How And Why Did The Northwest Company Come Into Existence
1) How and why did the Northwest Co. come into existence? Where was it based out of? Who
operated it? How did they compete with the HBC?
The Northwest company was a rival fur trading company to the Hudson s Bay Company. The
company was the HBC S biggest competition when the NWC was in partnership with nine other fur
trading companies. The Northwest company was ran from 1779 to 1821 and was based on Montreal.
Both companies HBC and the NWC were both eager to take over the fur trade and resulted in a rivalry
the NWC also lost a major trading post at Sault Ste, Marie ian was a severe set back. Over the next
few years the sustainability of the company was slim so many major partners left the company. In
1820 the company s successful existence was slim so the shareholders had to agree to a Merger with
the Hudson s Bay company. They competed with the HBC in many ways with trading post locations,
trading tactics and alliances.
2) How was the Northwest Company different from the HBC in how they operated and existed?

The NWC traveled inland through the St. Lawrence river and the great lakes. Although this was was
away from the HBC the route was much longer, took more time and was more expensive. The
business cycle took approximately 2 years. Another way the NWC operated difference is in their ways
of trading. The NWC moved from place to place to trade, establishing trading relationships with
people like the Metis while the Hudson Bay Company had people come to them, they had a chain of
forts and depended on the natives to arrive with furs. A big difference between the two companies was
in the way of management . The answer if the NWC worked and all employes were partners. The

Mark Edmundson And Paulo Freire
Although Mark Edmundson and Paulo Freire believe that a higher form of education such as, a
stronger teaching ethics, deeper understanding, and more passionate students is needed to correct the
issues at hand. In their essay they both adopt a different style to present tis idea. Paulo Freire wants the
individual to form himself rather than be formed. To this end, he proposes that educational topics or
opportunities be taken from the daily experience the individual constantly encounters and avoid the
current educational pitfall of resorting to artificial experiences. While, Edmundson is trying to show
how education has change due to the leak of consumerism into universities. Edmundson acknowledge
his own conformity and promise to change back to what he thinks will make a good class and
challenge his students to think on another level.
Paulo Freire dwells on the idea that a teacher s task is to simplify fill a student s mind. He describes
the banking concept as a habitual learning process where the teachers oppress the knowledge that they
considered important on the student by supplying the student with the material and not given them the
opportunity to question the material presented. Freire states; that In the banking concept of education,
knowledge is a gift bestowed by those who considered themselves knowledgeable upon those whom
they considered to know nothing. Projecting an absolute ignorance onto others, a characteristic of the
ideology of oppression, negates

Understanding Health Care Systems
Introduction After reading the article on Work System Analysis: The Key to Understanding Health
Care Systems , discuss one or more principles and methods for analyzing systems and how they might
help healthcare administrators and clinicians properly analyze their units or facilities. Make sure you
discuss the proper steps for executing the work system analysis.
Work System Analysis: The Key to Understanding Health Care Systems System analysis can help
manage and reduce risks by identifying hazards so they can be controlled through good design. That
is, in order to improve safety, quality, performance, and comfort, a good place to start is by analyzing

To understand the system, it is essential to know how to analyze it. Industrial and human factors
engineering work system analysis methods provide a set of tools that can be used to analyze health
care systems. The increase in the use and popularity of human factors in health care can be traced to
successes of human factors in fields such as mining, nuclear power, manufacturing, and aviation.
Although these industries have successfully used human factors for decades, adoption of human
factors tools and methodologies in health care has been slow. Human factors engineering methods and
design guidelines have been slowly adopted in health care for some of the same reasons that health
care is thought to have safety problems. Most prominent is the expectation that health care
professionals will perform perfectly, which has resulted in a heavy focus on addressing individual
performance versus system design. Cook and others wrote, The conventional view is that the [health
care] system is safe by design but can be degraded by the failure of its human components. From this
perspective, all medical errors and adverse events are somebody s fault. In other words, a health care
professional is more likely to get redesigned (retrained) than the

Essay on Campaign Finance Issues
GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
We are not a democracy, yet we do have a voice in our own government. Elections are the choice
microphones for many citizens. There on Election Day, they have the right of making their voices
heard; however, many interest groups and a few individuals seem to have a louder voice due to
campaign financing:
No U.S. official should be beholden to one or a few groups. And no group or individual should have a
greater claim on our elected leaders than any other. That s the way it should work. But it is growing
clear to more and more Americans that it doesn t (McCarthy 24).
Recently, it has been the trend to try to make sure the opinions and concerns of minorities are duly
noted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Money is the most degrading, corrupting force in American politics today (McCarthy xi).
The idea behind fundraising for elections was a success at first, giving donors another way to voice
their opinions and open up the doors for communication once the elected officials fully realized who
they owed their position to. However, this went too far. Those whose candidate did not win were left
with an official who will accept the ideas of a past donor before any others. This favoritism, while
beneficial to certain donors, proves damaging to others. Also, when before, all donated and spoke their
mind, now only certain groups and people donate and not even all of them speak their mind. The
individual doesn t count anymore (McCarthy 25).
THE HYPOTHESIS
Now that I have given about three pages of background information on the political processes, now
would be a good time to introduce my Representative. Ken Bentsen represents the 25TH District of
Texas. He is a democrat and has served as representative since 1991. I actually have a few theories
regarding the reasons he voted the way he did and why certain groups financially supported his
campaign. Scholars for thousands of years have pondered the question of whether it was the chicken
or the egg, which came first. In the case of campaigning and finance, such seems to be the question.
Because voters had the opportunity of watching his career before 1996, it s practically impossible to
be able to tell

The Concept Of Virtual Private Network
Executive Summary
The report focuses on the concept of virtual private network. Virtual private network enables remote
connections without the need of cables or leased wires. It leverages the capability of public
network(i.e. the internet) to provide remote connections between different sites globally.
Further, the report introduces the scope and objectives of Design Sheet metal private limited, the
organisation which is trying to expand its operations throughout the Australian continent. The report
proposes the implementation of virtual private network technology through CISCO AnyConnect
Secure Mobility. There is a coherent relationship identified between the objectives of Design Sheet
Metal and the benefits realised by VPN ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technically, VPN extends the concept of Local area network, where the main LAN at the company
headquarters is connected to multiple LANs in different company locations and individual users
(Protocols, 2008). Most organizations develop an intranet, which is an internal network used only by
company employees. It allowed all the employees to have one single access point for company
resources and updates. Implementing a VPN allowed remote users to access the intranet from any
location or even their homes (Tyson Crawford, 2015).
Design Sheet Metal
Design Sheet Metal Pty Ltd is a manufacturing and packaging company which provides leading
supply of flashings and rainwater products. Established in 2003, the company has the reputation for
providing quality products and has one of the fastest turnaround times i.e. less than 24 hours.
Currently, it is looking to expand to all parts of Australia beyond the current locations, namely,
Bendigo, Ballarat, Mornington and Bellarine Peninsula, Geelong and Melbourne CBD.
They provide delivery to 70 80 sites on a daily basis and would like to keep up the same level of
service in different Australian states. The office Head Quarters will be based in Melbourne with the
officials travelling to the different sites on occasions for recording, monitoring and evaluating the
ongoing progress for expansion (Metal, 2015).

