This document provides instructions for making a inexpensive and durable mineral feeder for goats and sheep using PVC pipe and fittings. The feeder can be constructed for about $30 and takes only 15 minutes to assemble. It is made by cementing together lengths of straight PVC pipe with 45-degree elbows or Y connectors, end caps, and adapters. Holes can be drilled in one end cap to add a handle and the feeder can be mounted on walls, fences or gates to provide livestock easy access to minerals, salt or other supplements.

1. Make your own mineral feeder for goats and sheep
This mineral feeder is great for dispensing loose minerals, salt, or sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). You
can make a feeder for about $30 worth of PVC and 15 minutes of effort. When fastened properly, it
won’t spill and it is virtually indestructible.
Assemble your 3” or 4” PVC pipe components. You will need:
1) Length of straight pipe
2) 45 degree elbow or Y connector
3) End cap
4) Female adaptor
5) Male threaded cap
Make sure all the pieces fit together. You will need a can of PVC primer and PVC cement. Get small cans.
You don’t need much.
1) Apply the primer to the inside of the 45 degree connector and one end of the straight pipe. Let
it dry f or a few minutes.
2) Apply the cement and immediately push the pipe ends together.
3) Repeat the process for the female adaptor and other end of the 45 degree connector.
4) Screw in the male threaded cap.
5) Drill a small hole in the non‐threaded cap and insert a bolt. This makes a nifty handle.
6) You can either bolt the feeder to the wall, drill a few holes and hang it, or use a pipe clamp to
attach it to a gate or post.
