Analysis Of The Book House Rules Essay
Each character in the book House Rules is brought to life. Emma is the mother of both Jacob and
Theo; she is the foundation of the book because she makes both her sons who they are. Although Theo
is a little rebellious and gets a crumb of her attention, he has still turned out to be a reliable brother.
One can notice her passion towards the happiness of Jacob. Jodi Picoult brings Jacob s character and
illness alive, revealing both greatest and poorer qualities of Jacob. The twist to the story exhibits that
Jacob is much more than his ailment and cares for his family. The author glued all the pieces of the
book perfectly. House Rules made my heart beat a little faster when Jacob was suffering in jail and
resorted to inflicting pain on him and made my visage change expression. At the same time, it made
me laugh when Jacob waved his right hand when the judge asked him if he knew what it meant to
waive his rights. A lot of Jacobs s humor is related to the behaviors that are included with Asperger
syndrome. Jacob always quotes song lyrics and lines from movies because it calms and an exit to run
to. It is hilarious how he literally takes situations. Once, Jacob s attorney expresses that if he needs a
sensory break, he should pass a note . Furthermore, Jacob passes a note that says F# (F sharp).
Moreover, another captivating aspect of Jacob is his obsession with forensics. Though it is this
fixation that ultimately gets him in trouble, he provides interesting facts and eleven

Essay on America Needs Music Censorship
America Needs Music Censorship
Obscene: so excessive as to be offensive (http://www.webster.com/cgi bin/dictionary). This is the way
the Webster dictionary defines obscene. How do you? Some say obscene is vulgar; others say the best
way to describe obscene is through disgust. No matter how it is thought of, obscene material is
everywhere in society. Television is becoming more liberal, magazines are less edited, and music is
more abrasive. At some point, the public must put its foot down and demand censorship in order to
keep decency in the world.
Hilary Rosen, the president and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America said, The

Many artists such as Korn, Enimen, and even Jennifer Lopez carry these warning labels on the covers
to their albums.
Numerous studies indicate that a preference for heavy metal music may be a significant marker for
alienation, substance abuse, psychiatric disorders, suicide risk, sex role stereotyping, or risk taking
behaviors during adolescence (http://www.aap.org/policy/01219.html). This statement, and others like
it, has been used as a hypothesis as to why the students opened fire killing 13 and wounding 23 at
Columbine. The explicit lyrics have been thought to motivate teenagers into committing acts of
violence. Take, for example, the lyrics from a band named Drowning Pool, Push me again, this is the
end, skin against skin, blood and bone, you re all by yourself, but you re not alone, you wanted in,
now you re here, driven by hate consumed by fear, let the bodies hit the floor
(http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/drowningpool/bodies.html). This song is titled Bodies and speaks out
about committing murder because of alienation. All teenagers feel these feelings at some point while
they are growing up. While most teenagers can look to someone or something to get them through this
difficult time, some find release in music. If they are exposed to these types of lyrics, without any
rationality, the teenagers can find themselves in

Atherosclerosis
Disease of the arteries called atherosclerosis is medical condition characterized with accumulation of
fatty material on the internal walls of the blood vessels that has impact on the blood flow. Medical
experts warn that this medical condition is quite severe as it may lead to cardiac arrest, brain
hemorrhages or even death.
Doctors explain that the bad habits significantly worsen this issue, and some of the most common
mistakes are: eating a lot of fat, smoking, lack of physical activity, overweight, diabetes 1 or 2, high
blood pressure or high cholesterol levels. In addition to that, other things have influence are

Department Business Targets Into Our Daily Routines
department business targets into our daily routines. Using the MBO methodology of collaborative
planning GTPLS Gippsland operation has developed an activity based strategic plan that focuses on
our efforts towards the delivery of specific outcomes. These outcomes will in turn, lead to the
achievement of our goals and reaching the company s vision.
The success of this plan / strategy relies on a commitment to implementation and regular monitoring
of our progress no matter what we strive to achieve with the business planning process it will become
an exercise in theory unless there are mechanisms by which progress towards our stated outcomes are
reviewed and measured. To that end, the introduction of performance measurement is the key to this
plan and The Company s financial management (including contracted accountant) will be responsible
for collation of data and monitoring of business plan activities for presentation at proposed monthly
management meeting s with the key performance information being formally reported to management
and GTPLS staff at that time.
While dedicated planning is essential, rigid adherence to a faulty plan will lead to poor performance or
failure. A key aspect of successful planning is ongoing evaluation and flexibility, and it is intended
that this plan will be reviewed on a regular basis. This will ensure that all key business targets and
activities remain appropriate mechanisms for achieving both company s sales targets and strategic
goals.