John Renfro Servant Leadership
Part 2 Leadership Review
Pastor Renfro, as he is known by those who have had the pleasure to meet him, defines servant
leadership as one of the many models of ministry, each of which describes how a particular minister
understands his/her role and approach to ministry as a vocation, and a way of life. Dr. John Renfro is
currently senior chaplain at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina. He grew up in
simple, rural South Carolina in Spartanburg County, and he benefitted from a family who had a
personal deep connection with God. His simplistic beginning provides the anchor of stability in a
turbulent world for his family and those whom he offers ministry. Pastor Renfro has felt that ministry
grows out of life, the life of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to be with people where they are without the need to fix them, rather, trusting God to do what
He is doing in their lives, hoping that He uses me as part of the process. I know that I will be learning
and growing with those whom God sends me. Pastor Renfro was then asked how has he evolved or
grown as a servant leader. He responded, Each of us follows a circuitous, sometimes difficult pathway
in ministry, we learn, we grow, we become more aware of ourselves as people and as ministers. I am a
country preacher, and although I have a wealth of formal education and training, I continue to grow
and evolve daily, as a person, and as a minister. Renfro continues, the most difficult thing to overcome
is our own tendency to be ostentatious a lack of genuineness and openness; you need to go deep in
faith and in ministry; my own history, as a country preacher, took a great deal of energy to integrate
and allow this to be my greatest strength. When asked what he believed are the
advantages/disadvantages of being a servant leader, Renfro responded, a strength and advantage
would be to possess a non judgmental presence, to allow people to be the who, what, and where they
need to be in our encounters; the disadvantage in that is some people might consider this position as
too indeterminate, lacking in absolutes. Renfro commented on the partnerships he has forged in his
life of servant leadership, starting with being a Clinical Pastor Supervisor (certified to teach at the
graduate level), a Diplomate of the College of Pastoral Supervision, a nationally certified Professional
Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, and also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of

Why Should Books Be Banned In Schools
What would you do if a school let your kindergartener read a provocative book? What if a book about
becoming transgender was read for story time for first graders? Are you willing to let your child be
exposed to that at such a young age? I know that I m not, so I stand with censoring and banning books.
If books are inappropriate, children simply should not have access to them in a public or school
library. I think that if a book is banned, it is banned for a good reason. Furthermore, I think that the
process of censorship of books is perfect, for it needs to be strict enough in order to keep children and
adults safe from unsuitable books. Of course, everyone has the freedom to read whatever they want,
but they can do that in their own home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children would have the wrong things in their young minds instead of things like the alphabet or the
number system. To replace the sweet, developing stories, children s minds will be stimulated with
terrible politics, social issues, and other mature themes. According to a TIMES article, Banned Books:
A School Librarian s Perspective, a the librarian, Sharon Coatney, believes that all libraries should
always put the child s education first. I think that school libraries can do that by providing educational
resources and books for the children. However, Coatney feels that, Our students should not be denied
to the materials they need. She also thinks that by having inappropriate censorship are providing
discriminated readers. However, if we weren t able to ban any scandalous books, what would be the
point of having censorship? Censorship helps keep libraries in check with appropriate books, and if
you really need to read a certain books that is not available, most of these books are still able to be
bought on Amazon or on a pdf. To conclude, the idea of censorship for books is great in order to keep
the books young and old people read appropriate and

The Secret Lives of The Brain
PART I. Incognito: The Secret Lives of The Brain, was very straight forward and extremely intriguing.
As David Eagleman, a neuroscientist, elaborates on the American criminal justice system, he brings
out important factors that I believe everyone should be focusing on in this country. He states that our
actions are not only made up by our unconscious mind, but the way we perceive things is controlled
by our unconscious ability to even realize we are controlling it. The conscious mind not only
represents only a small part of our brain activity and function, but it also perceives certain behaviors
differently when constructed with drugs or damage The process of the unconscious brain activity
differs from the conscious part but they both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David Eagleman explained in detail how the cognitive brain works and what factors play a part in the
thought process. He did so by picking apart different segments of the brain and describing what
developmental processes it goes through when obtaining thought and language. I would definitely
recommend this book to other people if they want to better understand how people think, act, and
behave. When certain things are skewed in the brain, it reacts in many different ways. Whether that be
poorly or very highly. It depends on what factors are brought upon the brain and what that specific
part of the brain takes in. Eagleman does a fantastic job explaining with good humor how the thought
process comes about. Without our cognitive ability to think and act, there would be no personality or
knowledge on this earth. I believe that the book was sort of well organized in that Eagleman did a
good job of pairing together segments of the brain and explaining how they work together or as a
whole. But, I did however, think that Eagleman jumped around a lot and didn t seem very clear in
some parts. For instance, when he would talk about how the conscious mind is just the tip of the
iceberg in the brain, then what is the rest of the brain doing? He goes into detail about the conscious
and unconscious brain, but what about the subconscious part? It s crazy to think that our body can
react to certain stimuli and situations before we even realize that we need to act upon

Sexual Violence College Campuses
Many things need to change for rape and sexual assault to occur less often on college campuses. In
order to address specific problems appropriately, campuses need to do a thorough analysis of the
crimes that are being reported and not reported on campus, looking for trends in location, time of day,
and more. According to a report of the White House Task Force (2014), one way that college
campuses can do this is with a campus climate survey to identify the extent of the problem of sexual
violence crimes on their campuses. Identifying specific trends will allow a more detailed plan of
action to be implemented that is specific to each schools specific crime demographics. For example,

Collaboration between programs and advocates can help ensure that victims are aware of all of the
options that are available to them. For example, in the area around Fresno State, Marjaree Mason
Center, a shelter for abused women, refers women to the Living Room, a center where community
members can get tested for HIV/AIDS, and vise versa. With these two programs working together,
victims can get the help that they need. Inclusion policy can also provide a way for organizations to
work together for the interest of others as they work together with a set of shared understanding
(Muscat, 2015). Many victims are not aware of the vast resources available to them. It is essential that
programs, organizations, and other institutions exist to inform victims of the rights that they have so
that they can overcome their struggles. In another example, the Coalition of Victim Attorneys and
Consultants helps victims that want to pursue civil lawsuits (Muscat, 2015). This nationwide service
can help victims find quality attorneys so that they can get the best settlement offer possible.

