- 9. • Canadian and US grids are interconnected north / south • Canadian hydropower offers affordable and reliable electricity prices because it is not subject to volatile fuel prices • For every dollar the USA spends on Canadian energy, the USA receives back 91 cents from the products that Canadians buy from the USA • Each Terawatt Hour of Canadian hydropower exported to the USA displaces between 500,000 and 1,000,000 mt of CO2 • Hydropower helps integrate new renewable electricity such as wind and solar in both the USA and Canada • Canadian hydropower is currently less than 1% of USA electricity supply Canadian Hydropower in North America 9

Electric Vehicles • Hydro under current development is more than enough to electrify the current Canadian Light Duty Vehicle (LDV) fleet • Each province (Maritimes combined) has enough undeveloped hydro to electrify their own LDV fleets • Half of undeveloped Canadian hydro could fuel all Canadian LDVs and ~25% of the US fleet • If all Canadian LDVs were powered by hydro, GHG emissions would be reduced by ~ 70 megatonnes per year 10

Its members span the breadth of the industry and, with nearly 50 members, include hydropower producers, manufacturers, developers, engineering firms, organizations and individuals interested in the field of hydropower.
