Preparedness / Logistical Issues It is generally understood that each type of disaster requires a
specific type of response. In the last twenty years floods and storms caused approximately fifty five
percent of all worldwide natural disasters (Leeuw, Vis & Jonkman, 2012). Due to the fact, that
floods are typically preceded by conditions such as heavy rains or high waters, generally it is easier
to predict the possibility of flooding when compared to other natural disasters. Thus, due to the
nature of floods preventive activities may be implemented that may prevent the flood form
occurring. Some common practices such as filling sandbags or the use of dams are prime examples
of preparatory activities. Unfortunately as demonstrated with hurricane Katrina, disaster
preparedness is quite challenging. Logistics aspects of emergency preparedness are of utmost
importance and consist of four phases: planning and preparation; monitoring extreme conditions;

forefront. This is in response to a number of different events that highlighted the need for effective
emergency management. As disasters ranging from the 911 terrorist attacks to Hurricane Katrina,

the changing nature of the different threats requires that the emergency management system undergo

Transaction processing systems (TPS) provide data collection, storage, processing and outputting
functionalities for the core operations of a business. These functions are necessary for operational
managers. In that way the data generated by the TPS answers general business questions and to track
the flow of transactions throughout the business. TPS can keep track of such systems as payroll,
inventory, sales, shipping and other vital business systems. Business intelligence systems have quite
a few systems under their umbrella, they can sometimes be very involved as they identify, extract
and analyze data for various operational needs, principally for decision–making purposes. These
types of information systems may predict future sales patterns, or forecast sales. For example,
financial institutions use business intelligence systems to develop credit risk models that analyze the
number and extent of lending or credit given to various customers. These systems may use various
techniques and formulas to determine the probability of loan defaults.

So if we had any corrections regarding the marks we could ask for updation concurrently.So I
started building my first project,an android app for internal marks. This project gave broad
understanding on the different methodologies used and how to deliver a project successfully.It also
helped me understand the value of time management, the value of the software I was developing and
showcasing the same to other team mates and influencing them to do project which solves different
problems and remove obstacles of our daily activities. This also motivated me to study hard with a
purpose and eventually secure 9th rank in Cochin University for information Systems.
I was selected by IBM as part of college recruiting and was offered a position as data specialist.
Although I have worked on few projects in college the one year in IBM was the turning point in my
decision to pursue masters. Two major factor influenced me in this.
Soon after I joined IBM, one of my friend who was studying for architecture had a project to submit
on landscape architecture in his college. Although I didn 't have much idea about architecture he
asked me to select one design out of three that he had planned for the project. I liked one of those
but I was confused may be I am the only one who likes that particular design. So I created a
whatsapp group to discuss about the designs and posted these three architecture designs in the group

Cultural diversity is the power which motivates the development of the thing that makes us
different. Cultural diversity is the economic growth, which means leading a more fulfilling
emotional, moral and spiritual life. It captures the culture principles, which provide a sturdy basis
for the promotion of cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is an asset that is necessary for poverty

Companies are experiencing rapid growth of cultural diversity and they're realizing that many
organizational successes come from the diversity of the company. While cultural diversity has it
benefits, barriers to effective communication can sometime be hard because of our background. We
can sometime experience physical barriers, physical barrier exist when workers are located in a
different building or site. We can sometime experience system design which surfaces when a
problem with structure occurs. System design is a structure that is not clear and makes us confuse
and we don't know who to communicate with. For example at work I supervise several Clerk but it
is unclear to them if I am the supervisor because we share the job or if their team chief is there
supervisor because their assign to that team. Attitudinal barriers occur when there is a problem with
staff. Poor management, no consultation with employee and personality conflict can occur as a
result of attitudinal barriers.
In conclusion, cultural diversity does affected communication because of the way we interact with
each other. Misunderstanding plays a big part in effective communication. We have to be able to
send and receive messages clearly through effective communication. People have to be able to
receive and translate message to communicate effectively, when we are dealing with cultural
diversity. There are many different reasons for barriers to effective communication as