The Importance Of My Trip To Japan
I woke up to the rumbling of the plane beneath me. The scenery around me was different, there was no
Diamond Head, no scraggly cliffs and golden beaches. Yet it was still so appealing to me. It was
everything I hoped for, and I was no less than ecstatic. My first trip to Japan and I had no idea what to
expect, but at the same time I expected everything. This was my fourth attempt of going to Japan. I
had tried many other times through various means such as competitions, or cultural enrichment
programs. Each attempt was a new loss to me but the phrase give up wasn t in my thesaurus. Now I
was on one of the biggest trips I could imagine courtesy of the Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, a group that
was all about sticking to your roots and learning everything available about your history; this trip was
the highest level of that achievable in my opinion. I could finally reap the fruits of my dedication to
my wants, and at the same time learn about my family s geographical origin. This was a trip that
showed the greater differences and similarities in culture and history than I was accustomed to. Things
learned and accepted both in the classroom and from TV would be thrown out the window in favor of
the things I saw and experienced in real life.
One of the most memorable moments was the beginning of the trip still in Hawaii while I was in the
middle of meeting my fellow Hawaiian delegates, they were all fun and great people, they were what I
expected but at the same time extremely unique

Herman Melville s Influence On Business
Melville was an American writer and literary scholar who had many views and opinions on different
aspects of American life and culture during the 19th century. He was a well renowned literary who
didn t hold back any thoughts he had to any issues plaguing that time period. Something Melville was
truly passionate about was how corrupt American business was at the time and how it served little
interest in the people. Melville wrote many short stories and passages about his beliefs on the matter
and how he believed things could be changed around for the better. His slight anti establishment views
and the way he perceived the upper classes influence on business also were important things that he
touched on his works. Lets take a look at Herman Melville and how he perceived 19th century
American business practices. First off, Melville took very staunch stances against how the upper class
had a major influence on business and how they gave Wall Street free reign to do as it pleased at the
benefit of the 1% and not to the advantage of the overall American public. Melville thought that most
of these business men were honestly criminals in business suits being overpaid to manipulate and
continue shady business practices to keep the corrupt politicians and the upper class content and to ...

A Blonde Curtain Of Hair
A blonde curtain of hair stands between me and the girl, who keeps her head down and tucked into her
knees as if ashamed to be near me. My eyes dart around the room, but all I see is black, black walls,
black floors, and the black dress draped over the blonde girl s pale frame.
She looks up and my sister s face is the one that greets me. Emma, I want to say Em, what s going on?
But my lips won t move. No sound is heard throughout the room until I hear her voice Why Alice!
Why did you try to save me! Maybe you could have saved yourself! Tears roll down her face as she
stands walking to where I lay in my wooden coffin . She walks over to me and closes the case.
You failed me.
Those words echo through my mind again and again as I wake, shooting up from my cot, my breath

stays with me haunting my every thought.

thinking that the small bit of sunlight I can get will help me clear my brain, but I m just reminded of a

History Of Aspirin
The synthesis of aspirin is very important in today s society. One of the age old methods of treating
patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a high risk of
heart problems involves the patient ingesting an oral supplement of aspirin. Using aspirin as a therapy
can decrease the risk of a second heart attack (Baigent 2009). In fact, the FDA has approved four
drugs for the prevention of vascular problems, and aspirin is one (Furie 2010). In addition, aspirin is
used daily by many seniors in the U.S. In a recent survey, it was found that in people ranging from 45
to 75 years of age, 52% percent reported that they were currently taking aspirin, and 20% reported that
they had used aspirin in the past (Thompson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an
esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic
anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic,
meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid
then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the
hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral
intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the
catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a
double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after
the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons
occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl
group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acid is generated as a result. With this, the
ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson

A dugout is a canoe made out of a hollowed tree trunk. River scavenging is usually used to find items
that can be used or sold for profit; however, Porris was particularly interested in archeology. Porris

Similarities And Similarities Between Blues And Jazz
The relation between Blues and Jazz music can be discovered if we look closely and scrutinize the
origins of both the music genres. How one developed can be found out from the roots of the other as
both the separate genres use similar sound patterns. Both of these genres belong to a different
decade/era however, are closely linked to one another. In this essay I will deliver a brief history of
both Blues and Jazz, their similarities, and also discuss how the advancement of technology has
affected the way we hear both these genres of music.
Looking back at the history of Blues music, one can see the influence of the African American
community, tradition, and culture very apparent in it. The Blues music genre came into being from the

Blues and Jazz began to share similarities during the 30s and 40s with artists like T Bone Walker and
B.B. King, who combined Jazz techniques with the tonality and repertoire of their Blues music
(Rolling Stone Encyclopedia, 53). In return, Blues chord progressions such as the twelve bar blues are
utilized by Jazz musicians during the improvisational sections of their music pieces.
To remark on some of the different features of both the styles of music, the main difference between
Blues and Jazz is the fact that Blues is characterized by the slow, melancholic tempo and lyrics, and
the utilization of guitar and piano. Whereas Jazz music relies on the basic chord structure and breaks
off into heavy improvisational sections being tied back in with the same basic tune. It is true that the
advent of Blues music came well before Jazz, however, the great influence that Jazz has in the Blues
music heard today is astonishing. Similar to the Jazz long improvisational sections, the Blues of today
has adopted that strategy and added long sections of guitar solos being tied back with the same basic
chord structure and vocal

was founded in the year of 1909 in New York City. This association is considered the nation s biggest
and oldest civil rights organizations. It was formed in response to the continuing terrible practice of
lynching during that period. Lynching was being practiced during this time and affected many people
just because of their skin color. The NAACP was made by white and black citizens [fought] for social
justice (NAACP History). According to the NAACP, Mary English and Dr. Henry Moscowitz called
for a meeting to converse about racial issues. Sixty people signed the call including seven of them
whom were African American which was rarely seen. After their meeting they (white and black
citizens) decided to initiate the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which
their main goal was/is to protect people s rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th and 15th amendment to

Automobiles are not ferocious.... it is man who is to be feared, as Robbins B. Stoeckel remarked,
enumerates a simple, yet fundamental concept a vehicle in itself is a relatively safe, that is, until you
put a person behind the controls. Further adding to the danger is the ever prevalent risk of a fellow
driver being impaired by the usage of alcohol; perhaps the only thing that may make such a situation
even more difficult and dangerous is one who is under the legal alcohol drinking age. Fewer situations
are more life threatening than when an underage driver has been illegally consuming alcohol, yet
persists in the belief that he or she retains the ability to drive safely. Thoughts along this line are

Simply remarking that such a decision is dangerous fails to suffice as concrete evidence of the
negative effects of underage alcohol consumption, and so statistical evidence must be given.
Approximately five thousand underage drinkers die each year; the most prevalent cause is, not
surprisingly, motor vehicle accidents. What many do not understand is what other factors constitute
the other approximately three thousand; sixteen hundred to homicides, that is, murders and other
deliberate killings, as well as 300 to suicide, usually caused by an exacerbation of underlying
depression or other psychological difficulties. The remaining thousand are usually caused by such
grisly circumstances as falling, burning, and drowning. While this may seem a relatively small number
in the vast amounts of the twelve to twenty year old age group, estimates are that within the past
month one quarter of underage persons used alcohol, while two thirds of those were binge drinkers.
Not only does underage drinking increase the chance of dying in related incidents it encourages other
destructive behaviors: engage in sexual activities, carry a plethora of illegal substances, and
correlations have even been found that links underage drinking to poor performance in school. Other
observations have been made that negatively link underage drinking with mental

