Case Study Midsouth Chamber of Commerce
In the early 1900 s a group of powerful business people came to the rescue of the economically
drowning Midsouth area. This area which was highly dependent on transportation for economic
development had no representation against any legislative decisions. That is until the Midsouth
Chamber of Commerce (MSCC) was formed. This group lobbied legislature on the issue to provide
transportation services. As the years continued the responsibility of the MSCC shifted from supporting
the area s economy by providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lassiter took it upon himself to make sure the product was ordered. Another month went by and
Lassiter found out the product was still not implemented, Kovecki was too busy with another project
and was not able to get to it until mid April. Lassiter needed to get things moving; after all he told the
Board it would be completed by the end of March 2006. He took some steps for action, called a
meeting to inform his staff, set up appointments with UNITRAK for training himself and staff, yet the
project continued to lag and Lassiter had no choice but to ask Wallingford to intervene. He strongly
urged Hedges and Kovecki toward completion of the project. Gaps in the system continued, not only
did the staff complain about the software not being user friendly, UNITRAK openly admitted the
software was new and that they were open to adjustments and changes, that did not give the staff any
confidence. More problems came about when Kovecki attempted to transfer the information from the
old system to the new and was unsuccessful. Lassiter was at his wits end, sat down and let out a loud
sigh.
Many issues have been brought forth in this case study. I believe that I would propose the following
actions to the Executive Board.
First I would propose role modification changes. A Chief Information Officer (CIO) position would be
created and Lassiter would be the right candidate for it. Value is

Ukulele Research Paper
The Ukulele
The ukulele is a member of the lute family of instruments; meaning that the strings run in a plane
parallel to the sound table. Most people believe that the ukulele originated in Hawaii however, they
actually had their first start in Portugal in 139 B. C in the Lusitania tribe. By the thirteenth century,
four string instruments were being used in Spain, when six string instruments were introduced in the
1700s the popularity of chordophones exploded. (A chordophone is a musical instrument that makes
sound by way of a vibrating string or strings stretched between two points.) Although we all picture
ukuleles as a Hawaiian instrument, it wasn t until 1879 that the first ukulele was brought over from
Portugal. One of the Portuguese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manuel Nunes also suggested a different tuning pattern to make chord formation easier. The body of
the ukulele is usually made from wood. The type of wood has a significant impact on the sound, tone,
and quality. Mahogany is thought to be the finest wood for making ukuleles. It also has excellent
aging properties, sounding better as it gets older. Typically, the same type of wood is used for the
entire instrument. The ukulele is a small instrument that looks like a miniature version of a guitar. It
consists of a short neck, the main body, four strings and tuning keys, a bridge, a fretboard, and a sound
hole. There are a variety of different types of ukuleles including the soprano, concert, tenor, and
baritone. The soprano is the smallest (20 inches) and the baritone is the largest (30 inches). The strings
are tuned to the notes G C E A on all ukuleles except the Baritone. Tuning for the Baritone is D G B E
because it has a deeper sound like that of a guitar. Fun fact about the ukulele: Neil Armstrong loved to
play the ukulele in his downtime. After his trip to the moon, he feared that he had contracted a strange
bacterium, so he spent weeks in quarantine, often

The Truth About the Music Industry Essay
Music is universally known as an expression of emotion, rebellion against the man, a way of life, a
random collection of sounds, an annoying thing kids listen to, or even a vacation from everything, but
in reality music is free of all definition. The industry involved in buying, selling and recording of
music has grown so old, treacherous, and ignorant that it can not figure out the steps it needs to evolve
with the rapidly expanding music industry. Musicians and fans alike are screaming about the dire need
of some modern day innovation in the market. Sadly the monstrous corporations that dominate the
market have put a lid on the competitive edge, stopped the innovative changes any smaller companies
can make.
There are only three major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a band we have done some research of studio time and what it costs to have a record published and
sold in stores. I understand that music is hard to make a living off of because its hard enough to just
pay for the things your band needs and that record labels lose a lot of money in trying to finance an
album that has such a high chance of failure. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the
music industry which limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or musicians could
provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by the Big Three (Sony, Warner Music
Group, and Universal Music Group) who continuously buy out competition and all have many smaller
companies who have front names to cover up the fact that they are owned by the larger corporation.
Ten years ago there were five major companies that controlled the market place, in the beginning of
2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music Group, decided to form a 50/50 partnership that would
spread worldwide. Together they controlled a vast majority of American music and the only place in
the world that was not apart of this corporation was Japan because the business would be affected too
much. Then in 2008 BMG announced that they were not going to renew the contract because of falling
sales which would have been really bad for Sony financially, so they decided to buy BM s portion of
the company for 1.2 billion, which included all of BMG s record

