Vipassana
means to
SEE THINGS AS THEY REALLY
ARE,
not what it
APPEARS TO BE
 “The Horizon”, that’s the place where the sky
touches the earth.
 Look at the sun and you see that the sun rises
and sets
 Take a glass of water and put a pencil in it, the
pencil appears to be crooked.
 If you stand on Pluto and look at the sun, the
sun looks like a night bulb.
 When you stand on earth and look at the sun, it
looks like a yellow football .
 When you stand in front of the sun your
observation is the ultimate truth.
 When we meditate we cover this distance from
apparent truth to ultimate truth
 We need to understand the difference between
the apparent truth and the ultimate truth.
 How our decisions go wrong because we are
taking decisions on the basis of apparent truth?
 Five blind people went to see an elephant,
◦ one touches the trunk and said oh ! The elephant is
like a hose pipe.
◦ one touches the leg of the elephant and says oh! The
elephant is like a tree.
◦ one person touches the tail of the elephant and said
oh! The elephant is like a paint brush.
◦ one person touches the ears of the elephant and said
oh! The elephant is like a fan .
◦ one person touches the body of the elephant and says
that oh! The elephant is like a wall.
 The expert comments of the five blind people,
their analysis, opinions, views, and suggestions
are wrong, it’s only the apparent truth.
 Our five senses, eyes, ears, nose, tongue and
touch, all these are blind senses.
 How our suffering keeps on increasing and how it
is important to live in the world of reality and not
the apparent truth.
 How our Evaluation, Suggestions, Views, Expert
comments, Opinion and Decisions are depending
on the input of the five senses, only apparent
truth.
 We work at 5 to 10 % of the mental capacity the
rest is filled with negativity.
 When the anti scan virus works in the computer
the capacity to process increases, Our capacity to
work increases.
 What is the difference between you and your dead
body? Mind!!
 When the Mind is there this body is called a life
body.
 When the Mind is not there it is called a dead
body.
 It is the sum total of all the food that I have eaten.
 The mental body is the sum total of all the mental
actions that we have done, including the mental
actions like, when we are watching a movie we
are generating passion at the mental level.
 In today's world we have the British education
system which does not emphasize on the mind .
 In olden days in India we had the Gurukul system
of education where the guru teaches you how to
master the mind .
 Then you learn some skill’s by which you can
make money and lead a happy and contented live.
 We are running the anti virus scan, when all
the programmes are not working, it’s the
anti virus scan program that works.
 If we keep pressing the delete button on the
computer one by one the programmes gets
deleted for example: anger comes to the
surface and anger gets deleted and there
comes a time when all the programmes of
negativity gets deleted.
 The reason we go to a meditation centre is to train
our mind and master the 5 senses and learn to
lead a happy life.
 A balanced life.
 A life of peace and harmony .
 In olden days a temple was a place to learn and
master the scriptures; The Gita, The Ramayana,
The Mahabharata, Master the scriptures and apply
them in your life.
 Today a temple has become a place for begging,
people have forgotten the  main purpose in every
place of worship.
 Nobody wants to master the scriptures and lead a
good life and apply the scriptures in their life.
 Everybody thinks that some God or guru is going to
solve all problems.
 When you sow a seed of mango you get a fruit of
mango and the multiplication effect i.e. “sweet
fruits”
 When you sow a seed of Neem you get a fruit of
neem and the multiplication effect i.e. “Bitter fruits”
 We get similar fruits with the multiplying effect
and we can see a continuous process of
multiplication.
 Suppose, if I had eaten fatty food then I may have a fat
body, same way with the mental body. Seeds of anger
reaps fruits of anger, seeds of hatred reaps fruits of
hatred. It is a continuous process of multiplication.
 Just like a rubber ball, when it is hit hard on the ground
the ball bounces ten or fifteen times before the charge of
the ball is over when it comes to a stop, that is the
multiplying effect on the ball .