Public Policy Goals For Ip Voice Services Haven
The future of VOIP could also be formed by a lot of politics. As we ve seen, the various approaches of
the EU and therefore the U.S. haven t made any form of neutral zone during which problems with
VOIP readying will be adjudged solely on their technical deserves. In the U.S., the history of linking
social and economic policies to a network centric read of the globe has caused inevitable confusion as
services become more and more application centric. And up to date steps to accommodate public
policy goals to IP voice services haven t mainly addressed the massive queries of regulative
classification. The implementation of forward looking, technologically neutral classifications in the
European Union has not made the applying of regulatory discretion immune from political support by
dominant carriers. First, through international consultation. Europe and also the U. S. (much less the
remainder of the planet, as well as the nations of Asia that lead the world in broadband deployment)
need not adopt identical rules. They will leave room for experimentation. For example, the approach
to emergency services need not be identical perhaps there is a demand for governmental mandate,
perhaps for voluntary (but ubiquitous) business action, perhaps just for government mandated shopper
notice. At the same time, some main principles like access to markets might most likely need
harmonization, as VOIP services move freely across borders. Second, by understanding the bounds of

Washington Dc For A Nation Youth Leadership Forum On...
Ever since I entered high school I have been interested in working for a federal law enforcement
agency. I have been to Washington DC for a Nation Youth Leadership Forum on National Security,
and have had the chance to meet many people from different agencies. Being able to talk to these
people about their jobs only increased my interest in this field of work. When thinking about what I
want to do in the future I would like to work as a special agent. Almost every federal agency has
careers that would allow me to do such work. The FBI, DEA and ATF are just a few of the agencies
that employ my subject. For this assignment I went and interviewed an agent for the Bureau of

secondly they value partnerships that promote safety in the community and finally they value integrity,

order for the ATF to measure their performance they developed a performance index to measure the
ten core functions that the ATF has. Those core functions include: Illegal firearms trafficking; firearms
criminal possession and use; firearms industry operations; criminal groups and gangs; explosives,
bombs and bombings; explosives industry operations; fire and arson; alcohol and tobacco;
modernizations and finally work force. The way the index works is by giving weight to each core

looking at the submission for the fiscal year 2014 they have included a summary of program changes,

Cranial Nerves
Cranial Nerves The human body is a unique and fascinating entity. There is not much notice taken of
the features the human body is capable of. The brain is necessary to perform day to day actions, such
as the ability to speak, and see amongst us. This brain is made up of simple mater (Pia mater,
Arachnoid mater, Dura mater) and the cranial surface to protect the brain. We live our daily lives
without acknowledging the importance of this organ, the brain, unless you re a medical student of
course! Despite that people go on with their daily activities using the human natural senses. Looking

The second cranial nerve is optic nerve. Optic nerves main function is vision, one of the important
senses of the human body. Allowing oneself to see around them. The cell bodies of the optic nerve are
located in the Retina (ganglion cells). Optic nerve begins with unmyelinated axons of the rentinal
ganglion cells, which later become myelinated in the optic disc. CN II enters the cranium via the optic
canal. The retina has bipolar cells that are connected to the special sensory fibers (rods and cone cells).
When light hits the rod and cone cells, electrical impulse are relayed and transmitted to the bipolar
cells. That is when the bipolar cells transmit electrical activity to the CNS through the optic nerve.
Loosing the sense of vision can be very detrimental. Some of the dysfunctions that occur with CN II
are immediate monocular blindness (partial or complete), visual field deficits, blurring, scotomata, and
monocular diplopia. There can be many possible causes for these dysfunctions to name a few,
immediate loss of vision is due to injury to optic nerve due to ischemia or death, delayed vision loss is
due to infarction of the optic nerve or less frequently by hematoma surrounding the nerve. Complete
monocular blindness is usually due to non organic disorders. Blurring and scotomata are due to trauma
to the cornea, vitreous tears, traumatically induced

Secret Sharer Masculinity
In the novella, The Secret Sharer, a novella written in 1910 by Joseph Conrad, the author explores the
character s struggle to reach their ideal conception of self and ultimately argues that men who are too
in touch with their feminine attributes struggle to appear masculine in a man s world. The Captain of
the ship struggles to maintain his ideal masculine self, but is seen as a weaker and an effeminate
character in the eyes of his crew. He is seen as a stranger to the ship but most importantly to himself.
All these people had been together for eighteen months or so, and my position was that of the only
stranger on board... I was somewhat of a stranger to myself...but I wondered how for I should turn out
faithful to that ideal conception of one s own personality (21,Conrad). Early on we see that the captain
lacks his masculinity and is not seen powerful and is insecure about his true self his effeminate
character. The captain wants to be like any other captain strong and manly, but struggles to be his ideal
self, the great and powerful captain that every ship has, a captain that holds power in the eyes of his
crew man. Other ways we see this was when the captain himself was commanded to close the porthole