Humor In The Devil Is A Part-Timer
Furthermore, it is important to understand how humor functions within The Devil is a Part Timer in
order to see how it brings to light the problems of the part time working world. For human beings,
humor is a significant part of verbal communication, which in turn makes humor an important part of
any type of communication based media, such as television. One study done by Professor Joanne
Cantor at the University of Wisconsin implies that almost eighty two percent of all television
programs contained at least one attempt at humor. . . all of the situational comedies contained attempts
to be humorous, but well over nine out of ten game shows, children s shows, variety shows, and
movies contained at least one humorous appeal (505). Human s ... Show more content on

The superiority theory notes that people laugh outwardly or inwardly at others because they feel some
sort of triumph over them or feel superior in someway to them, for example parents laughing at the the
misunderstandings of their children. When communicators, or narratives, use this type of humor they
make their audiences feel superior in the sense that they [the audience] are brought up to a more equal
relationship with the speaker (Meyer 314, 318). Although allowing an audience to feel superior to the
character within a show may seem negative at first, due to the fact that it separates the audience from
the characters mentally, in reality by deprecating Maou and Ashiya through humor, the show is able to
bring the two powerful demons down the the audience s level, bringing the two groups closer. As
demons, the situations the the two participate in or the actions that they perform are outside the realm
of the average human being. However, through the use of superiority style humor, the show is able to
make the two more human. The audience is able to see actions that the two preform and know they as
human beings the audience members would be able to perform those actions at the same level or
better. Maou is no longer an all powerful demon king, but an average being on the same playing field
as the audience. This allows the audience to connect with Maou on a

New England Colonies Dbq
Alex Pang Mr. Eliason AP United States History 7 September 2015 Behind its neighbors, England
finally decided to invest in settling in the New World during the 17th century. Many of the expeditions
to North America were made by private organizations; stock companies and the rich alike shared a
common ideal of having a fresh start from outside their homeland. Two colonies with one common
nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. The colonies in New
England and the Chesapeake region developed into two substantially contrasting ways of life. The
main colony in the New England region was Massachusetts, which included the Puritans, a group of
religious settlers who wanted to purify the Protestant Church of England. ... Show more content on

The Puritanical colony of Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1630, and was born from the mindset of
purifying the Church of England. Most people who voyaged from their motherland were families and
their servants (Doc B). Lists of those who emigrated contain upwards of forty families. Also, in the
Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D).
Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who
would get what plot of land. Further, Puritans believed we must entertain each other [with care, and]
must be willing to [bridge ourselves] . . . [to supply for] others necessities (Doc A). The community
theme the Massachusetts people embody is further seen in family relying upon family. Differing from
the New England list of emigrants, most Virginia bound colonists were men who failed to bring their
families or men who did not have families (Doc C). Many of the men aboard were jewelers,
goldsmiths, and other tradesmen who believed they were going to become wealthy at their new
colony. Captain John Smith recounts [many of the worst among us were gold seekers] with their
golden promises [and] made all men their slaves (Doc F). Encroaching on the Native American s land,
Jamestown settlers stole their land in hope of uncovering gold in the area. With community not being
a priority, the division between

