2. The Flag
 The flag of Mexico is a tricolored flag.
 It is made up of three vertical different-colored
bands.
 The colors are green, white, and red, and each
has its own significance.
 In the white section there is also the shield of
Mexico.

3. Meaning of the Colors
 In the Mexican flag, each color has a meaning:
 Red: the spilled blood of national heroes.
 White: unity.
 Green: hope.

4. Meaning of the Colors
 Before the revolution, though, the colors had
different meanings. They were changed after
the separation of State and Church.
 Red: Unity between Europeans and Mexicans.
 Green: Independence.
 White: Religion.

5. The Shield
 The flag of Mexico has a shield on the white section,
which depicts an eagle devouring a snake while on a
cactus.
 This has an Aztec origin. The legends say that the
wandering Aztecs thought that the gods would send them
a signal when they got to where they should establish their
city. So when they reached a lake and saw an isle in the
middle, upon which an eagle posed on a cactus was
devouring a snake, a sign foretold by their priests, they
stayed there and founded Tenochtitlan.
