensed from a catalyzed reaction with Vitamin B
and benzaldehyde, mixed with various basic and acidic

Functional Impairment Analysis
Functional Impairment Autistic individuals struggle daily with social impairments like "the use of
non–verbal behaviors", creating and keeping friendships, and lack of interest in others (Orsmond,
Krauss, & Seltzer, 2004, pg. 245). When placed in a social setting, adolescents with autism don't
interact with their peers as much as typical children (Orsmond et al., 2004). Also, they rarely ever
initiate conservations, making potential friendship more problematic to maintain (Orsmond et al.,
2004). A study showed that 47% of individuals had no friends that shared the same interests
(Orsmond et al., 2004). A small group of autistic children are able to relate to teachers and parents,
but majority still have difficulty (Orsmond et al., 2004).

Functional Leadership Analysis
What is Leadership? The leader is a member that directs and coordinates tasks that are relevant to
the company. To be a considered leading individual you must either be appointed as a leader. The
leader must be willing to do everything and anything possible to ensure that the group is organized
and is one. As a leader, you have the power to control rewards and much more.
A leader can be anyone on the team who has that one particular talent that stands out. A leader is
creatively thinking out of the box and has an idea on how to improve the business. That leader has a
certain aspect of the business or project that can be useful to the manager and the team. A leader

Nobody can be expected to have all the answers or rule the team with alone. Sometimes a project is
a long series of obstacles and opportunities coming toward you at full focus. You will need every
ounce of your collective hearts and minds and skill sets to pull through it.
Functional leadership theory has tended to focus considerable attention on team needs and has
devoted less attention to the specific ways in which leadership can satisfy these needs. To
understand how the team needs to become satisfied, our review will focus on team leadership
functions or the things that need to be done for the team to meet its needs and function effectively.

Social Medi A Functional Analysis Approach
In today's society where social media has become an increasingly popular form of communication
for organizations to interact with its public, Amy Reitz, Senior Market Insights Manager at Hewlett–
Packard wrote her article Social Media's Function in Organization: a Functional Analysis Approach
while she was an assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Amy claims that
"organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing
social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed
system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1)." Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the
development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described
that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The
main claim the author tries to convey is, "organizations can function better with an open systems
approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival
than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1)." The article's main
goal is to suggest that organizations will function better by using social media, which will ultimately
help the organization function better as an open system. The author supports this by taking into
consideration four functions in which social media will help the system of an organization. These

Aggression Evaluation
The Evaluation and Treatment of Aggression Maintained by Attention and Automatic Reinforcement
Nayely G. Calderon

Attention and Automatic Reinforcement
The studied focused on the evaluation of treatment of aggression maintained by attention and
automatic reinforcement. A study by Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman & Richman 1982/1994,
developed a functional analysis method. The creation of functional analysis helped researchers
evaluate more effectively multiple functions of destructive behavior simultaneously. Study done by
Iwata 1994 showed that the function of behavior can be identified in most cases, however, in a
significant minority of cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Researchers taught Ernie to ask for attention instead of engaging in aggressive behaviors by using
picture cards that displayed a form of attention from the therapist (Thompson et al.,1998).
Sessions of 30–s intervals were recorded and a picture card was placed in front of Ernie. If Ernie
handed the picture card to the therapist the therapist would give him attention. If he didn't do
anything 15–s into the interval he was prompted on what to do. If he engaged in aggression behavior
Ernie was ignored. After training sessions, the researchers added extinction to FCT. Chin grinding
and other aggressive behaviors were ignored. An ABAB design was used to compare end results
from FCT plus extinction to baseline (Thompson et al.,1998).
Experiment III
This third experiment was conducted to reduce Ernie's chin grinding. It was concluded in the second
functional analysis of experiment two that Ernie's chin grinding was based on automatic
reinforcement. Ernie was provided with a similar stimulation for chin grinding. He was provided
with a device that provided similar stimulation to press against his chin. researchers used response

Application Exercise 5: Summary of an Applied Behavior Analytic Journal Article
I) Introduction
a) What are the main reasons why the authors decided to conduct this study? How did they justify
what they did?
Parent training is an important part of behavioral interventions for children with developmental
disabilities and challenging behaviors. It is also important that all individuals in the child's daily life
implements the behavioral treatment plan correctly and consistently in order to benefit the most.
With the greatest outcome in mind, what is a cost effective way making sure the desired outcome is
accomplished?

No matter how hard we work with the child in the clinic, if there is going to be real and lasting
improvement it needs to be generalized into the child's other settings. We try to involve parents in
process and offer training through parent workshops that take place every few months and one–on–
one parent trainings at the clinic. If the pyramidal "train–the–trainer" procedure is an effective
method for training the child's caregivers it could play a large role in our parent training process. If
we can effectively train all the primary caregivers in the life of the child, then it is more likely that
the treatment plan will be generalized to the child's other settings.
II) Methods
a) Describe the participants and setting (location, physical arrangements)
The study consisted of three children and their caregivers. The participants were Sam a 4–year–old
boy, Myron an 11–year–old boy, and Robin a 7–year–old girl. For each child a primary caregiver
was selected, and then they selected two additional secondary caregivers. Each of these caregivers
would participate in training sessions, which were conducted in the children's homes. The training
sessions with Sam's caregivers were conducted in his bedroom, training sessions with Myron's
caregivers were conducted in the living room, and training sessions with Robin's caregivers were
conducted in the kitchen, all of which contained a table and chairs.

Abstract:
This experiment is to demonstrate the preparation of paracetamol and its properties. Reflux and
filtration of 4–aminophenol and acetic anhydride formed the crude sample. Further analysis of dry
white crystals were used to give quantitative measurements and a percentage yield of 46% was
obtained. The overall conclusion is that the acetic anhydride reacted with the –NH2 group.
Materials and Methods:
1. We weighed out (on a top–pan balance) 4–aminophenol (about 11.0g) in a weighing boat and
transfer the powder to a 250cm3 round–bottomed flask (RBF) using a powder funnel. 2. Then

–Sample + Ethanol= Colourless solution
FeCl3 was then added to this solution and a positive colour change was seen, as it turned green
–Sample + Ethanol + FeCl3 = Dark Green solution
This was then repeated using Salicyclic Acid instead of the sample to give a reference material as it
will give a positive test for a phenol.
–Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol = Colourless solution
–Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol + FeCl3 =Purple solution
The positive colour change from colourless to dark green of the sample means that the phenol group
is present in the sample. Therefore indicating that the acetic anhydride has reacted with the amino
group.