Body Image in the Media Essay
Body image today is so drastically exaggerated in importance that people, often adolescents, go to the
extremes of trying to be perfect. The media is what I believe makes body image such an important
issue these days. It makes people want to change everything about themselves, their look, their
choices, and their personality. The media are the ones also bringing this on to adolescents because of
all the places they advertise. The adults are also people that I would blame for the cases of young
children causing themselves to hurt for things they shouldn t be caring about. The indicative that
shows that my findings are correct are all the cases that are reported about adolescents and their body
image problems. Places that the media stress ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internet is also making people believe differently about their bodies. It has things posted all the
time describing how a body should be, and with the millions of people who get on the internet
everyday seeing this causes them to believe think differently about their bodies. One thing that these
people who post blogs up don t tell you is that, the adolescents trying to act like these stars end up
getting pregnant or many other things. For instance, teenage girls these days try to be like other girls
on TV and this causes them to be sexually active, and with this occurring nearly 1 in 4 girls ages 14 to
19 acquire a sexually transmitted disease, as Time Magazine describes it. It also says that in African
American girls it s even more likely, 1 in 2 girls obtain a sexually transmitted disease. Sexually
transmitted diseases are also not the only thing that adolescents obtain. The other phenomenon that
occurs because of the media is that teenagers these days try to make their bodies perfect, just like the
bodies of the stars on TV. There are many different ways how they can try to make their bodies
perfect. As the website, MEDIAAWARENESS NETWORKS mentions it, fasting, skipping meals,
excessive exercise, laxative abuse, and self induced vomiting are all considered as unhealthy methods
of maintaining weight. Some of these methods are also under the name of Anorexia. Girls are mainly

Is Hamlet Grieving For His Father s Death In Hamlet Analysis
When analyzing Hamlet under a psychological lens, one can speculate on why exactly Hamlet is so
fixated on the death of his father. Is the cause a heartfelt relationship between Hamlet and King
Hamlet? Or is Hamlet displacing the real motive for his grief? It is possible that Hamlet is not grieving
for his father s death after all, but subconsciously grieving for something else. Due to the death of
King Hamlet, Hamlet would have inherited the kingdom if it wasn t for the existence of Claudius, who
took over the throne instead. Perhaps Hamlet is grieving the loss of this position to his uncle. The
context of the Oedipal complex can be applied to this scenario, as Hamlet would be taking the position
of Gertrude s husband, which according to Freud, satisfies the subconscious desire universally present
in all humans of wanting to have sex with the parent of the opposite gender. Since this idea is
unacceptable and dangerous to Hamlet, he subconsciously transfers his mourning for the loss of his
position as Gertrude s husband to mourning for the loss of his father in an act of displacement.
Evidence for the Oedipal complex can be found in Hamlet s anger at Gertrude for so quickly
remarrying to Claudius and not showing proper grief towards her former husband, King Hamlet. In act
3 scene 4, Hamlet rebukes Gertrude for a deed ...as bad, good mother, / As kill a king and marry his
brother (lines 29 30). In this scene, Hamlet claims that Gertrude was King Hamlet s killer, which is
contradictory to what the King Hamlet s Ghost had stated: that Claudius had killed him. To explain
this logical inconsistency, the psychoanalytic element of condensation must be understood, as
according to Freud, condensation and displacement are closely related. Condensation is the
representation of multiple emotions in a single idea. Several meanings are condensed into one image.
An example of condensation in Hamlet can be found in the relationship between Hamlet and King
Hamlet s Ghost. Throughout the play, it is unclear whether the Ghost is real or simply a figment of
Hamlet s imagination. In act 1 scene 1, the Ghost appears to the castle guards as ...this dreaded sight
twice seen of us (line 23). Horatio and Marcellus have seen the

Artificial sweeteners can be found in almost all diet sodas according to Food in Sight. Some sodas that
use artificial sweeteners are diet Coke and diet Mountain Dew. Artificial sweeteners are not made
naturally, but can taste just as good as real sugar. Artificial sweeteners are made with acesulfame K,
aspartame, neotame, saccharin, and sucralose according to The Sugar Association. These ingredients
are mixed all together to make artificial sweeteners. Artificial sweetener is a healthier sweetener

accept it that soon you ll be drenched to the bone, if your time to you is worth savin then you better
start swimmin or you ll sink like a stone, for the times they are a changin ! (Dylan, 88) These lyrics,
which were written by Bob Dylan over thirty years ago, are as applicable today, or even more so, as
they were then. I have always considered the song to be about cultural change between generations.
Even so, the analogies of the song can apply to various types of change. With the information age, it is
quite possible that our lives are changing at an even faster rate than when Bob Dylan penned those
lyrics. The result of change is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of our ancestors were subjected to working and living conditions that we would consider
deplorable. In many industries, workers were required to do twice as much work for less wages. The
hours were long and employers had little regard for workers health or safety. Consequently, mines and
factories had extremely high rates of job injury and deaths. For many, home life was not much better.
Over crowding, lack of sanitary conveniences, dirt, filth and disease already stood in stark and glaring
contrast to the comfortable, spacious, well furnished homes of the wealthy (Dulles, 79). The rapid
influx of immigrants helped provide cheap labor, competition for jobs, and contributed to the
overcrowding of cities. These conditions did not change overnight. Early labor organizations had to
struggle with both industry and the government to secure the most basic rights for workers. In fact, it
took over 150 years for unions to establish the legal right to organize. Along with wanting wages that
were high enough to provide the basic needs, unions fought for the 8 hour workday, child labor laws,
equal pay for the sexes, and public education (Dulles, 108,132)(Encyclopedia Americana, 630).
Various organizations formed to provide for the needs of a diverse working population. Some were
more successful than others were. However, all faced opposition from the business owners.

