Children
Chapter 3
Effect of Parental Authority
Upon Persons of the Children
Article 220
The parents and those exercising
parental authority shall have with the
respect to
their unemancipated children or
wards the following rights and duties:
(1) To keep them in
their company, to
support, educate and
instruct them by right
precept and good
example, and to
provide for their
upbringing in keeping
with their means;
(2)To give them
love and affection,
advice and counsel,
companionship and
understanding;
(3) To provide them with
moral and spiritual
guidance, inculcate in them
honesty, integrity, self-
discipline, self-reliance,
industry and thrift,
stimulate their interest in
civic affairs, and inspire in
them compliance with the
duties of citizenship;
(4) To furnish them with good
and wholesome educational
materials, supervise their
activities, recreation and
association with others,
protect them from bad
company, and prevent them
from acquiring habits
detrimental to their health,
studies and morals;
(5) To
represent
them in all
matters
affecting their
interests;
(6) To
demand
from them
respect and
obedience;
(7) To impose
discipline on them as
may be required
under the
circumstances; and
(8) To perform such
other duties as are
imposed by law
upon parents and
guardians. (316a)
Article 221.
Parents and other persons exercising parental
authority shall be civilly liable for the injuries
and damages caused by the acts or omissions
of their unemancipated children living in their
company and under their parental authority
subject to the appropriate defenses provided by
law. [2180(2)a and (4)a ]

`Rights of a child

  • 1.
  • 2. Rights that ensure that a child is given all opportunities to develop his/her potential and evolve into a well-rounded individual Right to access to information and material from diverse sources and media (Art. 17)
  • 3. Right to education which aims at developing the child’s personality, talents, and mental and physical abilities to the fullest extent (Art. 28 and 29) Right of children of minority communities and indigenous populations to enjoy their own culture and practice their own religion and language. Right to recreation and cultural activities (Art. 31)

  • 16. To eat clean and nutritious food. To keep my home and its surroundings clean. To have a clean and active body. Kumain ng malinis at masustansyang pagkain. Panatilihing malinis ang aking tahanan at kapaligiran. Gawing malinis at malakas ang aking katawan.
  • 17. To be given opportunities for play and leisure. Mabigyan ng pagkakataon na makapaglaro at makapaglibang.
  • 18. To take care of my toys and keep them orderly. Ingatan at itago nang maayos ang aking laruan.
  • 19. To obtain a good education and develop my potential. Mabigyan ng sapat na edukasyon at mapaunlad ang aking kakayahan.
  • 20. To study well. To come to class on time and do my assignments. Mag-aral nang mabuti. Pumasok sa tamang oras at gumawa ng mga takdang- aralin.
  • 21. To be protected against abuse, exploitation, neglect, violence and danger. Mabigyan ng proteksyon laban sa pang-aabuso, panganib at karahasan.
  • 22. To be a law abiding citizen. Maging mamamayang masunurin sa batas.
  • 23. To live in a peaceful community and a wholesome environment. Manirahan sa isang payapa at tahimik na pamayanan.
  • 24. To participate in the development and maintain peace and order in my community. Makilahok sa pagpapaunlad at pagpapanatili ng kapayapaan at kaayusan sa aking komunidad.
  • 25. To be defended and given assistance by the government. Maipagtanggol at matulungan ng pamahalaan.
  • 26. To obey rules and regulations. Sumunod sa mga alituntunin at patakaran.
  • 27. To be able to express my own views. Makapagpahayag ng sariling pananaw.
  • 28. To speak and act responsibly. Maging responsable sa aking mga salita at gawa.
  • 29. To have freedom to join associations and peaceful assemblies. Makilahok sa mga samahan at mapayapang pagtitipon.
  • 30. To make use of my potential to the fullest Gamitin nang lubos ang aking talino at galing sa mabuting paraan.
  • 31. To develop my potentials. Mapaunlad ang aking kakayahan.

  • 33. To learn good manners and right conduct. Matutunan ang mabubuting asal at kaugalian.
  • 34. To be honest and respectful to others. Maging matapat at magalang.
  • 35. To be provided with good and wholesome educational materials. Pagkalooban ng mahuhusay at di malalaswang babasahin.
  • 36. To study well. To do my assignments. Mag-aral ng mabuti. Gumawa ng mga takdang- aralin.
  • 37. To be given care, support, education and guidance. Kupkupin, kalingain, papag-aralin at subaybayan ang aking paglaki.
  • 38. Learn the value of hardwork, thrift and self-reliance. Matutunan ang kahalagahan ng pagkamasipag, pagkamatipid at sariling pagsisikap.
  • 40. Chapter 3 Effect of Parental Authority Upon Persons of the Children Article 220 The parents and those exercising parental authority shall have with the respect to their unemancipated children or wards the following rights and duties:
  • 41. (1) To keep them in their company, to support, educate and instruct them by right precept and good example, and to provide for their upbringing in keeping with their means;
  • 42. (2)To give them love and affection, advice and counsel, companionship and understanding;
  • 43. (3) To provide them with moral and spiritual guidance, inculcate in them honesty, integrity, self- discipline, self-reliance, industry and thrift, stimulate their interest in civic affairs, and inspire in them compliance with the duties of citizenship;
  • 44. (4) To furnish them with good and wholesome educational materials, supervise their activities, recreation and association with others, protect them from bad company, and prevent them from acquiring habits detrimental to their health, studies and morals;
  • 45. (5) To represent them in all matters affecting their interests;
  • 47. (7) To impose discipline on them as may be required under the circumstances; and
  • 48. (8) To perform such other duties as are imposed by law upon parents and guardians. (316a)
  • 49. Article 221. Parents and other persons exercising parental authority shall be civilly liable for the injuries and damages caused by the acts or omissions of their unemancipated children living in their company and under their parental authority subject to the appropriate defenses provided by law. [2180(2)a and (4)a ]
