By now, you’ve all seen our new spirit marks. Let me tell you a little bit about how we got there.
You’re all familiar with our old mark, which was introduced in 1994.This mark served us well – but it was outdated and hard to use. It was difficult to reproduce (as you may know if you ever watched our games on TV) – and it was particularly hard to work with at a small size (embroidered on a shirt, for example).
So we put together a group of people from on and off campus to help us develop new marks that distinguish Davidson.We knew we needed something that would reflect the college’s commitment to excellence.We also knew that we needed something that would look different from all the other Wildcats out there.
So here’s what we came up with!It should look familiar to you.Our process involved a lot of testing – and one of the things that we learned was that people liked our old cat.So we focused on developing a mark that retained the best of the old cat, while introducing elements that made it easier to work with.We also introduced a new font – one that you’ll see only on Davidson products.
Now we’ve got our own D – and our very own paw print.
You’ll see these new marks on team uniforms…
Sports schedules…
…and of course in the College Store and in ‘Cats on Main!
<no remarks>
So how much did Davidson pay for all of this? A million dollars? $100,000? $50,000? Not even close. I’m happy to give the figure to anyone who wants to know – for now, let me just say that this project has already paid for itself.
We now have a unique set of marks that distinguish us from other schools.We have new shirts, hats, and other items that you can buy in the College Store – and I hope you will!
And we have a look that reflects the excellence of this institution.
