7 ways to successfully
negotiate salary

1. BE PREPAREDThen we have good news

Negotiating is an art
which you can learn!
You can start with the
following 7 tips.
Is there a salary
negotiation coming
up?
1. BE PREPARED1. BE PREPARED
► Before starting a salary
negotiation during a job
interview write down what you
are currently earning and then
define your salary expectations
for your next job.
► Also, be aware of the job
market salary level for a similar
position to the one you are
applying for.
► Additionally, manage your
expectations. Your bottom line
is the lowest salary you will
accept for your next job.
2. SHOW THEM WHY YOU
ARE WORTH IT
► List all your technical and soft
skills, experiences, success
stories as well as failures in
order to convince your future
employer that you are worth
what you are asking for.
► During the negotiation try to find
a balance between expressing
the value you will bring to the
company and what you will be
paid for.
► Show them what they can get
out of it, knowing what’s in it for
you!
3. SPEAK IN YOUR OWN
TERMS
► There are many different ways
of talking about salary: annual,
monthly, gross, net, pre-tax,
global package, etc.
► When negotiating your salary,
make sure you speak to the
right person and clearly define
your expectations.
► For example, if you calculated
that you need a basis of 3,450
EUR gross per month pre-tax
salary then this is exactly how
you should explain it.
4. LET THEM SPEAK FIRST
► When negotiating with a future
employer, make sure that the
first salary suggestion comes
from his/her side.
► The generosity of companies
can be surprising. It could even
overcome your expectations.
► However, it is more likely that it
will set the basis for further
negotiation.
5. BE AMBITIOUS AND
CONFIDENT
► When you start negotiating your
salary, you should be in the right
mindset. This includes being
ambitious and confident.
► Start with your ideal expectation
and show how good you would
be for the role.
► Additionally, be honest and
flexible: Express what you need
and why. However, show
flexibility if appropriate.
6. BE POSITIVE AND
PROACTIVE
► Remember: You are close to
securing a new job. Isn’t this
amazing?!
► If you need to discuss details
about your salary then propose
solutions, show your motivation
and your interest in the job.
7. END ON A POSITIVE NOTE
► Like with any other negotiation
the objective is to find a positive
closure to the discussion.
► Be prepared to hear low offers
and stay clear about your salary
expectations throughout the
negotiation.
► And finally, good luck with all of
this!

BE PREPARED ► Before starting a salary negotiation during a job interview write down what you are currently earning and then define your salary expectations for your next job. ► Also, be aware of the job market salary level for a similar position to the one you are applying for. ► Additionally, manage your expectations. Your bottom line is the lowest salary you will accept for your next job.

SHOW THEM WHY YOU ARE WORTH IT ► List all your technical and soft skills, experiences, success stories as well as failures in order to convince your future employer that you are worth what you are asking for. ► During the negotiation try to find a balance between expressing the value you will bring to the company and what you will be paid for. ► Show them what they can get out of it, knowing what’s in it for you!
