America’s GOATS 2.66 million is the number of goats in the US in 2020. Goats are raised in all 50 states. Texas, has the most goats by far, but Wisconsin has the most dairy goats. 136,442 is the number of goat farms in the US, according to the 2017 Ag Census. The average farm has only 20 goats. 127,000 Angora goats were clipped in 2019. The average clip per goat was 5.2 lbs. The average price paid for mohair was $6.37 per lb. Dairy goats are the fastest growing segment of the US livestock industry, increasing 61% between 2007 and 2017. There are 440,000 dairy goats in the US. Goat meat is a healthy, low fat protein. It is preferred by many cultures around the world. The demand for goat meat is growing in the US, so much so that the US must import over 50% of its domestic needs. Weeds! It is becoming increasingly popular to use goats to remove undesirable plants. Goats are a natural, eco-friendly alternative to the chemical and fuel- based options for controlling unwanted vegetation.

  • 1. America’s GOATS 2.66 million is the number of goats in the US in 2020. Goats are raised in all 50 states. Texas, has the most goats by far, but Wisconsin has the most dairy goats. 136,442 is the number of goat farms in the US, according to the 2017 Ag Census. The average farm has only 20 goats. 127,000 Angora goats were clipped in 2019. The average clip per goat was 5.2 lbs. The average price paid for mohair was $6.37 per lb. Dairy goats are the fastest growing segment of the US livestock industry, increasing 61% between 2007 and 2017. There are 440,000 dairy goats in the US. Goat meat is a healthy, low fat protein. It is preferred by many cultures around the world. Goats are a natural, eco-friendly alternative to the chemical and fuel- based options for controlling unwanted vegetation.