The infrared spectrum of paracetamol shows the appearance of a new peak at 1561 – 1650cm–1 this
represents the carbonyl group from the acetic anhydride, meaning that paracetamol has been formed.
The –OH peak is still present at 3109 – 3319cm–1 this shows that the phenol group is still attached
to paracetamol. From the infrared spectra you can also see that the –NH2 group has disappeared.
This is as it has been selectively acetylated by acetic anhydride to form paracetamol.

Programming Models Of Wsn System
Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State–of–the–Art Survey
Introduction There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on
the air into networks to facilitate applications. The scaled–down censoring system presented below
is an example of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different between
corridors area and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those sensors
combined together by different wireless AP and provide services to different applications inside and
outside the plant. This is where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed
environment in heterogeneous sensor networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and
applications. And the network and sensor virtualization can achieved by the middleware.
Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity of the underlying heterogeneous
infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP in the presented scenario.
Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design should facilitate the
balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing, efficient resource
utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient programming
model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. A motivating example on dust–free manufacturing plant
censoring. A simplified dust–free manufacturing plant censoring system is described below.

Functional Movement Analysis Essay
Intro: This movement analysis project examines the free throw of a male college basketball player.
The foul shot was broken up into four segments of movement which can be listed in order as the
wind up, the set, the shot, and the follow through. We also examined the athlete's
Functional Movement Screen (FMS), highlighting where the athlete excelled and where he had
deficits. The FMS findings were applied to the skills needed to compete in basketball at the
collegiate level. Lastly, we analyzed the arthrokinematics and osteokinematics of the joints during
these movements, the angles of those joints, as well as the muscles involved during the movements.
Description: To begin the study, our group was given an athlete. First, our athlete was asked to

R : A History And Overview
R: A History and Overview
The idea for R was first conceived in the early 1990's by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman, two
professors at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Although Ihaka had contemplated the idea
of developing a programming language before meeting Gentleman. He references a book entitled
The Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs as one inspiration that led to R. The book
was meant to teach programming to engineering students through Scheme. The book provided a
practical and interesting approach to programming. It also demonstrated the implementation process
of a language like Scheme. In addition to this book, Ihaka had also been inspired by S, a statistical
programming language developed at Bell Laboratories. He'd once needed to demonstrate a rule
concerning lexical scope to a peer and used S in lieu of Scheme. He was surprised to see that the
demonstration didn't work due to S's scoping differences. This caused him to begin thinking of
major improvements on S that could lead to a better statistical programming language.
It was with this inspiration that Ihaka started collaboration with Gentleman on developing a new
language. Since they were both statisticians, they sought to create a statistical language that could
aid in their introductory courses. More generally, they wanted to create a language that operated in
the same way a statistical analyst would think. By 1994, they had completed their first version of

Bullying: A Functional Analysis
Bullying is defined as a dynamic and repetitive and persistent patterns of verbal and / or non–verbal
behaviors directed by one or more children on another child that are intended to deliberately inflict
physical, verbal or emotional abuse in the presence of a real or perceived power differential
(Selekman and Vessey). In other words, it is a group of people who directed an act to threaten, hurt
or frighten that individual when he is unable to defend himself. The article outlined and covered the
details of bullying – corresponding behaviors, place, time and reasons of bullying, what intervention
works and does not work. It is thorough and analytical; clear and specific.

One usually becomes mature as they face something tough during adolescence, we start to get

According to Karl Marx, conflict theory explains the circumstances when groups competing for
power and scarce resources. Nowadays, it means opposing interests in every layer of society
(families, groups, organizations, a community or an entire society). It can be viewed as positive as it
can bring about positive change, such as feminists and conflict theory – it challenges the fact that
men should dominate the society (Henslin, 2013).
In the early few chapters of part 1, some bullies were introduced, such as Cody Perkins, Clay

how to cope with his emotions. His way of coping seems to be through his negative verbal and
physical behavior. As mentioned in the scenario, this has caused much havoc in the classroom as
well as at home. He enjoys PE and also his male PE teacher. He dislikes subjects where he really has
to focus to apply his knowledge, like math and health. His dislikes become more evident as the
afternoon proceeds when his medication is slowly wearing off. He does not like the police, primarily
because much of his negative behavior has caused his foster parents to call the authorities. It seems
as if Randolph is in–tuned when being physically active, so we can take this and integrate physical
action with learning. For example, instead of just having him sit behind a desk and complete

The Use Of Glycerol Residue
ABSTRACT: The use of glycerol residue, a palm oil waste from Oleochemical industries as a raw
material for the production of succinic acid with immobilized cell fermentation process was
investigated. In this work, the raw material, immobilized cells to produced succinic acid were
characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR) and Scanning Electron
Microscope instruments. Based on the results, the functional group appearing for treated and
commercial glycerol is the hydroxyl, aromatic methoxyl, alkenes, soap, carbonyl and alcohol group.
The hydroxyl group which is O–H appeared at a spectra value of 3394.2700 cm–1for the treated
glycerol and 3299.9600 cm–1 for the commercial group. Respectively. From the analysis of SEM
for bead, it was found that majority of pores fall within range and the shapes was ellipsoid and a
thick skin around strains was detectable, therefore indicating that immobilized cell prepared for
fermnatation process is an attractive source for succinic acid applications. . Key words: succinic

Indirect Assessment: A Case Study
Indirect Assessment Indirect assessments involve the gathering of information from the individual or
those close to them through the utilization of structured interviews, rating scales, checklists, or
questionnaires (Cooper et al., 2007). The objective of the indirect assessment is to clearly identify
the behavior; under what circumstances it is most likely to occur; what the individual gains from
engaging in the behavior; what interventions, if any, have been utilized previously; and what
antecedents, both immediate and more distant motivating operations, occur prior to the display of
the behavior. Further, when conducting the indirect assessment, concerns regarding medical or
psychological issues may present which may require further investigation or referrals prior to
initiation of services and may influence the course or need for treatment. Through the gathering of
this information a tentative hypothesis concerning the contingencies that ... Show more content on