Class This Semester Has Been Good
Class this semester has been good. It was a well taught and constructed course. The atmosphere was
always enjoyable unlike a few of my classes. Professor Airek created an open environment that let me
as a student feel as ease communicating and being involved in class. We ve shared many laughs and I
ve grown as a writer and as a student. I ve learned that essays need to be turned in on time and stapled
together. But most of all, I have learned to never give up. One experience in class that I won t forget
was on a Monday morning when we watched a deer frolic through campus like it was his natural
habitat. It just really symbolizes our class and how it is based around random comedy. I can vouch that
simple things like that and cracking jokes in class makes students more at ease in the classroom. We
aren t completely dreading waking up at 7:30 AM every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday when we
know we that class isn t going to be hell. Even while we are having fun in class, we simultaneously
learn things through either short, non throat slitting lectures and/or interesting exercises. I say
interesting because I ve never done things in any of my English classes in high school like I ve done in
Composition 1. This is a good thing. The red barn exercise was one of my favorites. This left it up to
the imagination of the writer to take over and conjure his or her own alternate ending with the prompt
in a short amount of time. This helped me organize my thoughts better in my essays

The Beauty Of My Dreams
Believe in the Beauty of Your Dreams Few things are capable of making me feel beautiful, and that
along with finding a sense of my self worth have been a struggle of mine for the majority of my life.
There have been many trials and errors, but feeling beautiful and finding my self worth have been
beginning to clear up. This was when I met my fiancé, my best friend and soul mate, Jacob. Meeting
Jacob, going to college, and furthering my life with him have helped me experience gain my self
worth over time. Meeting Jacob has changed my life tremendously. We are the kind of couple that you
would never expect to be together. When Jacob walked into my life I was in the darkest and lowest
point in my life. All of the friends I thought I had turned into acquaintances. At the time I doubted
myself and my career as a hair stylist. The day I met Jacob, everything changed. He wanted to be my
friend even though I pushed him away. I felt as if the friends I had did not want to pull me out of my
dark place, and then he would not be the one to do it. I assumed he would give up like all of my other
friends had. Jacob did the impossible; he opened me up and befriended me. Financially, I have been
struggling for quite some time. After only knowing each other for one short month, I asked him to
move in with me. Asking Jacob to move in was one of the best questions I have ever asked someone
before. We were friends at first, we then became best friends, and after less than a month of him

Different Types Of Tests Psychologists
According to the textbook, personality and its many dynamics may be hypothesized, tried, and studied
based on the LOTS acronym (Cervone Pervin, 2013). This simplistic acronym describes four different
types of tests psychologists use to study theories and obtain data. Each letter stands for a different
method type used by professionals, all varying in their techniques, processes and the results that they
provide. Every form of study has many different pros and cons, which is what scientists examine
before choosing the most appropriate one to use for their specific study. They do so to obtain the most
valid and reliable results, able to be legitimately replicated. The L stands for life record data, a process
in which info is attained from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead the subject can be studied in a comfortable and familiar setting, allowing the examiner to
observe the full complexity and depth of the person. Some cons include unsystematic processes of
obtaining data, as well as risks of the examinee and examiner creating informal relationships and
bonds, and therefore skewing the results due to subjective recordings. The T in LOTS stands for test
data, which is info obtained by standardized and procedural tests taken by subjects. These are
commonly used online, and among college psychology courses. The test data method is used because
it can quickly and efficiently gather copious amounts of data in multiple different areas. It can also
obtain large samples from different subjects and is one of the most economical research options.
Unfortunately this process may result in issues of invalid data because some questions may not apply
to certain people. Also, other questions vital in order study the individual more in depth, may also not
be included in the questionnaire. If a test is nomothetic, than this threat is increased because it is
standardized, therefore scored and examined the same, among everyone. However, if it is ideographic,
than this possibility is less unlikely because the questionnaire is tailored to fit that person s specific
and individual personality. Another downfall is that some of the research needed cannot be obtained

Concept Analysis of Empowerment
Empowerment is a concept we all have heard at one time or another it is utilized in numerous
professions and specialties. Analysis of this concept will further understanding of empowerment for
nursing professionals in areas from research, theory development or practice. Exploring the attributes,
consequences, implications and model cases of empowerment can assist the nursing professional in
utilizing empowerment to its fullest potential. Within the scope of nursing, empowerment can be seen
not purely as how it relates to the client, or the nurse but also how it relates to both the client and the