 You sow a seed of mango and you get many fruits of
mango thus the multiplication process goes on.
 Applying, The Gita, The Ramayana, The
Mahabharata, The Bible, The Koran in your life ,
the direct experience of the truth within, direct
application of the truth in your life.
 Vipassana is the process of Mental purification of
the Mind through the process of self observation.
 The scriptures says, the kingdom of heaven is
within, that is true, but have you experienced it?
 The scriptures says ,Don't judge people, but we
keep judging people every day.
 The scriptures says Love Thy neighbour but all we
do is hate our neighbours.
 If you have eaten bad food then you have to pay
a heavy price; stomach pain, constipation, loose
motion, or in extreme cases even death. You sow
seeds of bad food, and the fruit reaps bad result’s.
 There is no forgiveness in the laws of nature. In
the same way if you sow seeds of anger, you get
fruits of anger, you sow seeds of hatred you get
fruits of hatred.
 We always have the habit of saying, this is going
wrong in my life, and that is going wrong in my life,
he was wrong, she was wrong.
 We always have the habit of thinking that lots of
wrongs are happening in our live’s.
 But the truth is that nothing wrong happens in
anybody's life.
 By sowing a seed of mango you do not get fruits
of chikoo, cauliflower or tomato, it never happens
in the real world .
 In the same manner in the inside world nothing
goes wrong.
 The moment you sow seeds of anger you reap the
fruits of anger the moment you sow seeds of
hatred you reap the fruits of hatred .
 If you hurry now, then, later you have to worry.
 In today's world people are making money in the
name of career in a very unbalanced manner.
 They pay a heavy price for bad health in future.
 They make extra money to pay their extra medical
Bills in the later years of their lives.
 They are making money only to pay medical bills.
They get a heart-attack then another one, and finally
the doctor tells them to go to America for better
treatment .
 They had sown the seeds of suffering which in turn
reaped fruits of suffering.
 What is the cause of suffering? rich man poor man,
beautiful lady, handsome man, everybody in this world is
suffering but why, what is the cause?
 Buddha realised that the mind has two deep rooted
habit patterns that is, Craving and Aversion, and this
happens because we are ignorant about the laws of
nature.
 Craving is, I want, I like, I want more and Aversion is, I
don’t want, I don't like, or I hate this.
 All the five senses have Craving or Aversion.
 Just like a see-saw, you press craving and
aversion goes up and when you press aversion
and craving goes up.
 Just like a boat when you press one side
Craving and the-boat sinks and you press the
other side aversion and again the boat sinks.
 You have to learn the art of balancing the mind.
 Both Craving & Aversion has to balance the
mind.
 India and Pakistan cricket match: what happens in
every ball there is a craving and aversion,
because I think that I am an Indian, again illusion.
 How can you say you are an Indian? you can't pay
your tax, help your neighbors, neither help
someone in an accident on the road.
 You are watching a movie, a romantic scene begins,
immediately passion starts building, a biochemical
reaction has started in the body, the person on the
screen is not your wife, husband, girlfriend, Boyfriend
then why are you reacting? Oh, what is passion? Just
craving, just an illusion,
 There is nothing attractive in a human body, the truth
of a body is that, it is a stinking body but still I find
Aishwarya Rai attractive when she is integrated.
 But when she is disintegrated then she is not attractive
it becomes repulsive.”Aversion”
 Lets us study the truth, like a scientist lets us divide
the body into 4 buckets, one bucket of blood, one
bucket of beautiful flesh, and one bucket of eyes,
ears, bones, intestine, shit, piss etc, that is what a
body consists of .Now there is no attraction. Isn’t it?
 You are watching an action movie, lots of Pakistani’s
are beating up Indians, immediately patriotism starts
building in our mind, why? I do not not pay taxes nor
help anybody in this world, neither help a child crying
on the road, nor even help my neighbors .