The Functional Assessment Screening Tool (FAST) is a 16–question rating scale formatted with yes
or no answers. Utilization of this method reduces the potential for bias and subjectivity seen in the
interview. Once administered, the FAST aides in identifying maintaining variables as either social or
non–social factors, such as positive or negative reinforcement, or automatic reinforcement (Fisher et
al., 2011). Completion of the FAST will reveal the likely maintaining variables of aggressive
behaviors as either access to preferred activities or tangible items or escape by calculating the total
number of positive answers under each category; a predominantly higher number of "yes" responses
in a category identifies the maintaining factor. Although reliability and validity analysis have not
been conducted for the FAST, through providing the tool to both parents and teacher, comparisons
may be completed which will enable interrater agreement (Cooper et al., 2007; Fisher et al.,

Functional Behavior Analysis
When faced with the challenge of altering a behavior, it is important to understand the components
which surround the behavior. Identifying those things which serve to motivate the individual to
continue engaging in, or not engage in, a behavior; what triggers it; how to define it; how often it
occurs and under what circumstances; are just a few of the questions which need to be answered in
order to effectively plan for change. Behaviors are generally learned and maintained through
positive, negative, or automatic reinforcement, and in the provision of these reinforcing effects, the
behavior serves a function with which to achieve them. Through the completion of a functional
behavior assessment one can systematically gain the information necessary to form a hypothesis as
to why the behavior is occurring, test the hypothesis, and develop a ... Show more content on

A functional behavior assessment is systematically completed in three consecutive steps. Initially,
information is gathered through indirect assessments via interview, self reports, and those who know
the person well. This serves to define the behavior, provide background information, as well as
provide information about when the behavior is more likely or unlikely to occur and what
environmental variables might influence its occurrence. After this is completed, the professional
conducts a descriptive assessment during which observations are conducted in the natural
environment as a step toward determining a true functional relationship between the behavior and
controlling factors. This is done through the use of observational recording formats such as: ABC
assessments, time sampling, interval recording and structured descriptive assessments. A functional
analysis is the final part of the functional behavioral assessment during which the hypothesis is

Pretreatment Functional Analysis
Vollmer et al. (1995) evaluated using noncontingent escape as an intervention for severe self–
injurious behavior (SIB). A functional analysis was performed which determined problem behavior
was maintained by negative reinforcement in the form of escape for two subjects under study. One
subject received treatment consisting of noncontingent escape (NCE) alone, while a second subject
had an implementation of both NCE and DNRO (differential negative reinforcement of other
behavior). Results of treatment indicated NCE was effective for both subjects, and although DNRO
was effective for one subject; NCE showed a more immediate effect. This immediate effect NCE

Using a least to a most sequence of prompting provided an opportunity for a subject to perform a
task requested with the least amount of assistance if able, but also provided a more direct prompt if
necessary. Graduated prompting reduces frustration, which previous research has shown leads to an
increase in rates of SIB during treatment. Fading an escape schedule used with one of the subjects
was a strength of this study. The schedule was faded from continuous access to escape to a fixed
time of ten minutes. This schedule fading was a benefit because a primary reason for this
intervention was to increase access to instruction without SIB. A ten–minute time frame between
episodes of SIB might be a reasonable amount of time for acquisition of an academic skill. Future
research involving using noncontingent escape as a treatment for problem behavior might include
typically developing individuals in a classroom setting. For example, a fixed–time schedule might
be used to permit children in a classroom to leave their seats. An analogous fading schedule
described in this study might be used to fade the time of access to escape to match segments of time
which might fit instructional demands. Additionally, a fixed time schedule for escape might be used
for bathroom breaks and trips to the water fountain which are both frequent ways students avoid

Synthesis Of Methyl Cinnamate
Introduction
The ester that was developed throughout the entire lab is known as methyl cinnamate. Methyl
cinnamate is an ester that is created when cinnamic acid is mixed with methanol and sulfuric acid
(see Scheme 1). Around the world, methyl cinnamate is found in a variety of plants and fruits such
as strawberry or cinnamon. The plant most used to collect higher concentrations of methyl
cinnamate is the Eucalyptus olida with a concentration of 98%. Due to the fact that the ester comes
from a cinnamic base, the ester contains a sweet strawberry aroma mixed in with a bit of cinnamon.
The sweet fruity smell of the ester is used heavily in the flavoring and the perfume industries (1).
This methyl cinnamate was an off–white solid color and consisted of fine, white particles that
clumped together in certain spots. Scheme 1. Synthesis of Methyl Cinnamate
Results and Discussion
A. Synthesis of Ester The synthesis of the ester had no conceivable procedural changes. The creation
of the ester could be deemed a success as the percent yield came out to a total of 42%. From a
mixture of 1.51 grams of cinnamic acid, 4.05 mL of methanol, and 20 mL of concentrated sulfuric
acid, a total of 0.68 grams of ester was produced. The 42% yield came from dividing the actual mass
of the ester (0.68 g) by the theoretical yield, which was calculated by the formula weight and the
amount of moles used. The produced ester, as mentioned above, was an off white color and had

Integrated Criteria Decision Making And Multi Criteria...
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report – CS6705 Prioritized Multi–Criteria Decision
Making and Multi–Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi–Criteria
decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess
complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over
others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi–Criteria Aggregation. To
further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi–Criteria
Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can
depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real
world scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill
needs to be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee's approval to
pass it. This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the
committee. In fact, there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others
and satisfaction cannot be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive
committee has to approve the bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will
dominate the other criteria. To logically state this we can say 'Satisfy criterion A and if possible
satisfy criterion B'. We

Too Much Crying isn't a Good Thing
Crying is undoubtedly one of the most common humanistic features when it comes to the emotions
of the average person, due to the fact that every human being has shed tears for which ever reasons
their emotions led them to. However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can
indicate a serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a
serious concern. In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know
what to do about a situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion
causing them to cry. With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an
underlying deep rooted issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior
of crying continuous and figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has
also yet to be examined systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression
or tantrums, during functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, & McCord, 2003). Identification of variables
that may maintain crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric
interventions (e.g., individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits). The
current study extended functional analysis methodology to crying with an adolescent boy who had
been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. Results suggested that crying was maintained by

