6. Using developing and
challenging conventions.
A magazine can either use develop or challenge
the typical conventions. The conventions
presented are expected to copy and have
certain, well used patterns of magazine
designs. Conventions are sometimes adapted
slightly to create a different effect or even
impact for the reader. Conventions are varied
from the normal magazine designs that are
seen, things like the layout, words or image
have probably been changed.
7. The streetwear magazine follows the title
conventions as it is plain text, centered at the top of
the page. It is a normal Masthead. It challenges
coverline conventions by moving it to the center of
the page more and challenges conventions of having
a skyline or puffs to make the image more basic and
neat.
The Thrasher, Supreme and streetwear magazines
all follow generic colour scheme conventions as the
all have other elements of the magazine that match
other things in terms of colour. Like the main images
hat matching the cover lines in thrasher, the clotting
of the main image matching that of the masthead in
supreme and the jacket of the streetwear model
matching the filter used for the whole page. Most
magazines have a continued colour scheme
throughout and these three magazines follow them
Ollie challenges colour scheme conventions as the
colours used don't seem to match a lot of the page
and more colour than you would normally see have
been used. They catch the eye of the reader and add
to the spontaneous theme of the magazine.
The skyline convention is developed in both Ollie and
Thrasher. The Thrasher magazine bullet points the
skyline and blows it out. The Ollie magazine has the
skyline shrunken and in the corner.
Thrasher challenges conventions as opposed to the
other three magazines, the main image is a scenery
with the subject towards the top of the photo.

17. Technology and process
Physical Technology
Cameras will be used to photograph any models and
a studio will provide the lighting and backdrop. The
cameras will need to have a lot of options to fine
tune a photo and need to be in a decent quality. The
camera would need to be used alot so would need
to b rechargeable. Any studio used will need to be
equipped with a backdrop and props for the models.
Printing
Printers will print the actual magazine, a colour
printer would be need. As printing a magazine would
be a timely job for a basic printers, Magazine would
be printed in large quantities with industrial printers.
The hardware would need to be more advanced to
produce the highest quality photos. a printing press
is equipped for this. The hardware is any computer
that runs the printer so it would need to be able to
send information to the printer constantly
Software
The most up to date Photoshop would be needed to
design all the images and and text. The layout of the
magazine is done in photoshop. Promotional software
could be electronic billboards in busy places, adverts in
mobile apps and any other advertisements.
Digital Technology
Computer hardware would be used to store
photographs and a lot of memory would be required. A
good graphics card is needed. A camera's internal
memory would be little compared to that of a memory
card so a decent memory card would be required to
store all the photos a photographer may take. This can
then be loaded onto a computer easily. Computers
must have a good speed in order to handle all of the full
resolution photos stored on it.
18. These images are tidy and relevant to the
articles they represent. it makes it easier for
readers to find relevant topics and articles
they want.
The main contents details everything in the
magazine and follows the colour scheme of
the rest of the magazine. A brief summary of
each part is included.
The main image blends into the text and
follows conventions of a normal main image.
The text is above the subject allowing for it to
stand out.
As there is alot to fill in this section, each title
is compact and colour coded to make
reading easier.
Any extra links and pieces of information are
on the bottom.
The font used for the title is a urban style so
the desigher would be following the theme
here. The colour scheme makes things esier
to read and is aestically pleasing. It helps
make things stand out and is followed
throughout the magazine. The images
underneath the masthead are in a row to
provide a space for the text. The designer
draws readers eyes to each section of the
page by using seperators and dividers.
19. The main image is presented to be a close
up taking up the whole page. The subject
is wearing the colour schemes colours. His
facial expression is clear and and would
look at the person reading the magazine.
The smoke may present a theme of
mystery
The title is centered and bold and stands out to the reader. The
simple colours used may suggest the target audience would be
older.
The subtitle is
bold and
placed under
the title and
asks a
rhetorical
question. this
would draw
the reader to
read on into
the article to
see the
question
answered.
The main
body of text is
in two
columns and
follows
conventions
This text
follows the
colour scheme
Paragraph
starters are
set a different
colour from
the text to
emphasise it
and make it
easier for the
reader to find
it again
The smoke on the main image sets an atmosphere for the article, the
black background contrass this and the title uses similar colours to link
the whole page together. The font used is that of a sporty nature. The
urban style of the subjects hat shows the charecter of the subject and his
personality and style. Men may appeal to the article more than women
for the darker colors used.
20. The masthead challenges conventions and is
set to the side to make room for the main
image. This may be to make room for the main
image
The article number is opposing to the rest of the
image as it is presented in a different colour. It
stands out and may suggest to the readers to
read all the other articles and more are to
come.
The main image follows conventions. The
crown used suggests the subjects level of
expertise in his profession and how it may be
seen as an honour to have an article of him in
the magazine. It encourages the reader to read
the articles as they may want to know why he
has been given that title.
The coverlines are set over the main image with
important parts set in bold. It is easy to read
and seperated into sections. each point is
numbered.
The colour scheme used would suggest the
target audience is older than a child but younger
than an elderly. Th filter above the image sets a
light theme and the dark colours the subject is
wearing follows the text.
21. The main image has a stern expression suggesting that the article will be
serious and significant to him. This catches the reader's eye to want to read
on.
The masthead is the artist's trademark
name and sets the colour scheme for
the whole article. The red connotes
aggression and power.
The darkness
emphasises
the emotion
and
seriousness
of the article.
This colour
may suggest
the target
audience is
matured and
will
understand a
more serious
story.
The urban trend and masculine
pose of the subject suggest the
target audience are males. What he
is wearing follows the colour
scheme.
From the
layout and
language
used the
target
audience
may be
older as
they may
find it easier
to read.
The main image is to the left of the text, framing the image. This follows
conventions and makes the pages look well presented and neat. This
magazine may be read by people in social class C2 as this type of
magazine would apply to someone who occasionally reads a magazine and
follows the news.
