Mark Twain Unconscious Plagiarism
Mark Twain was a very talented man who did many great things in his time. Mark Twain was a writer
and was very good at his writing too. He sold many books in his time and was also a good person.
When he did something wrong, he knew he did and when he did something right, he didn t get full of
himself or rude. Mark Twain was a man of honesty, he was very successful in his writing, and was a
great author of stories. Mark Twain was a very honest man. In the writing piece written by Mark
Twain, titled, Unconscious Plagiarism , it says, Perhaps I unconsciously stole the rest of the volume,
too, for many people have told me that my book was pretty poetical one way or another. Well, of
course, I wrote Doctor Holmes and told him I hadn t meant to steal and he wrote back and said in the
kindest way that it was all right and no harm done; and added that he believed we all unconsciously
worked over ideas gathered in reading and hearing, imagining they were original with ourselves. This
was written because Mark Twain wrote something and a man told him that it was very similar to
someone else s writing. The man showed him proof of it and Mark Twain realized that he had read
poems written by another man before he had begun writing and accidentally stole this man s way of
writing without realizing it. But after he realized this, he owned up to it and apologized for it. There
are many examples but this is just one of the many that show you that Mark Twain was a very truthful
person.

Are video games useful? Do they serve any type of larger purpose other than providing entertainment
through a screen? These are complex and multifaceted questions that require complex and
multifaceted answers. Prior to answering these questions, I believe it is important for recognize that
each gaming experience is different. There are many different types of games, people have different
types of reactions to each game specifically, and there are different ways to play games. Just looking
at the physical aspect of gaming, there are different consoles, controllers, viewing options, amounts of
players that can play certain games, etc. My point here is gaming is a category of entertainment that,

A study done at Stanford in 1997 found that the games were extremely effective. Brown et. al (1997)
found that diabetic children who played the Packy and Marlon game were four times less likely (77%
decrease) to require urgent health care visits than those who played a different game. The conclusions
here suggest that well designed video games can be highly appealing and motivating learning
environments for players. In these virtual worlds, players have access to unlimited opportunities to
rehearse skills, experience social support (between peers who also played the game as well as the
game characters themselves), actively obtain and use information, and receive immediate feedback on
their performance. Essentially it is a virtual world that allows for cognitive social learning to occur.
Lieberman (2001) found that children who played Bronkie experienced a gain in asthma related self
efficacy, while those who watched a 30 minute video tape about asthma self care experienced a
decrease in self efficacy. The researchers believed this difference in self efficacy scores may have
occurred because while the video tape presented a lot of how to information, it did not offer any
opportunity for the children to practice using those skills. Experience is a crucial component of self
efficacy because it allows for self reflection, rehearsal, and with success it

Between Wonder, Imagination And Space In A Midsummer s...
In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare tells us a poet s task is to transform things unknown to
shapes that give to airy nothing a local habitation and a name, suggesting a defined context ( local
habitation ) and words ( a name ) (5.1.65). Without a named place we live in a chaotic world.
Likewise, without the development of language from a pool of amorphous sensations in our brain we
cannot begin to approach creativity. Words and how they are used become tools to chisel meaning
from undefined emotion. This process of making creative order out of chaos begins with the child s
sense of wonder and curiosity. The relationship between wonder, imagination and space is a complex
one, even a poetic one. We begin life in a pre verbal paradisiacal state. With the acquisition of
language comes a separation akin to the fall, resulting in melancholy and a desire to return to this
preverbal bliss. Through a close examination of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
we can explore universal grammatical structures, using linguistic techniques and other literary devices
to show these connections and how they inspire wonder in children.
II. Exposition: The Wondrous Landscape A. Definition of Wonder and Imagination
But how do we define wonder and how is it related to imagination ? Moreover what have these two
concepts to do with language and ultimately the power to inspire children to be creative? The Oxford
English Dictionary uses words like astonishment,

A Unique And Refreshing Adventure
Dope A Unique and Refreshing Adventure ( Movie Review) Dope, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, is a
coming of age story that pays homage to 90s vintage ghetto dramas and destroys all stereotypes of a
teenager coming from the hood. The character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore), whose entire style, from
his classic high top hair cut to his 90s fashioned clothing and shoes, conveys an obsession with hip
hop s golden age, which for Malcolm continued until 2001. This movie expresses two sides of a geeky
high school teenager growing up in the tough parts of Inglewood and having interests and hobbies that
are not typically seen in a tough urban movie. It also shows counterstereotypic situations that usually
would not be depicted with these characters. Rick Famuyiwa s Movie, Dope, first breaks down the
conformality of society and the way people think, then place the broken pieces together in a way to
make the audience see life in different perspectives which, honestly, makes this movie unlike any
other 90s based movie that we have all come to know as repetitive. The movie s first few seconds is
one that gives an overview of what is to come throughout the movie. It starts off with several
definitions of dope, those being someone who is portrayed as unintelligent, an illegal substance, and
an American slang that can be closely related to the term cool. All three powerful definitions expresses
something edgy about the movie. For instance, the main climax of the movie is about Malcolm and his

Oresteia Revenge Quotes
Throughout The Oresteia, the themes of justice and revenge are often used as reasoning for certain
events that take place. In many instances, the characters refer to certain events as revenge, while
others see them as justice. For example, Clytemnestra kills her wife in pursuit of justice, and can be
displayed as just due to her motives and reasoning. Orestes killing of Clytemnestra may be viewed as
just in his eyes, but in reality, is revenge. In The Oresteia, revenge, often portrayed as a selfish act,
regards experiencing a spiteful joy caused by retaliation, while justice is displayed primarily as a
rational decision, rather than an emotional one. Orestes, Agamemnon s father, kills his mother

act, and selfishness cannot be justified. However, justice is rational and complete in fairness. For
example, ending one s life should result in the end of the killer s life. In the killing of Agamemnon,
Clytemnestra avenges her daughter Iphigenia by killing Agamemnon. Her decision isn t based on her
emotional state, but rather she is in pursuit of justice. However, she states that justice and revenge are
separate ideas. This true because justice is moral fairness and revenge is experiencing happiness in

Persuasive Essay About Golden Retriever
Sometimes, life doesn t quite turn out the way you want it to, no matter how hard you try, so you have
to learn to roll with the punches. That was how I felt when, in the summer of 2016, my mom decided
we would be getting a dog. For the longest time, my sister had been for getting a dog, and this news
delighted her to no end. They thought a Golden Retriever would be the best dog for us. I, however,
was not with them on the idea. I wanted to spend my time doing things that I wanted to do, not
looking after a dog. I knew a dog would be a lot of responsibility.
Despite my objections, we visited a breeder who had a litter of Golden Retriever puppies. We chose
one during that visit, and we named her Karma. All summer, my sister and I had to ... Show more

I constantly feared the worst case scenario: death. That feeling I had, it was something I wouldn t wish
upon anyone. My heart ached, hoping and praying for the best. Monday, we went to visit her, and she
looked awful. She couldn t even stand. Something in my mind told me she wasn t going to make it. I
tried to fight that feeling, but once we were home, I collapsed on my bead and burst into tears. I
couldn t shake the feeling she was going to die. It was the one time I wished for me to be wrong.
Unfortunately, I wasn t. Tuesday, she ended up passing away while being transported to an emergency
animal treatment center.
I found out Tuesday after school. My mom brought my sister and I into her room and made the
announcement. They were both clearly devastated. I myself shed no tears until I was in the safety of
my own room. All I felt was hate, resentment, fear, and devastation. Out of everything that could have
happened, why did she have to go? I continued to ask myself that one question over and over. I felt
like it was partially my fault. I questioned if I had done something that would have led to this. We sent
her away to find out what had caused her death. They found nothing, and assumed it was a
neurological problem.
Even now, I look back and wish I had spent more time with Karma and showed her more love. It wasn
t that I hated Karma. I just hated having to take care of her. I would have much rather been in my
room doing other things, but

Teagle 170 P.3d 266 (Ariz. Ct. App. 2007), defendant Teagle was pulled over after being observed
speeding down the highway. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed two cellular phones
on the dashboard, an open container of liquor, fast food wrappers, a box of cookies, a map, and
luggage and clothing in the backseat. The officer gave the defendant a warning and then asked him if
there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a chance anyone else could have placed
any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant answered in the negative, the officer returned to
his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine unit available. There was not and so the officer told
the defendant that he was free to leave. Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding
once again down the road. The officer proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The
officer again asked him if he could search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative.
The officer called a canine unit which arrived an hour later. The canine, in proceeding to do an
exterior sniff, circled around to the trunk. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of
marijuana, a can of air freshener under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the
compartment ofthe vehicle as well as the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the
smell of marijuana. At trial, the defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop,
implying that someone else had placed the drugs in the car. The court found that there was enough
evidence, including the large amount of drugs in the trunk of the vehicle, the air freshener, and the
inconsistent statements to determine that the defendant had sufficient knowledge of the marijuana in

