People can express their beliefs based on the new wave of sharing communities. In effect, the use of these sites makes a statement that these people to source what they need in a crowd via a personal connection, as opposed to dealing with a large corporation.
Indiegogo: Connecting with entrepreneurs (instead of investors)
Seekers are expressing that they are passionate about a particular project for which they would like support (I want to make this groundbreaking film, but I don't have enough money)
Backers are making a statement based on the projects they support (I am interested in supporting independent film,so I donate to these kinds of projects)
Etsy: Connecting with artisans (instead of branded stores)
Sellers are trying to use their talents/skills to generate income
Buyers want to buy something unique and support independent artisans
Airbnb: Connecting with travellers (instead of hotels)
Hosts would like to support the travel community by offering less expensive accommodation
Guests want to have a unique experience and/or live like a local
