Dear NOHO First Family:
It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve you in this season. Yours is
truly a church that looks like heaven in all of its colorful mosaic glory. Your
diversity, inclusiveness, compassion, and hospitality are remarkable and
appreciated by me, my family in this season of grief, and the NOHO
community.
I'd like to thank your excellent staff and committed board members for the
tireless work that they do everyday. These leaders give NOHO First the kind
of foundation that is needed to build an even more impactful expression of
Jesus in future. From your post service courtyard gatherings to your respect
and showcasing of all ethnic and lifestyle expressions, you are actually living
your wonderful statement of inclusion. You have shown me how to celebrate
all cultures in worship and fellowship and, as a pastor with a multi-ethnic call,
I am eternally grateful for what I have learned here.
Finally, on behalf of my personal tribe, I'd like to thank all of you for
welcoming me with grace and the message of "significance" with enthusiasm.
As we have said every Sunday we've been together: I am, you are, and we are
significant and created to do significant things...because God says so! My
prayer is that my significance mantra truly becomes yours as you navigate the
season of growth I predict is ahead for NOHO First.
Thank you all in advance for your prayers as we discern what is next for me
and my family. This is an exciting time of expansion and we are trusting God
to direct us to our next significant thing.
In parting, I want you all to remember this above all else (in the words of Dr.
Rudy Rasmus), "I love you and there is nothing you can do about it!"
Yours in Significance,
Pastor Christian Washington

5. Yay May! AAPI Heritage Month filled our hearts with love and our bellies with delicious Asian foods
once again and gave us a wonderful opportunity to get to know the Asian members of our congregation.
We enjoyed special presentations during worship about Korean culture, Asians in Film, how Rice is Life,
Filipino Fashions, and Tribal song and dance from Taiwan! Every Sunday we were blessed with a Taste
of Asia Pop-Up Pavilion in the Courtyard! Our Asian community shared their culture and food for 4
Sundays, making it a delight to participate in the life of the church during the month of May.
There truly was something marvelous about getting to know people on a deeper level via sharing stories
and food. Many thanks to those who participated and shared such gracious hospitality all month long.

The McDonald Family formed the scholarship fund in memory of Rev. Dr. Joey McDonald, who passed away