Juvenile Justice System
There is no such thing as a perfect world. People of all ages are constantly committing crimes ranging
from thefts to heinous murders. An issue that has been up for debate is whether or not the justice
system can try juvenile delinquents in adult courts and sentence them to life without parole. In most
states, there are juvenile justice systems where teens are tried as a juveniles and put in juvenile
facilities. The main purpose of these facilities is to give juveniles the opportunity to rehabilitate, not to
only punish them. The issue is that juveniles are being tried as adults and placed in adult prisons.
Fortunately, the death penalty is not an option for youth offenders, but life sentence without parole is

juveniles who commit murder are raised in negative and hurtful atmospheres. The environments in

sentenced to life with the possibility of parole (NewsOne Staff). The lack of family attention for Davis
led him to believe that a gang could fit that position and fill the hole in his heart. However, it led him
to a life in a cell with no hope in being free again. Since Davis was sent to prison, he turned his life
around without the help of anyone surrounding him. He received the chance to have an education and
now he writes poetry and helps others in prison quit gangs. Davis is not eligible for parole but after
two decades in prison, he is hoping to prove that he has been rehabilitated and deserves his freedom.
Change did not come to Davis; he wanted to become a better person and changed his life around.

Southern California a killing field, as they would say. What makes them so special is that they will

When he opened the driver door he simply said, No absolutely not . I was relentless and begged him to

Poverty And The Inner City
Poverty has been a consistent problem throughout the history of the world. Despite the wealth of a
country, there will always be people who are homeless and hungry. Poverty carries many different
definitions, but one that truly encompasses all of its effects is, the unfulfillment of basic human need
required to adequately sustain life free from disease, misery, hunger, pain, suffering, hopelessness, and
fear (Julio, 76). Even though the United is one of the most prosperous countries in the world, it is not
immune to poverty. In 2014, 46.7 million people (15%) were in poverty in the United States. This is
no small issue, and one that we as Christians are called to combat. In the United States poverty is a
national problem, however, it is most prevalent in the inner cities. The inner city is defined as, A
general term for impoverished areas of large cities. The inner city is characterized by minimal
educational opportunities, high unemployment and crime rates, broken families, and inadequate
housing (Dictionary.com). Although, according to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC),
absolute poverty is higher in the suburbs than in the inner cities, affecting 11 million people compared
to 8 million people in the inner cities, poverty is still concentrated in the inner cities and is more
prevalent there. The inner cities comprise less than 1% of land area versus the suburbs which comprise
17% of total land area nearly 100x that of inner cities. Overall, 3 in 10

Communication Is The Greatest Asset Of Civilization
Communication is the greatest asset of civilization. It is through our ability to understand and convey
thoughts that we are able to cooperate for the good of our community, whether it be local or global.
Because communication holds so much power it must also be used with care. If used unwisely,
communication has the ability to destroy relationships and make cooperation impossible. The six
barriers of communication will be discussed in the following paragraphs and they are cliché, jargon,
slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Cliché is what happens when a
saying that once held great power has fallen into disuse. Due to repetition all great sayings tend to lose
their luster, just as a joke is hardly ever as funny as the first time it was heard. One example of this is
you ll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Though there may be a valuable point here it is
often lost because no one wants to catch flies and most people are too caught up on the strangeness of
the saying to truly consider the wisdom of its message. Jargon is the language of academia or other
groups that use vocabulary that is specific to their particular area of expertise. The vast majority of the
population are unfamiliar with this range of vocabulary. Some people may try to use it in an attempt to
sound more intelligent to lay folk, though they will only manage to insult such an audience and
possibly inspire hatred or loathing. Medicine is a good example of where

Reason In Tartuffe
Michelle Dixon
Response Paper #3
February 18, 2015 The seventeenth century play Tartuffe, by French writer Molière, is essentially
governed by the central theme of reason. Molière illustrates the importance of reason and logic by
highlighting it in some of the main characters, and exaggerating lack thereof in others. Like many
other French works from the seventeenth century, he emphasizes the significance of having the ability
to reason, and in doing so brings attention to the religious hypocrisy associated with this period of
enlightenment. Although he focuses on this theme through most of the characters in the play, I feel
that Dorine and Clèante are the two characters that essentially serve to represent or personify the voice
of reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the entire play, Clèante s calm and careful observations and rational suggestions serve to
illustrate that he is both knowledgeable and reasonable. His sensibility and rationality is exemplified
in his statement to Damis that the King will put a stop to people who use violence to get their way
(195). In this statement, Clèante is urging Damis to show some self control, and this conveys that
Clèante s character serves as an example of maturity and good reasoning to others. For the duration of
the play, Clèante gives advice to several characters, and ultimately reminds them all to show mercy to
Tartuffe, despite his hypocrisy and deceitfulness. He says, He feels quite bad enough no need to
remonstrate. Its better you should hope that what s been done today will coax his wayward heart to
follow virtue s way (206). In this statement, it is apparent that Clèante s character is a symbol of
reason, for despite Tartuffe s trickery, Clèante maintains his sensibility, and convinces the others to do
so as