Land Grant Universities
Introduction
The colleges and universities established in all states by the first Morrill Act in 1862 and the second
Morrill Act in 1890 are land grant institutions (Sherwood, 2004). The original mission of the land
grant universities institutions is To teach such branches of learning as are related to agriculture and the
mechanic, and arts, in such manner as the legislatures of the states may respectively prescribe, in order
to promote the liberal and practical education of the industrial classes in the several pursuits and
professions in life, (Shiplett et al., 2011, p. 84).
Today, the land grant institutions continue to provide equitable access to education and develop
innovations that continue to strengthen the US. Land grant universities ... Show more content on

which include budget related financial issues and the small number of agriculture student enrollment.
The financial issue drove some land grant universities to increase the tuitions and fees on their

The Negative Effects Of Ocean Acidification
Ocean Acidification is an incredibly important topic that has not been addressed toughly by
mainstream media. It is causing ocean warming, mass extinction of fish species, coral bleaching,
phylogenic changes in ocean populations, and many more negative consequences. I did my senior
project on coral bleaching due to ocean acidification and there has been little new information on the
subject, in the public sector, since then. According to a study done in 2016 a strong link between
seawater pH and coral calcification is supported by data the pH of the coral calcifying fluid (CCF) is
elevated relative to the surrounding seawater pH, and that acidification of the surrounding seawater
causes a reduction in pH of the CCF (Edmunds et al., 2016). The Great Barrier Reef has been in crisis
for at least a couple decades because of severe coral bleaching and calcification. In the last couple
years, large sections of the reef have died because of changing environmental conditions. The situation
is similar in many of the coral reefs around the planet. Ocean Acidification will continue to have
monumental lasting negative effects on the environment unless drastic changes are made to the way
humanity is using our natural resources.
Ocean Acidification occurs when the ocean uptakes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the
resulting chemical reactions make the water more acidic. According to the NOAA When carbon
dioxide (CO2) is absorbed by seawater, chemical reactions occur that

Ethical Dilemmas In Social Work
Episode 24 Dr. Frederic Reamer: Ethical Dilemmas in Work: Trends and Challenges presented
professional ethical standards for social work in a contemporary setting. Dr. Reamer began by
identifying the Code s humble one page beginning which was confirmed in the 1960 s however, it was
seen as being very shallow. The reason being, it did not address all ethical dilemmas that existed or
would eventually exist within the field of social work. For example, the Code did not address ethical
dilemmas regarding client and their social worker s relationship, value issues, and electronic
communication between social worker and their clients, to name a few. The historical one page Code
entailed 17 principles which was later re developed by a team of experts ... Show more content on

Ethical dilemmas in work is often encountered however, instructions of how to handle the situation is
not always clear. As a social worker, I understand the code of ethics is designed to be used as a tool to
guide our professional behavior as it is necessary. Certainly, what becomes an ethical guideline today
may shift according to the times and dilemma. Dr. Richardson was an expert speaker in providing us
this insight. Furthermore as he mentioned value and duty sometimes clashes, I am reminded when

Benefits Of Helicopter Parenting
For most kids, moving to college is the first time they will be out of their parents house for a long
period of time. This opens them up to a lot of new experiences. Ideally, they should be ready to face
the new challenges living out of the house will bring. In some cases, the child will have an extremely
difficult time learning how to take care of themselves. The parents of the child play a huge role in
whether or not their child is ready for this step. When raising the child, they made the decision to
either let their child learn things on their own, or help them with every single task the child is
presented with. This has been a growing issue as time moves on. As helicopter parenting becomes
more common, it causes this reaction as stated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is when most parents would expect their children to become dependent and handle situations
alone, but this is not always the case. Washington Post writer, Amy Joyce, wrote How Helicopter
Parents are Ruining College Students , to explain mostly to parents why they need to let their child
handle problems in college on their own. Joyce explains that some parents even call the college
president when their child has some sort of issue going on. It is very common for a grown child to text
their parents to solve problems for them. This is becoming a growing concern as today s college
students are more attached to their parents. There are many people who believe that letting children
fail benefits them later in life. TV news reporter turned stay at home mom, Janie Porter, would like to
persuade others to not protect children from any consequences in life. Porter writes the article, Dear
Parents, Stop Rescuing Your Kids From Failure , to share how she raises her family and how it is
working for her. Porter firmly believes that children need to fall down and get hurt so they can get
back up. Her parents let her learn from her mistakes and she believed it worked so well it is the way

How Is Wordsworth Influenced By William Wordsworth
Wordsworth is an high English poet and an establishing member of the Romantic Movement in the
English literature. He lived and wrote at the period between 1770 1850 which is the golden era of
romanticism . Like other Romantics, Wordsworth poetry and personality also were greatly influenced
by his love for the nature, especially by the spectacles and views of the Lake Country area, where he
spent most of his life in nature. Wordsworth is sincere thinker; he showed high tenderness and a love
of nature and simplicity. Two persons affected him personally and literary, his sister Dorothy and the
great romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. William Wordsworth s poem I wondered lonely as a
cloud or the Daffodil is one of the most well known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It says that even when you are by yourself and lonely and missing your friends, you can use your
imagination to fine new friends in the world around you. As John Milton famously wrote, The mind is
its own place, and in itself, can make heaven of Hell, and a hell of Heaven. The speaker of this poem
makes a heaven out of a windy day and a bunch of daffodils. His happiness does not last forever he s
not that unrealistic but the daffodils give him a little boost of joy whenever he needs it, like recharging
his batteries. In conclusion, William Wordsworth is one of the best romantic poets; actually he
established the romanticism in the English literature. Now, we can say that the poem I Wandered
Lonely as a Cloud is the pest representation of romantic poetry. It contains most of the characteristics
of good romantic poetry. Such characteristics as subjectivity, the love of nature, love of beauty, and
joyful memories of the past. In addition, Wordsworth was influenced by his Sister Dorothy who
inspired him to write many of his poems. We can always find a source for William s

Romantic poetry conjures in the mind of many people images of sweet, pastoral landscapes populated
by picturesque citizens who live in quaint houses in rustic villages, with sheep grazing on green
swathed hills, while a young swain plights his troth to his fair young maiden, who reclines demurely
amidst the clover and smiles sunnily. William Wordsworth is perhaps the archetypal Romantic poet;

by natural piety (line 9); not does wish or even simply wishes , but could wish , which implies not
only desire but envy. Does the speaker himself believe the affirmations he has made in the first six
lines?
As always with Wordsworth, the poem is not about what it seems at first glance. The child is father to
the man (line 7) is true in a basic sense: everything the man is comes from what the child was. A child
has natural, or unforced and hence automatic, piety; he must, simply because he has not yet acquired
the cultural baggage that modifies, cultivates and un naturalizes his being. Growing up is the process
of socialization the gaining of prejudices that block out unnecessary or extraneous thoughts, feelings
and images. Eventually enough prejudices are acquired that a reader can say Isn t that nice? , wipe
away a crocodile tear, and dismiss a poem that might be disturbing. The child, having not yet acquired
these prejudices, is closer to the fonts of meaning and truth; the child finds easily, even carelessly,
what the adult, by growing up, has lost forever. And here is the envy mentioned above almost a
resentment.
This resentment is evident in other of Wordsworth s works. In We Are Seven , for example, a young
girl maintains that there are seven children in her family, although two are dead; the narrator tries
insistently almost stridently to convince her that, with two dead, her parents have only five children.

Behind The Eucharist
For teenagers, active participation in the Eucharist can be a meaningful, purposeful and conscious
experience. In order for this to occur it is important that people of all ages understand the meaning
behind the Eucharist.
The Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is a rite and is considered by the majority of Christian churches
to be a sacrament. The New Testament asserts that during the Last Supper, Jesus Christ gave his
disciples bread and wine during the Passover meal, and asked his followers to do this in memory of
me . During this meal, Jesus Christ referred to the bread as my body and the wine as my blood .
Therefore, communion or the Eucharistic celebration, asks Catholic Christians to recall and give
thanks for Christ s sacrifice of himself. The Catholic faith teaches that once sacred the bread and ...

