Essay on Enlightenment in Colonial Society
Enlightenment in Colonial Society
The Enlightenment began in the mid to late 17th century; almost every source gives different dates
and doesn t really specify when exactly it started. It consisted as more of a religious revolution, but it
also had to do with the emergence of different specialized professions. A major point of the English
Enlightenment was that it did not like the idea of a vengeful God, nor did it like the idea that man
could only retain so much knowledge and a certain social standing.
John Tillotson, who was the archbishop of Canterbury until 1694 would preach, morality rather than
dogma and had a way of defending the doctrine of eternal damnation that left his listeners wondering

The most desirable course for the colonists to take was to agree to disagree. Nothing more powerfully
encouraged the movement of separation of church and state than the realization that no one church
could be the only church of the new colonies.
Several of the most distinguished leaders of the American Revolution, Thomas Jefferson, George
Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Paine, were very much influenced by the English; and, to a
lesser extent the French Enlightenment. Jefferson and Franklin both spent time in France, absorbing
the influence of the French Enlightenment. The language of natural law, inherent freedoms, and self
determination which was so deeply rooted in American tradition (what there was of a tradition) was
the language of the Enlightenment; however, there was still a little of some other or traditional
religions involved, which has been called our civil religion .
Eventually different legal professions started to emerge in many of the colonies, and with this surge of
new professionals came the ideas of Enlightenment. In the 1600 s most of the colonists hated lawyers,
people thought of them as men who took advantage of others and who deliberately stirred up discord.
For a small amount of time Massachusetts and Virginia made it illegal to practice law. Maryland was

How Does Shakespeare Use Deception In King Lear
King Lear Essay Deception is a horrible act, in most circumstances, it breaks trust, ruins relationships
and causes chaos between loved ones. What s even worse than deception is betrayal, which is
sometimes when someone realizes they have been deceived and then feel that they are betrayed. The
tragedy King Lear , by William Shakespeare, describes how deception and betrayal are portrayed in
the play by commenting on family relationships crumbling to pieces, loyalty being disregarded and the
status of women with power being abused for dishonorable purposes. Family is usually closer to each
other rather than other people, but in the case of King Lear , by William Shakespeare, it is shown that
family relationships lead to deception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Endocrine Body System Study Guide
Endocrine body system
What are hormones? A hormone is any member of a class of signaling molecules produced by glands
in multicellular organisms that are transported by the circulatory system to target distant organs to
regulate physiology and behaviour. Which is a regulatory substance produced in an organism and
transported in tissue fluids such as blood or sap to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action.
Glands of the Endocrine System
The Thyroid Gland The thyroid gland produces hormones which regulate the body s metabolic rate as
well as heart and digestive function, muscle control, brain development and bone maintenance. Its
correct functioning depends on having a good supply of iodine from the diet. The Parathyroid Gland

Causes Of Poverty In Honduras
Living a life in Honduras is dreadful because research has shown that in 2016, 66 percent of the
population of Honduras lived in poverty according to official data. Honduras also has one of the
highest murder rates in the world, and the homicide rate in 2016 was 59 per 100,000. Which means
that every 100,000 people living in Honduras 59 Hondurans will die every year. The numbers of the
homicide rate in Honduras is ten times higher than global averages, and it is also 12 times higher than
United States averages. One of the factors that breed crime is poverty because in Honduras there are
limited jobs, as well as, inadequate wages, as a consequence, those workers don t have enough money
to buy food for the entire family. Therefore those people join crime organizations to be able to feed
their family by taking from others. After researching various articles, I found out that the one who is
responsible for all the chaos that is happening in Honduras is the government of Honduras. The
government of Honduras is a problem for the country because within the government there is political
corruption. Since the corrupt politicians are abusing their power for evil it s having a negative impact
for the people who are living in Honduras. Numerous people don t know this, but, it s common to see
corrupt leaders working for the government in Central America countries such as Honduras.

The Sentence Task Shown by Michelle Obama and the North...
Imagine books are buildings, then sentences are the very foundation of them. For long, sentences has
been the most essential way to exchange information, to express feelings and to share values and
thoughts. The art of rhetoric is applied in the sentences to carry out messages more efficiently. During
my research process, I have to commit that as a foreign language speaker, I found it really hard at first.
Inspired by the history of rhetoric, I started searching for speeches and eventually I managed to find
two interesting sentences.
Both sentences come from two outstanding women who have grown up with different education and
culture background. One of them, Mrs. Obama, first lady of the United States, is quite familiar to us.
Michelle Obama was born into an ordinary family in Chicago, brought up by her stay at home mother
and plumber father. She worked hard and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law
School.Later on she became a well known attorney.(The National First Ladies Library,2013) In
contrast to the First Lady, the other speaker, Hyeonseo Lee, does not bear such fame. She actually has
been a North Korean refugee since her childhood. Born in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee left for China
in 1997 during a serious famine occurred in North Korea. She now lives in South Korea, as an activist
for her fellow refugees.(TED,2013) Given the brief biography of both ladies with significant
difference, it is easier for us to understand what exact ideas they try to

Censorship In Young Adult Literature
While reading the assigned chapters of the textbook I found many points interesting and informative.
The first portion that caught my attention involved how to incorporate both young adult literature and
the classics into a curriculum. A very interesting metaphor was used to describe why adolescents
shouldn t read the classics. I was really able to relate to the idea of how well written young adult
literature can encourage students to read and can possibly lead to reading the classics. I think that it is
a great idea to pair a young adult book with a classic in order to engage reading as well as help address
certain points of the classic. This idea plays well with how to encourage reluctant readers to want to
read, which is the next point I will discuss. A reluctant reader is something that most teachers will
have to deal with at some point in their career. It can be very difficult for some students to get into the
habit of reading for pleasure, it is also common for avid readers to be in a stage where they just do not
want to read. This is a situation that I can relate to very strongly seeing as I love to read but sometimes
find myself in a reading slump, where I struggle to motivate myself ... Show more content on