A Film On The Melting Ice Caps Essay
Reina of Antarctica
I propose a film on the melting ice caps, using the character Reina as the reason that they are melting.
She will be the reason for melting the ice caps due to humans came to her home and drill for oil where
she lives. I chose to have both Greek and Japanese mythology because I thought it would be a great
idea to see how the two cultures will come together. Since both countries are known by many people
all around the world and because they are surrounded by the sea these two countries would be the first
to be swallowed by the sea that surrounds then due to the melted ice caps. The ending is supposed to
represent the ice caps still melting now. The government that is going to sponsor the drilling company
will be the English because the English are newer at drilling than the United States, since they are new
at drilling they were exploited by the company.
Antarctica, extremely cold and the home of penguins, and huge icebergs. The home of the princess of
the cold, Reina. She wears what a normal teenager may wear during the summer. Yet, it is during the
winter and she doesn t mind it. It is during the third quarter of year, so it is extremely cold and 72
degrees Fahrenheit. She is friends with all the animals near her home. She is a beautiful young woman
who transforms into a monster when she is upset.
Reina is always confused with a Greek goddess due to how beautiful she is, yet she was made into a
monster by Hera, wife of Zeus and the goddess of child

Waste Glass Aggregate Concrete Countertop
RESEARCH PROPOSAL
RESEARCH TITLE: Durability of waste glass aggregate concrete countertop INTRODUCTION A
Wall Street Journal article once reported that some cities in the US are pulling back from the recycling
of waste glass. The sustainability officer for the town of Montclair, N.J, was mentioned in the report
saying; glass has become the scourge of recycling, and money can t be made from it. This problem
associated with waste glass could be resolved through seeking profitable alternative uses for the waste
glass. Using the waste glass as an aggregate in concrete countertops is one of those alternatives. Waste
glass as an aggregate in concrete designs like countertops would not only be a profitable creative
application of waste glass, but also promotes its uses in producing an environmentally friendly product
design.
Concrete is one of the oldest and durable composite materials in building and construction
engineering. Its importance cannot be overestimated. However, some of its traditional aggregates
release a lot of carbon dioxide to the environment during production. In broadening the use of
concrete as internal household design like countertops, exploiting the potentials of crushed waste glass
as a substitute for the carbon dioxide emitting aggregate is reasonable step towards a greener and
healthy environment. The objectives of this research are; using waste crushed glass as a partial
replacement for

The Development Of Artificial Intelligence In Frankenstein...
The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has progressed through today s modern society and is
becoming more prevalent. AI is a manmade program with processes which retrieve information to
adjust the program to better fit the user. Historically, American society s image of AI has developed
using literary works and the film industry in order for most people to get an exaggerated explanation
of AI. For example, in Mary Shelly s Frankenstein, Doctor Victor Frankenstein creates a monster that
becomes increasingly capable of feelings and develops by learning from others. The novel itself has
been interpreted multiple times, yet this monster is still considered as AI due to the monster learning
information to become a more humanlike being. Mary Shelly s novel is one literary piece that has
slowly developed the image of AI in society. Today, technology is becoming more advanced as
independent companies are creating and developing their new, unique ideas. Automobile companies,
such as The Ford Motor Company, are currently in the process of creating self driving vehicles,
implementing AI into cars. These cars are becoming more developed and advertised within American
communities, and the cars are the topic of debate within the scientific and ethical based philosophical
communities. As society continues to develop AI, humans are becoming more obsolete. When people
become more obsolete, they become unable to contribute to society due to the lack of activity. This is

the bones were used as building materials and tools. British and American vessels pursued the
bowhead whale in Hudson Bay for just over half a century before bringing the whale stock close to
extinction. During this period whaling exerted a powerful, sustained influence upon the Eskimo, who
had hitherto enjoyed only sporadic and irregular contact with passing explorers and distant trading
posts. ( Ross, W. G. 1975) Because whalers coming, the life of Eskimo had many changes. May to
September are the best time to whaling, after this there are the long (ten month) period of inactivity.
Long time stay in harbors facilitated prolonged contact with the Eskimos. The Eskimo became
indispensable to the whalemen, assisting in whaling, hunting and overland travel. At the same time,
the whalemen came to be a port of the new Eskimo life. A way of life in which firearms, whaleboats
and a wide variety of imported goods played an increasingly important role. This economic
interdependence constituted the foundation of the Eskimo whalemen relation. ( Ross, W. G. 1975)
Furthermore, whale not the only one target for the whalemen. When hunting with Arctic, whalers
came across many different animals such as polar bears, walruses, musk oxen and birds. Some were
brought home for sale to the zoo, and this is the main reason why many animals which live in the
Arctic came to Britain. However, some polar bears were killed. Polar bears were killed by rifles;

company s mission statement, responsibilities, and organizational design are big factors to a company
when it comes to your customers, employees, and recognition. If I was a dog sitter service company I

reliable and trustworthy for the pet owners and pets. It gives people the visual on what to expect from

Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces
A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius
Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The
correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a
specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality,
and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She
really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors
to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time
completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a
comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic
medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again,
pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she
really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being
fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets
a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes).

