Editor's Notes
We can pinpoint seven main arguments why Flanders is an ideal region to invest in.
In a recent benchmark executed in the Financial Times Benchmark database our region has clearly positioned itself as second most attractive region when compared to our neighbouring regions abroad
Flanders is a prime business region. It is strategically located right in the center of the most prosperous part of Europe. In addition, its capital Brussels is home to the European decision-making centers. Two crucial factors for your company when making an investment decision in Europe.
Like mentioned already, Flanders is in the heart of Europe’s purchasing power.
Over 60% of the European purchasing power is situated within a tight 500 kilometer radius around Flanders. This means customers can be reached and served in the fastest of times. Flanders is relatively close to large industrial and consumer centers, such as the region around Paris, the Ruhr area and the Benelux.
“The central location of Flanders is a key performance indicator for the competitiveness of a region. We are in the middle of the European market for our products.” Wouter De Geest, Managing Director, BASF Antwerp
Close proximity to the European institutions
Brussels is home to the NATO and European Union headquarters. No wonder a large number of international governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as corporate representative offices and treasury operations are based there. They like to keep abreast of European policymaking and the effect this has on their activities.
EDC: In spite of a surface area of a mere 13,522 km2, Flanders offers an impressive portfolio of more than 800 EDCs. This is equivalent to 6 EDCs for every 100 km2, which is the highest such density in all of Europe.
