Charles Robert Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England on 12 February 1809 at his family home, the Mount. His father was a well known physician . Marianne --Charles had four older siblings: Caroline Susan Erasmus 1818 September Darwin joined his brother, Erasmus, at Shrewsbury Grammar School, run by the Revd. Samuel Butler. The focus of study was Greek and Roman reading and grammar. He developed a great fondness of Shakespeare and Byron during this time.. 1817 July 15 Darwin's mother, Susannah, died when he was eight years old. 1817 Spring Darwin attended Mr. Case's grammar school in Shrewsbury. He was a rather shy and reserved boy who invented wild stories, and showed off his athletic skills to the other boys. He was also very mischievous, and enjoyed being the center of attention in the household.

The Beagle was chartered for a five-year mapping and collecting expedition to South America and the South Pacific. Darwin's job as ship naturalist was to collect specimens, make observations, and keep careful records of anything he observed that he thought significant. At the beginning of the voyage Darwin read a geology book given to him by Henslow. This book, Principles of Geology by Charles Lyell, spurred his interest in the study of land forms. Charles Darwin sailed from Plymouth on the 27 December 1831 on a journey that was to take him many thousands of miles. He sailed in a ship called the Beagle. The Beagle was not a big ship, it was only about 28 metres long and had to be home to 74 people for the whole voyage. Darwin took with him a copy of the bible and books by Milton, Humboldt as well as a copy of Lyell's first volume on Principles Of Geology. He also took binoculars, a geological magnifying glass and jars of spirit for preserving specimens. For many of the early weeks at sea, Darwin was extremely sea-sick and could eat nothing but raisins. When they landed at Cape Verde he began to feel better, as he was able to go ashore and start noting, collecting, recording and observing the bird life, the natives, the plants and the landscape.

at any time of evolution, lot of species are present on earth these species fight each other for food & space the species which adapt to their surroundings, exist the most fit species survive the nature by itself selects the species that would survive & others would extinct