My Dad was more the seat of the pants type. If my mother was the classical music type in cooking,
my Dad was the improvisational jazz type. I don t think he ever followed a recipe in his entire life. He

Depression In William Wordsworth
I have been seeing three new patients recently, all Romantic poets who appear to be suffering from
various levels of melancholy. Although each one of these poets is highly successful and influential in
the Romantic Movement, each has experienced bouts of dejection, loneliness, and disillusionment
with reality. However, this melancholy seems different from cases I have encountered in the past.
Strangely, none of these clients show symptoms of the excessive black bile that typically associated
with melancholy such as apathy, lack of motivation, and hopelessness (Brady, Haapala). In fact, while
all of these clients experience melancholic thoughts, these emotions appear to be more complex than
depression as they allow the pleasures of deep reflection and often lead to feelings of sublime joy and
inspiration. Instead of suffering from a clinical form of melancholy or depression, these clients appear
to be experiencing a complex emotion of joypain which they believe has the capacity to reveal the
infinite powers of the self or the imagination (Murray, 722). Yet, while all of these poets seem to
believe in the importance of melancholy as inspiration for their work, each of these poets also seems
to express this emotion in different ways. While one of these poets, Mr. William Wordsworth, often
turns his negative ruminations into positive reflections on nature and memory, Mr. Coleridge instead
experiences deeper melancholic moments that he cannot dispel quite so easily. Mr. John

Chronicle of a Death Untold by Gabriel García Márquez
TQ: To what extent do the Machismo and Marianismo ideals act as a catalyst to the plot of Chronicle
of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez?
Honor over Love Honor can be earned and built throughout years of work and commitment but lost in
just one single action. When looking at many Latin American cultures it is the women s duty to
preserve the honor, and the male s job to protect it if there is ever a threat. The social ideologies of
machismo and marianismo act as a source of pressure to follow through the different events and
conflicts that took place in the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The
standards held to men and women, along with multiple examples of the ideologies present in the book
assist in the revelation of how much the social norm and peer pressure effect a person s decisions. The
Columbian town Marquez transports the reader to appears no different than the rest of Latin American

marianismo the standard women are held against to be pure and preserve their family, and their own,

Eardrum Rupture Research Paper
Eardrum Rupture, Adult
An eardrum rupture is a hole (perforation) in the eardrum. The eardrum is a thin, round tissue inside of
the ear that separates the ear canal from the middle ear. The eardrum is also called the tympanic
membrane. It transfers sound vibrations through small bones in the middle ear to the hearing nerve in
the inner ear. It also protects the middle ear from germs. An eardrum rupture can cause pain and
hearing loss.
CAUSES
Eardrum rupture results from a sudden injury (trauma). This may be caused by:
Inserting a thin, sharp object into the ear canal.
Getting a blow to the side of the head, especially with an open hand.
Having a sudden increase in pressure against the eardrum, such as from an explosion or a ... Show

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of this condition include:
Sudden pain at the time of the injury.
Ringing in the ear or dizziness after the injury.
Bleeding from the ear.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition is diagnosed based on your symptoms and medical history as well as a physical exam.
Your health care provider can usually see a perforation using an ear scope (otoscope). You may have
other tests, such as having a hearing test (audiogram) to check for hearing loss.
TREATMENT
Typically, the eardrum will heal on its own within a few weeks. If your eardrum does not heal, your
health care provider may recommend a procedure to place a patch over your eardrum or surgery to
repair your eardrum.
HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Keep your ear dry. This is very important. Follow your health care provider s instructions on how to
keep your ear dry. These may include wearing waterproof earplugs when bathing or swimming.

