Hallo my name is Louise Pedersen and welcome to my presentation of Nikola Tesla. A remarkable innovator but was he in the shadow of Thomas Edison?
This presentation does not go into details of what they have achieved and how their inventions work. But the purpose of this presentation is to give you a short overview of Tesla and Edison with the main focus on Nikola Tesla. Thereafter I will highlight the difference between them. What happened to Tesla, what can we learn from it? After my presentation I have given some links for those who are interested to know more details about them.
Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Austria/ Hungary now known as the republic of Croatia. He was of Serbian Origin because of his father. He died in 1943 in a hotel room in New York. Tesla finished secondary school and went to Gratz, to study Mathematics and Physics. He thereafter went to the Charles University in Prague, where he studied Philpsphy. Some years after he went to America to follow his dream to harvest the power of Niagra Falls. To highligt a few of Teslas remarkable inventions I will start to highlight the invention of Alternating Current, which had a great role in his relationship to Edison. He also invented the x-ray and wireless energy transmission. With wireless energy he invented the Wardencliff tower, with the purpose to create free energy world wide. After that he started to discover more extreme projects as the death ray. It was the weapon which should end all wars as it could shoot down all airplanes with a extreme amount of concentrated energy. If the death ray came in a wrong hands is could be a catostrophy. It is my empression that Tesla was an excentric individualist, who was such a genius that only a few understood him.He called himself a discoverer instead of a inventor.
Thomas Edison is 9 years older than Tesla born in 1847 in America. He died in 1931 in New Jersey. Edison did not have any education. He was kicked out of primary school as was thereafter homeschooled of his mother. Therefore he started working from the age of 12 selling newpapers on the train and thereafter even producing newpapers. A few of Edisons main inventions is the modern research laboratory, when he employed some of the best educated people to help him with his ideas and inventions. Edison did not invent the light bulb, but he created the first long lasting light bulb and is therefor often credited for inventing the light bulb. He also invented the use of direct current and wanted to use it to light all houses. Edison was a hardcore businessman who wanted to make money. He did not like be defeated and was therefore a competitor who would take drastic steps to make sure his inventitions was rated as the best. He was an inventor who was help from co-workers to make his inventions to come through.
Tesla devoted his life to his inventions, working alone with a few helpers around. Where as Edison was more a business man who employed skilled workers to help him and focused on projects with profit. People could relate to Edison and his inventions whether many of Tesla invention wass ahead of time as he talked about free energy, world wide broadcasting of sounds and pictures. When Tesla first came to America he started working for Edison. As Tesla kept on focusing on alternating current, which was many levels better than Edisons direct current to transfer energy there cooperation ended and Edison used his business and marketing skills to do anything to ruin alternating current as that would affect a lot of Edisons business’. All in all Edison was more an ordinary businessman who knew how to generate profit and captures people attention where as Tesla devoted his life to science and humanity without focusing on profit.
Tesla was too excentric and to ahead of time that people understood his inventions and the purpose of it. They were not aware of the big change Tesla discovered by the possibillity to generate free energy and use of the death ray. The wardencliff tower project was destroyed as free energy could not generate any money for the investors. Another aspect was perhaps that Tesla was aware of the quencequence to what free energy could create if it was used by the wrong people. The same as the Death Ray which could generate higher concentrated power than the nuclear bombs and those who had the death ray was able to destroy cities. Tesla was more devoted to his projects instead of profit and where therefore not interesting for investors and the news. Many theories started by Tesla is still unknown but one thing is known Tesla was a great inventor.
Some of the lessoned learned by studying Tesla and Edison is that you should think critical towards information given. Some statements are maybe only beneficial for one party, make sure you questioning information. The power of profit –how important profit is to create success. Be aware of new possibillities even though is seem impossible. Tesla made discoveries which are still unsolved today. Follow you strengths and ideas but be openminded towards other.