The Navajo Creation Myth Analysis
As we continue to grow and have a greater impact on the Earth s systems, it is essential that we
address our role and relationship with nature. The separation of humans from nature encourages
environmentally irresponsible behavior because it allows us to take on the conqueror role, giving us
the ability to manipulate the landscape with the duty to provide and proliferate. Throughout human
history, we have made advancements in technology and agriculture, resulting in the imbalance and
overuse of land. The ability of humans to manipulate the landscape and recognize the consequences of
doing so makes us an invasive species. Our dependency on Earth s resources and services put us at
competition with the environment. In order to understand our role ... Show more content on

We must see beyond our narrow contemporary cultural assumptions and values, and use the
conventional wisdom of our time and place. We can hope to attain full mature personhood and
uniqueness when we achieve the meditative deep questioning process. Thoreau identifies four
necessities to live off the land with minimal hindrance: food, shelter, clothing, and fuel. Any attempt at
luxury is likely to prove more a hindrance than a help to an individual s improvement. These cellar
dents, like deserted fox burrows, old holes, are all that is left where once were the stir and bustle of
human life, and fate, free will, foreknowledge absolute, in some form and dialect or other were by
turns discussed (Former Inhabitants.12). Thoreau examines these remnants of past human residences
and contemplates what is really perpetual in human life. In an industrialized society fueled by greed,
over consumption, power, and expansion, humans reap the our Earth s soil to make establishments for
businesses, apartments crowded and stacked on another while our tin can sardine society becomes
branded. Humans have grown into societal molds; we have become products assembled by pseudo
events, shaping our lives to create a better brand rather than discovering our own

Competitive Cheerleading Is A Sport
What is the formal definition of a sport? The dictionary considers it to be an activity involving
physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for
entertainment. There seems to be much dispute over whether competitive cheerleading fits the criteria
of a sport. Cheerleading has developed into something almost completely different than what it used
to be in the past. Competitive cheerleading consists of performing physically demanding routines and
competing against other squads. Competitive cheerleading should be labeled as a sport, thus
recognizing the competitive cheerleaders as athletes.
Cheerleading has all the elements to be considered a sport that any other sport has. There are some

If they did not, they would not be able to perform at the level and vigor that they do. In addition to
cheering on the other teams at their school, they also compete themselves. Gutgold acknowledges,
High school cheerleading will always proudly carry the tradition of supporting other sports teams
throughout the year, but it s also time for everyone to know that the spirited students cheering on the
sidelines come fall are also hardworking athletes with their own sport and season. More often than not
it seems cheerleaders do not receive the respect they deserve for all that they do. This might be
because spectators do not realize the difficulty and exertion it takes to execute a routine. This is partly
caused by the regulations on what can and cannot be performed. Pete Warner, a member of the BDN
staff and Maine s Sportswriter of the Year, mentions this. Safety rules are in place, meaning that fans
can only see the basic stunts and less advanced tumbling (Warner). Oftentimes cheerleaders do not
feel people understand how much talent and passion they actually have for cheerleading (Warner).
However, the desire for their sport is there, and it is fueling them to prove the skeptics and

The Role Of Leadership In The 1980 s
America during the 1980 s experienced a time of immense progression and prosperity. The 1980 s saw
a boom in economic success because of the newly Reaganomics. MTV and music videos sparked a
new wave pop culture for the youth and the many new TV stations opened up a whole new world for
all generations. The leadership of the country saw positive steps forward from the past mistrust and
failures of the presidents of old and this better leadership carried to country forward through the
decade. All throughout the 1980 s there was a flood of young men straight out of high school toward
Wall Street. These men were called yuppies and the reason as to why they were all trying to make it

The Abandoned Colony by Karen Ordahl Kupperman
Thesis: The Roanoke colony proved to be an unsuccessful venture in the New World for England,
since leaders of the expedition held the viewpoint that privateering would prove to be the most
profitable aspect of founding the new settlements in the West. However future, still unsuccessful
attempts to make a permanent colony at Roanoke, helped England understand how to build a
prosperous one; and it became a building block for establishing future colonies for England and
helped shape the ideas that would help launch their empire.

They had a strange relationship, since many of the colonists respected the Indian s way of life and
were amazed by how they lived. Many attributed their strength to the tobacco that they consumed.
Others saw them as savages and wanted to convert them to the European way of life. The colonists
ended up waging war with them and killed some Croatoans. White went back to England to request
supplies, and when he came back, the colony was abandoned, with evidence that they joined the
Croatoans. CRO was written on a tree, a sign that the colonists left to tell him where they had gone.
However, they were to carve a cross over the name if they were forced to vacate, but there was no
such mark. An entrance post also had the word Croatoan carved into it, also without any crosses. Big
items like weapons were left behind, but all smaller supplies were gone. The book uses Professor
David Quinn s theory to explain what happened. The bulk of the colony moved to the Chesapeake Bay
and lived in peace while the rest stayed behind to guard the heavier equipment. However, the Spanish
threat and Indian hostility forced them to leave. They were the ones who left the notes. Rumors
continued to spin when Indians told stories to the people of Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay about
whites living with the Indians. Unfortunately, White, Ralegh, and everyone else searching for the
colony never found them. Even after hearing of why Roanoke failed,

Psychoanalysis And Oedipus The King
Ever since Sigmund Freud developed psychoanalysis theory, its applicability has been extended
beyond therapy to literature. In the interpretation of dreams, Sigmund Freud coins the term the
oedipus complex in reference to the greek mythology of Oedipus the king. The application of
psychoanalysis to myth is treated by Dowden with scepticism and he states that the only significance
of the psychoanalytic approach is in its recognition of how fundamental the images that recur in the
myth are (Dowden, 1992, p.23). This essay will argue that Dowden s treatment of the theory of
psychoanalysis is valid but needs to be supplemented with a more comprehensive view of
psychoanalysis and the various arguments for scepticism towards psychoanalysis. Dowden s treatment
of the theory of psychoanalysis focuses on the application of dream interpretation to myth and it s
related flaws. He refers to the freudian method of dream analysis as using dreams to disclose the
hidden operations of the unconscious mind ... [through] symbolism, disposition, or projection
(Dowden, 1992, p.23). In this sense, it is reasonable to extend psychoanalysis to other products of
human imagination such as myth. Dowden criticizes this approach to interpreting myth by raising
several major problems. Firstly, he speculates that both psychoanalyst and classist tend to be inapt at
psychoanalyzing myths. Secondly, he warns against analyzing the characters in the myth as though
they are real in flesh. Thirdly, he dismisses

Service Marketing Gap Analysis
The unique requirements of the additional 3P s people, physical evidence, and process are driven by
the particular characteristics of service intangibility, inseparability, variability, and perish ability.
These characteristics also pose more marketing complexities which require different management
activities.
All services are experiences some are long in duration and some are short; some are complex and
others are simple; some are mundane, whereas others are exciting and unique. (Wilson, Zeithaml, and

Customer expectations are standards or reference points that customers bring to the service experience
whereas customer perceptions are subjective assessments of actual service experience. The difference
between customer expectations and perceptions is referred as the customer gap which is the central
focus of the gaps model. The customer gap identifies service performance problems but does not
determine the causes of the problems; it is the four provider gaps that help management identify where
service quality has failed. Service firms need to close the gap between customer expectations and
perceptions of the actual service received if they want to satisfy their customers with quality service
and build long term relationships. (Wilson, Zeithaml, and Bitner, 2008)
A recurring theme in service companies is the difficulty experienced in translating customer
expectations into service quality specifications that employees can understand and execute. The
difficulty can be interpreted as three difficulties: the difficulty for managers who are not in direct
contact with customers in large organization to understand the customer needs; the difficulty in getting
the right balance between imposing service standards and still allowing the staff to be natural; the
difficulty managers faces in selecting and