Empowerment always includes power, as it is absolutely necessary. In the field of social work,
empowerment involves the partnership model in which power is developed with and among , rather
than power over consumers. (Cox, et Al 2008) Wetzel and Inglehart demonstrated the Human
Empowerment model in which it is demonstrated empowerment is essential to democracy, because it
is only effective if power is vested within the people. Empowerment in nursing stresses that in order
for a nurse to empower their patients, they must also surrender power. (Gibson, 1991) Seen in all three
disciplines, partnership is a process of enabling people to choose to take control over and make
decisions about their lives and critical to empowerment. It is also a process which values all those
involved. It is a democratic concept, fighting for the advancement of social justice and freedom of
choice. Value of self and others is an important attribute in empowerment, and is essential for
application of the concept. It is a very positive, proactive concept that requires effort from all sides of

They personify conscience and discipline, which Pinocchio lacks at first. The Blue Fairy is
illuminated in the pictures representing her magical and mystical qualities. Jiminy Cricket is the
annoying voice of discipline always warning Pinocchio to heed his advice.
The tale takes place in an Italian village, initially in Geppetto s workshop which is full of wooden
gadgets and chiming clocks, yet he does not know what time it is. The gentle woodcarver is wishing
upon a star for the puppet to come to life and to be his son. The Blue Fairy brings the toy to life out of
compassion for Geppetto who is a good man, but is lonely and wanting someone to love. The puppet
named, Pinocchio, is not yet a human boy. He must earn the right to be real by proving that he is
brave, truthful, and unselfish (The Walt Disney Company, 1992). It is not an easy world for the
puppet. He must learn what it means to be a good person, including: going to school, working hard,
making friends and putting others needs before his own. In the end, after learning some important life
lessons, Pinocchio is transformed from the wooden puppet into the real boy Geppetto has always
wanted (The Walt Disney Company, 1992).
One important event in the story is when Pinocchio is confronted by the Blue Fairy about skipping
school to be in a puppet show. She asks him why he never went to school and he lies to her and says
that he was kidnapped by a

church, named for its first three pastors: Henry Jacob (1563 1624), John Lathrop (1653), and Henry
Jessey (1601 1663). They were known as particular Baptists because of their belief that Christ died for
a particular group of people the elect chosen out of gods mercy before the foundation of the world.
They also believed that all people were born in total depravity worthy only of complete damnation by
a just and righteous God. Yet God, in mercy, had elected some individuals to salvation
unconditionally, a result of Gods sovereign choice, not because of any merit in the individual believer.
All the elect would be saved through Gods irresistible grace and would persevere in Christian
discipleship until the end. Therefore Christ death on the cross was particular to the elect and did not
apply to the entire human race. Thus by the 1640s there were two distinguishable and diverse groups
of Baptists in England. Each using a common set of practices but presenting totally different
theological ideals. By the 1650s another group of Baptists had appeared in England. These Baptists
were known as Seventh Day Baptists because they insisted that Saturday was the divinely

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Essay
In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan
Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one
would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the
literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs scatology to both
shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and normalize the strangeness of
the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the scatological to enhance his novel,
Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. As a result
of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality, Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily
functions highlights makes a private subject public and creates a common thread with his audience.
Realism in the context of literature, is defined by the Carson Newman College as any artistic or
literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions,
or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in
writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to
reflect life as it actually is. The scatological elements that Swift employs are also present across other
artistic forms such as poetry and paintings, and they

California Water Conservation
California recently implemented its new public policy of mandatory water conservation for lawns,
hotels, and restaurants. This policy was passed because of the environmental conditions that are
harming the state. This coincides with stage 1 of the policy cycle stage, agenda setting. In this stage,
the problem is highlighted to the general public: California s scarcity of water supply. California has
experienced a water drought for four years, and water levels are reaching a critical low. The past three
years have been the driest three years in California history dating back to the Gold Rush. On Tuesday,
the Sierra snowpack was at 13 percent of its historic average, and many of the state s largest reservoirs
were far below normal (Rogers). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is stage 6 of the public policy cycle, choosing an alternative. This alternative makes sense
considering that Governor Brown has already asked California residents to reduce their water
consumption, and they haven t been able to meet his desired goal of reducing water usage by 20%.
Punishing people who are excessively using the water supplies with fines is a great solution because it
will ensure that the water is being used wisely. Only the people and businesses that have to use so
much water will be able to pay the fines, and those that find the fines to be expensive will

The Great Divide By John Woolf And Forster s Howard s...