1). For this reason, people of Catholic faith place significant importance on Eucharist, as it is a
defining concept of Catholicism, and a highly visible and tangible way in which to celebrate and give
thanks to Christ.
Ancient and contemporary approaches to Eucharist share similarities and differences. While early
Eucharist s were masses in people s homes or small communities, and always involved a gathering,
storytelling and a meal, the more elaborate ceremonies celebrated in contemporary Catholic
communities developed long after (Harker and Phipps 2001, p. 347). In earlier times, and after the
Last supper when Christ revealed himself in the breaking of the bread to two disciples (Luke 24:13 35,
cited in The Eucharist Word Press, n.d.), it is thought that perhaps Christ was teaching them that to
partake in a meal in memory of him, he was teaching them that he would be with them as the Risen
One (The Eucharist Word Press, n.d.). These simple celebrations and acts of remembering served as
the basis for the more elaborate rites in contemporary Catholic practice. These include an introduction,
opening prayer,

Let us start with a brief overview of Electromagnetic Radiation ;
Radiant energy released by certain electromagnetic processes is Electromagnetic Radiation. It is
radiant energy that is all around us and takes many forms whether it be visible, such as, visible light,
or invisible electromagnetic radiations, such as radio waves, infrared light, sunlight, and x rays.
Electromagnetic radiation covers a large spectrum of wavelengths, these waves of radiant energy have
different usage according to their energy, in example; the rays from the sun, sunlight is vital to life on
earth, radio waves allow us to communicate, microwaves allow us to cook our foods, infrared
radiation provides us with warmth/heat, visible light illuminate and is also used essentially for growth
of our trees, flowers, and the many foods we grow on earth, ultraviolet rays, which also comes from
the sun, provide us with Vitamin D which is vital for our bones, and x rays are used for medical
diagnostic such as diagnosing a fractured or broken bone or pathology, it is also used in airports to
check our luggage and help us be safe onboard to our paradise destinations. Gamma rays are used in
the medical field to sterilize surgical equipments, it is also used to sterilize baby nipples, and cosmetic
products, just to name a few; And for the past 60 years or so, the combination of Radiation, Cobalt 60,

Effective Followers
Effective Followers Effective followers are a key component to the success of an organization. Some
characteristics that make up an effective follower are ambition, enthusiasm, intelligence, selflessness,
and self reliance. These five characteristics are all desirable traits that form an immaculate effective
follower. A faultless company is the result of effective followers being hired on to a company. A strong
leader is also required as they would help the efficiency and success of a company. Although, it is the
effective followers that are the key components to the success and progress of a business. Effective
followers push forward the development of a corporation and are the backbone to any successful
business. The first characteristic that makes up an effective follower is ambition. An ambitious
individual is determined to work hard in order to achieve success. Many people have intellect but they
lack ambition. Intellect without ambition is like a fire without a flame. Have you ever tried to drive a
vehicle without an engine? Ambition is the engine to a vehicle like an effective employee is the engine
to a company. Without the engine there is no drive to get work complete. For instance, a company

Zebrafish Synthesis
Abstract
Oxygen is essential for human life, but an excess of oxygen could easily become toxic and have an
adverse effects on the mammalian brain due to excessive formation of reactive oxygen species,
commonly known as ROS. In previous studies, changes in hippocampal DNA material have been
observed in validated animal models of PTSD (Chertkow Deutsher, Cohen, Klein, Ben Shachar,
2010). These changes in the genome may very well be the underlying cause of long term traumatic
memories. Previous studies conducted at Texas A M University Commerce used zebrafish as a model
for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), however, the results not only proved that zebrafish show
symptoms of PTSD, but in fact we observed modification in the neural progenitor cells around the
hippocampal area of the zebrafish brain. High concentrations of ROS can be the reason behind the
modification of the neural cells. Therefore, the importance of this study is to investigate the molecular
pathways of ROS in the zebrafish brain. We hypothesize that using an antioxidant, N acetyl L cysteine
(NAC) could reduce the concentrations of trauma induced ROS, which would ultimately prevent the
modifications in the neural progenitor cells in zebrafish.

England and France are neighboring countries that have distinctive policing styles. Both countries put

When a criminal was caught trying to flee, everyone within the society fled after him or her while

This is England
This Is England
While watching the movie This is England as the other , I was able to experience a culture that was
socially, culturally, politically, and ethically different from that of my own. It was interesting to see a
story unfold through the perspective of a young boy named Shaun. The director showed Shaun s
experiences dealing with serious issues England was facing at the time such as racism, gangs,
immigration, and unemployment. Losing his father at an early age, Shaun lacked an older figure to
guide him towards the right path which ultimately causes him to join a gang called the Skinheads.
Based on the movie, gangs seem to be one of the major problems within England s social economic
political system. At first the gang Shaun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Of course, if one grew up in England and was raised to believe that whites were superior to all races
then that would be the social norm. If one was born in America, he or she would grow up to believe
that all humans were created equal no matter what race you were. This is evident through the
perspective of the main character of the movie. Shaun grew up without a father figure to teach him
about ethics and morals. Shaun becomes more attracted towards Combo s strong character as the
movie progresses. Consequently, Combo eventually brainwashes the young boy and made him believe
that everyone in England who was not white caused a major problem in society. However, I strongly
believe that racism only causes more problems. Living in America the land of equal opportunity for all
twenty one years of my life I have never experienced any major problems just because whites and
other minorities settled and lived in the same area. Everyone was created equal no matter where you
came from. Although I may find it particularly odd to see another person hate someone because of
their cultural background, I understand that I am only observing the situation as the other . What may

Analysis Of The Of Ragtime
Socialism in America
E3 Argumentative essay
Sonia Rani
3/17/2017
Ragtime is an interesting depiction of cultural and political change. It can be argued that the story is
not just a reflection of the events in the 20th Century but the novel reflects the events that continue to
happen until today in socialism. For instance, the novel gives a glimpse of the kind of life experienced
by many African Americans. They were victimized by the society and the persons in authority refuse
to help them. Even in the 21st Century, it cannot be denied that African Americans are still subjected
to discrimination in socialism. Throughout the stories in this novel character represent that change and
partiality. Because of the massive development, there was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But he proves himself a good example of socialism as socialist. In Ragtime, historical elements like E.
Zapata, Emma Goldman, Coalhouse, mother s younger brother, Tateh and district attorney reveals as a
political example.
In socialism, the state also has a character of the class, but its content is opposed to that of the
bourgeois state: it becomes, for the first time in history, a state of the clear majority exploited against
the tiny exploitative or privileged minority (Rozman, 2014). Rozman (2014) explains that
Conversions to traditional socialism became more evident after World War II, with the Cold War and
later with the disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. So, as Ragtime, because it was
written in about 20th century. Since then, socialist regimes have been adopting more flexible stances.
Real socialism is developed socialism during the twentieth century. Currently, the socialist countries
are Cuba, China, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam. Ragtime also depicts politics between relationship,
at court, as a victim, and attacking people for the sake of justice. On the other hand, ideal socialism is
that developed in the nineteenth century, the main thinker of socialism was Karl Marx, for him this
regime arose from capitalism and its means of production, having its control played by the proletarian,
as well as the state, which would later be extinguished, giving rise to communism that corresponds to

Rape Is A Serious Problem
Only rapists know when they will strike their prey with sexual assault. The victims, both men and
women, never see themselves in such a situation. But, what if both the victim and rapist are equally to
blame in that situation? What if women could be able to and should do everything they can to prevent
being raped? Is it possible that victims are not doing everything they can to prevent rape or defend
themselves when they are being violated? The argument of to whom the fault actually belongs to has
been a long occurring ordeal that perhaps may never be resolved. Rape is a serious problem, which is
why it is one of the most highly debated topics in today s society and media. Many actors and
actresses have spoken out against rape, some are even victims. There has also been a growing amount
of concern towards women expressed by many anonymous Twitter accounts. Those accounts have
helped make teenagers and other social network users more aware of rape culture.
According to the Marshall University Women s Center, rape culture is an environment in which rape is
prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and
popular culture ( Women s Center marshall.edu page 1). Women believe that rape culture is
emphasized through arrogant language, women being objectified by men, the overuse of television
sexual violence, and teaching the victims not to be raped instead of teaching the rapist not to rape.