Principles for Cognizing the Sacred Essay
Principles for Cognizing the Sacred
Today we need a scientific analysis of basic world views which expresses genuine understanding of
the sacred. Such world views hold the main principles for cognizing reality. A 'substratum'
understanding of the Sacred is characteristic of mythology and magic, wherein all spiritual
phenomena are closely connected with a material or corporeal bearer. Functional understanding of
the Sacred is developed by the earliest civilizations in which the spiritual is separated from the
material. For example, Plato, Aristotle, and Neoplatonism created European functional theology.
Substantial understanding of the Sacred appears in Christianity. Here we find the synthesis of
substratum and functional peculiarities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Soviet period, «idealism» and «materialism» emerged as a departure from ideological
philosophy. For example, V.P. Kuzmin distinguished between «systematical» and «meta–
systematical» understanding of objects. He also showed the appropriate stages and levels through
which one could develop a true understanding of an object's essence.(1) A.Tchanyshev emphasized
naturalistic and anthropomorphic principles for cognizing the essence of objects,(2) whereas B.T.
Grigorian, through the principles of objectivism and subjectivism, made it possible to comprehend
the notion of essence with regard to human beings.(3) Yu.A. Shreider juxtaposed naturalistic and
individualistic principles for cognizing the world.(4) S.N. Smirnov emphasized functional and
structural principles for the development of a scientific interpretation of objects.(5) S. Petrov
distinguished between structural, functional, phenomenological, and substratum–substantial
principles,(6) B.M. Kedrov between functional and substratum principles,(7) while A.R. Sokolov
worked mainly with functional–substantial principles.(8) In the works of the authors mentioned
above, one can discern the will to deny the dogmata of State Marxism in favour of a dialogue with
Western philosophical and Church traditions.
Today there have emerged quite new possibilities for such dialogue, although there remains a
number of basic problems to be solved. One of the most important, is the

Melting Point Analysis Of Acetaminophen
ABSTRACT:
The objective of this lab is to synthesize acetaminophen from p–aminophenol. The techniques used
to do so, consist of: reflux with heat to allow reaction to occur at a reasonable time period,
extraction and filtration to isolate the desired product, and characterization of the product by
analyzing IR spectras and melting points. Acetaminophen considered synthesized, primarily due to
the IR spectrum exhibiting all the bond vibrations is the amide group. The percent yield of 124.6%
imply that there was a mechanical error that occurred, thus, also tampering with the progression of
the chemical reaction. The wide melting point range of 165 C–169 C denote the impurity of the
acetaminophen product.
INTRODUCTION
Chemical synthesis is an imperative technique most relevant to organic chemists. Synthesis employs
a succession of chemical reactions by using pre–existing structures to make new and functional
ones. A combination of lab techniques could be developed in order to synthesize and attain the
desired product. This particular experiment calls for the use for reflux, extraction, recrystallization,
infrared spectroscopy, and melting point analysis. The overall objective of this lab is to utilize these
steps to synthesize acetaminophen from p–aminophenol and characterize it .
To synthesize acetaminophen, calls for the following chemical reaction:

Examining The Functional Connectivity Of A Whole Brain Atlas
Background: The brain is often considered the most complex organ in the human body. It is also the
most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass
and the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or
function a difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a
method for further examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brain and
subdivide them based on spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can
significantly improve understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus of
various parts of the brain. This examination will only be able to take place by creating an accurate
whole brain atlas. This creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating it into
regions of interest (ROI) based positioning and/or function, has typically been done via fMRI
analysis of the brain combined with an anatomically based mapping procedure. This study seeks to
use fMRI technology combined with an algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI's that optimize
both spatial coherence and homogeneity in regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that can closely
match of the results of a voxel–wise analysis, while improving on computation power required and
interpretability.
Clinical Significance: The usefulness of this technology and methodology can be found in both
neurology research

Functional Analysis Disadvantages
a. Describe the rationale for conducting a functional analysis. What are the benefits and limitations
of a functional analysis?
Functional Analysis (FA) is a tool used to identify a functional relationship. In order to establish this
relationship, a problematic behavior is operationally defined. Then, the environmental antecedents
and consequences of the behavior are systematically manipulated in well–defined test and control
conditions and the behavior is observed and measured. The goal of this is to identify the sources of
reinforcement that maintain the behavior. Thus, the function of the behavior can be determined
(Iwata & Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). One benefit of conducting a FA is that research has shown it
to be more reliable than self–report measures, such as questionnaires or rating scales. They ... Show

In order to do this, the therapist may inform the client that she is busy and then move away.
However, when the client performs the problem behavior, the therapist should attend to the client
immediately by addressing the problem behavior, which is the consequence. Then, the therapist
should return to ignoring the client. If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of the
behavior is attention or social positive reinforcement (Iwata & Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). The
tangible condition is similar to the attention condition. In this condition, the therapist should allow
the client free access to a preferred item prior to the session. At the beginning of the session, the
therapist should remove the item and move away from the client. When the problem behavior
occurs, the therapist should deliver the tangible item for about 30 seconds. Then, the therapist
should move back away from the client. If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of
the behavior is tangibles or social positive reinforcement (Iwata & Dozier, 2008; Jackson,

The functional connectivity maps using the fcPAT data from Nasiriavanaki and colleague's research
was extracted using the seed–based analysis, where the Pearson correlation was used as the
similarity metric cite{nasiriavanaki2014high}. After each seed's temporal trace was found,
Pearson's correlation can be performed between the seed's temporal trace and the temporal trace of
each pixel in the image. This results in a correlation map that shows functionally corresponding
regions of the brain, both intra– and interhemispherically. The correlation maps for the mouse brain
that were acquired with fcPAT can be shown in Figure 5 for a number of different seed locations.

The purpose of the parcellation algorithm was to divide the surface of the brain into functional

choice of seed location, and it removes the requirement for global signal regression

Patience is the key in accomplishing anything. My most challenging class this year would be my

range of a graph, I assumed that this notion would stay in Algebra 2 and not follow me into my next
math course. Starting off the year, the class was simple as it was review of Algebra 2, however days
later I am faced with domain and range. I took tests that dealt with this concept and would always
get those specific questions wrong. I remember, my teacher saying how most concepts in math

had. Learning how to figure out these two concepts on a graph was harder as a result of giving up

Symbolic Interactionism, Functional Analysis, And Conflict...

