Media tech used in planning, construction & evaluation
1. 4. Howdid you use media technologiesin the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
I used Media technology throughout my entire period of creating this coursework - especially in the
construction,planning, evaluation and research stages of the production. Eventually my partner and I
decided to create a new video for Oasis’ “Wonderwall”.
In my research stage,I used ‘Google Chrome’ to find multiple music tracks that I believed my partner
and I could successfully create videos for. In order to view the official videos and analyse themwe used
‘Youtube‘, before switching to ‘Microsoft Word’ for our analysis. Social Media sites,such as
’Facebook’, were also used for research as we created a survey and invited a select amount of friends
onto a page to answer this. After this we used ‘Word’ again to help analyse and explain what the results
were, which allowed to us to see exactly what it was that attracted the majority of people to a music
video.
The planning stage involved the aforementioned technology,which we used to create a basis template for
our works’ development. Firstly we analysed the lyrics and decided what kind of scenes and shots we
would use in our video. We took pictures of the analysed lyrics and uploaded them to the computer and
eventually placed themon our blog using ‘Google Chrome‘, something that became useful later on in the
project as it allowed us to refer to them whenever we needed to change a scene or came up with a new
idea. Anotherform of technology used was ‘Survey Monkey’ - an online website that allowed us to
create our own questionnaire,link it to ‘Facebook’ and collect the responses offcandidates with little
difficulty. Once we had gathered all the responses to ourindividual questionnaires,we analys ed the
results and summarised them on ‘Word’ with several charts alongside the paragraphs.Finally, we used
Adobe Photoshop in order to create templates for both Ancillary 1 and 2 - the Digipak and Posters that
would be required to help advertise the band and it’s cover of the song chosen.
In the construction stage we continued to use Adobe Photoshop while building upon the templates we
created for our Digipak and Poster. Upon finishing the first draft of these Ancillaries, we uploaded them
to Blogger using Chrome, which allowed us to access them from any computer both within and outside
of college. For the first draft of the music video, we used Adobe Productions Pro - coupling several short
videos together, making them transfer smoothly and placing the background track in when we were
satisfied. We also used Microsoft Word in order to update the production diaries that we were required to
fill out, as this would allow an examiner or the individual marking to see the process we had been
through.
In the Evaluation stage, I used a site online called Prezi, Word, Facebook and PowerPoint. On Facebook
we posted a link to our video and asked a number of questions to a selected group of people.
After receiving the responses required we then began to answer four questions set by the task guidelines,
using Word, PowerPoint and Prezi to analyse all of these responses.