Personally, I had never heard the term censorship used in relation to literature, and that made this
section all the more interesting to me. Censorship is used to describe when individuals, such as
librarians or teachers, find certain ideas and information dangerous or objectionable to readers. People
examine books, films, dramas, and television to determine and suppress information they find
offensive. These ideas are practiced by teachers and librarians when finding books for adolescents to
read. Books that involve offensive language, violence, sexism, or substance abuse are often not
considered to be appropriate for young adults, therefore they are not included in many

The Planning Processes For The Classroom Schedule Created...
The planning processes for this unit started with our Math schedule created by the cooperating teacher,
Ms. Ross. The schedule indicated that the focus for the following week or two, depending on student s
performance, would be on the number six. Every Math lesson includes a SmartBoard presentation as
the I do and we do portion of lesson. This presentation is used and reviewed every day as this group of
student benefits from repetition based on their age group and disabilities. The SmartBoard
presentation includes twenty four slides, with the first ten slides always being a part of our lesson.
During this portion of the lesson, one slide is dedicated to one video that highlights the

group of students benefit from short periods of instruction, short activities, and frequent breaks. As the
pre and post assessments were created to focus on number recognition, quantity discrimination, one to
one correspondence and writing of the numbers, this unit follows address the same categories. During
our pre assessment, out of the fifteen students in the classroom, eight students recognized the number
six when shown the number. Only one student was able to identify that the number six was the largest
number when comparing the number six to a smaller number. During the one to one correspondence
activity eight students were able to make the connection between the number six and a visual

The Advantage Of Swimming
Advantages of Swimming Only 56 percent of American can perform core swimming skills (Feeney).
These skills include things like jumping or stepping water over one s head, returning to the surface to
tread water or float for one minute, circling around and identifying an exit. Swimming 25 yards to that
point and then exiting the water. Than there are stories of people who are 70 plus getting in the pool
and learning to swim for the first time and how its helping them live longer and happier lives.
Swimming has been helping people physically, mentally, and socially.
Swimming helps improve the pulmonary and Cardiovascular systems. For example, Swimming is thus
frequently recommended to asthmatics as a safe and enjoyable mean to maintain their lung function,
to increase their aerobic capacity and to improve their quality of life (Bernard). The motion that every
stroke takes, promotes controlled, deep breathing, by using the diaphragm and therefore increases lung
volume, letting your lungs more in a certain about of time. Swimming also helps the Cardiovascular
part of the body. By creating the blood vessels, it increases blood volume, which can lower blood
pressure (Alic and Cataldo). Circulation in general becomes better, because of swimming. The water
pressure on the legs and the feet moves the blood upward through the veins of the body (Alic and
Cataldo ). Swimming can benefit your pulmonary and cardiovascular system throughout

How Does Macleish Present My View Of Poetry
Out of all these poems Ars Poetica by Archibald Macleish is the poem that accurately expresses what
my view of poetry is, what it does, and how we should read it. The reason that this poem represents
what my view of poetry is, the way that Archibald is able to describe poetry in a way I had never
thought about before but a way that I am still fully able to understand. He explains how poems should
be able to stand on their own, that they shouldn t need words. What this choice says about me is that
when it comes to reading poetry I read it in a way that the poem should be what it is trying to say. Ars

Lust In Romeo And Juliet Essay
Romeo and Juliet; a classic tale that sparks debates over what took place: a timeless romance, or a
deadly infatuation. The play is also one of Shakespeare s most renowned and praised works from his
career and has stood the test of time, which is impressive seeing as the play is over 400 years old as of
today. The play is seen as a testament to the ultimate love story that ended with the deaths of the main
characters Romeo and Juliet, but for the people who have read the play, there are many pieces of
evidence that prove that the play is actually a story of lust between two teenagers. In fact, one of the

Shubin Your Inner Fish Summary
The book Your Inner Fish is an evolutionary narrative with information taken over more than 3.5
billion years. The book is divided into chapters by body parts and their refinements through evolution.
Each body part is then examined extensively and shown how it relates back to what the book claims to
be the common ancestor of humans; the fish. Readers will be able to learn about evolution in an easy
to understand format and in a way that will make the reader rethink evolution.
Throughout the book, Shubin illustrates the life of a paleontologist through engaging stories.
Paleontologists work long hours, days and even years just to make one meaningful discovery, however
each discovery contributes to a missing puzzle piece in evolution.. Shubin compares searching for
fossils in the Arctic as worse than finding the proverbial needle in the haystack (Shubin, 2009). While

Just Is A Poem Written By. Cummings
In Just is a poem written by e.e. cummings. It describes that spring is full of new memories and
activities. In just is about how little children go running to a balloonman. His whistles draw them
closer to him and they stop whatever they are doing to heed to his calling. He likes to play with the
spacing in between words and sentences that help the meaning of the poem and the balloonman.
Cummings uses many elements of poetry and describes the balloonman that has many theories to his
purpose in the poem. First, the balloonman appears several times in the poem In Just . He fits the
spring setting but is described with words that make him stick out. The balloonman has a much darker
purpose in the poem then what is read. On lines 3 and 4 he is described as little and lame. He is
described as lame to tell the readers that he can t walk properly he s got a limp (shmoop). On lines 11
and 12 cummings described him as old and queer. Spring is the setting and represents things that are
new, but the balloonman is old which makes him not fit the poem even more. He is also called queer
which means weird. The balloonman is getting a lot more attention than anything else in the poem
which makes it seem like he needs to be looked into more. On lines 20 and 21 the balloonMan is
described even more. He is called goat footed and the M in men is capitalized. On every line after the
balloonman appears he is described as whistling far and wee. He is called goat footed because he is

