Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

Tit 2:11 For the grace
of God that bringeth
salvation hath
appeared to all men.
5. The Grace of God! Tit. 2:11-15
• Tit 2:11-15 For the grace of God that brings salvation
has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the
blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God
and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that
He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify
for Himself His own special people, zealous for good
works. Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all
authority. Let no one despise you.
6. Probably one of the most used
words by Christians is “Grace!”
• Almost every song we sing contains this
word!
• Truly God’s grace is an amazing
concept!
• Yet, it seems that often this word is
misused and misunderstood by many!
7. • Today we want to work together to better
understand “the grace of God!” and what it is and
how it affects our lives!
• Grace = favor or kindness shown without regard
to the worth or merit of the one who receives it and
in spite of what that person deserves! (Nelson)
• Grace is a key attribute of God! (Ex. 34:6) It is
always associated with mercy, love and
compassion!
8. Two amazing things God does for us
He shows us mercy and He gives us grace!
• Mercy = God withholding the punishment we all deserve!
(Rom. 3:23 and 6:23)
• Eph 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great
love with which He loved us.
• Grace = God giving us the blessing that we don't deserve!
(Eph. 2:8)
• Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
• Grace is what God gives us that we desperately need, but
can never earn alone!
9. The religious world has always had its extremes
when it comes to the salvation of sinners!
• Some have felt that man can be right with God based
on perfect obedience, or that their right acts will cancel
out their wrong!
• Some have felt that man can do nothing in order to be
saved, that salvation is “wholly by the grace of God!”
• What is the truth?
• Can man save himself?
• Is there anything man must do to be saved?
10. Saved by Grace!
• Eph 2:4-9 But God, who is rich in mercy, because
of His great love with which He loved us, even when
we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together
with Christ (by grace you have been saved), that in the
ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of
His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works,
lest anyone should boast.
11. I. What Grace Isn’t!
Grace does not exclude all law and all
commandments!
• I have often heard Christians say “we are
no longer under any law, we are now only
under grace!”
• The question must be asked, is this truly
the case? Are we now without law, because
we are under grace?
12. • Rom 6:14-18 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for
you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall
we sin because we are not under law but under grace?
Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present
yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom
you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience
leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though
you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that
form of doctrine to which you were delivered. And having
been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
• We are not called to be “out-laws” but “in-law” with Christ!
13. The NT teaches that we are under the law of
Christ!
• 1Cor 9:21 To them that are without law, as without law,
(being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,)
that I might gain them that are without law.
• Js 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty,
and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but
a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
• Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
14. Grace does not mean there will be
universal salvation!
Meaning that everyone will be saved because of grace!
• The Bible clearly teaches that not all will be saved!
• Mt 7:13-14 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate
and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are
many who go in by it. "Because narrow is the gate and difficult
is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
• Mt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall
enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My
Father in heaven."
15. Grace does not mean faith only!
• Jn 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers
many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees
they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out
of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men
more than the praise of God.
• Js 2:19 & 24 You believe that there is one God.
You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble!
You see then that a man is justified by works, and
not by faith only.
16. Grace does not mean that one cannot
fall away!
• The Bible is filled with warns concerning a Christian falling away!
• 1 Cor 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed
lest he fall.
• Heb 4:11 ... lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
• 2 Pet 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are
again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with
them than the beginning.
• Ga 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are
justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
17. • Often time we seem to lean to much
in one of two directions and when doing
so we then find that our conclusion no
long fits the entirety of Gods Word.
• Ps 119:160 The sum of thy word is
truth; And every one of thy righteous
ordinances endureth for ever.
• We have to consider all the pieces!
18. II. What Grace Is!
Grace is God’s unmerited favor!
• Grace is the means by which man can approach God,
when we could never hope to be right with God by our own
merits!
• Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.
• 2 Tim 1:9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and
grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.
• What we could never do alone, God has done for us!
19. Men have always tried to justify
themselves before God!
• Men have sought God through philosophy (Act. 17; Col. 2)
• Men have sought God through obedience to a legal system!
• Yet man has always failed! (Rom. 3:10-12, 23)
• Man cannot correct his sin problem alone!
• We are all bankrupt without God’s grace! (Mt. 5:3)
• Those that reject God’s grace deserve the punishment they
will receive in the final judgment, because we are all guilty!
• Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is
eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
20. God’s grace is expressed in the
sending of His Son to die for man!
(Heb. 2:9; 2 Cor. 8:9 and Eph. 1:7)
• The cross is the place where the justice
of God (payment for sins) and the love of
God (desire for men to be saved) meet!
• This is what grace is all about, God taking
our place so we can be saved!
• God paying the price of our sins! (2 Cor.
5:17-21) “He that knew no sin, became sin!”
21. Conclusion:
• Praise God for His amazing grace!
• It is sad that God has done so much for us and
that so few have come to truly receive God’s grace.
• Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth
salvation hath appeared to all men,
• Have you come to receive God’s grace in your
life? Have you come to love and obey Him? If not,
why not come today?