The Great Divide
There were several prevailing thoughts towards connections present during the time in England on the
cusp of High Modernism. The importance of connections with others was one that was specifically
addressed in much of the literature. E.M. Forster even highlighted the idea in his novel Howard s End
with the epigraph only connect . The idea supports the notion that, in order for a society to survive and
thrive, some degree of connection must be adequately maintained. Yet, through the stratification of
social classes in England at the time, there was little social connection being preserved. To address the
issue, authors like Virginia Woolf and Forster included connection as a prominent theme in their
works. Both Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Forster s Howard s End address connection through their
characters as well as geographical locations. In each of these stories, the underlying theme of
connecting highlights the characters struggles to only connect .
It would seem as if Forster is urging connection by illustrating that, without some degree of
connecting, social classes would remain stratified and society would fall into utter ruin. Through the
intermingling of characters in Howard s End , Forster suggests that connecting in such a way is
progress. He further advocates and suggests that progress should be presented as a positive thing, and,
in order for a society to flourish, connections between the

Western medicine has four different areas: clinical, preventive, rehabilitation and general health care.
Western and Chinese medicine each has its own strengths in clinical and preventive medicine.
However, Chinese medicine has more advantages in rehabilitation and health care. Not all physicians
will agree with the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM. Even though Chinese medicine
is not effective for all illnesses and disease, Chinese medicine should be recognized more around the
world because it focuses on holism, maintenance and low cost therapeutic treatments which will be

Analysis Of Borders By Thomas King
Borders , by Thomas King, takes place at the Canadian American border. The main character is a
mother who is Blackfoot. The mother refuses to identify herself as either Canadian or American;
instead, the mother insists that she is Blackfoot, and because of this she and her twelve year old son
have to stay in amidst the border offices of Canada and the United States. The title of this short story,
Borders indicates two borders; one is the physical border amid Canada and the United States and the
other is a metaphorical border between someone s identity and citizenship. In Thomas King s Borders
The story shows proudness of citizenship and it portrays where you are from is a huge part of who you
are. The three arguments that I will argue to prove this thesis is that the mother is proud that she is a
Blackfoot, It is rare and improbable for a young women to leave the reserve, and that the mother
dislikes the Americans because she was proud of her own people.
The mother, throughout the short story, is proud to be a Blackfoot. The first piece of evidence that
supports this is that the mother blatantly refuses to identify as Canadian or American. When the
mother said, Citizenship? Blackfoot . The mother knows she has to identify as either an American or
Canadian but she refuses to because of how proud she is of her people. Next, after the border officers
were being nice and pleasant to her and explaining that her identifying as either a Canadian or an

After WWI Germany was a shadow of her former self; her economy was limping along like an injured

workers in Germany. Germany was in the grips of a depression. The German people were angry, they
hated the Allies for doing this to them. Hatred was growing throughout the minds of the German
people. It is conceivable that Hitler knew this, if he did know this it is also conceivable that he could
direct his people anger and hatred inward. The Jews were a suitable enemy in Hitler s mind. By
providing his people with a common enemy he was able to unify them behind him. His mighty
propaganda machine started to roll, he blamed the Jews for Germany s defeat in WWI, he blamed
them for German s many social and economic problems. He frightened the ruling classes by accusing
the Jews of being in league with the communists. German Jews were made to wear armbands with
Stars of David on them. They were beaten in the streets by groups of thugs. Jewish business were

Harriet Quimby flew solo across the English Channel. Many people did not believe that a woman
could take on such a dangerous flight. An aviator offered to fly across the English Channel wearing
Harriet s purple flying suit. He said that he could switch clothes with her when he reached France.
Harriet Quimby declined his offer because she was determined to accomplish her goal. They knew I
had never used the machine before and probably thought I would find some excuse at the last moment
to back out of the flight. This attitude made me more determined than ever to succeed (America s First
Lady of the Air). Harriet Quimby decided to fly the Blériot XI even though it didn t have an amazing
reputation. The Blériot XI was by all accounts the trickiest plane Blériot had yet designed, and
Quimby had never piloted the model, much less the particular plane Blériot had loaned her (America s

Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce
In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old
boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing
dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is
important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil
War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war
destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize
and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points.
He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down,
especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into
perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small
field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery
and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible
and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses
further, the boy ends up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward
towards battle. The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the

Essay on The Beatles
The Beatles
One of the most influential groups of the 20th Century the Beatles revolutionized rock and roll into
what we know it as today. Not only were they great musicians, they wrote and composed each of their
songs. The band proved to be popular and exciting causing mass hysteria at each of their public
performances. The Fab Four s talent was so great that the phenomenon was termed Beatlemania in
Britain and eventually erupted in the United States being called the British Invasion of the Beatles
(Britannica Online, 2005).
The Beatles was composed of four members: Paul McCartney (born June 18, 1942), John Lennon

1963 proved to be the beginning of the Beatles phenomenon with the release of their hit Please Please
Me . This hit topped the British charts early in 1963 and remained there for 30 weeks (Unterberger,

trying new ideas and adding a new flare to their music. Each of the albums showed a progression of
the artists.
Beatlemania broke out in Britain in late 1963 with the release of the songs She Loves You and I Want
to Hold Your Hand with each single selling over a million copies (Unterberger, 2005). The British
Invasion in the United States began in late 1963 when Capitol records first released I Want to Hold
Your Hand . In a short time the song was at the top of the record charts. Many would say that
Beatlemania officially occurred in the United States when the Beatles made their first appearance on
the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 (Unterberger, 2005). It didn t take long for their popularity to soar in the
U. S. with best selling singles and albums. This dominance of the music industry was unparalleled by
any artist at the time and probably even today.
The Beatles expanded their music success to the movie industry with the making of A Hard Day s

Importance Of Ancient Greek Theatre

ancient Greek Olympics, theatre, and architecture. You might be wonder where Greece is and why is it
important? Greece is North of the Mediterranean sea, West of the Aegean Sea, East of the Ionian Sea,

their culture, specifically their olympics, theatre, and architecture. Their culture is still honored and

cultured by taking their ideas and designs. One of the architecture designs is the Doric column

Examine how one theory of emotion may affect one cognitive...
One theory of how emotion affects the cognitive process of memory is by a process known as a
Flashbulb Memory. The theory is that these Flashbulb Memories will not only enhance the memory
itself, but will make certain aspects of the memory more vivid and detailed. First, the Flashbulb
Memory should be defined. Flashbulb memories are emotional memories that are remembered with
great vivid detail and are almost photo like. For example, if someone were to experience a horrid
natural disaster, they would most likely remember the situation more vividly than people not actually
there. This instance is exactly what Brown and Kulik were trying to show in 1977, and what Conway
was trying to express in 1994. They were dealing with the concept of ... Show more content on

Like the experiment done by Conway et al, Neisser and Harsch investigated people s memory
accuracy of the incident 24 hours after the explosion and then again two years after. The results were:
one day after the disaster, 215 of the participants said that they heard about the disaster on television.
Two and a half years later 45% of the participants claimed to have heard of the event on the television.
Their memories of how they learned the news about the challenger disaster changed over time and
was a huge loophole in the studies in favor of flashbulb memory. Through this study it can be
concluded that flashbulb memories are not reliable and may in fact just be ordinary memories.
From Brown and Kulik to Neisser and Harsch we arrive at completely different conclusions. There are
many strengths to these studies, as they were all with real events that would have affected people
emotionally, but some of the studies were lacking in validity. The studies that recorded before and
after seemed to be more compelling than the ones that just assumed a certain answer. However, the
longer the duration of time between the before and after results most likely produced more variables
being tested, rather than just one. Based on the studies outlined it only seems accurate that these
flashbulb memories actually exist and affect our memory. The real analysis of these findings are how
they actually influence behavior. Emotion can affect memory, and ultimately behavior in someone s
life.

