The Net Party Manifesto
1. HOW TO
MAKE A NET
PARTY
1
THE NET MANIFESTO
MAY THE NET AWAKEN!
2. #STALEDEMOCRACY
Present democracy has grown stale. it is short-sighted and prioritizes poorly: it’s
bandwidth is limited
‣ #StaleDemocracy is a 19th century legacy: forged under different social and te-
chnological circumstances, it doesn’t serve new demands
‣ #StaleDemocracy doesn’t reflect the individual’s complexity: it stereotypes peo-
ple and forgets they have multiple dimensions
‣ #StaleDemocracy is a system that runs on ink, paper and stamps that turns its
back on 21st century connectivity
‣ #StaleDemocracy assumes a widespread citizens’ apathy. it excludes those who
“lose” and isolates those who “win”
‣ #StaleDemocracy embitters people in their disagreements and discourages op-
portunities to agree and cooperate
‣ under #StaleDemocracy consumerism determines the public sphere’s rationale.
merchandise and money are globalized but liberties are not
‣ under #StaleDemocracy, power moves in grey areas, bureaucratic cages, oligar-
chic organizations, pyramidal schemes
‣ #StaleDemocracy is a supermarket with a meager and mediocre offering that
forces one to choose and debate about people but not ideas
‣ #StaleDemocracy has a like-minded political leadership: marketing is its morals,
its tragedy is the death of ideas
‣ #StaleDemocracy casts us aside when deciding, it gives us toothless rights with
no real opportunities and thus produces ineffective policies
‣ #StaleDemocracy disdains people: it is that teacher that looks down on students
and constrains them to be silent

3. #NET
The self grows and expresses itself together with others. connected we thrive.
‣ the #Net connects: it’s a system of links that organizes, distributes and circula-
tes energy among its nodes
‣ the #Net is a model that is not sustained in a hierarchical structure: any node is
able to affect or influence any other
‣ the #Net is weaved by people who transform each other and share spaces which
are, at the same time, modified by those relations
‣ the #Net is structured peer to peer: it is a human #Net with no center, that sha-
res knowledge, experiences and collective wisdom
‣ the #Net challenges information hoarding, bringing down social, economic, cul-
tural, intellectual and geographical barriers
‣ the #Net revolutionizes institutional practices and subjects: it alters existing te-
chnological and production conditions
‣ being in the #Net facilitates access to a system to build our public, physical and
virtual commons, daily
‣ being in the #Net enhances singularity: awakens, broadens the expansion of
consciousness
‣ being in the #Net amplifies the scope of collective deliberation: it enables em-
pathy, frees the people from vicious competition
‣ being in the #Net changes who we are and what we do. gives us new logical
frameworks, new sensitivities, new languages
‣ the #Net is an agora that even the Greeks couldn’t dream of. building democra-
tic forums instead of solemn palaces is our responsibility

4. #PEERS
The uncertainties of the modern world must not transform us into machines poli-
tically, economically and biologically programmed.
‣ #Peers are those who, by enhancing their singularity, become equal in public life
and bind together in liberties and responsibilities
‣ #Peers connect with each other, they are active, learn, transform themselves, re-
late to the environment, give and receive in community
‣ #Peers are unique subjects with multiple dimensions that can group and re-
group according to the circumstances
‣ #Peers’ singularity in their private life heightens the public life: it multiplies dif-
ferent lifestyles that are able to harmoniously coexist
‣ #Peers have no tutelages or intermediary benefactors. they can delegate, but
they always uphold power
‣ #Peers do not acknowledge each other by their consumption. they meet to
cooperate and not to compete
‣ #Peers are plural: they are not governed by an antagonistic logic, they seek to
reach a synthesis instead of dismissing the other
‣ reinvigorating Democracy consists in empowering #Peers inside the system
‣ there are no apathetic #Peers if power circulation is favored, if the interplay
between individuals and institutions is modified
‣ among #Peers new instances to participate can be created to connect and re-
connect ourselves in #Nets that will amplify our reach
‣ #Peers doubts the avant-gardes: they become equal so individual opportunities
may flourish combined with public actions

5. #NETDEMOCRACY
Ideas are disseminated, points of view are multiplied, knowledge is transformed.
‣ #NetDemocracy is a way of living. it is, as well, a body of practices that organi-
zes our social harmony
‣ #NetDemocracy connects, its goal is to accelerate the construction of #Nets
formed by #Peers with a political purpose
‣ #NetDemocracy, as a system, endeavors to disseminate information transpa-
rently, it highlights horizontality over verticality
‣ #NetDemocracy relies upon education in critical thinking and the equal circula-
tion of different points of view
‣ in #NetDemocracy decisions arise from a dialogue between majorities and mi-
norities, with rules to reach consent and means for dissent
‣ #NetDemocracy doesn’t dismiss present democracy but complements it, nor it
eliminates representatives, but points them towards ideas
‣ #NetDemocracy resignifies intermediation and strengthens Democracy’s legiti-
macy
‣ #NetDemocracy seeks empathy and collective action to invigorate public insti-
tutions and raise the state’s awareness
‣ #NetDemocracy is based on daily actions: it specifies the scope of consensus
and distributes operational capabilities
‣ #NetDemocracy makes collective intelligence plausible: it closes the breach
between us, brings back the enthusiasm in us
‣ #NetDemocracy compels our representatives to be frank: it is the lock that im-
pedes concentration and they key that allows deliberation

6. #THENETPARTY
The past constitutes our present identity: we honor history to create the future.
‣ #TheNetParty aims to engage #Peers in a citizens’ participation model of effec-
tive political consequences
‣ #TheNetParty is literal: it organizes, works and decide as a #Net
‣ #TheNetParty feels global: it operates within a geographical framework, but its
spirit refers to all the inhabitants of the world
‣ #TheNetParty opens the doors of participation through technological tools. ac-
cess to the net is a right
‣ #TheNetParty understands the Software as a symbol of the value of creativity,
talent, cooperation and freedom
‣ #TheNetParty uses Software to build collective intelligence and foster new in-
teractions between politics and citizenship
‣ #TheNetParty conceives Software as an instrument to stimulate the best argu-
ments and reach better decisions
‣ #TheNetParty sees Software as a vehicle for a #Net formed by #Peers with the
potential to hack the system and reshape it
‣ #TheNetParty invites #Peers to participate in all instances, to walk in each ot-
her’s shoes, to persuade and be persuaded
‣ #TheNetParty is born to overcome “one to many” structures and organize a
conversation of “many to many”
‣ #TheNetParty is here to take creativity to power, trust to society and passion to
the public service
May the Net awaken!