 Buddha discovered that the mind has four parts
 Cognition
 Recognition
 Sensation i.e. (observation of sensations on the
body)
 Sankhara (Reaction)
 Any input in your five senses
 Suppose I have two jute ropes say one rope is
craving the other is aversion and we twist it, for
some hours and after some time if we leave it,
What will happen?
 It will rewind back in the opposite direction.
 It is a natural process, all we have to do is learn
the art of observing the reality inside objectively.
 There is no place in this world where any God or
guru has the guts to run any centre without
charging any fees, no hinting for donation, no
forcing. Just like in the olden days, “The Gurukul
system”.
 For 800 people, their food, accommodation and this
wonderful technique, without any charges for 10
days.
 We have 160 centres in the world all the centres run
on the same system, those people who have done
this course can donate after having done a ten day
course
 They donate out of gratitude for the centre, the
teacher or the technique.
 Just like you look after your parents out of
gratitude, because they looked after you, fulfilled
all your wishes desires, whims and fancies,
sacrificed for you, so out of gratitude for all the
good they have done we look after them for rest of
their life.
 Those people who have benefited from this
course helps us to run the centre.

 The five precepts.
 Not to kill.
 Not to tell lies.(Refrain from bad speech)
 Not to cheat or steal.
 Not to take intoxicants
 No sexual misconduct.
 No outside contact (outside world) , no mobile
,walkie talkies, pager, laptop, computers, books,
Walkman or news paper.
This is a very serious and intensive course.
 Just like a physical training in a Gym,
everybody’s life is not going to change, it depends
on your efforts, determination and seriousness to
change yourself.
 Say a 1000 children go to school ,How many will
come first in class? just one or two, How many will
have some interest in studies? just a handful.
 We have 30,000 - 70,000 people who have done
this course in the last 42 years in Mumbai.
 The Eight Wonder of the world where 10,000
people can meditate, the structure made of pure
rock no cement like the pyramids in Egypt is in
Essel world, Mumbai which will last 2500 years.

Vipassana Meditation ppt

  • 1.
  • 2. Vipassana means to SEE THINGS AS THEY REALLY ARE, not what it APPEARS TO BE
  • 3.  “The Horizon”, that’s the place where the sky touches the earth.  Look at the sun and you see that the sun rises and sets  Take a glass of water and put a pencil in it, the pencil appears to be crooked.
  • 4.  If you stand on Pluto and look at the sun, the sun looks like a night bulb.  When you stand on earth and look at the sun, it looks like a yellow football .  When you stand in front of the sun your observation is the ultimate truth.  When we meditate we cover this distance from apparent truth to ultimate truth
  • 5.  We need to understand the difference between the apparent truth and the ultimate truth.  How our decisions go wrong because we are taking decisions on the basis of apparent truth?
  • 6.  Five blind people went to see an elephant, ◦ one touches the trunk and said oh ! The elephant is like a hose pipe. ◦ one touches the leg of the elephant and says oh! The elephant is like a tree. ◦ one person touches the tail of the elephant and said oh! The elephant is like a paint brush. ◦ one person touches the ears of the elephant and said oh! The elephant is like a fan . ◦ one person touches the body of the elephant and says that oh! The elephant is like a wall.
  • 7.  The expert comments of the five blind people, their analysis, opinions, views, and suggestions are wrong, it’s only the apparent truth.  Our five senses, eyes, ears, nose, tongue and touch, all these are blind senses.  How our suffering keeps on increasing and how it is important to live in the world of reality and not the apparent truth.
  • 8.  How our Evaluation, Suggestions, Views, Expert comments, Opinion and Decisions are depending on the input of the five senses, only apparent truth.
  • 9.  We work at 5 to 10 % of the mental capacity the rest is filled with negativity.  When the anti scan virus works in the computer the capacity to process increases, Our capacity to work increases.
