In this presentation I recap the progress made in Italy in the Pilot eTwinning 2015/16 in the different models, with feedback and comments by universities. Since 2013 Italy takes part to the eTwinning pilot that introduces modules on eTwinning in Initial Teacher Training classes and, in some cases, matches ITT Institutes in eTwinning projects.

3. How?
Only bottom up approach: when ambassador was also a Tutor at
university or volunteered to liase with Professors
We asked for a manifestation of interest by a Professor and
replied with a standard letter with rules and access to further
information. Flexible approach.
Sustainable approach: Students’ training must be mainly
Universities’ responsibility, with few agreed exceptions. We can
provide training to hosting schools and trainers, if agreed ahead
with the Regional School Authority
Some online training was provided by NSS for all (2 webinars)
Coordination, support and monitoring by NSS
4. At national level:
Different entries for eTwinning in the curriculum:
Part of the indirect traineeship and/or regular classes (64°Y, 35°Y,
22°and 3°Y - PA/CA,11° Y - PA)
Laboratories/subjects: General Didactic (MI-CA), English Language (MI-
FG-VR), Children’s Literature (PA-CA), Experimental Pedagogy (FI), Media
and ICT (GE)
Generally compulsory + on demand counselling
Formal recognition: hours, credits, points in the vote of the exam or
final thesis…
Use of training platform or direct registration in case of smaller
numbers, or both (total n. of registered students: 58)
5. Very positive feedback from students
Curricular integration
Universities seem interested in improving and widen the
experience in the next years
Some thesis by students, articles and posters by
professors
Great workload on Ambassadors, some for free

7. At European level
Feedback and comments
Student-student Projects, difficulties:
Finding compatible European partners
Planning at distance (usually one took the lead and if they were lucky
the other followed)
Different calendar, priorities, n. of students, subjects etc.
Very late start for all project activities, most are still in their initial
phase
BUT universities are very interested in estabilishing these
partnerships!

9. At European level
Feedback and comments
Projects with pupils, together with tutor:
Full and very positive experience, personal
satisfaction/motivation
Great load of extra work for students with very small
formal credit, if any
On voluntary basis, only a minority
Difficuties in finding eTwinning Tutors at hosting school
10. Future steps and possible improvements in Italy
Increase the n. of eTwinning teachers at hosting school (training)
<–> send trainees to eTw Schools increase «regular» eTw. proj.
Lobby for better recognition both for ambassadors’ work and
students’ participation in project work and more trainers’ training (If
we scale, we cannot count only on ambassadors)
Offer standard and regular eTwinning online modules for students
and/or tutors/trainers (certified)
Involved universities could try to bring in their E+ partners or other
Sharing the different pilot models in 3 countries [involving: introduction to eTw activity, plus projects (i) students only, (ii) students and pupils, (iii) student placement with eTw ambassador].
Presenters: Claus (DK), Elizabeth (FR)+Alexa (IT), Pilar (ES).
DK (existing/extending into early years)
FR /IT (extending across regions) 15 minutes (5 minutes + 5 minutes + 5 minutes of questions)
ES (integration into curriculum)
Each presenter, 10 min presentation including Q&A
name of project, partners involved
how long running for
summary of project: activities, project model
how developed/extended over time
how success is measured
