• Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1 and
referred to officially as the FIA Formula One World
Championship, is the highest class of single seater auto
racing sanctioned by the Federation Internationale
de l'Automobile (FIA).
• The "formula" designation in the name refers to a set of
rules with which all participants' cars must comply.
• The F1 season consists of a series of races, known as
Grands Prix (from French meaning Grand Prizes), held
on purpose-built circuits and public roads.

3. • The results of each race are combined to
determine two annual World
Championships, one for the drivers and
one for the constructors.
• It has a global audience more than 527
million which increases every year.
• The current reigning F1 world champion is
Sebastian Vettel (GER).

6. Formula One car
• A modern Formula One car is a single-seat, open cockpit, open-
wheel racing car with substantial front and rear wings, and an
engine positioned behind the driver.
• The Formula One regulations specify that cars must be constructed
by the racing teams themselves, though the design and
manufacture can be outsourced.
• Formula One engines may be no more than 2.4 litres in capacity.
They must have eight cylinders in a 90-degree formation, with two
inlet and two exhaust valves per cylinder. They must be normally
aspirated, weigh at least 95 kilograms and be rev-limited to
15,000rpm.

7. • The fuel used in F1 cars is fairly similar to ordinary petrol.
• The driver has the ability to fine tune many elements of the race car from
within the machine using the steering wheel. The wheel can be used to
change gears, apply rev. limiter, adjust fuel/air mix, change brake
pressure, and call the radio. Data such as engine rpm, lap times, speed,
and gear is displayed on an LCD screen.

Saturday which determines a driver’s grid
position and Sunday is the raceday which
is normally a 300km race which averagely
gets completed by 90 mins.

10. Interesting Facts
.
• F1 cars can negotiate corners at significantly
higher speeds due to its light weight and high
down force.
• F1 drivers have prolonged exposure to high G
forces and temperatures for little over an hour.
This results in an average F1 driver losing about
4kgs of weight after just one race.
• In Germany 77% of roads don’t have speed limit
and two champions Michael Schumacher and
Sebastian Vettel belong to that country.

brothers to finish 1st and 2nd in the same
race, a feat they repeated in four
