IHC’s model allows students to leverage
technology and the physical layout of its facilities
-- including Smart Projectors, Ideapaint, Node
Chairs and Collaboration Rooms, to constantly
learn and collaborate.
Personal Devices
WiFi Network in Library, Student Lounge,
Collaboration Rooms supporting connectivity
from Apple MacBooks, Google Tablets and
Samsung Smartphones. In addition to college-
provided devices, students and faculty and bring
their own devices and connect.

The Global Classroom
What is the Global Classroom?
•Technology to link remote sites
via high definition video
•Up to 25% of our classes can be
delivered through MSJC on-line
and some of those classes have
hybrid components and/or video
conferencing in the Global
Classroom.
•The 75% of the curriculum taught
by IHC is at this time all face-to-
face and make use of the Global
Classroom to engage in "real, live
and synchronous" interactions
with subject matter experts from
outside the classroom.

AHC INTRODUCTION The Global Classroom What is the Global Classroom? •Technology to link remote sites via high definition video •Up to 25% of our classes can be delivered through MSJC on-line and some of those classes have hybrid components and/or video conferencing in the Global Classroom. •The 75% of the curriculum taught by IHC is at this time all face-to- face and make use of the Global Classroom to engage in "real, live and synchronous" interactions with subject matter experts from outside the classroom.

AHC ACADEMICMODEL • Students are excited about the technology. • They “grabbed” the Nexus 7 and Macbooks with enthusiasm and are exploring them and teaching each other (and faculty) imagined and unimagined ways to use them for courses. • They are brainstorming how to continue using the tools and software to increase knowledge and connections. • They are becoming highly competent and excited about Google docs and the sharing process. Editor's Notes

  1. IHC Faculty members are US Citizens holders of Doctorate Degree in Philosophy from US Universities. Dr. Katherine Green , Dr. Mark Leon , Dr. Hamid Elhag and Dr. Hans Mattingly arrived to Dubai the first week of January 2013. In startup mode, our faculty are all carrying administrative responsibilities.
  2. IHC Admin members are a combination of US, Algerian, Pakistani, Indian, Saudi and Kenyan nationals. Senior team members are Ms. Suzanne Ryne , Mr. Oussama Benrekia , Mr. Gagan Lilwani and Mr. Arsalan Yunus .
  3. Sustainability in education is not simply about reducing paper use or turning water faucets off but rather about integrating key issues into teaching and learning. IHC will be empowering students to think critically, change behaviors and take action in areas of sustainability by promoting competencies in collaborative decision making and communication, critical thinking skills, and project-based learning. IHC students will be challenged through ideas, projects, international collaborations, innovative teaching methods, and technology that they CAN change the world whether it be climate changes disaster risk reduction, poverty reduction, sustainable consumption, or biodiversity.
  4. IHC students are equipped with laptops, tablets, and software that allow them to connect, share, collaborate, and learn from anywhere they are located. All course textbooks are ebooks and provided to students on their tablet. All course material (syllabi/handouts etc.) is maintained within the BlackBoard site attached to each course. This allows students to access information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Students can work together on a project or with the faculty member and upload and edit material on Google software either synchronously or asynchronously. They may be in the same classroom on campus, in their homes, or even from a coffee shop at the mall! And this is not limited to IHC students but will include students from MSJC and future articulation colleges. International study groups will be the norm for IHC.
  5. Through the use of short pre-recorded video “mini-lectures,” accessed through Blackboard and watched before class, IHC enables greater collaboration between students and faculty by turning over more in-class time for group work and discussion. Dr. Leon and Dr. Mattingly co-producing videos for their courses Benefits of Flipping include: Gives faculty more time to spend 1:1 helping students Builds stronger student/faculty relationships Creates time for valid, real-world and project-based learning Produces the ability for students to “rewind” lessons and master topics Allows for multiple learning styles to be accommodated and promotes differentiated instruction Creates a collaborative learning environment in the classroom Faculty become the “guide on the side” rather than the “sage on the stage.” Many teachers and faculty have used videos similar to that of the Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/ Flipping the Class is an innovative method being adopted around the world: http://www.knewton.com/flipped-classroom/ Extending the Classroom: The world is becoming increasingly “flat” and students in the 21st Century can not be content with learning information and ideas purely from one country or even one continent. It is imperative that students understand how to learn and communicate with people from multiple cultures and to be able to exhibit tolerance and acceptance of differences. By having hybrid courses and lectures involving faculty and students in different countries connect via the Polycom system, we set the stage for IHC students to be farther ahead than many traditional college students in the US or indeed globally. Our students will travel to the US already comfortable working with international peers and faculty.