  • 1. Symbolic Interactionism, Functional Analysis, And Conflict... Modern sociology is characterized by three main theoretical approaches: symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory. Personally, I believe that symbolic interactionism is the most logically viable approach to understanding modern society due to its understanding of the meaning people ascribe to everyday concepts. As a theory, functionalism fails to mention those who either deviate from the whole or work against society. Concerning Marx's conflict theory, for now, the time of competing for scarcities has ebbed; there are other, more pressing factors driving society today such as family and an individual's aspirations. Nevertheless, symbolic interactionism is not without its faults; the very fact that symbols differ in meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, most people are unaware they are partially motivated by their awareness of symbols. Thus, symbolic interactionism can't fully explain an individual's actions because they aren't consciously making the decision based on their understanding of symbols and labels. Secondly, symbolism can be harmful to society. Consider the difference of respect given to a businessman in a suit versus a homeless veteran with a drug addiction; the symbols of wealth and poverty play a notable roll in the way humanity treats each other. Lastly, symbols change over time. A perfect example is the field of technology: years ago, it was viewed as mysterious and complex while today, technology is something to be mastered. Programmers, scientists, and cyber hackers alike all quest to gain the upper hand in today's ever–expanding technological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Theory Of Functional Analysis The word "Church" to a religious person has more meaning than just a building where people meet once a week. To a religious person the word "Church" means the body of Christ. The body of Christ is made up of every person's personal strengths that work together to form the entire body to live out a purpose. Church's operate on this manner; they do not see one another as superior necessarily, but rather everyone as equal and possessing their own strengths to create a fully operational team to glorify God. However, sometimes this system does not function correctly because of various issues such as a struggle for power, contrasting views and opinions, or lack of effort by people. We can apple the theory of functional analysis to the issues that arise in the Church. Functional analysis is the theory that society is made of many parts that work together to reach sociological equilibrium. This theory can be applied to how the Church operates because every person within the Church must do his or her specific job in order for the church to remain in equilibrium. When people work together there are beneficial consequences of people's actions also known as functions. An example of this would be the high school leadership team I am on at my church. The entire mission of this leadership team is to make the high school group enjoyable for the high school students to keep returning to learn more about Jesus. When this team collectively works together by doing what strengths they posses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The acetone extract of the leaves and bark of Cassia fistula prepared by Soxhlet Extraction method. Crude extract was analysed by phytochemical tests and FTIR–spectrum. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of some interesting secondary metabolites like tannins, flavonoid, carbohydrate, saponins, glycosides and phenol in the leaf extract while tannins, flavonoids, carbohydrate, saponins, glycosides, phenol and terpenoid in the stem bark during qualitative analysis. Interestingly, FTIR analysis of acetone stem bark extract shows the absorption bands which are closely similar to Catechin. FTIR analysis confirms the presence of phenolic compound and flavonoid content. So the present study provide evidences that leaves and bark of Cassia fistula contain bioactive constituents ... • 13. The 's Cultural And Sociological Values Ecstacy.MDA. Nutmeg. A ubiquitous spice that can be found in kitchens worldwide, nutmeg has been harnessed in cooking, rituals, and a multitude of different ways across multiple cultures for millennia (Baxamusa, 2011). Its most common use in near day–to–day cooking is something that is not given a lot of thought to, but with Drug culture becoming increasingly prevalent in younger demographics, nutmeg has become a cheap and easily sourced alternative (Shafer, 2010). Through analysis of its chemical components, its structures and properties, in comparison to other illicit drugs such as MDMA (Ecstasy) and MDA (3, 4–Methylenedioxyamphetamine), credence can be given to the relationship between its popularity rise in youth culture, and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exotic and Aromatic, nutmeg became monopolized by the Dutch in the early 1600's after the massacring the islands native population (AUBREY, 2012). Here the first plantations of the spice were established and all other sources which could pose a threat to the economic assets of the Dutch were eradicated. Prior to this, it had been considered a rare commodity predominantly throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, where its earliest uses were traced back for Indian medicinal purposes around 700 B.C.E (Nagano, 2009). Nutmeg was sought by the rich, for its potency to induce hallucination ‒ which can now be related to the prevailing substances that are found in its oils. These oils are what give basis to nutmegs association with madness. The links between nutmeg and madness, or rather the symptoms of being in an altered physical and mental state, correlates to the molecular composition of nutmeg's oils. Specifically, nutmeg consists of numerous psychoactive compounds that have been found in its fixed oils (24 – 40%), known also as the butter as well as in the volatile oils (5–15%) of the total sample (Nagano, 2009). The most influential and common compounds as the cause for these effects being: Myristicin (13.57%), Safrole (4.28%) and Elemicin (1.42%). Estimated to account for 20% of the oils within nutmeg (Muchtaridi, Subarnas, Apriyantono, & Mustarichie, 2010), each of these molecules ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mass and volume amounts from various reagents were based upon these values and therefore are insignificant in a table. Each beginning, intermediate, and final product demonstrated shows the initial mass recorded before the next reactionary process began. At the end of each experimentation set, a dollop of sample was utilized to examine IR peaks and melting point range. The IR peaks displayed are the peaks present in the experimental samples that support the pure identity of the product. General observations during and after procedures were noted and are displayed above. Figure 4. IR spectra of benzaldehyde Figure 5. IR spectra of benzoin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DISCUSSION The first place to start on overall success of the experimentation would be the IR and melting point values. If the IR and melting point reveal to match exactly with literature values, the whole of experimentation can be deemed successful. Unfortunately, the reality is not as simple, for even a slight impure peak or skewness in melting point shows flaw in the sample product. Benzaldehyde was the first chemical in question. For this lab example, pure benzaldehyde was provided. For exemplary purposes, the IR of benzaldehyde was taken to track the peak alterations that could occur in later steps. The melting point provides further evidence of the purity of the benzaldehyde, but