have clearly defined core values that are executed by specific learning disciplines (Senge, 2010).
Giesecke and McNeil (2004) stated, A learning organization is an organization skilled at creating,
acquiring, and transferring knowledge and at modifying its behavior to reflect new knowledge and
insights (p. 55). In the pursuit of defining specific practices that would produce an ideal learning
organization, Senge (2008) proposes five disciplines that include, ...systems thinking, mental models,
personal mastery, shared vision, and dialogue (p. 1). In this application paper I will analyze each of the
five disciplines discussed by Senge (2008) and discuss how they can be applied in an organization
such as the high school where I am currently teaching to address specific areas in need of
improvement. The high school where I currently teach consists of twenty four hundred students from
grades 10th through 12th. This school organization as many others is in the business of meeting
educational challenges in the midst of innovative times in a noble attempt to prepare students
academically for the demands of an ever changing and knowledge driven work environment. There
are several key factors that I observe in our school that have in some way hindered our progress in
becoming an ideal learning organization. First, our school depends on the collaborative and
communication processes

Analysis Of The Play Oedipus Tyrannous By Sophocles
Tamara McDowney
Dr. Kwa
LITR201
August 19, 2016
Dear Dr. Kwa,
I chose to write about the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles, I found this play to be very
encapsulating to the very end. I really enjoyed the suspense, as well as the turn of direction that the
play took in the end as the plot thickened. In this essay, I will describe why I personally believe that
this play was not just a tragic event and the many reasons why I believe that Oedipus can be viewed as
a tragic hero by his actions throughout the play. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will
show that I have written a well developed and explanatory essay that will prove to be true of my
analysis of Oedipus s heroism in his words to support my opinions. I know that some of the verses that
I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on
those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also
view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of
words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large
sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count.

It is the written media which has made history recordable and accurate. For instance, the age of an old
manuscript found while digging a historical site gives information about the era in which it was

researchers and history students.
Anyone can anonymously post articles and raise their voices in print media i.e. newspapers. It is

Discuss the design issues involved in designing the page of a book. (6marks)
A book can have a portrait format or landscape format. Portrait format is where the book is deeper
than it is wide and landscape is where the book is wider than it is deep. Most books are of small sizes
for easy portability. Larger sizes are suitable for reference books like atlases.
Papers used to print the page of a book are likely to have a smoother finish than those used for
newspapers. This is to make the book durable. The books are then bound together to form a book.
There are three types of binding: perfect, edition and saddle stitching. Edition binding is the most
durable.
The structure of a book is categorized into preliminary matter, main text and end matter. The
preliminary has information that precedes the text like

Littering Effects

The Detrimental Effects of Littering This essay is going to discuss the detrimental effects of littering
by introducing the menaing of littering. Then it will discuss about the effects of littering to wildlife,
health and communities. The essay also provides suggestion to combat littering and illegal dumping of
trash and waste. Littering is the careless and casual disposal of trash or waste, often along roadways
and in other public places. It may include items as large as automobile tires and parts or as small as
cigarette butts. Littering may be either intentional or unintentional. Unintentional littering occurs as a
result of uncovered trucks, unsecured vehicle loads, loss of vehicle parts, trash can spills, ... Show

Other indicators of neighborhood decline and disorder include vandalism, abandoned buildings,
graffiti, and vacant lots. Of all of the indicators assessed in a study done by Perkins, Meeks, and
Taylor in 1992, litter was found to have the strongest correlation with perceptions of neighborhood
decline and disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). A study by Skogan in 1990, indicates that the
effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease in property values to an
increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that crime will be tolerated (as in
Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as people s perceptions of neighborhood
decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and that criminals will be drawn to the area
because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will be tolerated or ignored. A study by
DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant relationship between neighborhood
disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are more likely to be completed in
neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). The study by Skogan
indicates that the effect of this perception of neighborhood decline and increase in crime can also
negatively impact property values and investment interest (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998).

Pay for Performance Paper
The need to improve both the quality and the safety of health care in the United States is well
documented. Traditional strategies to stimulate improvement include regulation, measurement of
performance and subsequent feedback, and marketplace competition. Despite limited evidence, public
reporting of hospital quality data and pay for performance have emerged as two of the most widely
advocated strategies for accelerating quality improvement (Lindenauer, 2007). Quality health care is
very important to both physicians and patients because in essence everyone wants to be in good health
in order to live a long quality life. The United States has a lot of work to do on providing its citizens
with quality health care and one such innovation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These payment structures have led to concerns about undersupply of needed services (Virtual Mentor,
2006). The quality of health care is directly affected by the system costs. The cost of health care has
always been a major concern in the United States. With managed care systems and pay for
performance approaches cost does directly affect the quality. The major questions that surround this
issue is are physicians being paid fairly for their services, and are the services deserving of the costs
associated with it. These questions may not be fully answered to the preference of those involved with
health care. The cost of health care will always be a debatable question but in essence there needs to
be some type of commission that can fairly determine cost of health care services so that all parties
involved are compensated fairly. A physician takes an oath to provide quality care to their patients no
matter the cost but the physician also deserves to be compensated fairly for the services they do
provide. According to the AMA, fair and ethical PFP programs are committed to improved patient
care as their most important mission. Evidence based quality of care measures, created by physicians
across appropriate specialties, is the measures used in the programs (AMA 2005). Principals of the

Pollution And Its Effects On The United States
Hazardous Pollution Water Pollution has been an increasing problem over the last few years. Pollution
comes from many different things; agricultural, urban runoff, industrial, sedimentary, animal wastes,
and leeching from landfills/septic systems just to name a few (Resources). The reason why pollution
has increased over the years is because the rise in population and the advancements in technology the
society has made. If society plans on having their resources here for many years to come they are
going to have to make some drastic changes in the way they treat the earth, and these changes will
have to start with their pollutants (Foundation). Tar Pamlico River is one of the many rivers in North

