The Importance Of Play On Child Development
Introduction to the Issues and Literature Review Play is an important part of children s development,
as it helps us to understand their emotional, social, and physical/motor development. Interaction
during play, or lack their of, can help to explain a child s temperance, their comprehension of social
rules, and their understanding of others (Allen, 2008; Franklin, 2000; Rothbart and Jones, 1998).
Physical and motor movements in play can depict a child s sensory tolerance and preferences
(Williamson and Anazalone, 2008). Most notable, all of these systems work together in play to
understand the rates at which a child is developing and in which areas more support may be needed.
As Rothbart and Jones discuss in their piece Temperament, self regulation and education, children that
have a stronger Behavioral Inhibition System (fear or anxiety reactions) may be more likely to display
introverted or inhibited behavior (1998). These children may be more susceptible to becoming
discouraged and may require more positive feedback from their peers or adults. To further explain,
they might fear punishment for their actions and need positive reinforcement that their behavior is
socially acceptable or they may doubt their own abilities to perform in certain situations. A child s
estimation of their abilities and likelihood of their success in a given situation also may be affected if
he or she tends to be more fearful. They may avoid situations where they feel inadequate and avoid

Procrastination Of His Father s Death In Hamlet, By...
Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is a very complex play with many catechisms scholars study to this
day. One such question relates to Hamlet s procrastination for vengeance of his father s death.
Confronted by the ghost of his father, Hamlet is instructed to revenge his foul and most unnatural
murder (Shakespeare I.v.31), yet he goes on to tarry the act for almost the entirety of the play. This
brings about many ideas as to why he took such delay and the effect it had on the characters involved
and the play itself as a whole. Hamlet had promised the ghost that [he], with wings as swift/ as
meditation or the thoughts of love/ may sweep to [his] revenge (Shakespeare I.v.35 7). This, to an
unfamiliar reader, would seem very straightforward, yet Hamlet speaks with no cause. He
procrastinates so much that, later in the play, the ghost reappears to remind him to not forget. This
visitation / Is but to whet thy almost blunted purpose (Shakespeare III.iv.136 7). His father literally
comes back as a ghost to remind Hamlet that he is supposed to be seeking revenge. Hamlet seems so
uninterested in the idea of actually going through with avenging his father s death; rather, he dwells on
it and falls into depression, not acting on his anger or instruction whatsoever.
Hamlet himself does not recognize a reason for his dally. He is extremely upset by his inability to
enact vengeance. It deeply upsets him that an actor in a dream of passion... should weep (Shakespeare

Fast food has become a comfort food during struggling economic hardship can provide comfort and
reduce stress, increase satisfaction feeling and security. With promotions items or dollar value meals,
some families which eat at fast food restaurant can find it cheaper to eat their rather than going to local
grocery store and purchase food for the family. Another reason fast foods restaurants have been part of
comfort foods is because they have been around for over 50 years, so for generations families have
been eating there and can recall found memories of family time together. Consumers don t like change
and fast food restaurants can provide that consistence deliver of goods. Fast Food Chains are easily
chosen during times that restrict personal finances, because during those times families still seek to
have a way to escape the chains that are tightening them towards debt. Fast foods is there are no
tipping policies, many often have deals where children under 12 eat free on certain days, many offer
coupons through out the week to help save even further.
With the fast pace of Americans, they do not have to travel far to find a fast food restaurants. While
families are working double shift jobs and less time to cook and take care of other family duties. The

Ffa Creed Research Paper
I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds..... E.M. Tiffany wrote
the original FFA (Future Farmers of America) creed and it was revised at the 38th and 63rd FFA
National Convention, but it was adopted to the FFA at the third national convention. There are
649,355 current members that know this creed, but that number does not include the alumni
(https://www.ffa.org/about/who we are/our membership). FFA is just only one amazing thing you can
do with agriculture. We will be taking a look at the problems, causes, and the solutions so that more
people can know the FFA creed and can discover something that they didn t know about them and/or
the agriculture experience. Some of the problems are the lack of knowledge, the decline of agriculture,
and the lack of younger generations not wanting anything to do with agriculture. Most people in the
cities like Indianapolis, for example don t think they can do anything with agriculture because there is