Cloning as Solution to Food Shortages and Needs for New...
With food shortages and needs for new medicine, research, and cures, it s hard to think that there
could ever be a solution to these issues. Cloning could be one of the many solutions to the problems
that are afflicting the world as we know it. But that has many people wondering what exactly cloning
is, and, more importantly why people do it. Knowing what cloning is, why people do it, and other
opinions and feelings about cloning could help us solve these issues. To clone means to create a
genetic copy of another organism. Cloning depends on there being two cells, one of a female s egg,
and one from an adult that is intended to be cloned. (Wilmut) There are also a variety of specific types
of cloning, but two main general types: reproductive and non reproductive, also called nuclear
transplantation or therapeutic cloning. ( Cloning ) Nuclear transplantation creates clones in a different
way than reproductive cloning does. Nuclear transplantation starts when the cell is taken from the
adult, which contains the genome of the organism that is wanted to be cloned. (Cloning: Frequently)
An egg is then taken from a female, the nucleus removed, and the cell from the adult is placed into the
female s egg. These two eggs are fused together with an electric current. (Weiss) This causes the egg s
DNA to become that of the subject s egg. (Cloning: Frequently) The egg is then placed into a test tube
and allowed to split there before being placed into the surrogate. ( Cloning )

Examples Of Naturalism In Sister Carrie
Analysis of naturalism in Sister Carrie
Naturalism emerged in the mid of the 19th century in America as an outgrowth of realism. It was
inspired by Charles Darwin s theory of evolution. Naturalism stresses the idea that any individual has
a predetermined destiny influenced by social factors and that one s character is formed on the basis of
heredity. One s life is governed by environment and heredity which can t be controlled by anyone.
Sister Carrie is a novel describing the harsh realities of the American people in an era of urban
consumerism which defined that period. Dreiser chose to name his novel Sister Carrie because he was
inspired by the events which occurred in his own sister s life.
The main character of this novel, Carrie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Judy And John The New Zealand
Judy and John , the New Zealand
Woman s Weekly s ideal engaged couple, were preparing for married life and building a house in
1954.
Judy was the expert on the kitchen, the laundry, the decorating and the cleaning , and she was not to
worry her head about the garden, the exterior, the lighting or the roof, as these were John s concerns.
Judy intended to work during the first two years of marriage so they can buy extras like the
refrigerator, washing machine, floor polisher, good radiogram and vacuum cleaner, in that order .1
As Judy s expectations and aspirations show, cleaning routines occupied a considerable amount of
women s time in the 1950s and 1960s.
Indeed, new products and applicances, as well as their greater availabilty, encouraged greater attention
than ever to these chores. Consumer demand was insatiable though home scientist Norah Holland
noted that women with young children demanded modern conveniences, while older women
sometimes thought that the purchase of new equipment was unnecessary.2 By 1949, New Zealand
company Fisher Paykel was producing 600 washing machines, 500 refrigerators and 700 vacuum
cleaners each month, and struggled to fill orders.3 Demand was able to be satisfied only when import
controls were relaxed in 1953. For the next five years, the sale of household items boomed. Washing
machines and refrigerators went from being luxuries to items that were purchased at the same time as
the house, with the costs of payment included on

CHAPTER 3
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION SYSTEM
3.1 FABRICATION PROCESS OF BIMETALLIC PISTON
Figure 3.1 Bimetallic Piston
3.2 CATALYST
The rate of chemical reaction increases with the presence of a substance called as catalyst.
3.3 TYPICAL MECHANISM
In catalyst regenerating process, it generally reacts with one or more than one reactants to form
intermediate product which then gives the final reaction product.
X + C → XC (1)
Y + XC → XYC (2)
XYC → CZ (3)
CZ → C + Z (4) This represents a typical reaction scheme, where C Catalyst X and Y Reactants Z
Product of the reaction of X and Y
In reaction 1 the catalyst is consumed even though in reaction 4 it is subsequently produced, so it does
not occur in the overall reaction equation:
X + Y → Z
3.4 MATERIALS
As catalysis the chemical nature of catalysts is also diverse. For the many reactions involving water,
including hydrolysis and its reverse, the most widely used catalysts is proton acids. Multifunctional
solids often are catalytically active.
e.g. alumina, zeolites, graphitic carbon, nanoparticles, nanodots, higher order oxides, and facets of
bulk materials.
To catalyze redoxreactions like oxidation and hydrogenation, transition metals are often used. For
example nickel such as Raney nickel for hydrogenation, and vanadium (V) oxide for oxidation of
sulfur dioxide into sulfur trioxide by the so called contact process. Palladium, platinum, gold,
ruthenium, rhodium, or iridium is

Descriptive Essay On Rockefeller Chapel
Rockefeller Chapel is an enormous space neither religious nor secular, but teetering on the rims of
both in its uses as a prayer hall, concert space, and location for the College s convocation ceremony.
On April 22nd, 2017, the chapel is used as a divine space, bringing two religions, two cultures, and
numerous ethnicities together in A Meeting of Two Seas, a concert celebrating the contributions of
Hindus and Muslims to the arts of South Asia. As a performer, I enter Rockefeller Chapel through its
West Entrance, two hours before the concert begins for a quick rehearsal and sound check I am an
insider, not only as a Carnatic vocalist, but as a Hindu, who has observed the rifts between Hindus and
Muslims, which have lasted seemingly through antiquity. Through the concert, I hope to observe a
beautiful amalgamation of these two religions and cultures and possibly, see the rifts begin to subside.
Before guests begin to usher in, I take a seat in the front row next to my friends and fellow performers
and prepare to take notes for my sketch. My friends giggle and chatter about their daily struggles,
tuning out the sitar music playing softly in the background, but I tell them to quiet down so that I can
pay attention during the concert. After a brief introduction from co hosts Nikhil and Nur Banu, Minu

reason she volunteered is because she knew her sister didn t have a chance in the hunger games. The

The reason it is love is because the author wrote that katniss is the girl who cannot love. The only
thing katniss has done was spent her whole life just trying to survive because of that she does not
really get attached to people. But of course there s one boy named Gale that she kinda likes. Then
there s peeta who she s just pretending to be in love with for the games. In the hunger games romance
can be a really great way to survive. By kissing her co tribute Peeta, katniss was able to score support
and gifts from her sponsors. None of this helps katniss figure out who she really is though. Something
that everything deals with is death. It is not an unknown topic to all families it happens every day. In
the hunger games there can only be one survivor. That means everyone else has to die. In their death is
sad or sometimes is good for their benefit. But in real life it is sad. In the story Katniss has to deal with
death all around her. A cannon goes off each time someone dies so katniss had death go on all around
her. She also had to kill people too and get close to getting killed but luckily survived. She wanted to
survive as well she also wanted peeta to survive.

How can Art be Defined
The search for a definition of Art has been subject of a complex philosophical reflection incorporated;
however, within different thematics because the very idea of Art is changeable as it relies on the
culture and the tradition of a particular epoch.
Etymologically, the word Aesthetics derives from the Greek àisthesis, which means perception by the
senses. It used to refer as the study of the world of perceptions as the doctrine aimed to discover the
complexity of perceptive knowledge.
In ancient times, the concept of Art was closely related to the practice with the technique which Plato
argued were, certainly, not positive.
According to the philosopher, Art and Tragedy are copies of copies, the copies of the sensible world.
He argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faced with the difficulties encountered by the circularity of the Institutional theory, some theoreticians
have tried to develop some definitions based on the relational properties of art, changing the terms of
the essential relationships between its properties.
On this terms, a very interesting approach has been suggested by Levinson (1979), who is committed
to the development of a definition in which the Art is identified through the relationship with history.
Levinson (1979) argues that an object is a work of art if it has been created to be perceived and
evaluated in the same way that previous and recognized works of art have been received and
evaluated. In other words, what is art today resembles the continuing relationship which justifies the
attribution of the status of Artwork.
His theory, known as the Historical Intentional, is halfway between the Institutional and the other
traditional Aesthetics definitions.
Levinson s proposal differs significantly from that of Dickie (1974), and the difference lies in the
recovery of a real contact with our relationship with history and with the Artworks.
Even though I truly appreciate the effort of philosophers in trying to identify a generic definition, I
assume that there is not a unique definition of Art, this word is far too complex and matter of
subjectivity, and I believe that it is not necessary to incorporate the universal in the particular.
Art is generally the perception of beauty, but

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) Essay
Prion diseases or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a family of rare progressive
neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. They are distinguished by long
incubation periods, characteristic spongiform changes associated with neuronal loss, and a failure to
induce inflammatory response. The proteinaceous infectious particles, prion was identified by an
American neurologist Stanley B. Prusiner and colleagues in 1982derived from the words protein and
infection (Stanley B. Prusiner Autobiography). Prions are known to Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD),

Moreover, different anti PrP antibodies or their antigen binding fragments that disrupt the PrP Aβ
interaction were able to block the Aβ mediated disruption of synaptic plasticity. These findings were
deemed exciting because they suggest the involvement of PrPC in Alzheimer s disease (AD)
pathogenesis. However, others found that the absence of PrPC did not prevent deficits in hippocampal
dependent behavioral tests upon intracerebral Aβ injection (Krull Nunnally, 2004).
PrPSc is identified as a surrogate marker and potential TSE agent. PrPSc formation was first detected
in the murine neuroblastoma cell line N2a when exposed to mouse adapted scrapie (Abbott,
2010).Subsequent infection experiments demonstrated susceptibility of N2a cells to several different
mouse adapted scrapie strains. Since then, several cell lines of neuronal and non neuronal origin have
been identified to be susceptible to a stable infection with prions. Once prions have successfully
infected a cell line, they can replicate persistently over multiple cell passages, with very few
exceptions, without any overt cytopathic effect (Shorter J, Lindquist S (June 2005). Cell lines that
have been successfully infected include microglial cells as well as epithelial cells, fibroblasts and
myoblasts, which have all been demonstrated to persistently replicate an array of prion strains in vitro.

