Patsy Davis graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1976 at a time when the term
“Representational Art” was considered an oxymoron by many. In spite of her passion for sculpting
animals, she focused primarily on studying form in a more abstract manner, receiving a semester
of advanced standing for her body of interpretive work.
After graduating college Patsy spent the next 25 years working as a commercial sculptor. During
that time she developed hundreds of giftware and toy lines including: My Little Pony for Hasbro
Toys as well as product lines for many major companies including Warner Bros. and Disney. In the
1980s Patsy led her company into the INC. 500 magazine as one of the fastest growing privately
held companies in the country.
Today she brings her years of experience and artistic focus back to Fine Art and the animals she
loves. Though canines, particularly bird dogs, remain a specialty, the ranch animals and wildlife
surrounding her provides inspiration. Sculpting almost 100% from life, her work in bronze reflects
many years of discipline and attention to detail.
Always a great lover of dogs, Patsy has raised many breeds herself and spends countess hours
studying both their anatomy and behavior. She shares her home in the little mountain town
of Mancos CO with three horses, a mule, Webster, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier and
Emmy Lou, her German Wirehair Pointer

“PAWS AND REFLECT: ART OF CANINES is a traveling museum exhibition intended
to recognize and promote excellence in art, and heighten public attention and awareness
about the family Canidae. PAWS AND REFLECT: ART OF CANINES consists of flatworks in
acrylic, gouache, mixed media, oil, pencil, scratchboard, and watercolor, and sculptures in
bronze by artists who have produced a thematically-related body of work of consistent
quality over time. Artists and artworks were chosen for their diverse subject matter and
for their creative combinations of elements and principles of composition and design,
extraordinary technique and resulting style. Artworks by thirty artists are included in the
exhibition. Most artists are represented by two or three works to demonstrate her/his
versatility and range of artistic treatment. David J. Wagner, Ph.D., Curator/Tour Director
The Bark Magazine, January/February 2009, lists “Paws & Reflect: Art of Canines” among
the top ten exhibitions not to be missed in 2009.”

. Artist Statement
For me representational sculpture must go beyond simply the rendering of the
subject. The art is found in the handling of the form certainly, but it is the more
intangible representation of the animal’s “being” in the moment that I try to
communicate in my sculpture.
I am inspired by the incredible design in all natural form as it moves and
changes. Using this I try to capture the essence of the animal portrayed both
physically and emotionally in a particular moment, rather than simply copy the
tangible form. The challenge is always, to put life in the metal!
Though the art world is frequently driven by what is “vogue” in any given
period, I believe the elements of ‘fine’ art are timeless ....and it is
everywhere, all ways. I am truly blessed to be able to make Art, not just
my livelihood, but my life.