  • 10.  What is the difference between you and your dead body? Mind!!  When the Mind is there this body is called a life body.  When the Mind is not there it is called a dead body.
  • 11.  It is the sum total of all the food that I have eaten.  The mental body is the sum total of all the mental actions that we have done, including the mental actions like, when we are watching a movie we are generating passion at the mental level.
  • 12.  In today's world we have the British education system which does not emphasize on the mind .  In olden days in India we had the Gurukul system of education where the guru teaches you how to master the mind .  Then you learn some skill’s by which you can make money and lead a happy and contented live.
  • 13.  We are running the anti virus scan, when all the programmes are not working, it’s the anti virus scan program that works.  If we keep pressing the delete button on the computer one by one the programmes gets deleted for example: anger comes to the surface and anger gets deleted and there comes a time when all the programmes of negativity gets deleted.
  • 14.  The reason we go to a meditation centre is to train our mind and master the 5 senses and learn to lead a happy life.  A balanced life.  A life of peace and harmony .
  • 15.  In olden days a temple was a place to learn and master the scriptures; The Gita, The Ramayana, The Mahabharata, Master the scriptures and apply them in your life.   Today a temple has become a place for begging, people have forgotten the  main purpose in every place of worship.  Nobody wants to master the scriptures and lead a good life and apply the scriptures in their life.  Everybody thinks that some God or guru is going to solve all problems.
  • 16.  When you sow a seed of mango you get a fruit of mango and the multiplication effect i.e. “sweet fruits”  When you sow a seed of Neem you get a fruit of neem and the multiplication effect i.e. “Bitter fruits”  We get similar fruits with the multiplying effect and we can see a continuous process of multiplication.
  • 17.  Suppose, if I had eaten fatty food then I may have a fat body, same way with the mental body. Seeds of anger reaps fruits of anger, seeds of hatred reaps fruits of hatred. It is a continuous process of multiplication.  Just like a rubber ball, when it is hit hard on the ground the ball bounces ten or fifteen times before the charge of the ball is over when it comes to a stop, that is the multiplying effect on the ball .  You sow a seed of mango and you get many fruits of mango thus the multiplication process goes on.
  • 18.  Applying, The Gita, The Ramayana, The Mahabharata, The Bible, The Koran in your life , the direct experience of the truth within, direct application of the truth in your life.  Vipassana is the process of Mental purification of the Mind through the process of self observation.
  • 19.  The scriptures says, the kingdom of heaven is within, that is true, but have you experienced it?  The scriptures says ,Don't judge people, but we keep judging people every day.  The scriptures says Love Thy neighbour but all we do is hate our neighbours.
  • 20.  If you have eaten bad food then you have to pay a heavy price; stomach pain, constipation, loose motion, or in extreme cases even death. You sow seeds of bad food, and the fruit reaps bad result’s.  There is no forgiveness in the laws of nature. In the same way if you sow seeds of anger, you get fruits of anger, you sow seeds of hatred you get fruits of hatred.
  • 21.  We always have the habit of saying, this is going wrong in my life, and that is going wrong in my life, he was wrong, she was wrong.  We always have the habit of thinking that lots of wrongs are happening in our live’s.  But the truth is that nothing wrong happens in anybody's life.
  • 22.  By sowing a seed of mango you do not get fruits of chikoo, cauliflower or tomato, it never happens in the real world .  In the same manner in the inside world nothing goes wrong.  The moment you sow seeds of anger you reap the fruits of anger the moment you sow seeds of hatred you reap the fruits of hatred .
  • 23.  If you hurry now, then, later you have to worry.  In today's world people are making money in the name of career in a very unbalanced manner.  They pay a heavy price for bad health in future.  They make extra money to pay their extra medical Bills in the later years of their lives.  They are making money only to pay medical bills. They get a heart-attack then another one, and finally the doctor tells them to go to America for better treatment .  They had sown the seeds of suffering which in turn reaped fruits of suffering.
