1. The invitations have been
rolling in for L.A. Fashion Week
and here is one event that
looks enticing.... a "Parisian
Afternoon" with Joan Collins,
Angela Tassoni Newley jewelry
and Lloyd Klein Couture. Klein
was formerly the head
designer at Mme. Grès in Paris
and many of his gowns
incorporate her beautiful
pleating techniques (case in
point - the lovely green gown
worn by Natalie Cole pictured
below!). Champagne, couture
and Joan Collins at the Klein
castle? It should be a lovely if
not fabulously decadent
"Parisian Afternoon" indeed!

But today, we received an interesting invitation
for “A Parisian Afternoon” on March 24th. It’s a
showing of jewelry by Angela Tassoni Newley,
who is the daughter in law of Joan Collins
(married to her son Sacha, who is painter) – and
Joan Collins herself is hosting it at Lloyd Klein’s
store on Beverly Blvd. In fact, designer Klein and
Joan are co-hosting, and it’s the fanciest email
invite we’ve ever received. Angela Tassoni
Newley’s jewelry is made of antique brooches and
is sold in some very impressive stores. We just
had to report that Joan Collins is hosting an LA
fashion week event – it’s so Hollywood cool and
kitsch, right?

Lloyd Klein Show is the
Fabulous Cherry on Top of LAFW
Thursday, March 25, 2010, by Lisa Boosin
While we're big fans of the DIY "little fashion show that could" vibe that characterized much of
LAFW, we were delighted to receive an invite to view the Ultra-Luxe Lloyd Klein collection in his
regal showroom. Hosted by Joan Collins. JOAN COLLINS!!! Klein showed a collection of Alexis
Carrington-worthy gowns and dashing looks. The afternoon wouldn't have been complete
without stunning, statement-making jewelry, provided by Angela Tassoni Newley. Despite the
fact that we were positively flummoxed by the challenge of finding an outfit to wear to a couture
event hosted by Joan Collins, all this glam was a welcome way to close out Fashion Week.

6. Joan Collins hosts a fashion and jewelry
presentation with Lloyd Klein
March 25, 2010
The invite for Lloyd Klein's fall 2010 presentation had me at "Joan Collins."
The petite "Dynasty" star co-hosted the event, "A Parisian Afternoon," with the designer on Wednesday afternoon at Klein's Beverly
Boulevard boutique. (Collins' daughter-in-law, jewelry designer Angela Tassoni Newley, also presented her collection of glitzy statement
baubles, Tassoni, at the event.)
And I wasn't the only one anxious for a glimpse of the iconic actress -- whose "Dynasty"-era style has influenced brands from Balmain
to Forever 21 in recent years.
A gaggle of reporters and guests anxiously awaited her arrival. And when she finally swept in the front door, wearing a drape-y black
dress and loads of gold jewelry, even actress Shannon Elizabeth wasn't above taking a quickie snapshot of the actress from afar.
Collins posed for photographers in front of a bank of models wearing Klein's newest collection -- a mix of separates and and cocktail
dresses featuring the designer's signature detailing and meticulous tailoring -- posed in rotating still-life vignettes. Meanwhile, Newley,
whose line mixes vintage elements with 14- to 24-carat gold, crystals and precious and semi-precious stones, displayed her bold pieces
on glass vitrines in the back of the shop.
Klein, who's been friends with Newley for years and personally went to pick up Collins for the event, revealed that he has a clutch of
diffusion collections in the works -- all of which will bear the Lloyd Klein name or initials.
"We're going to cover all the markets with the different brands," he said. "But they will all be about California. You know how much I
love L.A.“

Eighties Are Back...