Neutralism In Latin America
The Latin American nations shared the hatred of colonialism and fear of nuclear warfare with their
fellow Africans and Asians. The FO acknowledged that the legacy of anti colonialism, which they
have inherited from their own past, influences Latin American thinking on [neutralism] as on so many
other issues. The Latin Americans differed in that they were decolonized a century earlier, and had
been spared close contact with major conflicts, therefore having little fear of war in the sense that you
would find fear in South East Asia, India or the Middle East. The motivation to join the NAM,
therefore, might have been more politically motivated than morally. James G. Hershberg s article,

In 1959, Fidel Castro was still figuring out how to align Cuba, and what Cuba s role in the world
would be. By late fall of 1959, the Eisenhower administration felt that the US could never do business
with the Castro Government on a basis which could be termed even reasonably satisfactory. Castro
had already indulged in anti American propaganda, nationalized U.S. property, proclaimed Cuba s
neutralism, and worked with Cuban Communists. By March 1960, Eisenhower had approved of a plan
for the overthrow of Castro. By May 1960, Cuba officially aligned itself with the Soviet Union, and
received assistance from the USSR to resist the United States. The failed Bay of Pigs invasion
occurred in April 1961, several months prior to Belgrade. A little over a year following the Belgrade
Conference saw the Cuban Missile Crisis unfold. Cuba saw the USSR s actions in this crisis as acting
against Cuban interests, and Cuba began to deemphasize relations with the USSR and create closer
ties with the NAM countries. While undeniably a controversial candidate for non alignment, many of
Cuba s values were closer to the NAM s basic principles. The Non Aligned countries believed in
strengthening their independence by pushing back on economic and political colonialism, and
bridging the gulf between the wealthy and poorer nations of the planet. They were in full support of
Cuba s stance, even supporting Cuban frustration with the US base on

On Dumpster Diving Summary
According to On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner, food plays a significant role in everyone s lives.
On Dumpster Diving is a story of a person who is alone and homeless. He has nothing to eat. The only
source of food he got is a dumpster. He picks food from there and makes various suggestions and
statements while picking the food up. In his view while picking the food he give the suggestions to use
commonsense, to know the dumpster of a specific area and check it regularly and to try to answer the
question why that food is thrown? He also mentions various sources of food present in dumpster.
The good source of food for him is the students who mostly use canned food. In his words the students

Essay on The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures
The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures
The primary focus of ancient Greek sculptures was that of the human body. Almost all Greek
sculptures are of nude subjects. As the first society to focus on nude subjects, Greek sculptors
attempted to depict man in what they believed was the image of the gods and so would come to
celebrate the body by striving for verisimilitude or true likeness (realism and naturalism!). (Riffert)
Not only did the Greeks celebrate the human form in their art but also in everyday life. (Riffert) One
of the favorite topics for sculptors was that of the athlete. In Greek culture athletes were described as
hero athletes . (Riffert) This shows that athletes were revered and looked upon as heroes. The

Greeks were constantly in search of the Ideal (Riffert). Their Ideal was a body capable of enduring all
efforts, either of the racecourse or of bodily strength...this is why the athletes in the pentathlon are the
most beautiful. (Tufts) This description of the Ideal person given by Aristotle reflects the attitude of
the majority of ancient Greeks. People were not judged solely on their minds but rather strong
emphasis was given to the body. This emphasis given to the body was given to the nude body. It is
understandable that we question why nude art was so accepted by the Greeks, as they were the
pioneers in this field. The answer lies in the everyday life of the people. It was commonplace for
Greek men to exercise, go to war, and generally go about their daily business in the nude or scantly
clothed (Boardman 276).
While male nudity was straightforward and hiding nothing, female nudity was more reserved. In the
first fully nude female sculpture, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxitales c. 350 340bc., the feminine
principle (is invented) which as a demure pose where the knees are brought together and sometimes
the hand is discreetly before the genitals (Riffert). This reference shows that in art as in life, women
are depicted as less than equal to their bold male counterparts. Usually female statues were either

The Sport Of Powerlifting Is Serious
212 on deck! At this moment, I can hardly stand still while I wait for my turn to lift. I ve been up since
early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start. There have
been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The sport of
powerlifting is serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice, increase your
lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport, like I did when I first
began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet, there is no going back. The
sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class is all that matters. Meanwhile,
others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat their current best. At this
moment, all that matters to me is that I get all my lifts today.
Weeks later, everything about powerlifting meets seemed ordinary, I had begun to learn the ropes.
After weigh in, you could always find my team eating some sort of food involving peanut butter.
During this time, our coach took the opportunity to run through the basics with us. Which weight
classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the starting
weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking back now,
this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me, this goal
setting was incredibly