  • 24.  What is the cause of suffering? rich man poor man, beautiful lady, handsome man, everybody in this world is suffering but why, what is the cause?  Buddha realised that the mind has two deep rooted habit patterns that is, Craving and Aversion, and this happens because we are ignorant about the laws of nature.  Craving is, I want, I like, I want more and Aversion is, I don’t want, I don't like, or I hate this.  All the five senses have Craving or Aversion.
  • 25.  Just like a see-saw, you press craving and aversion goes up and when you press aversion and craving goes up.  Just like a boat when you press one side Craving and the-boat sinks and you press the other side aversion and again the boat sinks.  You have to learn the art of balancing the mind.  Both Craving & Aversion has to balance the mind.
  • 26.  India and Pakistan cricket match: what happens in every ball there is a craving and aversion, because I think that I am an Indian, again illusion.  How can you say you are an Indian? you can't pay your tax, help your neighbors, neither help someone in an accident on the road.
  • 27.  You are watching a movie, a romantic scene begins, immediately passion starts building, a biochemical reaction has started in the body, the person on the screen is not your wife, husband, girlfriend, Boyfriend then why are you reacting? Oh, what is passion? Just craving, just an illusion,  There is nothing attractive in a human body, the truth of a body is that, it is a stinking body but still I find Aishwarya Rai attractive when she is integrated.  But when she is disintegrated then she is not attractive it becomes repulsive.”Aversion”
  • 28.  Lets us study the truth, like a scientist lets us divide the body into 4 buckets, one bucket of blood, one bucket of beautiful flesh, and one bucket of eyes, ears, bones, intestine, shit, piss etc, that is what a body consists of .Now there is no attraction. Isn’t it?  You are watching an action movie, lots of Pakistani’s are beating up Indians, immediately patriotism starts building in our mind, why? I do not not pay taxes nor help anybody in this world, neither help a child crying on the road, nor even help my neighbors .
  • 29.  Buddha discovered that the mind has four parts  Cognition  Recognition  Sensation i.e. (observation of sensations on the body)  Sankhara (Reaction)  Any input in your five senses
  • 30.  Suppose I have two jute ropes say one rope is craving the other is aversion and we twist it, for some hours and after some time if we leave it, What will happen?  It will rewind back in the opposite direction.   It is a natural process, all we have to do is learn the art of observing the reality inside objectively.
  • 31.  There is no place in this world where any God or guru has the guts to run any centre without charging any fees, no hinting for donation, no forcing. Just like in the olden days, “The Gurukul system”.   For 800 people, their food, accommodation and this wonderful technique, without any charges for 10 days.  We have 160 centres in the world all the centres run on the same system, those people who have done this course can donate after having done a ten day course  They donate out of gratitude for the centre, the teacher or the technique.
  • 32.  Just like you look after your parents out of gratitude, because they looked after you, fulfilled all your wishes desires, whims and fancies, sacrificed for you, so out of gratitude for all the good they have done we look after them for rest of their life.  Those people who have benefited from this course helps us to run the centre.
  • 33.  The five precepts.  Not to kill.  Not to tell lies.(Refrain from bad speech)  Not to cheat or steal.  Not to take intoxicants  No sexual misconduct.  No outside contact (outside world) , no mobile ,walkie talkies, pager, laptop, computers, books, Walkman or news paper. This is a very serious and intensive course.
  • 34.  Just like a physical training in a Gym, everybody’s life is not going to change, it depends on your efforts, determination and seriousness to change yourself.  Say a 1000 children go to school ,How many will come first in class? just one or two, How many will have some interest in studies? just a handful.
  • 35.  We have 30,000 - 70,000 people who have done this course in the last 42 years in Mumbai.  The Eight Wonder of the world where 10,000 people can meditate, the structure made of pure rock no cement like the pyramids in Egypt is in Essel world, Mumbai which will last 2500 years.
