Some Things to Carry
Slippers
Bring slippers, even though you can
buy them locally, as the beaches in
the Philippines are best enjoyed
walking
Mosquito Repellants
Since Philippines is a tropical
country, mosquitoes are found here.
It is a good idea to carry your own
mosquito repellant like Odomos
Clothes
Pack in light cotton clothes and lots
of shorts as you will be walking on
the beach and enjoying the pristine
sands of Philippines
Its best if you can have all your things
fit in a backpack. Don't bring your
luggage made of leather as it gets
powdery white due to the sea salt
Most of the things that you need will
be available locally except medicines,
carry your own
Travel Light
Do’s and Dont’s
Ensure the safety of your valuables (money,
jewelry, laptop, etc.), avail a safety deposit
box when leaving your hotel
Do not leave your valuables unattended on
the beach while swimming
Leave important documents (passport, plane
tickets, etc.) at the hotel’s safety deposit box
when going island hopping or other water
activities
To ensure the safety of your cellphones and
other gadgets, put them in a water proof bag
Some Important Do’s
Filipinos are generally courteous and
respectful people, and nearly all of them can
speak English
They are also, by nature, very friendly people
Sir and Ma’am or Madam are used by the
Filipinos to address each other and also
visitors and tourists

locals

‣ Tito for Uncle or just about any elder you
bump into
‣ Kuya for brother
‣ Ate for sister

Hospitality is a trait commonly shared by every Filipino
They smile a lot too
A simple Thank You for any favor done is expected
Strangers or no strangers, the people love to wave at people
anytime. Waving back is acknowledging their presence
Some Important Dont’s
It is always recommended that tourists don’t flash
their valuables
Also, beware of pickpocketing. It’s a problem in
most major cities, so be careful and do not put
your wallet in the rear pocket
Do not leave valuables openly in hotels too. Keep
them in a safe, at the hotel
Even though almost everyone can speak English,
you may encounter some people who will only
speak in the local language. Don’t be irritated
while talking to them

Wherever possible, bring cash with you.
ATMs usually dispense in 500 PHP bills:
they are frequently offline or out of funds,
so do not rely on them exclusively

accepted in hotels, high end
resorts, malls and most