Nursing Swot Analysis
Assignment 2: Course Project Task 2
SWOT As we learned swot stands for strengths, weaknesses, organization, and tasks. This is used in
all firms to make necessary changes. This is especially useful in healthcare organizations. The
Hartford (2017, n.d.), states that A SWOT analysis examines four aspects of performance that
typically determine the success or failure of a company, employees or even an individual. It s one
task/variable to make a list of your company s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It s
another task/variable to take that information and develop a plan of action, (The Hartford). In the

In the department where I volunteer at the hospital the root problem is too many people come in and
out of the department unexpectedly with questions about assignments for the day, as well as other
issues from the case managers, and disputes about timesheets. These problems create tension and
chaos. By using the RCA tool, the department can get at the root of the problem at hand as well as the
cause of the problem. Hopefully then the issues can be resolved and problems will be rectified.
The workflow process begins with the manager. The manager communicates to the staff. When there
are problems with the workflow process with the staff then the problem is pointed out to the manager.
The manager meets with the staff person who has a problem to rectify the situation. Afterwards, the
manager meets with all staff about the problem and she discusses the problem. A memo is typed and
copied and posted for all personnel to read, sign that they read it, and follow the instructions as stated
in the memo. Any further questions they are referred to the manager.
Workflow Process
Using the workflow process you begin at the top of the department. You look for what the problem is
and what needs to be changed/fixed. ManagerStaffProblems Manager meets with staff, discusses
issuesthe issues hopefully are resolved. By using the workflow process everyone is aware of where
the priorities lie. When problems arise, the workflow process aids all

Life Changing Diagnosis Of A Six Year Old Essay
Life Changing Diagnosis of a Six Year Old It was an early morning on a bright sunny day in
Cleveland Ohio. I was six years old at the time and was sitting in a small square room, there were
stuffed animals, Barbie dolls and other various toys scattered around. Christina my step sister and I
were playing cheerfully with our toys. All of a sudden I felt exhausted and dizzy. Slowly I put down
the toy and made my way into the living room. There I climbed onto an oversized vintage floral print
couch, pulled a blanket over myself and snuggled into the pillow. Sharon my mother entered the room
and said Serena what s wrong, are you okay? I did not respond, she walked over and became
nauseated by the foul fruity odor emanating from my mouth. Sadly this is not the first time something
like this had happened to me. Over the previous year I had been in and out of doctor s offices. Each
visit ending with the doctor saying there is nothing wrong and sending me home with a delicious
bottle of pink amoxicillin. This day was different Sharon finally said that s enough . She called her
sister, my aunt Terry and asked for the phone number to her pediatrician. After one quick phone call I
was loaded into the family car for yet another visit to the doctor. Upon our arrival at Doctor Yue s
office my mother and I were asked many questions. How old are you, how much do you weigh and
what symptoms have you been experiencing? The answers came quickly since I had been repeating

Most Scared Descriptive Writing

It was about two weeks after school got out. It was just a run of the mill kind of Sunday. I decided to

halfway up the stairs I remembered that I had to go to work in an hour. I skidded to a stop and barely
stopped myself from plunging down the stairs that I had just ran up by gripping the handrail. Which

The And Of The Structure Of Dna
Abstract In 1979 Nobel prize laureate and the co discoverer of the structure of DNA called for a
precise method to gain control over specific classes of neurones leaving the others more of less
unaltered which will allow us to understand more about the profoundly mysterious brain. This was the
first articulated idea of optogenetics, which would lead to the development of one of the most exciting
areas of neuroscience. In 2005 Karl Desseroth and Ed Boyden publishes a paper detailing a single
optogenetic system a revolutionary paper, using channel rhodopsin Optogenetics, as shown by the

In the following years scientists were able to target specific cells such as temperature and chemicals
(alexander et all 2009), however the precision of light is unmatched. In addition light gives
millisecond precision which is very important in optogenetics because of the fast pace of processes in
the brain such as synaptic currents and to allow the addation or deletion of precise activity patterns
The underlying theory of optogenetics is introducing a light sensitive protein to a specific cell type,
then activating the cell with light and observing any changes in function or cellular behavior. The