Domestic Violence Against Men By Suzanne Steinmetz
The earliest literature reference to domestic violence against men can be found in the studies of
Suzanne Steinmetz (1977,1978) entitled, The Battered Husband Syndrome. She hypothesizes that the
incidents of husband on wife beatings rivals the incidents of wife perpetrated batterings, and that it
was husband abuse not wife abuse that was underreported form of domestic violence. Steinmetz used
two United States populations, a broadband nonrepresentative group and a random sample in New
Castle, Delaware in the form of police reports and family surveys. The small study found only small
differences in the percent of men and women who resorted to violence in the context of pushing,
shoving, or hitting with hands or an object. This suggested early on that domestic violence is not a one
way street. Husband beating is a serious issue and needs attention due to the fact that it is grossly
underreported. Steinmetz received numerous criticism from her colleagues on this concept. In later
studies, Murray Straus, Richard Gelles, and Suzanne Steinmetz (1980), authors of the book, Behind
Closed Doors: Violence in The American Family, supports Steinmetz s earlier studies in finding that
women acted violently during marital affairs compared to a similar number of men who act violently
in the United States. The study used 2,413 family surveys, finding in majority of them that the level of
violence was a mutual or bilateral activity, with only 27% of cases finding that husbands were the

Marxist Literary Criticism Essay
While literary critics do attempt to elaborate or develop ideas articulated by Karl Marx, it is important
and necessary to make a distinction between Marx s specific socio economic and political agenda and
the body of literary theory which emerged years later. Marxist literary criticism proceeds from the
fundamental philosophical assumption that consciousness can never be anything else than conscious
existence...Life is not determined by consciousness, but consciousness by life (Marx 568 9). Marxist
critics use this challenge to the notion of an innate, prefigured, individual human nature to reexamine
the nature of creative or literary authority.

Though such institutions are capable of reaffirming certain statements of power, hegemony itself is, as
Raymond Williams states, a whole body of practices and expectations...our ordinary understanding of
the nature of man and his world...a sense of reality...a sense of absolute (4).
While Marxist critics must admit that they themselves are helpless to avoid the effects of hegemony,
the critical project of Marxist literary criticism remains steadfastly committed to the attempt to
identify and understand the mediating contexts in which the forces of hegemony exert pressure on a
text, its author, and its audience. These contexts manifest themselves within specific historical,
economic, political, cultural, etc... conditions. In order to discover such contexts, a work of art cannot
be uprooted from the specific temporal circumstances in which it is read or created and regarded as an
isolated purely original entity. Literature, for better or worse, is mired in history.
Marxist literary criticism remains a very rational, pragmatic endeavor at its core. If ideology were
merely some abstract set of notions...society would be very much easier to move and change than in
practice it has ever been or is (Williams 3). Though aware of their own inability to comment from
outside the bounds of hegemony, Marxist critics seem to express a tacit hope that by providing

From my opinion Jonathan Kozol would say to Gladwell about Marita needed to go to the KIPP
School cause of she needs to get a better education system who comes from low income and
uneducated family background. To be a success of a student firstly he or she needs a big support from
school. KIPP is that kind of school where students can learn feel free. They take care of their students
specially who are weak in reading, writing and mathematics. KIPP shows students correct path and
dedicate their knowledge, time to give them a better education by shortened summer vacation become
success of a student in his student life to get a better educate. Marita s mom was like that parent who
asked everyday her daughter after coming back from school.
Would be Kozol knew it that s why he recommended Marita needs to go to KIPP for a better educate.
On the other hand I would like to say from my concept about according to Prudence L. Carter would
say to Malcolm Gladwell that Marita needed to go to KIPP school and to shed parts of her cultural
identity because the KIPP is stablished in the poor neighborhood and most of the students are from the
same neighborhood who are poor as well by so many ways. As like as low income family, single

My Experiences With Disability And Disability
My Experiences with Disability
Introduction...
Disability is prominent in our society and it is important that we live and work in communities that are
inclusive to those with limitations, and provide necessary supports to them. As a young adult I have
learned and experienced more about disability than when I was younger. I have gained the most
knowledge about disability through university classes, but there have also been times growing up
where I encountered individuals with various disabilities, either through sports or school. Before I
learned about disability and was aware of inclusive and accessible spaces, it was not something I spent
much time thinking or asking questions about. Once I was educated on what it means to have a ...

In this regard, it is beneficial for a child to receive education on what it means for a person to have a
disability and how others can respond appropriately and not with fear or negatively. To explain
disability, it is important to consider 3 different definitions, disability, impairment and handicap. As
well, when teaching younger kids about disability it would be beneficial if they were taught how to be
accepting of those who act, look or talk differently than they do. On the other hand, a child may not
recognize a PWD to be physically or mentally different from them, therefore they would continue to
treat them as everyone else. This mind set is helpful when thinking about disability, because whether
or not you perceive someone to have a different functioning level than you, it is vital to treat them
with the same respect as everyone else.
As I grew up I continued to have more interactions with PWD as well as ask more questions about the
concept of disability. I remember participating in recreational sports with other kids that had
differences, such as a child with a cochlear implant, or a child with an intellectual disability. I never
remembered these kids being discriminated against or excluded in games, but I also was not overly
attentive to how others treated them, or the differences in their playing ability. Other experiences I had
with kids with disability, includes one young girl who went to my elementary school,

Describe the economic, social and political importance of water in the historical narrative from 1500
through the 1790 s. Introduction The use of water in the history of the United States impacted the
everyday life of the various inhabitants presents during the vast period from early 16 century to the
1790 s. Before the colonist and settlers ever migrated to this region, the natives who were the Indians
were able to grow a few crops and conduct regular fishing as part of their diet. Upon the arrival of the
white people, they were able to trade with them in exchange for their products like kitchenware and

Ships were important in the growth of the fishing industry, and the growth of one led to the growth of
the other (Foner, VOF, 50). Coastal towns also grew as people settled on the banks to provide
employment as well as gain from the expansive world. The ship making industry was support by the
availability of trees and forests which provided ship making materials. Some of these were transported
by the waterways such as rivers and all the way down to the coast. With the increase in the number of
ships came more traffic and more globe trotting. This also enhanced international trade and especially
the Transatlantic Triangular Trade. This is where the three continents, Europe went to Africa to get
slaves who would work on the plantations in America from where the Europeans would carry the raw
materials back home which would be manufactured into finished goods. This also helps in explain the
last usage of waterways and bodies and their economic effect. In the transport industry, before the
railroads came, people used water bodies to transport heavy and large cargo. Water bodies were the
only linkage between continents and specifically, these three that traded in the Atlantic Ocean. This
interconnectivity is even what led to the discovery of the Americas by the first person from the West.
It is self evident that ships have a huge capacity that the human caravans of beasts of burdens. Ships,

Portrait of a Lady
First written in the 1880s and extensively revised in 1908, The Portrait of a Lady is often considered
to be James s greatest achievement. In it, he explored many of his most characteristic themes,
including the conflict between American individualism and European social custom and the situation
of Americans in Europe. James proclaimed that The only reason for the existence of a novel is that it
does attempt to represent reality. Plot was for him but the extension of character. The novel must show
rather than tell he was interested in why people did as they did, rather than simply in what they did;
motive was more important than deed. The observer of the dinner table and the drawing room, the
country house and the salon, the library ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the narrative technique did not allow for it. So in the end The portrait of the Lady is finally not a
modernist novel. There is no such a thing yet as the autonomy of the character; truly an exploration of
a character s psychological frame or mind, options. In a way Isabel remains emplotted by James. Like
most of James s fiction of the 1870s, and the majority of his writing for the rest of his career, Portrait
focuses on a group of expatriate Americans in England and Europe. Leisured, cultured, but just a bit
bored, Daniel Touchett and his son Ralph are idly passing their time at Daniel s country estate,
Gardencourt, but find themselves reenergized when Daniel s all but estranged wife, Lydia, brings with
her to England her niece, a beautiful and enthusiastic orphan named Isabel Archer. Isabel is everything
these men are not: lively, enthusiastic, and alert, she is a less flirtatious, more thoughtful version of
Daisy Miller. But this American Girl, too, has the resistance to convention that both marks the type
and makes its fate so problematic; when her Aunt Lydia reproaches her for staying up late to talk to
Ralph and his friend, Lord Warburton, Isabel thanks her for informing her of the social prohibition but
claims that she wants this knowledge only so as to choose whether to follow it. Despite, or perhaps
because of, this very American insistence on freedom of choice, Isabel attracts one suitor after
another: first Lord Warburton; then