Symbolism Of Childhood In Peter Pan And Wizard Of Oz
Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies , a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay. Both Peter Pan
and Wizard of Oz, use childhood to promote The Golden Age . According to Marriam Webster.com,
this term is described as, a period of great happiness, prosperity, and achievement. But the golden age
is also defined as a period where authors discovered that children were more than innocent angels and
that their childhoods are important, joyous, and unique. Both authors, Barrie and Baum show this
throughout their novels. Barrie uses imagination and a fear of growing up while, Baum uses irony and
a powerful symbol of home.
In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum introduces the main character, Dorothy. She is a 16 year old girl
that lives in Kanas with her aunt and uncle. She gets very little attention and has only one friend: her
dog Toto. Dorothy is described as a child and stays a child throughout the entire book, even when
facing some difficult tasks. This is a different idea than some of the other Golden Age texts such as
Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
One of the most famous quotes from the novel is, there is no place like home. (Baum, chapter 4) with
Dorothy walking just three steps in her silver shoes. This is just one example of a quote that hints at
her age and innocence. When children are upset, we often hear them say, I want to go home . Home
has always been a place of comfort and security. Dorothy s home doesn t resemble these
characteristics when she

The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan Food Culture
In 2009 food detective Michael Pollan published an eye opening book called The Omnivore s
Dilemma. According to Pollan, we don t know what to eat because unlike other cultures around the
world, Americans lack a stable food culture. Food cultures are traditions that are passed down from
generation to generation to teach us how to cook and eat food. These cultures can help you stay
healthy and more importantly, enjoy your food.
In chapter 8 of the Omnivore s Dilemma, Michael Pollan explains how other cultures like the French
have traditions that have been passed down for generations. For instance, in chapter 8 Michael Pollan
says that You ll never see a French person eating while driving or walking down the street. They
seldom eat alone. Instead, they eat with family or friends, and their meals are long leisurely affairs. In
other words, the French culture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

modify the food so that it says reduced fat, or gluten free. But in reality, they are taking out vital
nutrients and other things that we depend on to survive. Pollan tells us at the beginning of chapter 8
that Today the modern omnivore has almost no culture to fall back on. Standing in our giant