Home to 10 million hogs, North Carolina is the number two producer of swine in the United States.
Swine produce about ten times the fecal waste of an average human being, resulting in roughly
thirteen million pounds of waste per day from the North Carolina herd (Smith Jernigan). Research has
found that hog and poultry feces and urine are leaking out of open air, unlined cesspools, draining off
the waste disposal fields used by the facilities and polluting the Tar River. Samples have shown that
fifty eight percent of watersheds have shown swine or poultry manure effects (Henderson). In
addition, the large corporations behind this industry will not be liable for mismanagement of animal
waste and the harm it causes public health and the environment. The corporations may own the hogs
and the feed, but they do not take ownership of the waste. The waste, and its liability, becomes the
problem of the contract growers and the state of North Carolina. Until the corporations are held
accountable for externalizing the true cost of their business to the public, hog lagoons and spray fields
will continue to plague eastern North Carolina for a very long time (Foundation). Polluted storm water

though the new residences were quite remarkable they could not be purchased. Instead, they were
rented out to Pullman in advance who received a reasonable 6 percent profit. Many historians believe
that the inability to own property was one of the main flaws of Pullman. The average length of
residence in 1892 was four and a quarter years. Many residents later purchased homes in neighboring

Wal Mart And The Largest Retail Stores Essay
Introduction Over the past decades, Wal Mart has grown to become one of the largest retail stores in
the world. They operate internationally and keep growing each passing year. They have developed
some unique strategies that they have used allowing the company to grow into a multinational
company. Various case studies and researches have sought to explain the success of this company over
the years. Ken Mark from The University of Western Ontario conducted a case study on Wal Mart and
came up with some sound conclusions. Wal Mart s Hub and Spoke Distribution Network In
management of costs for any particular business, any method that deems to cut down on costs is
highly endorsed. This is in harmony with maximization of profits, which is the core purpose for any
company or business. In operations department, one of the ways in which a company or a business can
cut down on costs is by applying the hub and spoke distribution network. A hub and spoke distribution
network is a consolidated and fused logistics system to lower distribution costs, (Hudson, 2003). This
type of system not only moderates freight costs, but also ameliorates cycle times and moderates
inventory as well. Wal Mart sources its inventory across the globe, stores them in one location, and
then ships them directly to where there is demand. Since one of the major principles of Wal Mart is to

Two Film Versions of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a timeless, classic love story written by the incomparable William Shakespeare.
Many of Shakespeare s works are considered literary classics, but none are more loved than Romeo
and Juliet. This play masterfully tells the love story of two teenagers in Elizabethan England. The title
characters Romeo and Juliet are members of two feuding families, Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is
a Capulet. There are different stylistic ways of portraying Romeo and Juliet, and the two most popular
film versions portray two very different styles of this one play. Zeferelli s Romeo and Juliet was made
in the 1970s, and is the film version most commonly shown in high school classrooms. The newest
film version of this play is Baz Luhrmanns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such scene was the infamous balcony scene. Zeferelli stuck to the classical interpretation, while
Luhrmann did not. In Zeferelli s version Juliet was on the balcony outside her bedroom calling
rhetorically, Romeo, Romeo where fore art thou Romeo? Romeo appears and climbs up the balcony,
and they share a couple of small kisses before he departs. However, in Luhrmanns version of the play,
events occurred slightly differently. Juliet is walking by the pool, when Romeo startles her and they
both fall in the pool. Their conversation then takes place in the pool. In between getting interrupted by
a nosy security guard they share several passionate kisses.
Another significant scene that was portrayed differently in the two versions was the suicide scene.
Zeferelli s version is once again almost exact to what we read in the book. Romeo sees what he
perceives to be a dead Juliet lying in her family s tomb, and distraught by the sight he drinks poison.
When Juliet awakens from her sleep she finds Romeo dead, and stabs herself with his knife. In
Luhrmanns version Romeo goes to the church where Juliet is laid out for her funeral. He also sees
what he perceives to be a dead Juliet and drinks poison. When Juliet awakens from her sleep she finds
out Romeo has swallowed poison and is dying. The main difference lies in the fact that we are led to
believe that maybe he will see her awake

Analysis Of The Ox-Bow Incident By Walter Van Tilburg Clark
What happens when a close friend or loved one dies? Does a person become enraged or do they take it
quietly and respect the event that has occurred? In The Ox Bow Incident written by Walter Van
Tilburg Clark, a cattleman named Kinkaid is murdered by rustlers . The townspeople, who all sit at a
local bar occasionally, decide to make a lynch mob to venture off and find the rustlers and give them
what they deserve. Once the mob starts out on the excursion, they start to fight here and there and do
not get along very well. They argue about everything, especially if they think that they should take
justice into their own hands after the murder. It will be determined after the book is read that the
townspeople do not have a right to take justice into their own hands because the facts were not
completely determined. In The Ox Bow Incident, facts are not provided right away. They don t know
yet who. But somebody s been in down on Drew s range and killed Kinkaid, and they think there s
cattle gone too. (Van Tilburg 45). This information is extremely vague; they do not know what
happened or how it happened. This decision to create a mob is completely based on speculation. They
do not have a description of the rustlers. The mob is going on an adventure blind. And no way to know

How Does Donald Duck Lose Your Personality
Have you ever watched a cartoon or a show or even a movie and you see yourself in or through that
character ? I recently found myself watching the movie Aladdin with my little cousin. I saw how
Jasmine stood up for the poor kids in the village and also how she spoke her mind to her dad about
who she had to marry. I saw how we connected in some way and how I am a lot like her. There are
other characters who I am also like in other ways. The three fictional characters that most represent
my personality are Donald Duck for his short temper, Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls for her
sweetness, and Jasmine from Aladdin for her way of standing up for what s right and speaking her
mind no matter who she is against. Although Donald is a duck and a guy, we do have the common
aspect of losing our temper after being pushed to a certain point. In an episode on TV called Donald
Duck cured duck, Donald Duck loses his temper because he can t open the window and he starts
breaking plates and he even breaks through walls. Daisy Duck then tells him she won t go out on a
date with him until he cures his temper. Donald Ducks temper makes his friends not want to be around
him. Although his friends tend to have patience for him, in this episode Daisy Duck didn t and she
refused to go out with him because of his moodiness. Since Donald is very caring and doesn t want to
lose his friends he does what he can to keep his temper under control. Like Donald Duck, I do control
my temper, but after being pushed too far I tend to lose it. Although I do have a lot of patience, when I
do get pushed over the edge, I often get very moody. Usually when this happens my family tries to
leave me alone until I can calm down on my own. For example, one day my parents and siblings had
gone out to the store with my dad s side of the family. That day I wasn t feeling very good so I was
allowed to stay at home, but since I am the only one that is good with children, they left all of their
kids for me to take care of. I ended up having to take care of four three year olds, two five year olds,
and two six month old babies. After a couple of hours I felt overwhelmed and all the kids were driving
me crazy so, I called my parents screaming and yelling at them

How Did The Mongols Change Over Time
Two Civilizations: Change Over Time and Continuity Over Time During this time period, there were
alterations in many civilizations. Some had multiple major fluctuations, while others did not change

over again throughout their reign. What they did was successful and because of that, their empire was
long lasting. Unlike the Mongols, Italy had much change during this period of time. Both of these
things caused the two different societies to flourish and last. The Mongols had the greatest continuity

civilizations. The Mongol empire was a pastoral one, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Terrorism
In a new book written by Tony Blair s former chief of staff and chief negotiator in Northern Ireland,
Jonathan Powell, the author of Talking to Terrorists states there is no conflict in the world that cannot
be solved (p. 35). In this book, Powell draws on his wider experiences of conflict resolution to argue
that terrorism nearly always ends in negotiation, and that we waste much blood and treasure in failing
to recognize the need to talk to terrorists at a much earlier stage. Additionally, the former chief of staff
states the problem is not talking to terrorists, it is giving in to them (p. 37), and acknowledges that
there is a time to negotiate, and that time is often when a state of mutually hurting stalemate (p. 42)
has been achieved. Yet, he contends, that we waste much time in regarding terrorists as irreconcilable
and beyond the pale before we belatedly decide to talk.
The argument against negotiation with terrorist hostage takers is simple: it rewards terrorist behavior,
undermines the legitimacy of non violent political actors, and nullifies efforts to police terrorism
(Faure 2003; Neumann 2007). Because hostage taking acts under terror, hostage takers will challenge
legal authorities weakening and discrediting it (Faure, 2003). Governments usually prefer an
alternative, like combat, because it requires no concessions, grants no legitimacy, and is consistent
with the norm of punishing illegal violence (Pruitt 2007, p. 374).
Indeed, when a terrorist group does not receive wide support or is not tied to an ethnic/nationalist
constituency they are much less likely to survive policing and military operations. However, for those
groups that do experience support, the group can be hidden, resupplied, given moral justification, and
the population may contribute to the active members. Curfews, checkpoints, harsh policing efforts,
and collateral damage contribute toward alienating the population away from the suspect government.
Discontented people, ranging from inconvenienced to maimed, strengthen sympathy and support for
insurgent/terrorist groups who are viewed increasingly justified or morally right. In other words,
police and military options can easily create more support for such groups,

Urinary Tract Infections ( Cautis )
Background and Significance
Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are caused by transmission of bacteria to the
urinary tract via the urinary catheter during catheter insertion, via the catheter lumen, or by handling
of the catheter drainage bag (Mori, 2014). Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 35% of
hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and about 80% of the UTIs are related to the presence of
indwelling urinary catheter (IUC). CAUTIs are a significant problem affecting the patients as well as
the health care system as they are linked with increased morbidity and mortality, increased health care
expenses, and extended hospitalization (Gould, 2015).
CAUTIs can result to patient s complications such urethritis, urethral strictures, bloody urine, bladder
obstruction and sepsis. In addition, the catheter drainage bag may be a reservoir of pathogens that can
result to more critical HAIs (Apostolopoulou, 2015). Approximately 13,000 deaths are associated with
UTIs every year. A total health care cost of approximately $0.4 $0.5 billion is spent for CAUTI
incidences and it s complications in the United States annually. The length of hospital stay related to
CAUTIs extends from two to four days (Gould, 2015).
As of October 1st, 2008, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) began withholding
reimbursement to hospitals for treatment of HAIs including the CAUTIs. The duration of the catheter
use has been identified as a major risk factor for

My Hysterectomy

Maximus and his family. Maximus is able to escape execution but could not save his family in time.
The most heart wrenching scene of the movie is Maximus finding his wife and (more) child
brutalized, burned and hanging on the family front porch. Maximus weeps for his family but also for
his own death. The thought of seeing his family is the only thing that has kept him alive. You can feel

Rome, he was noticed by King Henry II who appointed Thomas Becket to be his Chancellor. Becket
quickly became a favorite of Henry II. Thomas was loyal, dedicated and very talented in managing the
nation s finances. As chancellor he always put the King s interests first.
In 1162, Henry II had Becket appointed Archbishop of Canterbury fully expecting him to continue in
his loyalty to the King. However, much to the annoyance of Henry II, Becket became