Case Report of Swap Spreads, 2010 Essay example
The article Swap Spreads:2010 talks about a financial abnormity that the 30 year swap spread has kept
negative since late 2008 for a long time, and an arbitrage opportunity based on the bet that LIBOR
would never fall below equivalent government bond interest rates.
Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or
why not?
The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest
payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. In
practice, the 3 month T bills are replaced by taking a rolling short position of repos daily and entering
into a 3 month OIS to receive floating and pay fixed (OIS rate) ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, although the article says that the LIBOR OIS spread is little changed, it cannot guarantee that
the spread won t be volatile in the 30 year time.
To sum up, the trade is feasible, but there are still some things that need to be concerned.
Question2: What would be the internal rate of return on the trade over 30 years?
Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the
notional amount is 1 billion US dollars.
The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120.
Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000
Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1/4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000
Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32%
Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of financial
institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates?
There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap
spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon.
So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now
think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very low in the long
end of swaps. The low liquidity is mainly driven by hedging of exotic derivatives.
Pension funds would be

We Are The Boys From Old Britannia Poetic Devices
Songs and song lyrics can take many different forms. Like poetry, they tend to use many different
literary elements to convey a story. While most songs don t necessarily have a rhyme scheme like
some poems, they do however use elements such as imagery, diction, and many more elements that
can be found in poetry. The four songs Rule Britannia , Land of Hope and Glory , Waltzing Matilda ,
and We are the Boys from old Florida demonstrate the use of poetic elements to tell a story. Out of all
of these songs, none are more poetic than Rule Britannia . This song uses great imagery, allowing the
audience to immerse themselves in a stunning picture of the illustrious nation of Great Britain. The

This can be seen in its emotion. Just like poetry, this song has an ability to create great emotion in
those who hear it and are familiar with its meaning. To someone who is apart of the Gator Nation, it

of their college days. It could also tie some thoughts into the Florida Ubiquity if the alumni has
relocated. For a current student, it can bring the emotion of pride in being apart of one of the best
universities in the nation. Also, it can remind that student of the tradition of locking arms and singing

uses a lot of imagery. It depicts the family of the Gator Nation in great light. It says, We are the boys

