More than credit scores, we have delivered analytics and other technologies for 50 years, in over 80 countries to over 5000 customers.
FICO is transforming the way we doing business, from an on-prem software solution to a cloud based SaaS model. As part of this transformation, we focused internally on changing our culture to become more innovative, collaborative and community orientated.
As part of our innovation strategy, we implemented Jive in the latter part of 2013. One of use cases for the Jive platform focused on the ideation module to provide a platform where our employees could share their innovation ideas.
Our Global Professional Services organization fully embraced Jive as a way to share their knowledge and leverage new ideas across the organization to save time, increase efficiency and deliver new capabilities to our clients. As part of their annual “Innovation Challenge”, they used the community to manage the submittal of ideas and innovation that delivers client value, is repeatable and can create a market opportunity for FICO.
Based on previous challenges, the team was anticipating 20-30 entries. However, due to the collaborative environment fostered by Jive, as the submissions started rolling in and were seen by others the competition mounted. The newer entries got better and better and went from thumbnail ideas to fully developed and documented plans. In the end, more than 220 innovations were submitted and the quality of those entries far surpassed expectations and led to more ideas being able to be packaged, marketed and sold more quickly.
As great as this sounds, during the challenge we discovered a few thing. Although it is easy to submit ideas via Jive, we needed a more powerful ideation tool. We need a way to view the progress of all ideas, manage which ones were viable and other idea management activities. With the current system, the idea submitters have no way to see the status of their idea, nor is there a way to easily manage the lifecycle of each idea.
With Hype, we can pull ideas submitted on the Jive platform into the Hype backend. These ideas are then vetted and assigned to a product manager. We have the ability to view ideas by stage, industry, business problem, most popular and more. The idea submitters can view their ideas to see where they are at in the process. The community can vote on ideas that they think will be successful and include comments and suggestions on the idea.

We are currently running a beta to test out how the new system works with a small sub-sect of our employees. Right now, we are working out the kinks and finalizing the workflow before we launch it to the entire organization.
We also plan on rolling out this to our external community, the FICO Analytic Cloud (FAC). The FAC is a new route to market for FICO, and the FAC Marketplace in particular is an on-line store where “Apps” that are developed by FICO, Partners or even Clients, can be sold. We want to offer the ideation model to our external Partner/Client contributors, to curate the Marketplace and populate the store with high value components and solutions that bring incremental revenue to FICO.
One thing we are really excited about is the full integration come in 2015. This integration is similar to the Producteev integration and provides a seamless UI for users to submit and manager their ideas.
