1. TEXPATS NYC & BROOKLYN KOLACHE CO. TO HOLD BENEFIT FOR VICTIMS OF WEST, TX ON
SUNDAY, APRIL 28TH
TEXAS SHINER BOCK BEER & KOLACHES OFFERED WITH DONATION
April 24, 2012 (Brooklyn, NY) - A group of Texans living in New York City have banded together to hold a benefit for the
town of West, TX this Sunday, April 28th from 3-6pm. The event is organized by Texpats NYC and is sponsored by Brooklyn
Kolache Co. and Shiner Bock Beer, who will provide guests food and drinks with a required $20 contribution to the
donation jar. 100% of the proceeds from the benefit will go to victims in West via POINTWEST Bank.
The Texan community was rocked last week with news that a fertilizer plant in the small town of West, TX had killed 14,
injured over 200 more, and badly damaged the small Texas town. The news hit home for many Texans, who had often
stopped in the town of West on road trips between Austin and Dallas on Interstate-35.
Everyone who goes through West visits either the Czech Stop or the Village Bakery, two bakeries specializing in kolaches,
a traditional Czech pastry that is filled with either sweet or savory fillings like fruit, cheese, or sausage, which Czech
immigrants brought with them to Texas. Brooklyn Kolache Co. pays homage to the Czech-Texas style of kolaches at its
Bed-Stuy location and is the only place to get a kolache in the city.
Brooklyn Kolache Co. partnered with Meetup group, the Texpats, a collective of Texas transplants in NYC, to create the
benefit and are excited to have Texas-brewed, Shiner Bock Beer as a sponsor. Shiner has been produced at the Spoetzel
Brewery in the town of Shiner, TX since 1909, but just started being sold at limited locations in NYC on April 15th, 2013.