Comparing Egypt And Mesopotamia
Egyptian and Sumerian religions developed differently because their respective geographic
environments caused them to hold divergent views of their lives. Since the geography in Sumer and
Egypt was different, they held different views about their gods and beliefs. Even though they were two
of the first civilizations, they developed different beliefs about their religion.
The rivers and land were in both Sumer and Mesopotamia, a big part of the development of their
views on religion. Mesopotamia was known as the land between two rivers because they were
surrounded by the Euphrates and Tigris River. Annually the rivers would flood fertilizing Sumer s
land. Sumerians took advantage of the floods to help fertilize their land but also knew that when big
floods occurred the gods were sending a punishment of their wrong doings. ... Show more content on

The Egyptians thought of this as a place of fear, terror and death. It was known as Deshret which

Impact Of Technology On Our Modern World
One small step for technology, one large step for mankind
Take a moment and look around you. What do you see? Most likely you are surrounded by
technology. This new phenomenon is a vital part in the modern world. The domination of technology
has engulfed our culture, it has become a large portion of our everyday life and the way that we
function. Three authors; Christine Rosen, Lakshmi Chaudhry, and Jim Taylor, have illustrated the
foundations of technology on our modern world. They have all taken sides on the cultural alterations,
social effects, and distortion of our true identity due to technology.
It is thought that social Media is a way to portray yourself and your life online so that others can easily
access it; to comment, like, or share your life events. It is a way of being social without truly seeing
that person. According to Rosen, social media resembles a modern manipulation, in a way that we
portray what we want others to see and can distort the true essence of our being. The easy accessibility
of social media it has allowed our culture to flourish in ways it has never before. Providing that
technology has become so easily accessible, it has allowed one to effortlessly alternate and updates
their social media. But this accessibility has caused a social anxiety in its user, causing a need to be
like others; to be cool, or known. This idea of fame has made our generation of social media users
monotonous and analogous.

Lawyers would say that Europe, Asia, and the United States of America are completely different.
However, from the point of view of the citizens, the similarities in their daily lives are numerous, even
if some fundamental differences remain. To begin with the most obvious similarity and example: in
the USA, as well as in parts of Europe, citizens use a single currency, identical to the currency of their
neighboring States. Just as in Europe, in the USA, several decisions remain the responsibility of the
states, such as highway code, certain taxes, social welfare, minimum wages, and certain areas of

It should not be unforeseen that the Bolsheviks worked hard to safeguard that any person potentially
antagonistic to them did not retain arms. The first Soviet gun controls were enacted during the Russian
Civil War, as Czarists, Western troops, and national independence movements fought the central Red
regime. Firearm registration was instituted on April 1, 1918. In October 1918, the Council of People s
Commissars (the government) ordered the renunciation of all firearms, ammunition, and sabers. As
has been the case in nearly every nation where firearms registration has been introduced, registration
proved a preamble to confiscation. Excused from the confiscation order, however, were affiliates of
the Communist Party. A 1920 decree imposed a obligatory minimum penalty of six months in prison
for non Communist possession of a firearm, even where there was no felonious intent. After the Red
triumph in the Civil War, the firearm laws were consolidated in a Criminal Code, which if broken,
unauthorized possession of a firearm would be punishable by rigid labor. A 1925 law made
unauthorized possession of a firearm punishable by three months of hard labor, plus a fine of 300
rubles (equal to about four months wages for a highly paid construction worker). Stalin apparently
found little need to alternate the weapons control structure he had inherited. This chapter of Lethal
Laws summarizes the genocide perpetrated by Stalin from 1929 to 1953, starting with his efforts to
collectivize farming by destroying the class of property owning farmers. Altogether, about twenty
million people were murdered, worked to death in slave labor camps, or deliberately starved to death
by Stalin s government. Stalin s successful campaign of genocide against the Kulaks and against

Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight, And Thomas...
Knights often had a certain chivalry code that they had to follow, in (Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight) and (Morte D Arthur) by Sir Thomas Malory their are examples of chivalry. Knights often had
a certain code they had to follow usually relating to religion, moral, and social code. This system kept
the knights usually under strict order. The knights had many expectations for following this certain
code, and many of them took it seriously. In (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) and (Morte D Arthur)
there s three main points that knights must follow for their chivalry code, religion, moral, and
protecting women.
The first example of the chivalry code is in (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) where the knight has

The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby Essay
The Importance of George Wilson in The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is a superbly written and an intrinsically captivating novel that
deals with the decline of the American Dream and how vapid the upper class is. To illustrate and
capture the essence of these themes, Fitzgerald uses characters Gatsby, who epitomizes the actual
American Dream, and Daisy, who is based on the ideal girl. Yet, as these characters grasp the topics
Fitzgerald wants to convey, there is something inherently like missing from the story as a whole. To
fill this void, Fitzgerald utilizes minor characters as a means to move the plot along, develop
characters further, and build upon the themes present in the novel. One such ... Show more content on