Disease Control And Prevention Starting Reporting Lyme...
Introduction
Since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention starting reporting Lyme disease as a reportable
disease in 1991 it has been the most commonly reported vector borne illness is the United States1. It
should be noted that Lyme disease does not occur everywhere in the US, and is heavily concentrated
in upper Midwest and northeast United States1. This report has been compiled to provide
recommendations for prophylactic treatment of Lyme disease once a patient encounters a tick bite.
Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted by Ixodes
dammini, otherwise known as the deer tick3. B. burgdorferi lives in the midgut of the deer tick, and

Serologic testing has not been proven to be effective in identifying B. burgdorferi. Antimicrobial
therapy has been at the forefront of research in trying to identify if prophylactic treatment is necessary
and what drug and dosing is most appropriate.
Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial
treatment is not routinely indicated.2 There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial, 203
patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo. Either 250mg of amoxicillin or
a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped out and 7 subjects
had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were therefore dismissed from the
study. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two developed symptomatic infection with
B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were given amoxicillin showed any infection.
They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected with B. burgdorferi is so small that the
prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical significance and should not be used. The
authors also indicated that most deer ticks are actually not infected with B. burgdorferi, which may
help explain why so little placebo subjects showed a positive infection after their encounter.
While Shapiro et al. was not able to recommend antimicrobial prophylaxis with amoxicillin Nadelman

to work on the plantations, the Black Codes declared that those who failed to sign yearly labor

poor and aged, settle disputes between whites and blacks and among the freedpeople, and secure for
former slaves and white Unionists equal treatment before the courts (p. 562) . Still, the Bureau lasted

unfortunately, many white Southern people continued to ignore the law by not showing any respect for

* The case looks at differences in cultural values and beliefs of Polish and U.S managers employed in
a joint venture in Poland. * Joint venture with a Polish partner and a wholly owned subsidiary of a U.S
multinational corporation located in Poland. * Small joint venture, non bureaucratic organization with
140 employees. * Family type of relationship existed among the managers. * Both local Polish
managers and U.S expatriates reported a friendly work climate.

Traditional expectations hold that, when one is young, it is impossible to be knowledgeable and have
the necessary experience and competence to manage successfully.
* The Salary System * Polish managers expressed difficulty in adjusting to the confidentiality of the
new salary system. The Polish and U.S managers differed in the beliefs regarding what information
was personal and what information should be public. Polish managers wanted to know as much about
each other s salaries as possible. They had no problems asking another employee about exactly how
much they were paid. To the Polish managers, this served as a means of establishing their relative
status. * For the expatriate U.S Americans, however, it was not part of the company culture to reveal
explicit salary information. Salary information was considered personal and confidential. Most felt
that revealing salary information disrupted the family climate of the organization. Instead, the
Americans expressed faith in the system of assessment and reward allocation.
* Team Goals * Working not only for your own interests but also for the success of the team or the
whole company was a challenge for many Polish managers. This was especially true for those who
had their initial managerial experiences in a state controlled economy.
* The Psychological Contract * From the perception of the Polish managers, the organization required
them to accept a new

Life Changing Comprehensive Social Security Assistance
The life changing Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) In October, I just turn 18. In this
18 years, there are some events that have a great impact on me. Between those events, I think that
getting the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) from the Hong Kong government is the
one which really change my life. It effects my life in both positive and negative ways. As its name
implies, CSSA is a scheme to help the underclass and working poor. Under the scheme, the CSSA
recipients will get certain amount of payment from the government monthly. The amount varies based
on the age, household size and the health of the recipients. There are also supplement such as the
single parent Supplement and the residential care supplement to those in need. My family have
received the assistance since I was 8 years old. Before that, my father was an unlicensed itinerant
hawker who sold clothes in the streets as the government do not grant hawker licenses since 1970s.
My father went to work every early, at 3 am. Thus every time I woke up, he has gone. Being an
unlicensed hawker is tough in Hong Kong, they need to worry about if there are customers. However,
the most important thing is to avoid the hawker control teams. If they are found unlicensed by the
team, they will be sent to the court and fined. Moreover, all of their goods will be confiscated. The
income of my family was unstable at that time. It depends on whether my father was lucky or not. If