EIGHTIES ARE BACK: The Eighties may be long past, but some of the era’s more notable figures were well
represented on Wednesday afternoon at the Lloyd Klein boutique in Los Angeles, when Betsy Bloomingdale, Joan
Collins, Natalie Cole and Barbara Davis were among the attendees at the designer’s fall 2010 presentation. “I love
evening dresses that are wearable, elegant — not too many frills or over-the-top details,” said Bloomingdale, who
looked sharp in a taupe wrapped sweater and pencil skirt.
A slender-looking Cole, who cited Reem Acra and Yigal Azrouël among other fashion favorites, tried on ornate
necklaces by Angela Tassoni Newley — Collins’ daughter-in-law — in the front of the boutique, while Collins and
friends observed a private showing of Klein’s fall gowns in a back VIP area. “The draping is marvelous, and just
look at the train,” said the “Dynasty” diva of the flowing silk evening gowns. “They can be difficult to walk in,
though. Do you remember once, at the Carousel [of Hope] ball, Jane Seymour tripped on the train of her gown?
And it was just this little thing!”

Events – A Flashback Moment with
Joan Collins and Lloyd Klein
by lilliam
This was the deal. Joan Collins (as in JOAN freaking COLLINS!) was hosting a party to introduce Tassoni Jewelry, created by her
daughter-in-law Angela Tassoni Newley. I was beyond excited as I walked over to designer Lloyd Klein’s couture house on
Beverly Boulevard. As a small group waited for the Dynasty star to grace us with her glamorous presence, models posed in
Klein’s latest collection. And when I mean pose, I mean “severe drama” pose. See the fabulousness, after the jump.
“I wanted to do something different, more intimate for fashion week,” says Klein. “This is just a get together with
my friends.” What a get together. The models changed several times during the event, showcasing his current
looks in elaborate choreographed postures. It was definitely a different take to the “oh hum” fashion runway
shows.
In a separate room, the jewelry collection was displayed with many of the guests trying on the vintage
constructed pieces. Tassoni explains she uses antique finds to create one-of-a-kind necklaces with price points
that range from $300-$5000. “I want my pieces to make a statement,” she says.
And when Collins finally made her entrance, everyone pulled out their camera for a shot. I heard her joking how
she only expected a couple of people to show up. And yes, she still looks amazing. (You must read this recent
article she wrote for the Daily Mail regarding the lack of brawny actors. She names names!) After only a few more
minutes, Collins disappeared. I soon left feeling like I need to amp up my outfits with more gold and severe
shoulder pads.

12. Joan Collins helps Lloyd
Klein celebrate Fall. Yes,
you heard me right.
Where Joanie goes, we follow.
The inimitable Joan Collins co-hosted an event at Lloyd Klein on Beverly Boulevard
yesterday, “A Parisian Afternoon,” featuring models in vignettes showcasing the designer’s
Fall 2010 collection (which happened to be gorgeous in its woolen simplicity and clever
detailing — i.e. subtle quilting on the bottom on a blazer).
Collins’ daughter-in-law, jewelry designer Angela Tassoni Newley, was also a part of the
shindig — displaying her over-the-top jewelry in the back of the store. Guests included
actress Shannon Elizabeth, Natalie Cole and social doyenne Barbara Davis.
Collins, who showed up about an hour into the festivities, stood in front of a bank of lensmen,
patiently letting them fire off a few shots, before announcing “Alright! Thank you!” and
sashaying, Alexis Carrington-style, into a back room to confab with Klein. Never to be seen
again.

14. A Parisian Afternoon at
Lloyd Klein
Posted: March 26, 2010

Champagne, caviar and Joan Collins. It was just another day at Lloyd Klein’s couture house on Beverly
Blvd. Leave it to the French designer to create a “Parisian Afternoon” in Hollywood.
And a lovely afternoon it was with icons of Hollywood style in attendance. Betsy Bloomingdale, Natalie Cole, Barbara
Davis and Collins all stopped by to see the latest looks from Klein and jewelry by Angela Tassoni-Newley who co-
hosted the event.
“I thought it was interesting to do something during fashion week and make it a tradition,” said Klein. The couturier
who formerly was the head designer for Mme. Grés in Paris said his intent is to create a collection each season to be
shown privately at his luxurious couture house. And with attendees such as Bloomingdale who was formerly a front
row regular at the couture shows in Paris, Klein’s vision is not far from reality.
Klein brought his design house to Los Angeles over five years ago to be closer to the Hollywood scene. “Everyone
watches what is happening in Hollywood,” said Klein. “I really think that it is such a powerful city and we don’t give it
the credit that it deserves. This is a house of couture. It’s Paris in Hollywood.”
