           The traditional financial services approach is broken.

 It's kept alive by fear – the fear that whatever you're doing now won't be enough to take
 care of you and the ones you love in the future.

 That fear drives you to sacrifice more than you'd like, to compromise the life you want to
 live today. And it drives you to take investment risks outside your comfort zone, to chase
 greater returns.

 Yet, despite your efforts, it seems your ultimate success or failure relies on making the
 right bet and hoping that luck falls in your favor.

 An approach that promises to help achieve your life goals, and then delivers fear,
 anxiety, resentment and uncertainty, is clearly broken.

                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The problem is that traditional financial services reduce your
               financial future to a game of numbers.
            The Wealthcare revolution puts you back in control.
    Traditional Financial Services vs. The Wealthcare Revolution
    The 'best practice' delivery of traditional financial services is underpinned by a series of
    core premises. The Wealthcare revolution questions the validity of each of these
    premises and proposes an alternative process grounded in the principle of serving your
    needs first.
    The Path To Revolution
    Every revolution begins with one person questioning the status quo:
       •   Is this working?
       •   Is the system delivering what it promises?
       •   Is there a better way?
    In the case of the Wealthcare revolution, that person was David Loeper. With extensive
    experience in financial advising and investment firm management, he looked across the
    industry and saw clearly that the traditional financial services approach was failing to
    deliver on its core promise – to empower clients to achieve, with ease and confidence,
    the goals they value.
    He made this breakthrough by simply viewing the traditional financial services
    experience from the client's perspective – from your perspective.
    Any of this sound familiar?
    You've got an appointment with your new financial advisor, and the first challenge is to
    get through the 30 page plus interrogation questionnaire. You're scrabbling through
    paperwork to find last year's insurance premium, and you're not sure what to put for your
    goal retirement age (after all, that depends on a lot of factors that can't be captured in a
    single figure), but you dutifully tick all the boxes as required.
    Now you're sitting in front of your advisor and those 'data points' from your questionnaire
    have been meticulously transferred into the latest financial planning software. The
    computer calculates a low probability of achieving all the desired goals, so 'lower priority
    luxuries' (like your annual travel budget) are eliminated completely.
    Your risk tolerance profile has been determined to be “moderate-aggressive” so the
    highest returning portfolio package in that bracket is recommended. Finally the advisor
    informs you that the agreed scenario depends upon savings of $15,000 per year.
4 | The Wealthcare Revolution                                              © 2010 Russ Thornton
However, that's assuming the most favorable returns so it's decided to increase it to
  $18,000 just to be sure – after all you can never save too much, right?
  You return a year later for your annual review and discover that although your portfolio
  performed well with respect to market benchmark returns, it's not achieved the growth
  initially projected. An adjusted strategy is recommended and various technical statistics
  and simulation scenarios are produced in support of the recommendation.
  Is this working for you?
  No. But if you question any aspect –
      •   the tedious data gathering for no apparent useful purpose
      •   the near indecipherable technical jargon and statistical modeling
      •   the pressure to risk more and sacrifice more to 'stay ahead of the game'
      •   the lack of reasoned discussion about your life goals and what you really want
          from your investment strategy
  – you're told that this is just 'the way it is', and to 'leave it in our hands'.
  This experience is replicated in the offices of countless financial advisors, with you
  paying for the privilege. You're not alone in finding this a disempowering,
  uncomfortable, uncertain and stressful process.
  It's not you who doesn't get the system, it's the system that doesn't get you.
  The traditional financial services approach is built on certain fixed assumptions about
  what you want and the best way to get it.
  The system cannot accommodate someone who does not fit within these assumptions.
  Someone who's highest priority is not investment growth at any cost. Someone who
  wants to make choices based on what's uniquely important to them. Someone who
5 | The Wealthcare Revolution                                                  © 2010 Russ Thornton
`
    doesn't want to take on more risk than absolutely necessary to achieve their goals.
    Someone who wants to enjoy the life they have, right now, not in 20 or 30 years.
    The system doesn't get you, but you don't seem to have any alternatives.
    This is the approach endorsed by the experts. These are the industry adopted best
    practices based on Nobel Prize winning theories. From within this bubble of certitude,
    it's difficult for advisors and clients alike to imagine anything different.
    That's how the status quo is maintained, despite the fact that it fails to meet your ne e ds .
    What does it take to change the status quo?
    It takes active inquiry to recognize the faulty assumptions inherent in the traditional
    financial services approach.
    It takes conviction to push back against the 'wisdom' of an entire industry.
    It takes willingness to listen to what people really want and to imagine a new approach
    that puts their needs first.
    That's what Mr. Loeper and I are doing with Wealthcare.
    The Wealthcare revolution
    The Wealthcare revolution is about helping you live the one life you have, the best way
    you can.
    Wealthcare operates from the premise that you want to define what success means to
    you and determine your own unique life goals.
6 | The Wealthcare Revolution                                                © 2010 Russ Thornton
Wealthcare helps you achieve the goals that are most important to you under the
following assumptions:
    •  you want to enjoy the life you have now as much as possible
    •  you want to be financially independent as soon as possible
    •  you want to take as little investment risk as possible.
However, these are simply starting points, not fixed positions. Every aspect is
discussed and adjusted to craft your personal approach – an approach that balances
your choices and priorities.
Wealthcare measures success by whether you're on track to achieve what's important
to you right now, not by statistical analysis of past market performance.
Wealthcare empowers you to make financial decisions with ease and confidence,
despite the inherent uncertainty of financial markets.
Perhaps most importantly, Wealthcare is not a 'final solution' – it's an ongoing process
that acknowledges there is always more to be learned, and is constantly evolving to
better meet your needs.
An adjusted strategy is recommended and various technical statistics and simulation scenarios are produced in support of the recommendation. Is this working for you? No. But if you question any aspect – • the tedious data gathering for no apparent useful purpose • the near indecipherable technical jargon and statistical modeling • the pressure to risk more and sacrifice more to 'stay ahead of the game' • the lack of reasoned discussion about your life goals and what you really want from your investment strategy – you're told that this is just 'the way it is', and to 'leave it in our hands'. This experience is replicated in the offices of countless financial advisors, with you paying for the privilege. Wealthcare helps you achieve the goals that are most important to you under the following assumptions: • you want to enjoy the life you have now as much as possible • you want to be financially independent as soon as possible • you want to take as little investment risk as possible. However, these are simply starting points, not fixed positions. Every aspect is discussed and adjusted to craft your personal approach – an approach that balances your choices and priorities. Wealthcare measures success by whether you're on track to achieve what's important to you right now, not by statistical analysis of past market performance. Wealthcare empowers you to make financial decisions with ease and confidence, despite the inherent uncertainty of financial markets. Perhaps most importantly, Wealthcare is not a 'final solution' – it's an ongoing process that acknowledges there is always more to be learned, and is constantly evolving to better meet your needs.