Case Study The Atlantic Division
A Divisional Previews The Atlantic Division 1. Boston Celtics With the big offseason acquisition of
Al Horford, the Celtics are hoping to change their recent playoff history; the last two seasons have
been two one and done, getting swept by the Cavaliers and losing to the Hawks in six respectively. A
big hole that the previous two Celtics team had was at the center position. Night in and night out, the
center position was among the worst in terms of production. With Al Horford now on the roster that
hole is presumably filled. No longer will Celtics fans have to rely on the often out of shape Jared
Sullinger to bang down low against the much bigger, more athletic big men that opposing team s
possess. The presence of Horford also clarifies Kelly Olynyk s role with the team Prior to Horford s
arrival, Olynyk was in and out of the starting lineup, often splitting time with Sulliger. Being in a clear
cut role as the second unit center will only help Olynyk develop as a player. ... Show more content on

With one of the twenty five best players in the league at point guard (Isaiah Thomas) and one of the
best overall defenders in the league at Shooting guard (Avery Bradley), their starting backcourt is one
of the team s biggest strengths. One thing Brad Stevens is going to have to find out about his team is
who is the definitive second unit point guard. With Terry Rosier, Marcus Smart, Demetrius Jackson on
the roster, all four could very well end up as that player. Regardless of who wins the job, all four will
likely see minutes, as Stevens is one of the most creative coaches at creating lineups that utilize