purity was assumed and therefore melting point was not taken. Benzaldehyde is a simple aromatic compound with a aldehyde group; therefore, expected peaks are the aromatic ring constituents, C=O bond representative of aldehydes, and C–H bonds representative of aldehydes. According to the expected literature values in place for this functional groups, benzaldehyde was sufficiently pure, containing all the correct values. With the correct IR spectrograph available, all following IR samplings follow stepwise in junction with the first. Further skewness can thus be considered flaw in procedure and not benzaldehyde. Benzoin condensed from a catalyzed reaction with Vitamin B and benzaldehyde, mixed with various basic and acidic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Functional Impairment Analysis Functional Impairment Autistic individuals struggle daily with social impairments like "the use of non–verbal behaviors", creating and keeping friendships, and lack of interest in others (Orsmond, Krauss, & Seltzer, 2004, pg. 245). When placed in a social setting, adolescents with autism don't interact with their peers as much as typical children (Orsmond et al., 2004). Also, they rarely ever initiate conservations, making potential friendship more problematic to maintain (Orsmond et al., 2004). A study showed that 47% of individuals had no friends that shared the same interests (Orsmond et al., 2004). A small group of autistic children are able to relate to teachers and parents, but majority still have difficulty (Orsmond et al., 2004). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To be a considered leading individual you must either be appointed as a leader. The leader must be willing to do everything and anything possible to ensure that the group is organized and is one. As a leader, you have the power to control rewards and much more. A leader can be anyone on the team who has that one particular talent that stands out. A leader is creatively thinking out of the box and has an idea on how to improve the business. That leader has a certain aspect of the business or project that can be useful to the manager and the team. A leader leads based on strengths, not labels. Sometimes a project is a long series of obstacles and opportunities coming toward you at full focus. You will need every ounce of your collective hearts and minds and skill sets to pull through it. Functional leadership theory has tended to focus considerable attention on team needs and has devoted less attention to the specific ways in which leadership can satisfy these needs. To understand how the team needs to become satisfied, our review will focus on team leadership functions or the things that need to be done for the team to meet its needs and function effectively. When I manage a home at a care–giving facility I was a Democratic leader. I was that kind of leader was respect is earned when it was giving. I also only made a decision among my staff because I saw things in this perspective without my staff this house run as smoothly as things were going. Social Medi A Functional Analysis Approach In today's society where social media has become an increasingly popular form of communication for organizations to interact with its public, Amy Reitz, Senior Market Insights Manager at Hewlett– Packard wrote her article Social Media's Function in Organization: a Functional Analysis Approach while she was an assistant Professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Amy claims that "organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1)." Author Amy Reitz took several theories into consideration in the development of this paper, but ultimately decided that a functional analysis approach best described that organizations would benefit better as an open system with help from using social media. The main claim the author tries to convey is, "organizations can function better with an open systems approach to public relations by employing social media, allowing for a greater chance at survival than organizations that function as a closed system (Reitz, 2012, p.41, para.1)." The article's main goal is to suggest that organizations will function better by using social media, which will ultimately help the organization function better as an open system. The author supports this by taking into consideration four functions in which social media will help the system of an organization. These include: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A study by Iwata, Dorsey, Slifer, Bauman & Richman 1982/1994, developed a functional analysis method. The creation of functional analysis helped researchers evaluate more effectively multiple functions of destructive behavior simultaneously. Study done by Iwata 1994 showed that the function of behavior can be identified in most cases, however, in a significant minority of cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers taught Ernie to ask for attention instead of engaging in aggressive behaviors by using picture cards that displayed a form of attention from the therapist (Thompson et al.,1998). Sessions of 30–s intervals were recorded and a picture card was placed in front of Ernie. If Ernie handed the picture card to the therapist the therapist would give him attention. If he didn't do anything 15–s into the interval he was prompted on what to do. If he engaged in aggression behavior Ernie was ignored. After training sessions, the researchers added extinction to FCT. Chin grinding and other aggressive behaviors were ignored. Behavioral Intervention Program Models Within Autism Maggie Franklin Behavioral Intervention Program Models in Autism Application Exercise 5: Summary of an Applied Behavior Analytic Journal Article I) Introduction a) What are the main reasons why the authors decided to conduct this study? How did they justify what they did? Parent training is an important part of behavioral interventions for children with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors. It is also important that all individuals in the child's daily life implements the behavioral treatment plan correctly and consistently in order to benefit the most. With the greatest outcome in mind, what is a cost effective way making sure the desired outcome is accomplished? How do we enable the training to cover more than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No matter how hard we work with the child in the clinic, if there is going to be real and lasting improvement it needs to be generalized into the child's other settings. We try to involve parents in process and offer training through parent workshops that take place every few months and one–on– one parent trainings at the clinic. If the pyramidal "train–the–trainer" procedure is an effective method for training the child's caregivers it could play a large role in our parent training process. If we can effectively train all the primary caregivers in the life of the child, then it is more likely that the treatment plan will be generalized to the child's other settings. II) Methods a) Describe the participants and setting (location, physical arrangements) The study consisted of three children and their caregivers. The participants were Sam a 4–year–old boy, Myron an 11–year–old boy, and Robin a 7–year–old girl. For each child a primary caregiver was selected, and then they selected two additional secondary caregivers. Each of these caregivers would participate in training sessions, which were conducted in the children's homes. The training sessions with Sam's caregivers were conducted in his bedroom, training sessions with Myron's caregivers were conducted in the living room, and training sessions with Robin's caregivers were conducted in the kitchen, all of which contained a table and chairs.