The company was the HBC S biggest competition when the NWC was in partnership with nine other fur trading companies. The Northwest company was ran from 1779 to 1821 and was based on Montreal. Over the next few years the sustainability of the company was slim so many major partners left the company. In 1820 the company s successful existence was slim so the shareholders had to agree to a Merger with the Hudson s Bay company. • 3. Mark Edmundson And Paulo Freire Although Mark Edmundson and Paulo Freire believe that a higher form of education such as, a stronger teaching ethics, deeper understanding, and more passionate students is needed to correct the issues at hand. In their essay they both adopt a different style to present tis idea. Paulo Freire wants the individual to form himself rather than be formed. To this end, he proposes that educational topics or opportunities be taken from the daily experience the individual constantly encounters and avoid the current educational pitfall of resorting to artificial experiences. While, Edmundson is trying to show how education has change due to the leak of consumerism into universities. Edmundson acknowledge his own conformity and promise to change back to what he thinks will make a good class and challenge his students to think on another level. Paulo Freire dwells on the idea that a teacher s task is to simplify fill a student s mind. He describes the banking concept as a habitual learning process where the teachers oppress the knowledge that they considered important on the student by supplying the student with the material and not given them the opportunity to question the material presented. Freire states; that In the banking concept of education, knowledge is a gift bestowed by those who considered themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they considered to know nothing. Projecting an absolute ignorance onto others, a characteristic of the ideology of oppression, negates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Understanding Health Care Systems Introduction After reading the article on Work System Analysis: The Key to Understanding Health Care Systems , discuss one or more principles and methods for analyzing systems and how they might help healthcare administrators and clinicians properly analyze their units or facilities. Make sure you discuss the proper steps for executing the work system analysis. Work System Analysis: The Key to Understanding Health Care Systems System analysis can help manage and reduce risks by identifying hazards so they can be controlled through good design. That is, in order to improve safety, quality, performance, and comfort, a good place to start is by analyzing the involved systems so they can be improved. The key to improving safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand the system, it is essential to know how to analyze it. Industrial and human factors engineering work system analysis methods provide a set of tools that can be used to analyze health care systems. The increase in the use and popularity of human factors in health care can be traced to successes of human factors in fields such as mining, nuclear power, manufacturing, and aviation. Although these industries have successfully used human factors for decades, adoption of human factors tools and methodologies in health care has been slow. Human factors engineering methods and design guidelines have been slowly adopted in health care for some of the same reasons that health care is thought to have safety problems. Most prominent is the expectation that health care professionals will perform perfectly, which has resulted in a heavy focus on addressing individual performance versus system design. Cook and others wrote, The conventional view is that the [health care] system is safe by design but can be degraded by the failure of its human components. From this perspective, all medical errors and adverse events are somebody s fault. In other words, a health care professional is more likely to get redesigned (retrained) than the ... • 5. Essay on Campaign Finance Issues GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION We are not a democracy, yet we do have a voice in our own government. Elections are the choice microphones for many citizens. There on Election Day, they have the right of making their voices heard; however, many interest groups and a few individuals seem to have a louder voice due to campaign financing: No U.S. official should be beholden to one or a few groups. And no group or individual should have a greater claim on our elected leaders than any other. That s the way it should work. But it is growing clear to more and more Americans that it doesn t (McCarthy 24). Recently, it has been the trend to try to make sure the opinions and concerns of minorities are duly noted and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Money is the most degrading, corrupting force in American politics today (McCarthy xi). The idea behind fundraising for elections was a success at first, giving donors another way to voice their opinions and open up the doors for communication once the elected officials fully realized who they owed their position to. However, this went too far. Those whose candidate did not win were left with an official who will accept the ideas of a past donor before any others. This favoritism, while beneficial to certain donors, proves damaging to others. Also, when before, all donated and spoke their mind, now only certain groups and people donate and not even all of them speak their mind. The individual doesn t count anymore (McCarthy 25). THE HYPOTHESIS Now that I have given about three pages of background information on the political processes, now would be a good time to introduce my Representative. Ken Bentsen represents the 25TH District of Texas. He is a democrat and has served as representative since 1991. I actually have a few theories regarding the reasons he voted the way he did and why certain groups financially supported his campaign. Scholars for thousands of years have pondered the question of whether it was the chicken or the egg, which came first. In the case of campaigning and finance, such seems to be the question. Because voters had the opportunity of watching his career before 1996, it s practically impossible to be able to tell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technically, VPN extends the concept of Local area network, where the main LAN at the company headquarters is connected to multiple LANs in different company locations and individual users (Protocols, 2008). Most organizations develop an intranet, which is an internal network used only by company employees. It allowed all the employees to have one single access point for company resources and updates. Implementing a VPN allowed remote users to access the intranet from any location or even their homes (Tyson Crawford, 2015). • 8. John Renfro Servant Leadership Part 2 Leadership Review Pastor Renfro, as he is known by those who have had the pleasure to meet him, defines servant leadership as one of the many models of ministry, each of which describes how a particular minister understands his/her role and approach to ministry as a vocation, and a way of life. Dr. John Renfro is currently senior chaplain at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina. He grew up in simple, rural South Carolina in Spartanburg County, and he benefitted from a family who had a personal deep connection with God. His simplistic beginning provides the anchor of stability in a turbulent world for his family and those whom he offers ministry. We need to be with people where they are without the need to fix them, rather, trusting God to do what He is doing in their lives, hoping that He uses me as part of the process. I know that I will be learning and growing with those whom God sends me. Pastor Renfro was then asked how has he evolved or grown as a servant leader. He responded, Each of us follows a circuitous, sometimes difficult pathway in ministry, we learn, we grow, we become more aware of ourselves as people and as ministers. I am a country preacher, and although I have a wealth of formal education and training, I continue to grow and evolve daily, as a person, and as a minister. Renfro continues, the most difficult thing to overcome is our own tendency to be ostentatious a lack of genuineness and openness; you need to go deep in faith and in ministry; my own history, as a country preacher, took a great deal of energy to integrate and allow this to be my greatest strength. When asked what he believed are the advantages/disadvantages of being a servant leader, Renfro responded, a strength and advantage would be to possess a non judgmental presence, to allow people to be the who, what, and where they need to be in our encounters; the disadvantage in that is some people might consider this position as too indeterminate, lacking in absolutes. Renfro commented on the partnerships he has forged in his life of servant leadership, starting with being a Clinical Pastor Supervisor (certified to teach at the graduate level), a Diplomate of the College of Pastoral Supervision, a nationally certified Professional Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, and also an Ordained Bishop in the Church of ... What if a book about becoming transgender was read for story time for first graders? Are you willing to let your child be exposed to that at such a young age? I know that I m not, so I stand with censoring and banning books. If books are inappropriate, children simply should not have access to them in a public or school library. I think that if a book is banned, it is banned for a good reason. Furthermore, I think that the process of censorship of books is perfect, for it needs to be strict enough in order to keep children and adults safe from unsuitable books. Of course, everyone has the freedom to read whatever they want, but they can do that in their own home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She also thinks that by having inappropriate censorship are providing discriminated readers. However, if we weren t able to ban any scandalous books, what would be the point of having censorship? Censorship helps keep libraries in check with appropriate books, and if you really need to read a certain books that is not available, most of these books are still able to be bought on Amazon or on a pdf. As David Eagleman, a neuroscientist, elaborates on the American criminal justice system, he brings out important factors that I believe everyone should be focusing on in this country. He states that our actions are not only made up by our unconscious mind, but the way we perceive things is controlled by our unconscious ability to even realize we are controlling it. The conscious mind not only represents only a small part of our brain activity and function, but it also perceives certain behaviors differently when constructed with drugs or damage The process of the unconscious brain activity differs from the conscious part but they both ... He did so by picking apart different segments of the brain and describing what developmental processes it goes through when obtaining thought and language. I would definitely recommend this book to other people if they want to better understand how people think, act, and behave. When certain things are skewed in the brain, it reacts in many different ways. Whether that be poorly or very highly. It depends on what factors are brought upon the brain and what that specific part of the brain takes in. Eagleman does a fantastic job explaining with good humor how the thought process comes about. Without our cognitive ability to think and act, there would be no personality or knowledge on this earth. I believe that the book was sort of well organized in that Eagleman did a good job of pairing together segments of the brain and explaining how they work together or as a whole. But, I did however, think that Eagleman jumped around a lot and didn t seem very clear in some parts. For instance, when he would talk about how the conscious mind is just the tip of the iceberg in the brain, then what is the rest of the brain doing? He goes into detail about the conscious and unconscious brain, but what about the subconscious part? Yet it was still so appealing to me. It was everything I hoped for, and I was no less than ecstatic. My first trip to Japan and I had no idea what to expect, but at the same time I expected everything. This was my fourth attempt of going to Japan. I had tried many other times through various means such as competitions, or cultural enrichment programs. Each attempt was a new loss to me but the phrase give up wasn t in my thesaurus. Now I was on one of the biggest trips I could imagine