  • 2. Mark Twain Unconscious Plagiarism Mark Twain was a very talented man who did many great things in his time. Mark Twain was a writer and was very good at his writing too. He sold many books in his time and was also a good person. When he did something wrong, he knew he did and when he did something right, he didn t get full of himself or rude. Mark Twain was a man of honesty, he was very successful in his writing, and was a great author of stories. Mark Twain was a very honest man. In the writing piece written by Mark Twain, titled, Unconscious Plagiarism , it says, Perhaps I unconsciously stole the rest of the volume, too, for many people have told me that my book was pretty poetical one way or another. Well, of course, I wrote Doctor Holmes and told him I hadn t meant to steal and he wrote back and said in the kindest way that it was all right and no harm done; and added that he believed we all unconsciously worked over ideas gathered in reading and hearing, imagining they were original with ourselves. This was written because Mark Twain wrote something and a man told him that it was very similar to someone else s writing. The man showed him proof of it and Mark Twain realized that he had read poems written by another man before he had begun writing and accidentally stole this man s way of writing without realizing it. But after he realized this, he owned up to it and apologized for it. There are many examples but this is just one of the many that show you that Mark Twain was a very truthful person. ... • 3. Stars and Avatars Stars and Avatars Are video games useful? Do they serve any type of larger purpose other than providing entertainment through a screen? These are complex and multifaceted questions that require complex and multifaceted answers. Prior to answering these questions, I believe it is important for recognize that each gaming experience is different. There are many different types of games, people have different types of reactions to each game specifically, and there are different ways to play games. Just looking at the physical aspect of gaming, there are different consoles, controllers, viewing options, amounts of players that can play certain games, etc. My point here is gaming is a category of entertainment that, unlike watching a movie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A study done at Stanford in 1997 found that the games were extremely effective. Brown et. al (1997) found that diabetic children who played the Packy and Marlon game were four times less likely (77% decrease) to require urgent health care visits than those who played a different game. The conclusions here suggest that well designed video games can be highly appealing and motivating learning environments for players. In these virtual worlds, players have access to unlimited opportunities to rehearse skills, experience social support (between peers who also played the game as well as the game characters themselves), actively obtain and use information, and receive immediate feedback on their performance. Essentially it is a virtual world that allows for cognitive social learning to occur. Lieberman (2001) found that children who played Bronkie experienced a gain in asthma related self efficacy, while those who watched a 30 minute video tape about asthma self care experienced a decrease in self efficacy. The researchers believed this difference in self efficacy scores may have occurred because while the video tape presented a lot of how to information, it did not offer any opportunity for the children to practice using those skills. • 4. Between Wonder, Imagination And Space In A Midsummer s... In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Shakespeare tells us a poet s task is to transform things unknown to shapes that give to airy nothing a local habitation and a name, suggesting a defined context ( local habitation ) and words ( a name ) (5.1.65). Without a named place we live in a chaotic world. Likewise, without the development of language from a pool of amorphous sensations in our brain we cannot begin to approach creativity. Words and how they are used become tools to chisel meaning from undefined emotion. This process of making creative order out of chaos begins with the child s sense of wonder and curiosity. The relationship between wonder, imagination and space is a complex one, even a poetic one. We begin life in a pre verbal paradisiacal state. With the acquisition of language comes a separation akin to the fall, resulting in melancholy and a desire to return to this preverbal bliss. Through a close examination of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass we can explore universal grammatical structures, using linguistic techniques and other literary devices to show these connections and how they inspire wonder in children. II. Exposition: The Wondrous Landscape A. Definition of Wonder and Imagination But how do we define wonder and how is it related to imagination ? Moreover what have these two concepts to do with language and ultimately the power to inspire children to be creative? The Oxford English Dictionary uses words like astonishment, ... • 5. A Unique And Refreshing Adventure Dope A Unique and Refreshing Adventure ( Movie Review) Dope, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, is a coming of age story that pays homage to 90s vintage ghetto dramas and destroys all stereotypes of a teenager coming from the hood. The character, Malcolm (Shameik Moore), whose entire style, from his classic high top hair cut to his 90s fashioned clothing and shoes, conveys an obsession with hip hop s golden age, which for Malcolm continued until 2001. This movie expresses two sides of a geeky high school teenager growing up in the tough parts of Inglewood and having interests and hobbies that are not typically seen in a tough urban movie. It also shows counterstereotypic situations that usually would not be depicted with these characters. Rick Famuyiwa s Movie, Dope, first breaks down the conformality of society and the way people think, then place the broken pieces together in a way to make the audience see life in different perspectives which, honestly, makes this movie unlike any other 90s based movie that we have all come to know as repetitive. The movie s first few seconds is one that gives an overview of what is to come throughout the movie. It starts off with several definitions of dope, those being someone who is portrayed as unintelligent, an illegal substance, and an American slang that can be closely related to the term cool. All three powerful definitions expresses something edgy about the movie. For instance, the main climax of the movie is about Malcolm and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Oresteia Revenge Quotes Throughout The Oresteia, the themes of justice and revenge are often used as reasoning for certain events that take place. In many instances, the characters refer to certain events as revenge, while others see them as justice. Orestes killing of Clytemnestra may be viewed as just in his eyes, but in reality, is revenge. In The Oresteia, revenge, often portrayed as a selfish act, regards experiencing a spiteful joy caused by retaliation, while justice is displayed primarily as a rational decision, rather than an emotional one. • 7. Persuasive Essay About Golden Retriever Sometimes, life doesn t quite turn out the way you want it to, no matter how hard you try, so you have to learn to roll with the punches. That was how I felt when, in the summer of 2016, my mom decided we would be getting a dog. For the longest time, my sister had been for getting a dog, and this news delighted her to no end. They thought a Golden Retriever would be the best dog for us. I, however, was not with them on the idea. I wanted to spend my time doing things that I wanted to do, not looking after a dog. All I felt was hate, resentment, fear, and devastation. Out of everything that could have happened, why did she have to go? I continued to ask myself that one question over and over. I felt like it was partially my fault. I questioned if I had done something that would have led to this. We sent her away to find out what had caused her death. They found nothing, and assumed it was a neurological problem. Even now, I look back and wish I had spent more time with Karma and showed her more love. It wasn t that I hated Karma. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed two cellular phones on the dashboard, an open container of liquor, fast food wrappers, a box of cookies, a map, and luggage and clothing in the backseat. The officer gave the defendant a warning and then asked him if there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a chance anyone else could have placed any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant answered in the negative, the officer returned to his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine unit available. There was not and so the officer told the defendant that he was free to leave. Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding once again down the road. The officer proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The officer again asked him if he could search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative. The officer called a canine unit which arrived an hour later. The canine, in proceeding to do an exterior sniff, circled around to the trunk. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of marijuana, a can of air freshener under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the compartment ofthe vehicle as well as the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the smell of marijuana. At trial, the defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop, implying that someone else had placed the drugs in the car. The court found that there was enough evidence, including the large amount of drugs in the trunk of the vehicle, the air freshener, and the inconsistent statements to determine that the defendant had sufficient knowledge of the marijuana in the ... • 10. The Negative Effects Of Ocean Acidification Ocean Acidification is an incredibly important topic that has not been addressed toughly by mainstream media. It is causing ocean warming, mass extinction of fish species, coral bleaching, phylogenic changes in ocean populations, and many more negative consequences. I did my senior project on coral bleaching due to ocean acidification and there has been little new information on the subject, in the public sector, since then. According to a study done in 2016 a strong link between seawater pH and coral calcification is supported by data the pH of the coral calcifying fluid (CCF) is elevated relative to the surrounding seawater pH, and that acidification of the surrounding seawater causes a reduction in pH of the CCF (Edmunds et al., 2016). The Great Barrier Reef has been in crisis for at least a couple decades because of severe coral bleaching and calcification. In the last couple years, large sections of the reef have died because of changing environmental conditions. The situation is similar in many of the coral reefs around the planet. Ocean Acidification will continue to have monumental lasting negative effects on the environment unless drastic changes are made to the way humanity is using our natural resources. Ocean Acidification occurs when the ocean uptakes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and the resulting chemical reactions make the water more acidic. According to the NOAA When carbon dioxide (CO2) is absorbed by seawater, chemical reactions occur that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Benefits Of Helicopter Parenting For most kids, moving to college is the first time they will be out of their parents house for a long period of time. This opens them up to a lot of new experiences. Ideally, they should be ready to face the new challenges living out of the house will bring. In some cases, the child will have an extremely difficult time learning how to take care of themselves. The parents of the child play a huge role in whether or not their child is ready for this step. When raising the child, they made the decision to either let their child learn things on their own, or help them with every single task the child is presented with. Washington Post writer, Amy Joyce, wrote How Helicopter Parents are Ruining College Students , to explain mostly to parents why they need to let their child handle problems in college on their own. Joyce explains that some parents even call the college president when their child has some sort of issue going on. It is very common for a grown child to text their parents to solve problems for them. This is becoming a growing concern as today s college students are more attached to their parents. There are many people who believe that letting children fail benefits them later in life. • 13. How Is Wordsworth Influenced By William Wordsworth Wordsworth is an high English poet and an establishing member of the Romantic Movement in the English literature. He lived and wrote at the period between 1770 1850 which is the golden era of romanticism . Like other Romantics, Wordsworth poetry and personality also were greatly influenced by his love for the nature, especially by the spectacles and views of the Lake Country area, where he spent most of his life in nature. Wordsworth is sincere thinker; he showed high tenderness and a love of nature and simplicity. Two persons affected him personally and literary, his sister Dorothy and the great romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The speaker of this poem makes a heaven out of a windy day and a bunch of daffodils. His happiness does not last forever he s not that unrealistic but the daffodils give him a little boost of joy whenever he needs it, like recharging his batteries. In conclusion, William Wordsworth is one of the best romantic poets; actually he established the romanticism in the English literature. Now, we can say that the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is the pest representation of romantic poetry. It contains most of the characteristics of good romantic poetry. Fear in Wordsworth s My heart leaps up when I behold, We Are Seven, Tintern Abbey, and Resolution and Independence Fear in Wordsworth s My heart leaps up when I behold , We Are Seven , Tintern Abbey , and Resolution and Independence Romantic poetry conjures in the mind of many people images of sweet, pastoral landscapes populated by picturesque citizens who live in quaint houses in rustic villages, with sheep grazing on green swathed hills, while a young swain plights his troth to his fair young maiden, who reclines demurely amidst the clover and smiles sunnily. Does the speaker himself believe the affirmations he has made in the first six lines? As always with Wordsworth, the poem is not about what it seems at first glance. The child is father to the man (line 7) is true in a basic sense: everything the man is comes from what the child was. A child has natural, or unforced and hence automatic, piety; he must, simply because he has not yet acquired the cultural baggage that modifies, cultivates and un naturalizes his being. Growing up is the process of socialization the gaining of prejudices that block out unnecessary or extraneous thoughts, feelings and images. Eventually enough prejudices are acquired that a reader can say Isn t that nice? , wipe away a crocodile tear, and dismiss a poem that might be disturbing. The child, having not yet acquired these prejudices, is closer to the fonts of meaning and truth; the child finds easily, even carelessly, what the adult, by growing up, has lost forever. And here is the envy mentioned above almost a resentment. This resentment is evident in other of Wordsworth s works. In We Are Seven , for example, a young girl maintains that there are seven children in her family, although two are dead; the narrator tries insistently almost stridently to convince her that, with two dead, her parents have only five children. In order for this to occur it is important that people of all ages understand the meaning behind the Eucharist. The New Testament asserts that during the Last Supper, Jesus Christ gave his disciples bread and wine during the Passover meal, and asked his followers to do this in memory of me . While early Eucharist s were masses in people s homes or small communities, and always involved a gathering, storytelling and a meal, the more elaborate ceremonies celebrated in contemporary Catholic communities developed long after (Harker and Phipps 2001, p. 347). In earlier times, and after the Last supper when Christ revealed himself in the breaking of the bread to two disciples (Luke 24:13 35, cited in The Eucharist Word Press, n.d.), it is thought that perhaps Christ was teaching them that to partake in a meal in memory of him, he was teaching them that he would be with them as the Risen One (The Eucharist Word Press, n.d.). These simple celebrations and acts of remembering served as the basis for the more elaborate rites in contemporary Catholic practice. These include an introduction, opening