Abstract: This experiment is to demonstrate the preparation of paracetamol and its properties. Reflux and filtration of 4–aminophenol and acetic anhydride formed the crude sample. Further analysis of dry white crystals were used to give quantitative measurements and a percentage yield of 46% was obtained. The overall conclusion is that the acetic anhydride reacted with the –NH2 group. Materials and Methods: 1. Programming Models Of Wsn System Research Proposal Title Programming Models of WSN System: A State–of–the–Art Survey Introduction There are a lot scenarios need different sensor nodes to collaborate and integrated on the air into networks to facilitate applications. The scaled–down censoring system presented below is an example of those wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this system sensors are different between corridors area and manufacturing area, since they need different precise level. Those sensors combined together by different wireless AP and provide services to different applications inside and outside the plant. This is where virtualization shines. Virtualization creates an uniformed environment in heterogeneous sensor networks. It bridge the gap between infrastructure and applications. And the network and sensor virtualization can achieved by the middleware. Middleware hide unnecessary details and complexity of the underlying heterogeneous infrastructures, like different sensor nodes and different wireless AP in the presented scenario. Software designs and programming approaches for the middleware design should facilitate the balance between communication and computing. Energy awareness, routing, efficient resource utilization and data delivery have always been the key parameters for an efficient programming model for WSN. Motivating Scenario Fig 1. The foul shot was broken up into four segments of movement which can be listed in order as the wind up, the set, the shot, and the follow through. We also examined the athlete's Functional Movement Screen (FMS), highlighting where the athlete excelled and where he had deficits. The FMS findings were applied to the skills needed to compete in basketball at the collegiate level. Lastly, we analyzed the arthrokinematics and osteokinematics of the joints during these movements, the angles of those joints, as well as the muscles involved during the movements. R : A History And Overview R: A History and Overview The idea for R was first conceived in the early 1990's by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman, two professors at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Although Ihaka had contemplated the idea of developing a programming language before meeting Gentleman. He references a book entitled The Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs as one inspiration that led to R. The book was meant to teach programming to engineering students through Scheme. The book provided a practical and interesting approach to programming. It also demonstrated the implementation process of a language like Scheme. In addition to this book, Ihaka had also been inspired by S, a statistical programming language developed at Bell Laboratories. He'd once needed to demonstrate a rule concerning lexical scope to a peer and used S in lieu of Scheme. He was surprised to see that the demonstration didn't work due to S's scoping differences. This caused him to begin thinking of major improvements on S that could lead to a better statistical programming language. It was with this inspiration that Ihaka started collaboration with Gentleman on developing a new language. Since they were both statisticians, they sought to create a statistical language that could aid in their introductory courses. More generally, they wanted to create a language that operated in the same way a statistical analyst would think. By 1994, they had completed their first version of their new ... Now for the functional behavioral analysis! As explained in the scenario, Randolph is smart and seems to be able to concentrate when he feels like applying his knowledge to an assignment. He also follows rules and takes turns when it comes to PE. This shows that he does understand and know what respect is. While he has significant strengths he does have a few weaknesses. Randolph's weaknesses include his ability to get angry easily and does not know how to cope with his emotions. His way of coping seems to be through his negative verbal and physical behavior. As mentioned in the scenario, this has caused much havoc in the classroom as well as at home. He enjoys PE and also his male PE teacher. He dislikes subjects where he really has to focus to apply his knowledge, like math and health. His dislikes become more evident as the afternoon proceeds when his medication is slowly wearing off. He does not like the police, primarily because much of his negative behavior has caused his foster parents to call the authorities. Identifying those things which serve to motivate the individual to continue engaging in, or not engage in, a behavior; what triggers it; how to define it; how often it occurs and under what circumstances; are just a few of the questions which need to be answered in order to effectively plan for change. Behaviors are generally learned and maintained through positive, negative, or automatic reinforcement, and in the provision of these reinforcing effects, the behavior serves a function with which to achieve them. Fading an escape schedule used with one of the subjects was a strength of this study. The schedule was faded from continuous access to escape to a fixed time of ten minutes. This schedule fading was a benefit because a primary reason for this intervention was to increase access to instruction without SIB. Methyl cinnamate is an ester that is created when cinnamic acid is mixed with methanol and sulfuric acid (see Scheme 1). Around the world, methyl cinnamate is found in a variety of plants and fruits such as strawberry or cinnamon. The plant most used to collect higher concentrations of methyl cinnamate is the Eucalyptus olida with a concentration of 98%. Due to the fact that the ester comes from a cinnamic base, the ester contains a sweet strawberry aroma mixed in with a bit of cinnamon. The sweet fruity smell of the ester is used heavily in the flavoring and the perfume industries (1). This methyl cinnamate was an off–white solid color and consisted of fine, white particles that clumped together in certain spots. Scheme 1. Synthesis of Methyl Cinnamate Results and Discussion A. Synthesis of Ester The synthesis of the ester had no conceivable procedural changes. The creation of the ester could be deemed a success as the percent yield came out to a total of 42%. From a mixture of 1.51 grams of cinnamic acid, 4.05 mL of methanol, and 20 mL of concentrated sulfuric acid, a total of 0.68 grams of ester was produced. The 42% yield came from dividing the actual mass of the ester (0.68 g) by the theoretical yield, which was calculated by the formula weight and the amount of moles used. Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report – CS6705 Prioritized Multi–Criteria Decision Making and Multi–Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi–Criteria decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi–Criteria Aggregation. To further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi–Criteria Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee's approval to pass it. This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact, there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To logically state this we can say 'Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B'. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Too Much Crying isn't a Good Thing Crying is undoubtedly one of the most common humanistic features when it comes to the emotions of the average person, due to the fact that every human being has shed tears for which ever reasons their emotions led them to. However, crying can also be the result of many other issues and can indicate a serious problem if done continuously and drastically to the point where it becomes a serious concern. In adolescents, it is more normal to cry as the child may not understand or know what to do about a situation, leaving them flustered, agitated, sad, angry, or any negative emotion causing them to cry. With these things being said, when crying is understood to be the result of an underlying deep rooted issue, the next step is to understand the enforcer that is keeping the behavior of crying continuous and figure out exactly how to decrease it to the point of normality. Crying has also yet to be examined systematically in isolation from other problem behavior, such as aggression or tantrums, during functional analyses (Hanley, Iwata, & McCord, 2003). Identification of variables that may maintain crying is especially important for populations who are susceptible to psychiatric interventions (e.g., individuals who have intellectual disabilities and communication deficits). The current study extended functional analysis methodology to crying with an adolescent boy who had been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities. Results suggested that crying was maintained by caregiver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 115. Principles for Cognizing the Sacred Essay Principles for Cognizing the Sacred Today we need a scientific analysis of basic world views which expresses genuine understanding of the sacred. Such world views hold the main principles for cognizing reality. A 'substratum' understanding of the Sacred is characteristic of mythology and magic, wherein all spiritual phenomena are closely connected with a material or corporeal bearer. Functional understanding of the Sacred is developed by the earliest civilizations in which the spiritual is separated from the material. For example, Plato, Aristotle, and Neoplatonism created European functional theology. Substantial understanding of the Sacred appears in Christianity. Here we find the synthesis of substratum and functional peculiarities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Soviet period, «idealism» and «materialism» emerged as a departure from ideological philosophy. For example, V.P. Kuzmin distinguished between «systematical» and «meta– systematical» understanding of objects. He also showed the appropriate stages and levels through which one could develop a true understanding of an object's essence.