EMPOWERING YOURSELF The Organizational GAME Revealed by: Harvey J. Coleman Introduction Misconception -  “Work hard and you’ll get ahead!” There are “unwritten rules” that are so important in a successful career or life.  You need to know how “the system” works and how “the game “ should be played, if gaining empowerment or owning/controlling your career is an objective in your life. The People Game “ The faster anyone moves in a career, the harder a person tries, the more it hurts when the goal is missed.” You are in charge of your destiny!  KILL ALL Your career, and life is part of the game, but the ingredient that makes it all work is  “PEOPLE”. If you, as well as others are working nights, weekends and holidays, what will distinguish you from them? $ Money is just a by-product of your relationship with people. “ Life is a game, the game is about people; everything else is detail” “ No one said the game would be fair or easy” “ Without competition you cannot achieve excellence” Ronald Regan Reading the Environment Top players knows the rules of the organizational structure. You must speak the business language. “ An appreciation of group culture is vital to individual advancement” Organizational Language Verbal Interplay Non-Verbal Cues (body language) Manner of Dress Attitude P.I.E. – A Formula for Success Scapegoat 10% 30% 60% Performance = Pay $ / Potential = Promotion Performance.. The Entry Ticket “ Your performance can’t  be accomplished in a vacuum” Need a plan that is agreed upon by both you and your manager.
