2. Why the DORA Assessment?
Your transformation success relies on your ability to:
• Measure Key Outcomes.
We measure, track, and benchmark the most important outcomes for success.
• Drive improvement through Capabilities
Capabilities are levers that help you improve your outcomes. We show you
which ones are the most important.
• Identify Priorities for capability improvement
We show you which capabilities to focus on first.
• Track your Progress
Reassessments show the value of your investments and identify next steps.
3. Measure Key Outcomes
Outcomes are your high-level measures
that indicate how well your teams are
delivering software, and if it is sustainable.
This outcomes chart shows us that we have room for
improvement compared to the Industry High Performers.
Our practitioners report burnout above industry averages, but
lower than average levels of deploy pain.
Dark black lines indicate the industry benchmark
(50th percentile) for each outcome. Benchmarks are
also available at the company level and by industry
vertical.
The team’s performance on each outcome is
represented by how far out the area is shaded.
Outcomes with a goal of minimizing (such as
burnout) are shown in red.
4. Capabilities Drive Improvement
This capabilities chart reports how the team is doing.
• Low on: Change Process, Trunk-based development, WIP
Limits and Visualization of Work
• High on: Learning Culture, Failure
Notification
Capabilities are the levers that help you
improve outcomes. As you improve your
capabilities, you drive improvement in
your ability to develop and deliver
software both quickly and reliably.
Dark black lines indicate the industry benchmark
(50th percentile) for each capability. Benchmarks
are also available at the company level and by
industry vertical.
The team’s performance on each capability is
represented by how far out the area is shaded.
For all capabilities, more is better.

5. Priorities for Improvement
CapabilityStrength
Impact on Software Delivery Performance
This analysis is specific to your organization
and identifies which capabilities are your
constraints, or bottlenecks, to high
technology performance. That is, this tells
you which capabilities to focus on first.
This lets technology leaders plan resource
allocation so their investments will have the
highest impact.
The goal is to identify capabilities with the lowest
strength that also have the highest Impact on Software
Delivery Performance.
Recommended focus areas:
1. Process Control
2. Monitoring
3. Small Batch Development
4. Test Data Management
5. Continuous Integration

• Everyone takes a 15- to 20-min survey
4. Generate and Deliver Reports
• Team capabilities and outcomes benchmarked against the organization
• Team capabilities and outcomes benchmarked against the industry
• Prioritization analysis, with capabilities arranged by impact to Technology Performance