courtesy of the Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, a group that was all about sticking to your roots and learning everything available about your history; this trip was the highest level of that achievable in my opinion. I could finally reap the fruits of my dedication to my wants, and at the same time learn about my family s geographical origin. This was a trip that showed the greater differences and similarities in culture and history than I was accustomed to. Things learned and accepted both in the classroom and from TV would be thrown out the window in favor of the things I saw and experienced in real life. Something Melville was truly passionate about was how corrupt American business was at the time and how it served little interest in the people. Melville wrote many short stories and passages about his beliefs on the matter and how he believed things could be changed around for the better. His slight anti establishment views and the way he perceived the upper classes influence on business also were important things that he touched on his works. First off, Melville took very staunch stances against how the upper class had a major influence on business and how they gave Wall Street free reign to do as it pleased at the benefit of the 1% and not to the advantage of the overall American public. One of the age old methods of treating patients with inflammation problems, blood coagulation problems, fevers, and having a high risk of heart problems involves the patient ingesting an oral supplement of aspirin. In addition, aspirin is used daily by many seniors in the U.S. In a recent survey, it was found that in people ranging from 45 to 75 years of age, 52% percent reported that they were currently taking aspirin, and 20% reported that they had used aspirin in the past (Thompson, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an esterification reaction, a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol. The synthesis of aspirin is an esterification reaction. Initially, the proton, i.e. the hydrogen ion, from the acid attacks the acetic anhydride and attaches itself on a double bond oxygen. This makes the compound more electrophilic, meaning that it has a higher affinity for electrons. This is what sets off the reaction. The salicylic acid then acts as an alcohol and attaches its OH group onto a carbon on the acetic anhydride. Then, the hydrogen from the OH group (the alcohol group) of the salicylic acid falls off, forming a tetrahedral intermediate, and the hydrogen ion reassociates with the conjugate base of the acid used as the catalyst. Next, the hydrogen that came from the acid initially, transfers its electrons and forms a double between the adjacent oxygen and carbon. However, the hydrogen atom does not fall off after the transfer of electrons but is kept there with a positive charge. With this, another transfer of electrons occurs and an acetyl group is generated from the breaking of the acetic anhydride. Now, the acetyl group breaks off the positive hydrogen attached and acetic acid is generated as a result. With this, the ester, the aspirin, is created (Watson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In return, Blues chord progressions such as the twelve bar blues are utilized by Jazz musicians during the improvisational sections of their music pieces. To remark on some of the different features of both the styles of music, the main difference between Blues and Jazz is the fact that Blues is characterized by the slow, melancholic tempo and lyrics, and the utilization of guitar and piano. Whereas Jazz music relies on the basic chord structure and breaks off into heavy improvisational sections being tied back in with the same basic tune. It is true that the advent of Blues music came well before Jazz, however, the great influence that Jazz has in the Blues music heard today is astonishing. • 22. Is Hamlet Grieving For His Father s Death In Hamlet Analysis When analyzing Hamlet under a psychological lens, one can speculate on why exactly Hamlet is so fixated on the death of his father. Is the cause a heartfelt relationship between Hamlet and King Hamlet? Or is Hamlet displacing the real motive for his grief? It is possible that Hamlet is not grieving for his father s death after all, but subconsciously grieving for something else. Due to the death of King Hamlet, Hamlet would have inherited the kingdom if it wasn t for the existence of Claudius, who took over the throne instead. Perhaps Hamlet is grieving the loss of this position to his uncle. The context of the Oedipal complex can be applied to this scenario, as Hamlet would be taking the position of Gertrude s husband, which according to Freud, satisfies the subconscious desire universally present in all humans of wanting to have sex with the parent of the opposite gender. Since this idea is unacceptable and dangerous to Hamlet, he subconsciously transfers his mourning for the loss of his position as Gertrude s husband to mourning for the loss of his father in an act of displacement. Evidence for the Oedipal complex can be found in Hamlet s anger at Gertrude for so quickly remarrying to Claudius and not showing proper grief towards her former husband, King Hamlet. In act 3 scene 4, Hamlet rebukes Gertrude for a deed ...as bad, good mother, / As kill a king and marry his brother (lines 29 30). In this scene, Hamlet claims that Gertrude was King Hamlet s killer, which is contradictory to what the King Hamlet s Ghost had stated: that Claudius had killed him. To explain this logical inconsistency, the psychoanalytic element of condensation must be understood, as according to Freud, condensation and displacement are closely related. Condensation is the representation of multiple emotions in a single idea. Several meanings are condensed into one image. An example of condensation in Hamlet can be found in the relationship between Hamlet and King Hamlet s Ghost. Throughout the play, it is unclear whether the Ghost is real or simply a figment of Hamlet s imagination. • 31. The Abandoned Colony by Karen Ordahl Kupperman Thesis: The Roanoke colony proved to be an unsuccessful venture in the New World for England, since leaders of the expedition held the viewpoint that privateering would prove to be the most profitable aspect of founding the new settlements in the West. However future, still unsuccessful attempts to make a permanent colony at Roanoke, helped England understand how to build a prosperous one; and it became a building block for establishing future colonies for England and helped shape the ideas that would help launch their empire. They had a strange relationship, since many of the colonists respected the Indian s way of life and were amazed by how they lived. Many attributed their strength to the tobacco that they consumed. Others saw them as savages and wanted to convert them to the European way of life. The colonists ended up waging war with them and killed some Croatoans. White went back to England to request supplies, and when he came back, the colony was abandoned, with evidence that they joined the Croatoans. CRO was written on a tree, a sign that the colonists left to tell him where they had gone. However, they were to carve a cross over the name if they were forced to vacate, but there was no such mark. An entrance post also had the word Croatoan carved into it, also without any crosses. Big items like weapons were left behind, but all smaller supplies were gone. The book uses Professor David Quinn s theory to explain what happened. The bulk of the colony moved to the Chesapeake Bay and lived in peace while the rest stayed behind to guard the heavier equipment. However, the Spanish threat and Indian hostility forced them to leave. They were the ones who left the notes. Rumors continued to spin when Indians told stories to the people of Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay about whites living with the Indians. Unfortunately, White, Ralegh, and everyone else searching for the colony never found them. Even after hearing of why Roanoke failed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Psychoanalysis And Oedipus The King Ever since Sigmund Freud developed psychoanalysis theory, its applicability has been extended beyond therapy to literature. In the interpretation of dreams, Sigmund Freud coins the term the oedipus complex in reference to the greek mythology of Oedipus the king. The application of psychoanalysis to myth is treated by Dowden with scepticism and he states that the only significance of the psychoanalytic approach is in its recognition of how fundamental the images that recur in the myth are (Dowden, 1992, p.23). This essay will argue that Dowden s treatment of the theory of psychoanalysis is valid but needs to be supplemented with a more comprehensive view of psychoanalysis and the various arguments for scepticism towards psychoanalysis. Dowden s treatment of the theory of psychoanalysis focuses on the application of dream interpretation to myth and it s related flaws. He refers to the freudian method of dream analysis as using dreams to disclose the hidden operations of the unconscious mind ... [through] symbolism, disposition, or projection (Dowden, 1992, p.23). In this sense, it is reasonable to extend psychoanalysis to other products of human imagination such as myth. Dowden criticizes this approach to interpreting myth by raising several major problems. Firstly, he speculates that both psychoanalyst and classist tend to be inapt at psychoanalyzing myths. Secondly, he warns against analyzing the characters in the myth as though they are real in flesh. Thirdly, he dismisses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Customer expectations are standards or reference points that customers bring to the service experience whereas customer perceptions are subjective assessments of actual service experience. The difference between customer expectations and perceptions is referred as the customer gap which is the central focus of the gaps model. The customer gap identifies service performance problems but does not determine the causes of the problems; it is the four provider gaps that help management identify where service quality has failed. Service firms need to close the gap between customer expectations and perceptions of the actual service received if they want to satisfy their customers with quality service and build long term relationships. (Wilson, Zeithaml, and Bitner, 2008) A recurring theme in service companies is the difficulty experienced in translating customer expectations into service quality specifications that employees can understand and execute. The difficulty can be interpreted as three difficulties: the difficulty for managers who are not in direct contact with customers in large organization to understand the customer needs; the difficulty in getting the right balance between imposing service standards and still allowing the staff to be natural; the difficulty managers faces in selecting and ... • 35. Symbolism Of Childhood In Peter Pan And Wizard Of Oz Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies , a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay. Both Peter Pan and Wizard of Oz, use childhood to promote The Golden Age . According to Marriam Webster.com, this term is described as, a period of great happiness, prosperity, and achievement. But the golden age is also defined as a period where authors discovered that children were more than innocent angels and that their childhoods are important, joyous, and unique. Both authors, Barrie and Baum show this throughout their novels. Barrie uses imagination and a fear of growing up while, Baum uses irony and a powerful symbol of home. In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum introduces the main character, Dorothy. She is a 16 year old girl that lives in Kanas with her aunt and uncle. She gets very little attention and has only one friend: her dog Toto. Dorothy is described as a child and stays a child throughout the entire book, even when facing some difficult tasks. This is a different idea than some of the other Golden Age texts such as Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. One of the most famous quotes from the novel is, there is no place like home. (Baum, chapter 4) with Dorothy walking just three steps in her silver shoes. This is just one example of a quote that hints at her age and innocence. When children are upset, we often hear them say, I want to go home . Home has always been a place of comfort and security. Dorothy s home doesn t resemble these characteristics when she ... Instead, they eat with family or friends, and their meals are long leisurely affairs. In other words, the French culture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