  • 2. Midsouth Chamber of Commerce Essay Case Study Midsouth Chamber of Commerce Pamela A. Hernandez Colorado State University Global Campus Business and Information Technology ISM 500 Dr. Jose Lepervanche September 08, 2013 Case Study Midsouth Chamber of Commerce In the early 1900 s a group of powerful business people came to the rescue of the economically drowning Midsouth area. This area which was highly dependent on transportation for economic development had no representation against any legislative decisions. That is until the Midsouth Chamber of Commerce (MSCC) was formed. This group lobbied legislature on the issue to provide transportation services. As the years continued the responsibility of the MSCC shifted from supporting the area s economy by providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lassiter took it upon himself to make sure the product was ordered. Another month went by and Lassiter found out the product was still not implemented, Kovecki was too busy with another project and was not able to get to it until mid April. Lassiter needed to get things moving; after all he told the Board it would be completed by the end of March 2006. He took some steps for action, called a meeting to inform his staff, set up appointments with UNITRAK for training himself and staff, yet the project continued to lag and Lassiter had no choice but to ask Wallingford to intervene. He strongly urged Hedges and Kovecki toward completion of the project. Most people believe that the ukulele originated in Hawaii however, they actually had their first start in Portugal in 139 B. C in the Lusitania tribe. By the thirteenth century, four string instruments were being used in Spain, when six string instruments were introduced in the 1700s the popularity of chordophones exploded. The type of wood has a significant impact on the sound, tone, and quality. Mahogany is thought to be the finest wood for making ukuleles. It also has excellent aging properties, sounding better as it gets older. Typically, the same type of wood is used for the entire instrument. The ukulele is a small instrument that looks like a miniature version of a guitar. It consists of a short neck, the main body, four strings and tuning keys, a bridge, a fretboard, and a sound hole. There are a variety of different types of ukuleles including the soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. The soprano is the smallest (20 inches) and the baritone is the largest (30 inches). The strings are tuned to the notes G C E A on all ukuleles except the Baritone. Tuning for the Baritone is D G B E because it has a deeper sound like that of a guitar. The industry involved in buying, selling and recording of music has grown so old, treacherous, and ignorant that it can not figure out the steps it needs to evolve with the rapidly expanding music industry. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a band we have done some research of studio time and what it costs to have a record published and sold in stores. I understand that music is hard to make a living off of because its hard enough to just pay for the things your band needs and that record labels lose a lot of money in trying to finance an album that has such a high chance of failure. But major Record labels are creating a monopoly of the music industry which limits the innovation and advancement other minor labels or musicians could provide by taking away competition. The market is dominated by the Big Three (Sony, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) who continuously buy out competition and all have many smaller companies who have front names to cover up the fact that they are owned by the larger corporation. Ten years ago there were five major companies that controlled the market place, in the beginning of 2005 Sony and BMG, Bertelsmann Music Group, decided to form a 50/50 partnership that would spread worldwide. Together they controlled a vast majority of American music and the only place in the world that was not apart of this corporation was Japan because the business would be affected too much. Then in 2008 BMG announced that they were not going to renew the contract because of falling sales which would have been really bad for Sony financially, so they decided to buy BM s portion of the company for 1.2 billion, which included all of BMG s record ... Two colonies with one common nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. Also, in the Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D). Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who would get what plot of land. The T in LOTS stands for test data, which is info obtained by standardized and procedural tests taken by subjects. These are commonly used online, and among college psychology courses. The test data method is used because it can quickly and efficiently gather copious amounts of data in multiple different areas. • 21. Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Essay In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs scatology to both shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and normalize the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the scatological to enhance his novel, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. As a result of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality, Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily functions highlights makes a private subject public and creates a common thread with his audience. Realism in the context of literature, is defined by the Carson Newman College as any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. This policy was passed because of the environmental conditions that are harming the state. This coincides with stage 1 of the policy cycle stage, agenda setting. California has experienced a water drought for four years, and water levels are reaching a critical low. • 24. The Great Divide By John Woolf And Forster s Howard s... Nashandra M. Jolley ENG 4425 Ross 11 November, 2015 The Great Divide There were several prevailing thoughts towards connections present during the time in England on the cusp of High Modernism. The importance of connections with others was one that was specifically addressed in much of the literature. E.M. Forster even highlighted the idea in his novel Howard s End with the epigraph only connect . The idea supports the notion that, in order for a society to survive and thrive, some degree of connection must be adequately maintained. Yet, through the stratification of social classes in England at the time, there was little social connection being preserved. To address the issue, authors like Virginia Woolf and Forster included connection as a prominent theme in their works. Both Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Forster s Howard s End address connection through their characters as well as geographical locations. In each of these stories, the underlying theme of connecting highlights the characters struggles to only connect . It would seem as if Forster is urging connection by illustrating that, without some degree of connecting, social classes would remain stratified and society would fall into utter ruin. Through the intermingling of characters in Howard s End , Forster suggests that connecting in such a way is progress. He further advocates and suggests that progress should be presented as a positive thing, and, in order for a society to flourish, connections between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mother refuses to identify herself as either Canadian or American; instead, the mother insists that she is Blackfoot, and because of this she and her twelve year old son have to stay in amidst the border offices of Canada and the United States. The title of this short story, Borders indicates two borders; one is the physical border amid Canada and the United States and the other is a metaphorical border between someone s identity and citizenship. In Thomas King s Borders The story shows proudness of citizenship and it portrays where you are from is a huge part of who you are. The three arguments that I will argue to prove this thesis is that the mother is proud that she is a Blackfoot, It is rare and improbable for a young women to leave the reserve, and that the mother dislikes the Americans because she was proud of her own people. The mother, throughout the short story, is proud to be a Blackfoot. The first piece of evidence that supports this is that the mother blatantly refuses to identify as Canadian or American. When the mother said, Citizenship? Blackfoot . The mother knows she has to identify as either an American or Canadian but she refuses to because of how proud she is of her people. Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses further, the boy ends up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward towards battle. The theory is that these Flashbulb Memories will not only enhance the memory itself, but will make certain aspects of the memory more vivid and detailed. First, the Flashbulb Memory should be defined. Flashbulb memories are emotional memories that are remembered with great vivid detail and are almost photo like. For example, if someone were to experience a horrid natural disaster, they would most likely remember the situation more vividly than people not actually there. This instance is exactly what Brown and Kulik were trying to show in 1977, and what Conway was trying to express in 1994. They were dealing with the concept of ... Two and a half years later 45% of the participants claimed to have heard of the event on the television. Their memories of how they learned the news about the challenger disaster changed over time and was a huge loophole in the studies in favor of flashbulb memory. Through this study it can be concluded that flashbulb memories are not reliable and may in fact just be ordinary memories. From Brown and Kulik to Neisser and Harsch we arrive at completely different conclusions. There are many strengths to these studies, as they were all with real events that would have affected people emotionally, but some of the studies were lacking in validity. The studies that recorded before and after seemed to be more compelling than the ones that just assumed a certain answer. However, the longer the duration of time between the before and after results most likely produced more variables being tested, rather than just one. Based on the studies outlined it only seems accurate that these flashbulb memories actually exist and affect our memory. The real analysis of these findings are how they actually influence behavior.