(1) A.Tchanyshev emphasized naturalistic and anthropomorphic principles for cognizing the essence of objects,(2) whereas B.T. Grigorian, through the principles of objectivism and subjectivism, made it possible to comprehend the notion of essence with regard to human beings.(3) Yu.A. Shreider juxtaposed naturalistic and individualistic principles for cognizing the world.(4) S.N. Smirnov emphasized functional and structural principles for the development of a scientific interpretation of objects.(5) S. Petrov distinguished between structural, functional, phenomenological, and substratum–substantial principles,(6) B.M. Kedrov between functional and substratum principles,(7) while A.R. Sokolov worked mainly with functional–substantial principles.(8) In the works of the authors mentioned above, one can discern the will to deny the dogmata of State Marxism in favour of a dialogue with Western philosophical and Church traditions. Today there have emerged quite new possibilities for such dialogue, although there remains a number of basic problems to be solved. One of the most important, is the ... • 123. Melting Point Analysis Of Acetaminophen ABSTRACT: The objective of this lab is to synthesize acetaminophen from p–aminophenol. The techniques used to do so, consist of: reflux with heat to allow reaction to occur at a reasonable time period, extraction and filtration to isolate the desired product, and characterization of the product by analyzing IR spectras and melting points. Acetaminophen considered synthesized, primarily due to the IR spectrum exhibiting all the bond vibrations is the amide group. The percent yield of 124.6% imply that there was a mechanical error that occurred, thus, also tampering with the progression of the chemical reaction. The wide melting point range of 165 C–169 C denote the impurity of the acetaminophen product. INTRODUCTION Chemical synthesis is an imperative technique most relevant to organic chemists. Synthesis employs a succession of chemical reactions by using pre–existing structures to make new and functional ones. A combination of lab techniques could be developed in order to synthesize and attain the desired product. This particular experiment calls for the use for reflux, extraction, recrystallization, infrared spectroscopy, and melting point analysis. The overall objective of this lab is to utilize these steps to synthesize acetaminophen from p–aminophenol and characterize it . • 127. Examining The Functional Connectivity Of A Whole Brain Atlas Background: The brain is often considered the most complex organ in the human body. It is also the most difficult to understand, given the vast array of different functions spread throughout its mass and the interconnected functionality of its regions that makes subdividing it based on form or function a difficult task. Craddock, et al. (2012), in the article examined, attempt to produce a method for further examining the functional connectivity (FC) of the regions of the brain and subdivide them based on spatial positioning and function. Understanding FC in the brain can significantly improve understanding of many brain functions and the effect of outside stimulus of various parts of the brain. This examination will only be able to take place by creating an accurate whole brain atlas. This creation of a whole brain atlas, or a map of the brain separating it into regions of interest (ROI) based positioning and/or function, has typically been done via fMRI analysis of the brain combined with an anatomically based mapping procedure. This study seeks to use fMRI technology combined with an algorithm to create voxel clusters or ROI's that optimize both spatial coherence and homogeneity in regards to the FC of the individual ROIs that can closely match of the results of a voxel–wise analysis, while improving on computation power required and interpretability. Clinical Significance: The usefulness of this technology and methodology can be found in both neurology research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 131. Functional Analysis Disadvantages a. Describe the rationale for conducting a functional analysis. What are the benefits and limitations of a functional analysis? Functional Analysis (FA) is a tool used to identify a functional relationship. In order to establish this relationship, a problematic behavior is operationally defined. Then, the environmental antecedents and consequences of the behavior are systematically manipulated in well–defined test and control conditions and the behavior is observed and measured. The goal of this is to identify the sources of reinforcement that maintain the behavior. Thus, the function of the behavior can be determined (Iwata & Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). One benefit of conducting a FA is that research has shown it to be more reliable than self–report measures, such as questionnaires or rating scales. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to do this, the therapist may inform the client that she is busy and then move away. However, when the client performs the problem behavior, the therapist should attend to the client immediately by addressing the problem behavior, which is the consequence. Then, the therapist should return to ignoring the client. If the problem behavior persists, then a possible function of the behavior is attention or social positive reinforcement (Iwata & Dozier, 2008; Jackson, 2017). The tangible condition is similar to the attention condition. In this condition, the therapist should allow the client free access to a preferred item prior to the session. At the beginning of the session, the therapist should remove the item and move away from the client. When the problem behavior occurs, the therapist should deliver the tangible item for about 30 seconds. Then, the therapist should move back away from the client. The functional connectivity maps using the fcPAT data from Nasiriavanaki and colleague's research was extracted using the seed–based analysis, where the Pearson correlation was used as the similarity metric cite{nasiriavanaki2014high}. After each seed's temporal trace was found, Pearson's correlation can be performed between the seed's temporal trace and the temporal trace of each pixel in the image. This results in a correlation map that shows functionally corresponding regions of the brain, both intra– and interhemispherically. The correlation maps for the mouse brain that were acquired with fcPAT can be shown in Figure 5 for a number of different seed locations. includegraphics[scale=0.5]{fig2} textit{Figure 5.} Functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... subsection{Parcellation} The purpose of the parcellation algorithm was to divide the surface of the brain into functional regions in a data–driven manner that does not require any input from the user cite{white2011imaging}. The avoidance of user intervention avoids any bias that accompanies the choice of seed location, and it removes the requirement for global signal regression cite{damoiseaux2009greater}. • 147. Reflection Essay Patience is the key in accomplishing anything. My most challenging class this year would be my Math Analysis Honors course. My main struggle was fully understanding the curriculum that I avoided my sophomore year, with Algebra 2 Honors. The curriculum was knowing the domain and range of a graph, I assumed that this notion would stay in Algebra 2 and not follow me into my next math course. Starting off the year, the class was simple as it was review of Algebra 2, however days later I am faced with domain and range. I took tests that dealt with this concept and would always get those specific questions wrong. I remember, my teacher saying how most concepts in math would never go away and would be there when taking math in college. My first thought was getting help right away and was exactly what I did. I stayed after school in the Godinez Grizzly Lounge where I got aid from a tutor who took her time in fully explaining the essential way to understand domain and range. After a couple of weeks attending tutoring sessions with her I felt more confident in working with domain and range and was able to get these questions right on the next test that I had. Learning how to figure out these two concepts on a graph was harder as a result of giving up my previous year. I knew, however that I needed to address the issue differently and that's what I did. Although I may not be an expert, I can now figure it out without having to guess or give up on the question. Aside from a challenging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