The paradox here is that Tom is, in a sense, George himself as Tom s wife, Daisy, is in the process of
being taken away from him.
As seen with the aforementioned example, Wilson also plays a role that involves parallelism. His
situation parallels Tom s, as both have their wives being stolen. His situation parallels Gatsby s in both
their idealization of Myrtle and Daisy, respectively. Both of these patterns serve to emphasize the
character flaws in Tom and Gatsby and ultimately in the superficial lifestyle presented in the novel.
While all previous cases of Wilson have been employed as a means of further developing characters.
Complementing this role, Wilson also plays a noteworthy part in plot development. Following the

Spooky Superstitions In The 21st Century
Spooky Superstitions Step on a crack and you will break your mother s back, a long ago, superstition
but yet is still heard in the 21st century. Today lots of the things humans use has been through both
innovation and science, but yet people still are wary of superstitions even though most have been
disproven. The 5 main superstitions that are still prevalent in the 21st century are buildings not having
a 13th floor, opening an umbrella inside, saying bless you, naming boats, and the most recently big
one, that in 2012 the world would end. When looking at the first superstition that buildings do not
have a 13th floor the origin story is very interesting mainly because it does not have its own origin
story but because it stems from another superstition. This superstition is the number 13 and how it is
an unlucky number. The origin of the number 13 is when looking at history 12 was considered a
perfect number, the ancient Sumerians developed a numeral system based on the use of 12 and it was

Just like many ancient civilizations, the Babylonians creation myth and cosmogonic myth were the
approximately 1100 lines of an epic poem referred to as the Enuma Elish.
Dating as far back as Babylon circa, 1200 BCE, the transcripts are therefore set long before time,
when only chaos reigned supreme. Indeed the manuscript describes a heroic battle between Marduk
the Babylonian patron god and Tiamat the alleged godmother of all living. Consequently, the poem
heralds a vivid description of the original god Apsu and goddess Mummu Tiamat, the amalgamation
of two water bodies to create all the other gods as well as thereafter the patron god Marduk. Tiamat
then begins to give birth to monsters that terrify the gods because they are powerful and indomitable.

power, Marduk used Tiamat s dead body to create the firmament between the heaven and the earth, in
addition to the earth as well as Sheol and the blood of her general to create man. Though the role of
the Enuma Elish was for the ancient Babylonians to understand how creation came to be, they
believed it as fact. Furthermore, it gave them a purpose and an elucidation of how they came to ...

The American Revolution and India s Independence Movement...
Systems of governance and authority can have a profound influence on the development of human

Challenges to that authority through violent and nonviolent revolution can have significant
consequences, including the collapse and replacement of whole systems of governance. Both the
American Revolution and the Indian Independence Movement gained their ... Show more content on

Bad Character In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Not everything is how it seems. Even though we see a murderer on the lose for being the bad character
, is he really the only one? A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor is a multiple
prospective story featuring the good and the bad. This entire dysfunctional family does not get along,
from the younger children talking back, to even the dad and the mom not being interested in anything.
But the one who stands out the most is the pessimistic grandmother who is extremely self absorbed.
Then there is the Misfit, a murderer who escaped jail. But with all that being said, who really seems
like the bad character in this story. The obvious Misfit, the abrogating grandmother or the whole
family? Despite the family not getting along in the beginning, during the end they died reunited
leaving the grandmother as a dark forest compared to her family s sunny cloudless day. ... Show more

None of them got along from arguing all day to never agreeing on anything, but it was clear that the
grandmother was the odd one out. When thinking of a grandmother you may expect them to be joyful
and ecstatic. However, this was not the case with this grandmother, she could not even settle on a
place to go for vacation, let alone just being happy for once. Later in the story, the murderer on the
loose, the Misfit had the family go into the dark forest and had the grandmother stand out in the
cloudless sunny day. It symbolized the grandmother s personality as if it came to the light . Oddly, he
seemed to be the only one that caught on to her relentless act of being pure , She would have been a
good woman ... if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life (O Connor, 242).
In other words, this is ironic coming from a murderer talking about an old lady. Nonetheless, it does
make someone think twice about her authenticity and who she may really compare

