Kiva.org provides concise summaries of entrepreneurs seeking small business loans in developing countries. Individual online lenders can provide small loans, which are aggregated and distributed through microfinance partners. This allows entrepreneurs access to affordable capital. Kiva aims to connect more entrepreneurs with supportive lenders to help alleviate capital constraints that limit small business growth.

p2p microfinance concept that I was working on before joining KivaPremal Shah
In late 2004 and 2005, while working at PayPal, I was working on a p2p microfinance concept with another partner. I later joined Kiva as President but there's a good bit of nostalgia and wisdom in this presentation around p2p microfinance -- a lot of which Kiva has implemented today. :)
p2p microfinance presentation before Kivaguestc0a771
I now work at Kiva, but thought that I would post up an early deck on the p2p microfinance concept I was developing while at PayPal in late 2004 and 2005. I eventually left PayPal to join Kiva in early 2006, but in case my hard drive crashes, wanted to make sure this presentation made it! Good bit of nostalgia.
Alternative lending options have grown rapidly over the past 10 years. This deck offers an overview of digital credit and key takeaways from contexts around the world.
Lending Circles demonstrate the ingenuity and resilience of communities that are outside of mainstream banking. Lending Circles have long been used in different communities across the world as an alternative way to support savings or provide an emergency reserve to meet community needs. Here in the US, lending circles are beginning to receive more and more attention as a tool that works for a range of communities. Join us to learn how Lending Circles work and hear from organizations in the Pacific Northwest that have started Lending Circles.

How to VC: Creating a VC fund portfolio modelDave McClure
This article aims to help VCs figure out how to size a venture capital fund, how many companies to include in your portfolio, and when and how to do follow-on investments. Most VCs aim to make a 3X (net) return on initial fund capital, at a ~20% net IRR. Note however, likely less than 10% of most VC funds achieve that goal.
Basic concepts of marketing and branding for venture capital. Emphasis on competitive differentiation (aka "How are you different/better than other VCs in your category?"). Specific focus on defining areas of "value add" that aren't BS.
How to define and position your VC brand to attract funding and dealflow.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

Kiva supports its low cost internet operations by charging social investors optional fees. Kiva has been a financially self sufficient 501c3 U.S. non-profit organization since November 2006. Based on time study data of MFIs using Kiva, the cost of staff time to post and maintain each client profile on Kiva.org ranges from < $1 USD to $10 USD. The average Kiva loan raised per client profile is $500USD – putting the average cost as a factor of the debt capital raised on Kiva to around 0.2% - 2%. According to the MIcroBanking Bulletin, the average write off ratio for all MFIs listed on the MIX is 1.3% in 2005. This number is subtracted from the cost equation since Kiva social investors bear default risk / all MFI write offs. Kiva’s loans are in U.S. dollars and Kiva’s policy is for MFIs to manage the currency risk. The cost of hedging short term loans varies by context and many MFIs simply do not hedge given the large savings spread by using Kiva. For most MFIs, Kiva represents the cheapest U.S. dollar debt capital source available. Comments:
