“Development that meet the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs.”

4. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
GOALS
They are a set of 17 aspiration Goals with 169
targets and 304 proposed indicators that are
supported by three pillars of sustainability:
Economic development.
Environmental protection.
Social equity.
3:10 PM
5. Transition From MDGs to SDGs
3:10 PM
From MDGs
(2000-2015) – 8 Goals,
21 Targets, 60 indicators
To SDGs (2016-2030) – 17 Goals,
169 Targets, 304 indicators
6. Sustainable Development Goals
• The MDGs, adopted in 2000, had enormous
progress showing the value of a unifying
agenda underpinned by goals and targets.
• Despite this success, the indignity of poverty
has not been ended for all.
3:10 PM
7. Sustainable Development Goals
• The Sustainable Development Goals,
The Global Goals, have been built on
the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),
• They go much further than the MDGs,
addressing the root causes of poverty and the
universal need for development that works for
all people.
3:10 PM
10. End Poverty in all its forms
Everywhere
3:10 PM
In 2015, 10.2 per cent of the world’s workers were
living with their families on less than $1.90 per
person per day, down from 28 per cent in 2000.
11. End hunger, achieve food security and
improved nutrition and promote
sustainable agriculture
3:10 PM
SDG aim to end all forms of hunger and malnutrition by
2030, by sustainable agricultural practices: improving the
livelihoods and capacities of small scale farmers,
allowing equal access to land, technology and markets.
12. Ensure healthy lives and promote
well-being for all at all ages
3:10 PM
Goal addresses all major health priorities, including
reproductive, maternal and child health;
communicable, non-communicable and environmental
diseases; universal health coverage; and access for all
to safe, effective, quality and affordable medicines and
vaccines.
13. Ensure inclusive and quality
education for all and promote
lifelong learning
3:10 PM
This goal ensures that all girls and boys complete free
primary and secondary schooling by 2030.
14. Achieve gender equality and
empower all women and girls
3:10 PM
Ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive
health, and affording women equal rights to economic
resources such as land and property, are vital targets to
realize this goal
15. Ensure access to water and
sanitation for all
3:10 PM
By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable
sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation,
paying special attention to the needs of women and girls
16. Ensure access to affordable,
reliable, sustainable and modern
energy for all3:10 PM
17. Promote inclusive and sustainable
economic growth, employment and
decent work for all3:10 PM
The SDG goal is to achieve full and productive
employment, and decent work, for all women and men
by 2030.
27. Health Related
Sustainable Development Goals

These 6 goals address the various key issues of Public Health –
Poverty, Hunger, Food security, Health, Education, Gender equality, Women
empowerment and Sanitation
29. SDG 3 Health Targets
• The health goal (SDG 3) comprises 13 targets.
• Each target has one or two proposed indicators,
with the exception of SDG Target 3.3 and Target
3.9 which has 5 and 3 indicators respectively
• With a total of 26 indicators, this health goal (SDG 3)
has the largest number of proposed indicators of
all the 17 SDGs.