  • 2. Analysis Of The Book House Rules Essay Each character in the book House Rules is brought to life. Emma is the mother of both Jacob and Theo; she is the foundation of the book because she makes both her sons who they are. Although Theo is a little rebellious and gets a crumb of her attention, he has still turned out to be a reliable brother. One can notice her passion towards the happiness of Jacob. Jodi Picoult brings Jacob s character and illness alive, revealing both greatest and poorer qualities of Jacob. The twist to the story exhibits that Jacob is much more than his ailment and cares for his family. The author glued all the pieces of the book perfectly. House Rules made my heart beat a little faster when Jacob was suffering in jail and resorted to inflicting pain on him and made my visage change expression. At the same time, it made me laugh when Jacob waved his right hand when the judge asked him if he knew what it meant to waive his rights. A lot of Jacobs s humor is related to the behaviors that are included with Asperger syndrome. Jacob always quotes song lyrics and lines from movies because it calms and an exit to run to. It is hilarious how he literally takes situations. Once, Jacob s attorney expresses that if he needs a sensory break, he should pass a note . Furthermore, Jacob passes a note that says F# (F sharp). Moreover, another captivating aspect of Jacob is his obsession with forensics. Though it is this fixation that ultimately gets him in trouble, he provides interesting facts and eleven ... The six barriers of communication will be discussed in the following paragraphs and they are cliché, jargon, slang, sexist and racist language, euphemisms, and doublespeak. Cliché is what happens when a saying that once held great power has fallen into disuse. Molière illustrates the importance of reason and logic by highlighting it in some of the main characters, and exaggerating lack thereof in others. Like many other French works from the seventeenth century, he emphasizes the significance of having the ability to reason, and in doing so brings attention to the religious hypocrisy associated with this period of enlightenment. For the duration of the play, Clèante gives advice to several characters, and ultimately reminds them all to show mercy to Tartuffe, despite his hypocrisy and deceitfulness. He says, He feels quite bad enough no need to remonstrate. Its better you should hope that what s been done today will coax his wayward heart to follow virtue s way (206). • 25. Analysis Of A Confederacy Of Dunces A standout amongst relationships in modern literature is the strange relationship between Ignatius Reilly and Myrna Minkoff, the two dunces in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of Dunces. The correspondence between them keeps running all through the novel. In the beginning, Ignatius feels a specific quality of predominance over her, yet she feels that he has put some distance between reality, and she proposes to start to control his activities. Ignatius wants to beat Myrna at her own game. She really cares about him, even writing her thoughts on how to better his life. In three separate endeavors to calm her unwavering feedback and recommendations, he considers her advice, each time completely failing and causing more trouble for himself. However, toward the end of the novel, in a comedic irony, she spares him from mental and physical imprisonment. Ignatius is a Catholic medievalist who rejects the cutting edge world and all its decline (or so he says). Myrna, then again, pursues each hipster person occurrence and pattern. She is fixated on sex less on the grounds that she really needs to engage in sexual relations constantly, it just seems that in light of the fact that being fixated on sex is the thing to do in this modern world. Thus, she grasps cutting edge activism and gets a progression of small crushes on guys who appear to be activists (who all end up being fakes). He would go to the kitchen, begin looking at what we had and create something. You never knew what you were going to get but it was usually pretty good. They were able to do this because, while they may have had a different way to go about it, they both still had to follow the rules of , the physics of cooking. They both knew if you wanted something to taste good, and to be consistent you had to have the same ingredients. Every time. • 27. Depression In William Wordsworth I have been seeing three new patients recently, all Romantic poets who appear to be suffering from various levels of melancholy. Although each one of these poets is highly successful and influential in the Romantic Movement, each has experienced bouts of dejection, loneliness, and disillusionment with reality. However, this melancholy seems different from cases I have encountered in the past. Strangely, none of these clients show symptoms of the excessive black bile that typically associated with melancholy such as apathy, lack of motivation, and hopelessness (Brady, Haapala). In fact, while all of these clients experience melancholic thoughts, these emotions appear to be more complex than depression as they allow the pleasures of deep reflection and often lead to feelings of sublime joy and inspiration. Instead of suffering from a clinical form of melancholy or depression, these clients appear to be experiencing a complex emotion of joypain which they believe has the capacity to reveal the infinite powers of the self or the imagination (Murray, 722). Yet, while all of these poets seem to believe in the importance of melancholy as inspiration for their work, each of these poets also seems to express this emotion in different ways. While one of these poets, Mr. William Wordsworth, often turns his negative ruminations into positive reflections on nature and memory, Mr. Coleridge instead experiences deeper melancholic moments that he cannot dispel quite so easily. Honor over Love Honor can be earned and built throughout years of work and commitment but lost in just one single action. When looking at many Latin American cultures it is the women s duty to preserve the honor, and the male s job to protect it if there is ever a threat. The social ideologies of machismo and marianismo act as a source of pressure to follow through the different events and conflicts that took place in the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The standards held to men and women, along with multiple examples of the ideologies present in the book assist in the revelation of how much the social norm and peer pressure effect a person s decisions. Three authors; Christine Rosen, Lakshmi Chaudhry, and Jim Taylor, have illustrated the foundations of technology on our modern world. It is thought that social Media is a way to portray yourself and your life online so that others can easily access it; to comment, like, or share your life events. It is a way of being social without truly seeing that person. According to Rosen, social media resembles a modern manipulation, in a way that we portray what we want others to see and can distort the true essence of our being. As has been the case in nearly every nation where firearms registration has been introduced, registration proved a preamble to confiscation. A 1920 decree imposed a obligatory minimum penalty of six months in prison for non Communist possession of a firearm, even where there was no felonious intent.
