5. In case you nod off, this is what I
am covering in this session:
• 7 Reasons why you should be recruiting on YouTube
• How I used YouTube to recruit candidates for
Microsoft
• Cool tools, best practices and sourcing tricks
• Whatever else I forgot to add to this list
7. Everybody else
In terms of views
on free video
sites, this is how
YouTube looks
compared to
others.
8. Nearest competitor has 150
million monthly visitors vs 1
Billion YouTube visitors
YouTube is clearly the market leader!
9. The stats are
mind-blowing!
1 hour of video is uploaded to
YouTube EVERY SECOND!
More U.S. Based 18-34 Year-olds watch YouTube
than they do cable TV
40% of YouTube's views come
from mobile devices
700 tweets per minute contain a YouTube link
More than 1 billion unique users visit YouTube each month.
Millions of subscriptions happen each day. The number of
people subscribing daily is up more than 3x since last year.
10. 80% of YouTube
traffic comes
from outside

12. What are the chances that you can
create a video that can seriously
compete for the attention of passive
candidates?
13. 15 of the videos
cited herein were
user-generated
and not
professional
productions.

Universal Search
31. Take a moment and consider
the possibilities of this…
32. Hmm… I am too embarrassed to ask my manager or my peers how to
do this so, I will look up the answer myself and save face.
Med Techies seeking help could find your tutorials which incidentally, mention your careersite.
*
* What kind of tutorials are
people searching for?
33. Hmm… I am always trying to fill this job. This is the hardest req’ ever!
Create a video explaining the duties of a hard to fill job in a certain location. Get the attention of
passive candidates seeking the work and (maybe) those willing to relocate there.
*
* No videos in the search results is a signal of opportunity for you to have
an advantage over competitors seeking the same talent.
34. What if people thinking about relocating to your city saw your videos?
Hmm… How could you use this strategy to attract those relocating?
35. Using Google Suggest I see the most popular Google searches related to keywords and phrases.
If it were me, I would focus on videos that match these popular searches.

40. In other words, YouTube wants you
to stay on YouTube as long as possible.
They do this in a number of ways.
41. Psst… Did you know that you could benefit from the popularity
of other people’s recruitment videos? Just sayin’…
Google groups related videos together to increase view time on YouTube.
42. Google is also auto-generating topic pages. Look what I found when I
searched on “sourcing!”
Click on “Channels” and find more topic pages related to the topic page you are currently on.
43. This reminds me of how Amazon recommends books to its customers.
Submit a video to Fan Finder via your channel. Get exposed to potential subscribers for free.
45. Some people self-identify themselves according to their job title.
Everyone who has an account on YouTube does not fill out the “About” section but, many do.
46. Don’t forget that Google is not the only search engine out there.
I was pleasantly surprised by how many results Bing had vs Google.
47. Hmm… People who make tutorials might be people I want to hire.
At the least, they may have some referrals for me.
Producers of how-to videos and industry opinion may be good sources of hires and referrals.
48. Thanks YouTube for making it easy for me to contact people on your system.
This is cool. I can get an idea of how influential they are (a) and I can send an email to them (b) via their YouTube email box.
* Did you notice the G+ and Twitter logo? More than one way to reach out.

49. Hmm… Someone who comments on a nursing video might be a Registered Nurse.
Reach out to people who comment on videos related to what you recruit for.
50. It seems like there is a channel for everything!
Every channel has at least 3 lead sources: channel owner, commenters and subscribers.
*Contact owners
and commenters
directly. Ask owner
to refer leads your
way.
52. Email videos from your phone directly to your YouTube channel.
Have you considered posting videos from an event from your cellphone?
53. Edit your videos for free on YouTube. Royalty-free music is also available to you.
Did you know that you YouTube has given you a production studio?
54. Sooo many possibilities here! Let me share a few.