How the Internet has Affected the US Postal Service
Is the Internet Hurting the US Postal Service, or Helping?
The United States Postal Service has been around since 1775. Over the years the United States Postal
Service has grown and changed with America (USPS). In the Last 230 years the Postal service has
evolved greatly. Mail has been delivered from foot to horseback, then to stagecoach. From stagecoach
to railroad, and from railroad to Air. Now due to the advances in the internet, mail is being delivered
by e mail (Kamarck, Para 1). Many believe that the internet may very well be the down fall of the
United States Postal Service. Since 1970 the Unites States Postal Service has been self sufficient. The
Post Office generates its revenue from selling stamps and other postage, and the many other services
that it offers (Nocera, Para 5). The only thing is that the Post Office is loosing money instead of
making money. The internet began to have an effect almost as soon as Americans went online.
Between 1998 and 2002 the pieces of first class mail dropped from 54.3 billion to 49 billion pieces.
This has only continued to accelerate over the years. In 2004 the Postal Service delivered 48 billion
pieces of first class mail and in 2008 they delivered 39 billion pieces. (Kamarck, Para 5). In 2005 the
lost cost the Postal Service $20 Billion (Nocera, Para 2). The dramatic reduction of first class mail is
due to the internet moving personal and business correspondence from paper mail to e mail (Kamarck,

The Negative Effects Of Juvenile Incarceration
In the past, there have been many concerns surrounding the issue of juvenile incarceration. As per the
history, there have been many cases where the effect of the incarnation of young people has been seen
to have very many negative effects. Research that has been conducted in the past has identified the
fact that incarceration has many negative effects than it was previously thought. Some of them include
the effect it has on the mental health of the inmates as well as the little effect it has in rehabilitating the
inmates (Barnert, Perry, Morris, 2016). All this has led to people being more encouraged to look for
alternatives of helping those involved to reform.
As for the economic reasons, it has over the years been proven that it is very expensive to maintain a
large number of inmates as well as hold them for long. This is a fact that has come down on both the
federal as well as the state governments that are responsible for the maintaining of the well being of
the different correctional facilities. By reducing the number of inmates in these facilities, the
governments can lower the costs incurred in the long term and hence promote the use of the same
funds in reforming the people in other ways.
Alternatives to Incarceration
There are a number of substitutes that can be considered to be alternatives to incarceration in helping
to reform the people involved. The first of this is probation which is a period ordered by the court that
an offender is under the supervision

Self-Esteem In The Ugly Duckling
Self esteem is a huge issue in North American culture, especially within young people. Knowing this
fact, it is not surprising that one of the most well known classic fairy tales, The Ugly Duckling, deals
directly with the very subject. In the story, the ugly duckling goes through a significant inner
transformation based largely on the way the others around him view his appearance. Since he is fully
capable of keeping up and swimming along with his mother and siblings, the ugly duckling is
accepted at first; however his self esteem plummets as others begin attacking and condemning him
based solely on his physical appearance. The transformations from acceptance to extreme prosecution
he faces, along with the eventual acceptance by the flock of swans serves to emphasize that self
esteem is largely influenced by the superficial opinions of those one interacts with, rather than
demonstrations of other skills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the older duck advises her to just let it lie there since the egg is big and different from the
others, the mother decides to sit a little longer (162). Furthermore, when the larger egg cracks
revealing the ugly duckling, the mother remains determined to keep and include him which allows her
to discover that he is in fact able to keep up with the rest of the brood. He is my own child and, when
you look closely at him, he s quite handsome... (162) she exclaims, proud to show him off to everyone
now that he s proved himself. Her determination to include and love him continues to be established
once they are in the henyard being confronted by the older aristocratic duck, when she states that he
may not be handsome, but he has good character and swims as well as the others (163). At this point,
the mother duck is not concerned with his appearance since she sees him as worthy of being a part of
her family a judgement she makes based on his actions not his

Making Stuff Stronger
Did you know that 75% of poisonous carbon monoxide emissions come from motor vehicles? By
breathing in excess amounts of carbon monoxide, it can enter the bloodstream and result in severe
tissue damage, lung damage and even death. Even though scientists and innovators know that motor
vehicles produce over 10 different types of pollution, they still focus on enhancing strength of the
vehicles rather than lowering the emissions. Improving strength is a very important part of advancing
technology. Strength may be necessary but reducing pollution is of much more importance.
During the first video, Making Stuff Stronger , the host, David Pogue, explored the world of strength
in material. There are many different types of strength: tensile strength, ... Show more content on

One of the leading causes of lung cancer is believed to be air pollution. With nearly all automobiles
running on gasoline, there is a much higher chance of obtaining a life threatening disease. There are
many different solutions that attempted to fix the problem of automobile pollution but only one has
come close. The hydrogen fuel cell consists of two electrodes, a positively charged cathode, and a
negatively charged anode. The fuel cell has an electrolyte that sends electrically charged particles from
one electrode to the other. The hydrogen fuel cell is able to produce energy as long as oxygen and
hydrogen are available. Hydrogen fuel cells don t produce emissions and are also able to power all
motor vehicles. These special fuel cells do not cause pollution or create dangerous byproducts, their
only byproducts are water and heat. In addition, a hydrogen fuel cell is way more efficient than
gasoline powered engines. Most forms of transportation emit harmful emissions and cause pollution.
The hydrogen fuel cell is an environmentally friendly alternative to