prayer, ... Some characteristics that make up an effective follower are ambition, enthusiasm, intelligence, selflessness, and self reliance. These five characteristics are all desirable traits that form an immaculate effective follower. A faultless company is the result of effective followers being hired on to a company. A strong leader is also required as they would help the efficiency and success of a company. Zebrafish Synthesis Abstract Oxygen is essential for human life, but an excess of oxygen could easily become toxic and have an adverse effects on the mammalian brain due to excessive formation of reactive oxygen species, commonly known as ROS. In previous studies, changes in hippocampal DNA material have been observed in validated animal models of PTSD (Chertkow Deutsher, Cohen, Klein, Ben Shachar, 2010). These changes in the genome may very well be the underlying cause of long term traumatic memories. Previous studies conducted at Texas A M University Commerce used zebrafish as a model for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), however, the results not only proved that zebrafish show symptoms of PTSD, but in fact we observed modification in the neural progenitor cells around the hippocampal area of the zebrafish brain. High concentrations of ROS can be the reason behind the modification of the neural cells. Therefore, the importance of this study is to investigate the molecular pathways of ROS in the zebrafish brain. We hypothesize that using an antioxidant, N acetyl L cysteine (NAC) could reduce the concentrations of trauma induced ROS, which would ultimately prevent the modifications in the neural progenitor cells in zebrafish. It can be argued that the story is not just a reflection of the events in the 20th Century but the novel reflects the events that continue to happen until today in socialism. For instance, the novel gives a glimpse of the kind of life experienced by many African Americans. They were victimized by the society and the persons in authority refuse to help them. With food shortages and needs for new medicine, research, and cures, it s hard to think that there could ever be a solution to these issues. Cloning could be one of the many solutions to the problems that are afflicting the world as we know it. But that has many people wondering what exactly cloning is, and, more importantly why people do it. Knowing what cloning is, why people do it, and other opinions and feelings about cloning could help us solve these issues. To clone means to create a genetic copy of another organism. Cloning depends on there being two cells, one of a female s egg, and one from an adult that is intended to be cloned. (Wilmut) There are also a variety of specific types of cloning, but two main general types: reproductive and non reproductive, also called nuclear transplantation or therapeutic cloning. ( Cloning ) Nuclear transplantation creates clones in a different way than reproductive cloning does. Nuclear transplantation starts when the cell is taken from the adult, which contains the genome of the organism that is wanted to be cloned. (Cloning: Frequently) An egg is then taken from a female, the nucleus removed, and the cell from the adult is placed into the female s egg. These two eggs are fused together with an electric current. (Weiss) This causes the egg s DNA to become that of the subject s egg. (Cloning: Frequently) The egg is then placed into a test tube and allowed to split there before being placed into the surrogate. Judy intended to work during the first two years of marriage so they can buy extras like the refrigerator, washing machine, floor polisher, good radiogram and vacuum cleaner, in that order .1 As Judy s expectations and aspirations show, cleaning routines occupied a considerable amount of women s time in the 1950s and 1960s. Indeed, new products and applicances, as well as their greater availabilty, encouraged greater attention than ever to these chores. Consumer demand was insatiable though home scientist Norah Holland noted that women with young children demanded modern conveniences, while older women sometimes thought that the purchase of new equipment was unnecessary.2 By 1949, New Zealand company Fisher Paykel was producing 600 washing machines, 500 refrigerators and 700 vacuum cleaners each month, and struggled to fill orders.3 Demand was able to be satisfied only when import controls were relaxed in 1953. Etymologically, the word Aesthetics derives from the Greek àisthesis, which means perception by the senses. It used to refer as the study of the world of perceptions as the doctrine aimed to discover the complexity of perceptive knowledge. In ancient times, the concept of Art was closely related to the practice with the technique which Plato argued were, certainly, not positive. According to the philosopher, Art and Tragedy are copies of copies, the copies of the sensible world. He argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faced with the difficulties encountered by the circularity of the Institutional theory, some theoreticians have tried to develop some definitions based on the relational properties of art, changing the terms of the essential relationships between its properties. On this terms, a very interesting approach has been suggested by Levinson (1979), who is committed to the development of a definition in which the Art is identified through the relationship with history. Levinson (1979) argues that an object is a work of art if it has been created to be perceived and evaluated in the same way that previous and recognized works of art have been received and evaluated. In other words, what is art today resembles the continuing relationship which justifies the attribution of the status of Artwork. His theory, known as the Historical Intentional, is halfway between the Institutional and the other traditional Aesthetics definitions. Levinson s proposal differs significantly from that of Dickie (1974), and the difference lies in the recovery of a real contact with our relationship with history and with the Artworks. Even though I truly appreciate the effort of philosophers in trying to identify a generic definition, I assume that there is not a unique definition of Art, this word is far too complex and matter of subjectivity, and I believe that it is not necessary to incorporate the universal in the particular. Art is generally the perception of beauty, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) Essay Prion diseases or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) are a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. They are distinguished by long incubation periods, characteristic spongiform changes associated with neuronal loss, and a failure to induce inflammatory response. The proteinaceous infectious particles, prion was identified by an American neurologist Stanley B. Prusiner and colleagues in 1982derived from the words protein and infection (Stanley B. Prusiner Autobiography). Prions are known to Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD), Gerstmann Sträussler Scheinker syndrome and Fatal Familiar Insomnia in humans. Moreover, different anti PrP antibodies or their antigen binding fragments that disrupt the PrP Aβ interaction were able to block the Aβ mediated disruption of synaptic plasticity. These findings were deemed exciting because they suggest the involvement of PrPC in Alzheimer s disease (AD) pathogenesis. However, others found that the absence of PrPC did not prevent deficits in hippocampal dependent behavioral tests upon intracerebral Aβ injection (Krull Nunnally, 2004). PrPSc is identified as a surrogate marker and potential TSE agent. PrPSc formation was first detected in the murine neuroblastoma cell line N2a when exposed to mouse adapted scrapie (Abbott, 2010).Subsequent infection experiments demonstrated susceptibility of N2a cells to several different mouse adapted scrapie strains. Since then, several cell lines of neuronal and non neuronal origin have been identified to be susceptible to a stable infection with prions. Once prions have successfully infected a cell line, they can replicate persistently over multiple cell passages, with very few exceptions, without any overt cytopathic effect (Shorter J, Lindquist S (June 2005). Cell lines that have been successfully infected include microglial cells as well as epithelial cells, fibroblasts and myoblasts, which have all been demonstrated to persistently replicate an array of prion strains in vitro. • 38. Domestic Violence Against Men By Suzanne Steinmetz The earliest literature reference to domestic violence against men can be found in the studies of Suzanne Steinmetz (1977,1978) entitled, The Battered Husband Syndrome. She hypothesizes that the incidents of husband on wife beatings rivals the incidents of wife perpetrated batterings, and that it was husband abuse not wife abuse that was underreported form of domestic violence. Steinmetz used two United States populations, a broadband nonrepresentative group and a random sample in New Castle, Delaware in the form of police reports and family surveys. The small study found only small differences in the percent of men and women who resorted to violence in the context of pushing, shoving, or hitting with hands or an object. This suggested early on that domestic violence is not a one way street. Husband beating is a serious issue and needs attention due to the fact that it is grossly underreported. Steinmetz received numerous criticism from her colleagues on this concept. In later studies, Murray Straus, Richard Gelles, and Suzanne Steinmetz (1980), authors of the book, Behind Closed Doors: Violence in The American Family, supports Steinmetz s earlier studies in finding that women acted violently during marital affairs compared to a similar number of men who act violently in the United States. The study used 2,413 family surveys, finding in majority of them that the level of violence was a mutual or bilateral activity, with only 27% of cases finding that husbands were the ... • 39. Marxist Literary Criticism Essay While literary critics do attempt to elaborate or develop ideas articulated by Karl Marx, it is important and necessary to make a distinction between Marx s specific socio economic and political agenda and the body of literary theory which emerged years later. Marxist literary criticism proceeds from the fundamental philosophical assumption that consciousness can never be anything else than conscious existence...Life is not determined by consciousness, but consciousness by life (Marx 568 9). Marxist critics use this challenge to the notion of an innate, prefigured, individual human nature to reexamine the nature of creative or literary authority. Power seems to reside outside or beyond the bounds of humanity. Rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though such institutions are capable of reaffirming certain statements of power, hegemony itself is, as Raymond Williams states, a whole body of practices and expectations...our ordinary understanding of the nature of man and his world...a sense of reality...a sense of absolute (4). While Marxist critics must admit that they themselves are helpless to avoid the effects of hegemony, the critical project of Marxist literary criticism remains steadfastly committed to the attempt to identify and understand the mediating contexts in which the forces of hegemony exert pressure on a text, its author, and its audience. These contexts manifest themselves within specific historical, economic, political, cultural, etc... conditions. In order to discover such contexts, a work of art cannot be uprooted from the specific temporal circumstances in which it is read or created and regarded as an isolated purely original entity. Literature, for better or worse, is mired in history. Marxist literary criticism remains a very rational, pragmatic endeavor at its core. If ideology were merely some abstract set of notions...society would be very much easier to move and change than in practice it has ever been or is (Williams 3). Though aware of their own inability to comment from outside the bounds of hegemony, Marxist critics seem to express a tacit hope that by providing knowledge of hegemonic ... Disability is prominent in our society and it is important that we live and work in communities that are inclusive to those with limitations, and provide necessary supports to them. As a young adult I have learned and experienced more about disability than when I was younger. I have gained the most knowledge about disability through university classes, but there have also been times growing up where I encountered individuals with various disabilities, either through sports or school. In this regard, it is beneficial for a child to receive education on what it means for a person to have a disability and how others can respond appropriately and not with fear or negatively. To explain disability, it is important to consider 3 different definitions, disability, impairment and handicap. As well, when teaching younger kids about disability it would be beneficial if they were taught how to be accepting of those who act, look or talk differently than they do. On the other hand, a child may not recognize a PWD to be physically or mentally different from them, therefore they would continue to treat them as everyone else. This mind set is helpful when thinking about disability, because whether or not you perceive someone to have a different functioning level than you, it is vital to treat them with the same respect as everyone else. As I grew up I continued to have more interactions with PWD as well as ask more questions about the concept of disability. I remember participating in recreational sports with other kids that had differences, such as a child with a cochlear implant, or a child with an intellectual disability. I never remembered these kids being discriminated against or excluded in games, but I also was not overly attentive to how others treated them, or the differences in their playing ability. The ship making industry was support by the availability of trees and forests which provided ship making materials. Some of these were transported by the waterways such as rivers and all the way down to the coast. With the increase in the number of ships came more traffic and more globe trotting. This also enhanced international trade and especially the Transatlantic Triangular Trade. This is where the three continents, Europe went to Africa to get slaves who would work on the plantations in America from where the Europeans would carry the raw materials back home which would be manufactured into finished goods. This also helps in explain the last usage of waterways and bodies and their economic effect. In the transport industry, before the railroads came, people used water bodies to transport heavy and large cargo. In it, he explored many of his most characteristic themes, including the conflict between American individualism and European social custom and the situation of Americans in Europe. James proclaimed that The only reason for the existence of a novel is that it does attempt to represent reality. Plot was for him but the extension of character. Like most of James s fiction of the 1870s, and the majority of his writing for the rest of his career, Portrait focuses on a group of expatriate Americans in England and Europe. Leisured, cultured, but just a bit bored, Daniel Touchett and his son Ralph are idly passing their time at Daniel s country estate, Gardencourt, but find themselves reenergized when Daniel s all but estranged wife, Lydia, brings with her to England her niece, a beautiful and enthusiastic orphan named Isabel Archer. Isabel is everything these men are not: lively, enthusiastic, and alert, she is a less flirtatious, more thoughtful version of Daisy Miller. But this American Girl, too, has the resistance to convention that both marks the type and makes its fate so problematic; when her Aunt Lydia reproaches her for staying up late to talk to Ralph and his friend, Lord Warburton, Isabel thanks her for informing her of the social prohibition but claims that she wants this knowledge only so as to choose whether to follow it. Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or why not? The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. In practice, the 3 month T bills are replaced by taking a rolling short position of repos daily and entering into a 3 month OIS to receive floating and pay fixed (OIS rate) ... Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars. The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120. Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000 Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1/4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000 Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32% Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of financial institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates? There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon. So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very low in the long end of swaps.
