Look at things with a beginner's mind. A beginner's mind allows us to embrace the highest emotional qualities — such as enthusiasm, zeal, and optimism — to creatively move ourselves forward.
Success can be reached in a multitude of ways. The road you take is dependent upon what you want out of life.
Success is also subjective; if one chooses to live within one’s means and owes no debts, he or she may consider him- or herself successful, whereas another may see success in the numbers in their bank account.
Regardless of the definition, when we think of successful people, what attributes generally come to mind?
Happy. Confident. Relaxed. Positive. Strong.
As we get ready to welcome a new year and bid goodbye to another, I thought I’d share some of the habits I plan to practice this coming year to get through my adventures (both good and bad).

Habits To
Develop
In 2016
"Success can be
reached in a multitude
of ways. Deciding on
which road to take is
dependent upon what
one wants out of life."

2. and "goodbye" to another, I thought I’d share some of the
habits I plan to prac7ce this coming year to get through my
adventures (both good and bad):
As we get ready to say "welcome" to a
New Year
3. Everyone has limits, and being able to say
"no" is integral to maintaining those limits.
“No” is healthy when we s=ck to our
principles, when it keeps us focused on our
goals or if we need strength to change our
direc=on.
Say “NO”.
4. Feeling =red aCer a bad night’s sleep
hampers our decision-making.
There is no heroism in sleep
depriva=on. Just because we are
siHng at our desks longer, doesn’t
mean that we are more produc=ve.
Sleep more.
5. As we suggested in our book, "Survive to
Thrive," fearless, posi=ve people develop
mental capacity that allows them to adapt
with ease during adversity.
Resiliency begins with flexibility and
adaptability.
Develop resiliency.
6. Everyone should know a thing or two
about how to inspire and mo=vate
others — even people who are not in
leadership posi=ons.
Mo=va=onal people:
• Communicate openly and oCen
• Offer posi=ve reinforcement
• Walk the talk
Be motivational.
7. To achieve more, be happy, and make a
difference, one must consciously prac=ce
gra=tude.
When we are thankful for even the
smallest moments, life tends to send
rewards our way. Gratefulness rebounds
in all sorts of direc=ons and oCen opens
new doors.
Practice gratitude.
8. Food is the most fundamental of needs
for our survival and almost every major
event in our lives revolves around it.
The process of making food teaches us to
be mindful, embrace crea=vity, and push
for mastery.
Cook more often.
9. Wri=ng is a way to find inspira=on for
yourself and others.
Just like you don't have to be a chef to
cook for yourself, you don't have to
be a professional writer to get the
benefits of wri=ng.
Write Frequently
“I can shake off
everything as I write;
my sorrows disappear,
my courage is reborn.”"
- Anne Frank"
10. Crea=vity, innova=on, leadership, and
entrepreneurship — they all begin within us;
each is very much a human process.
So naturally, the more we humanize the way
we think and work, the more progress we
can make in these arenas. Timeless classic
books inspires us to understand what's
behind things like mindfulness, crea=vity,
innova=on and leadership.
Read classic books.
11. Beginner's mind is a prac=ce of approaching our experiences empty of
assump=ons.
A beginner's mind is what allows us to embrace the highest emo=onal
quali=es such as enthusiasm, zeal and op=mism to crea=vely move
ourselves forward.
Above all, navigate
with a beginner's mind.