  • 2. Essay on Enlightenment in Colonial Society Enlightenment in Colonial Society The Enlightenment began in the mid to late 17th century; almost every source gives different dates and doesn t really specify when exactly it started. It consisted as more of a religious revolution, but it also had to do with the emergence of different specialized professions. A major point of the English Enlightenment was that it did not like the idea of a vengeful God, nor did it like the idea that man could only retain so much knowledge and a certain social standing. John Tillotson, who was the archbishop of Canterbury until 1694 would preach, morality rather than dogma and had a way of defending the doctrine of eternal damnation that left his listeners wondering how a merciful God ... Nothing more powerfully encouraged the movement of separation of church and state than the realization that no one church could be the only church of the new colonies. Several of the most distinguished leaders of the American Revolution, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Paine, were very much influenced by the English; and, to a lesser extent the French Enlightenment. Jefferson and Franklin both spent time in France, absorbing the influence of the French Enlightenment. The language of natural law, inherent freedoms, and self determination which was so deeply rooted in American tradition (what there was of a tradition) was the language of the Enlightenment; however, there was still a little of some other or traditional religions involved, which has been called our civil religion . Eventually different legal professions started to emerge in many of the colonies, and with this surge of new professionals came the ideas of Enlightenment. In the 1600 s most of the colonists hated lawyers, people thought of them as men who took advantage of others and who deliberately stirred up discord. Causes Of Poverty In Honduras Living a life in Honduras is dreadful because research has shown that in 2016, 66 percent of the population of Honduras lived in poverty according to official data. Honduras also has one of the highest murder rates in the world, and the homicide rate in 2016 was 59 per 100,000. Which means that every 100,000 people living in Honduras 59 Hondurans will die every year. The numbers of the homicide rate in Honduras is ten times higher than global averages, and it is also 12 times higher than United States averages. One of the factors that breed crime is poverty because in Honduras there are limited jobs, as well as, inadequate wages, as a consequence, those workers don t have enough money to buy food for the entire family. Therefore those people join crime organizations to be able to feed their family by taking from others. After researching various articles, I found out that the one who is responsible for all the chaos that is happening in Honduras is the government of Honduras. For long, sentences has been the most essential way to exchange information, to express feelings and to share values and thoughts. The art of rhetoric is applied in the sentences to carry out messages more efficiently. During my research process, I have to commit that as a foreign language speaker, I found it really hard at first. Inspired by the history of rhetoric, I started searching for speeches and eventually I managed to find two interesting sentences. Both sentences come from two outstanding women who have grown up with different education and culture background. One of them, Mrs. Obama, first lady of the United States, is quite familiar to us. Michelle Obama was born into an ordinary family in Chicago, brought up by her stay at home mother and plumber father. She worked hard and graduated from Princeton University and Harvard Law School.Later on she became a well known attorney.(The National First Ladies Library,2013) In contrast to the First Lady, the other speaker, Hyeonseo Lee, does not bear such fame. She actually has been a North Korean refugee since her childhood. Born in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee left for China in 1997 during a serious famine occurred in North Korea. • 7. Censorship In Young Adult Literature While reading the assigned chapters of the textbook I found many points interesting and informative. The first portion that caught my attention involved how to incorporate both young adult literature and the classics into a curriculum. A very interesting metaphor was used to describe why adolescents shouldn t read the classics. I was really able to relate to the idea of how well written young adult literature can encourage students to read and can possibly lead to reading the classics. I think that it is a great idea to pair a young adult book with a classic in order to engage reading as well as help address certain points of the classic. This idea plays well with how to encourage reluctant readers to want to read, which is the next point I will discuss. A reluctant reader is something that most teachers will have to deal with at some point in their career. It can be very difficult for some students to get into the habit of reading for pleasure, it is also common for avid readers to be in a stage where they just do not want to read. I know that some of the verses that I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count. Tamara McDowney In the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles; I viewed Oedipus as a Tragic Hero. A study by Skogan in 1990, indicates that the effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease in property values to an increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that crime will be tolerated (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as people s perceptions of neighborhood decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and that criminals will be drawn to the area because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will be tolerated or ignored. A study by DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant relationship between neighborhood disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are more likely to be completed in neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). The major questions that surround this issue is are physicians being paid fairly for their services, and are the services deserving of the costs associated with it. These questions may not be fully answered to the preference of those involved with health care. The cost of health care will always be a debatable question but in essence there needs to be some type of commission that can fairly determine cost of health care services so that all parties involved are compensated fairly. Many of Shakespeare s works are considered literary classics, but none are more loved than Romeo and Juliet. This play masterfully tells the love story of two teenagers in Elizabethan England. The title characters Romeo and Juliet are members of two feuding families, Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. There are different stylistic ways of portraying Romeo and Juliet, and the two most popular film versions portray two very different styles of this one play. Juliet is walking by the pool, when Romeo startles her and they both fall in the pool. Their conversation then takes place in the pool. In between getting interrupted by a nosy security guard they share several passionate kisses. Another significant scene that was portrayed differently in the two versions was the suicide scene. Does a person become enraged or do they take it quietly and respect the event that has occurred? In The Ox Bow Incident written by Walter Van Tilburg Clark, a cattleman named Kinkaid is murdered by rustlers . The townspeople, who all sit at a local bar occasionally, decide to make a lynch mob to venture off and find the rustlers and give them what they deserve. Once the mob starts out on the excursion, they start to fight here and there and do not get along very well. They argue about everything, especially if they think that they should take justice into their own hands after the murder. It will be determined after the book is read that the townspeople do not have a right to take justice into their own hands because the facts were not completely determined. In The Ox Bow Incident, facts are not provided right away. They don t know yet who. But somebody s been in down on Drew s range and killed Kinkaid, and they think there s cattle gone too. I recently found myself watching the movie Aladdin with my little cousin. I saw how Jasmine stood up for the poor kids in the village and also how she spoke her mind to her dad about who she had to marry. I saw how we connected in some way and how I am a lot like her. There are other characters who I am also like in other ways. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Donald Duck for his short temper, Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls for her sweetness, and Jasmine from Aladdin for her way of standing up for what s right and speaking her mind no matter who she is against. Although Donald is a duck and a guy, we do have the common aspect of losing our temper after being pushed to a certain point. In an episode on TV called Donald Duck cured duck, Donald Duck loses his temper because he can t open the window and he starts breaking plates and he even breaks through walls. Daisy Duck then tells him she won t go out on a date with him until he cures his temper. Donald Ducks temper makes his friends not want to be around him. Although his friends tend to have patience for him, in this episode Daisy Duck didn t and she refused to go out with him because of his moodiness. Since Donald is very caring and doesn t want to lose his friends he does what he can to keep his temper under control. Like Donald Duck, I do control my temper, but after being pushed too far I tend to lose it. Although I do have a lot of patience, when I do get pushed over the edge, I often get very moody. Usually when this happens my family tries to leave me alone until I can calm down on my own. For example, one day my parents and siblings had gone out to the store with my dad s side of the family. That day I wasn t feeling very good so I was allowed to stay at home, but since I am the only one that is good with children, they left all of their kids for me to take care of. • 34. Argumentative Essay On Terrorism In a new book written by Tony Blair s former chief of staff and chief negotiator in Northern Ireland, Jonathan Powell, the author of Talking to Terrorists states there is no conflict in the world that cannot be solved (p. 35). In this book, Powell draws on his wider experiences of conflict resolution to argue that terrorism nearly always ends in negotiation, and that we waste much blood and treasure in failing to recognize the need to talk to terrorists at a much earlier stage. Additionally, the former chief of staff states the problem is not talking to terrorists, it is giving in to them (p. 37), and acknowledges that there is a time to negotiate, and that time is often when a state of mutually hurting stalemate (p. 42) has been achieved. Yet, he contends, that we waste much time in regarding terrorists as irreconcilable and beyond the pale before we belatedly decide to talk. The argument against negotiation with terrorist hostage takers is simple: it rewards terrorist behavior, undermines the legitimacy of non violent political actors, and nullifies efforts to police terrorism (Faure 2003; Neumann 2007). Because hostage taking acts under terror, hostage takers will challenge legal authorities weakening and discrediting it (Faure, 2003). Governments usually prefer an alternative, like combat, because it requires no concessions, grants no legitimacy, and is consistent with the norm of punishing illegal violence (Pruitt 2007, p. 374). Indeed, when a terrorist group does not receive wide support or is not tied to an ethnic/nationalist constituency they are much less likely to survive policing and military operations. However, for those groups that do experience support, the group can be hidden, resupplied, given moral justification, and the population may contribute to the active members. Curfews, checkpoints, harsh policing efforts, and collateral damage contribute toward alienating the population away from the suspect government. Discontented people, ranging from inconvenienced to maimed, strengthen sympathy and support for insurgent/terrorist groups who are viewed increasingly justified or morally right. In other words, police and military options can easily create more support for such groups, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Urinary Tract Infections ( Cautis ) Background and Significance Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are caused by transmission of bacteria to the urinary tract via the urinary catheter during catheter insertion, via the catheter lumen, or by handling of the catheter drainage bag (Mori, 2014). Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 35% of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) and about 80% of the UTIs are related to the presence of indwelling urinary catheter (IUC). CAUTIs are a significant problem affecting the patients as well as the health care system as they are linked with increased morbidity and mortality, increased health care expenses, and extended hospitalization (Gould, 2015). CAUTIs can result to patient s complications such urethritis, urethral strictures, bloody urine, bladder obstruction and sepsis. In addition, the catheter drainage bag may be a reservoir of pathogens that can result to more critical HAIs (Apostolopoulou, 2015). Approximately 13,000 deaths are associated with UTIs every year. A total health care cost of approximately $0.4 $0.5 billion is spent for CAUTI incidences and it s complications in the United States annually. Research that has been conducted in the past has identified the fact that incarceration has many negative effects than it was previously thought. Some of them include the effect it has on the mental health of the inmates as well as the little effect it has in rehabilitating the inmates (Barnert, Perry, Morris, 2016). All this has led to people being more encouraged to look for alternatives of helping those involved to reform. This is a fact that has come down on both the federal as well as the state governments that are responsible for the maintaining of the well being of the different correctional facilities. By reducing the number of inmates in these facilities, the governments can lower the costs incurred in the long term and hence promote the use of the same funds in reforming the people in other ways. Alternatives to Incarceration There are a number of substitutes that can be considered to be alternatives to incarceration in helping to reform the people involved. The first of this is probation which is a period ordered by the court that an offender is under the supervision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Self-Esteem In The Ugly Duckling Self esteem is a huge issue in North American culture, especially within young people. Knowing this fact, it is not surprising that one of the most well known classic fairy tales, The Ugly Duckling, deals directly with the very subject. In the story, the ugly duckling goes through a significant inner transformation based largely on the way the others around him view his appearance. Since he is fully capable of keeping up and swimming along with his mother and siblings, the ugly duckling is accepted at first; however his self esteem plummets as others begin attacking and condemning him based solely on his physical appearance. The transformations from acceptance to extreme prosecution he faces, along with the eventual acceptance by the flock of swans serves to emphasize that self esteem is largely influenced by the superficial opinions of those one interacts with, rather than demonstrations of other skills ... • 44. Making Stuff Stronger Did you know that 75% of poisonous carbon monoxide emissions come from motor vehicles? By breathing in excess amounts of carbon monoxide, it can enter the bloodstream and result in severe tissue damage, lung damage and even death. Even though scientists and innovators know that motor vehicles produce over 10 different types of pollution, they still focus on enhancing strength of the vehicles rather than lowering the emissions. Improving strength is a very important part of advancing technology. Strength may be necessary but reducing pollution is of much more importance. During the first video, Making Stuff Stronger , the host, David Pogue, explored the world of strength in material. There are many different types of strength: tensile strength, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the leading causes of lung cancer is believed to be air pollution. With nearly all automobiles running on gasoline, there is a much higher chance of obtaining a life threatening disease. There are many different solutions that attempted to fix the problem of automobile pollution but only one has come close. The hydrogen fuel cell consists of two electrodes, a positively charged cathode, and a negatively charged anode. The fuel cell has an electrolyte that sends electrically charged particles from one electrode to the other. The hydrogen fuel cell is able to produce energy as long as oxygen and hydrogen are available. Hydrogen fuel cells don t produce emissions and are also able to power all motor vehicles. These special fuel cells do not cause pollution or create dangerous byproducts, their only byproducts are water and heat. In addition, a hydrogen fuel cell is way more efficient than gasoline powered engines. Most forms of transportation emit harmful emissions and cause pollution. The hydrogen fuel cell is an environmentally friendly alternative to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
