This document summarizes the key details of a student media production project. It discusses conducting research through questionnaires and focus groups to define a target audience of 16-21 year olds interested in supernatural/fantasy genres. It also covers learning progression from preliminary to full production, including improved skills with camera and editing software. The student believes a film company like Warner Brothers would be suited to distribute the supernatural film project based on the opening sequence created.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and convention of real media products?
This shot is a long shot ofNathan running out of the college
entrance with a frighten look on his face , which suggest
that he may be in danger of some sort. Our media product
is fantasy/ supernatural as time goes on during the film
character will start to change and involve into some the
extraordinary
2. How does your media product represent particular social
groups ?
• My media product represents particular social groups by aiming at its target
audience. The target audience my product is aimed at 16 – 21. The genre of the
product is supernatural/ fantasy. The majority of people in my target audience
are interested in this type of genre of films.
• This is proven through out the research in my planning period, the research our
group did was focus groups and questionnaires. The questionnaire which was
handed out to approximately 10 people, the questions were e.g. What types of
films do you prefer Hollywood blockbuster or small independent films? What
type of films do you like to watch ( Rom com Horror, Thriller Comedy and etc?)
How do you find about which films are on release (Internet, adverts, billboards
posters etc? And etc. The response to these questions was, that people like to
watch Hollywood blockbuster, comedy films and they hear about films through
trailers. Also another research that was taken out was a focus group which
included 10 people to watch 3 minutes of a film and answer questions about it
e.g. What are your overall thoughts on the opening sequence? Is the location,
seen in the opening sequence, important to the film? And etc which was
followed by answers.
3. Who would be your audience for your media product?
• The audience my media product is
between the age from 16 – 21 male and
female. The reason why I decided it to be
between that age range is because In my
group we all sat down and discussed the
this age group will best for our media
product which is genre of supernatural/
paranormal forces fantasy.
4. How did you attract/ address your audience
• First thing I did was talk to my group and we all
decided to base our target audience between 16- 21.
Then after we all agreed on our target audience we
carried out our research ( focus group and
questionnaires). I randomly approached people to
fill out my questionnaire to five boys and five girls to
be fair. Simple question like how old are you? What
types of cinemas do you go to? And etc. Our focused
group I asked a couple of friends to watch a mini clip
of part of a film and answer question about it.
5. Looking back at your preliminary task , what do you feel you
have learnt in the progression it to the full product
• The first thing that I have learnt from the switch from the preliminary task
to main task is that the use of the new equipment. In the preliminary task
my skills of using camera equipment were very poor however I able to use
it more efficiently. I have also learned all the equipment names for
example camera ,boom pool dolly and etc. I have also learn how to use the
editing system more efficiently as well (final cut) I am able to cut ,crop
more around footage to different sections to create a level run. The relates
to my editing because now I do not find it it as difficult as before when I
first starting editing on final cut.
6. What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
• The type of media institution that might
distribute my media product is film company
for example Wayne brothers. The reason for
the is because its opening sequence of a film.
