- 19. In November 1997, agreements were signed in 1991 and 1994 between Russia and China.
- 20. Disputes about borders have largely been eliminated but the two governments continued disagreeing for 50 more years over islands near Khabarovsk.
- 21. Measures have regularly been discussed since 1994, with agreements between 1994 and 1999.
- 22. The last border agreement, signed in December 1999, settled the dispute which called for the development of the Amur River region.

- 35. The Khabarovsk Bridge was a railway bridge
- 36. that carried the Trans-Siberian Railway across the Amur River near Khabarovsk, Russia.
- 37. It was the longest bridge in Soviet Union and Asia for decades.
- 38. However, a year after construction began on July 30, 1913 the First World War broke out
- 39. The bridge was finally completed on October 5, 1916.
- 41. Floods
- 42. More than 20,000 people evacuated from flood-stricken areas in Russia's far east where the Amur river burst its banks after heavy rain.
- 43. The army and emergency workers set up temporary shelters across three regions, providing life necessities.
- 44. The Amur and Khabarovsk regions are worst affected.
- 45. Both the Amur river and a major tributary, the Zeya, have flooded huge areas in what is said to be the region's worst flooding in 120 years.
- 46. The damage so far has reached $91m.
- 47. Experts suggest the flooding will worsen for the next few days and the weather forecast promises more rain. The flood waters are expected not to fully recede until September.
- 48. BENEFITS
- 49. The reason why Oyashio provides us of rich fish resources is that this current contains large amount of nutrients indispensable for phytoplankton growth, which is fundamental of marine ecosystem.

- 51. Since 1896, floods have been burdening the residents living near Amur river. Recently, the Amur river flood surpassed the 1984 height record with 43.37 metres and also affected some 170000 people.