The Final Game Before The Championship
Param Mehta
English 1/2 (3)
Short Story Rough Draft
The final game before the championship. We had been training for a month now and the gruesome
work had finally paid off. We were more than ready to march on the field and take the championship.
We won our league division and if we won the next game we play then we were headed to the national
championship. Our team had never won the championship and we really wanted to win it. In the
locker room before the game our coach emphatically said, You boys play like it is the last game of
your career. Nothing should stop you and when you touch the field I want you to feel like winners.
You see that trophy there, that is our trophy and when we go out on the field we hold our heads high
and we fight to win. We are winners and nothing in this world can stand between us from the trophy.
We were jumping up and down trying to get our blood flowing and when the referees called us on the
field.
Beep. The whistle blows. Our coach pumped us up with a great motivational speech to make us play
the hardest we could. We start shaky, however due to a couple of great saves by our goalkeeper we
were still in the game. At half time it was tied. We stuffed ourselves with oranges before we ran on the
field for the second half. Our team started off very well due to a great speech by our coach and we
gained a monstrous two zero lead. The win looked inevitable, however, our team got way too
confident and we let in two goals and before we knew it

The Mystery Of The Unicorn Hunters
The Problem with Banishment
With the name The Unicorn Hunters, one might think this group consists of delusional people, but on
the contrary The Unicorn Hunters are a group created for Lake Superior State University (LSSU) to
garner more support for the school. W.T. (Bill) Rabe created the Unicorn Hunters after being hired as
the Director of Public Relations at LSSU. The group s popularity hails from their publicity stunts and
other events, one of which includes the annual List of Banished Words that first began in 1975 76
(Lake Superior State University). This list consists of words and phrases that people wish to banish
from our language. The past lists show words that people generally disliked, overused, or considered
to be a negligent and lazy way to communicate.
After looking through the lists created by LSSU, the Freshman Composition I class created their own
list of banished words and compiled the data within various tables, charts, and graphs. Next, by
analyzing the data the class arrived to several conclusions about the implications of the data. Group A,
my group, was assigned to show how to make a table of the top ten words, complete with title, labels,
and caption.
First, friends, family, and strangers were surveyed and asked what words they would like to banish
from our language. As a result, the entire class compiled a list of over 500 words and phrases. Group A
decided to create tables using multiple outlets to expand their table making knowledge to more than

Impact Of Social Media On Tourism
Introduction
Either tourists are searching a flight deal or seeking a hotel for evening accommodation, today, they
are checking out online reviews before making decision. Thus it s no surprise that tourism providers
are keen to post fake ratings on travel websites. Some are even willing to pay for the inauthentic
testimonials to catch people s fancy and preference. As one of the hottest issue in tourism industry,
tourism review manipulation on social media are becoming an increasingly serious concern among
tourists. Especially, the operator and supplier have the ability to manipulate the review and rate
without the appearance of manipulation. Even worse, the issue has generated some ripple effects
rapidly and jeopardise both travellers and tourism providers. Therefore, the essay is going to provide
an overview of this contemporary issue and the current situation, and further illustrate the relevance
between this and other contemporary problems like credit crisis in social media and review sites.
Furthermore, through researching and analysing a number of real life examples, it will reveal the
primary causes behind the issue. More importantly, the essay dedicates to find effective solutions to
stop the problem and its influences from getting worse after conducting a comprehensive analysis.
Last but not least, an integrated conclusion regarding the significant arguments and reflection of the
contemporary issue, as well as the implications for the future review website will

Descriptive Essay About Firefly
Firefly
Imagine yourself on a cliff face, looking down over a vast expanse of darkness. Above you the setting
sun turns the sky crimson red, bloodstaining your ragged robes. Not a single cloud is in the sky, yet to
you, the land could not be more dismal. The darkness taunts you, it laughs at you. You try to ignore it,
to grasp the one thread of sanity you still have, but it consumes you. You have no power; you are only
drawn deeper into its embrace. It is inviting, warm. You allow yourself to sink momentarily into its
arms. Your life flashes before your eyes. Such was the situation befalling me. Before me lay the great
darkness of the abyss and the hope of returning to happier times. It was all too tempting to end it right

Who are you? And the darkness answered me, almost with jest. Who do you think I am? I am the
darkness, the Void, your friend, your destiny. You cannot escape me. Now come. And then there was
only silence once more.
I was born and raised in a loving, but lonely household. My parents, though attentive, had largely let
me wander free on my own, pre occupied by their own work and ambitions. I was free to explore the
world, and all I saw was pleasantness and ecstasy. I had spent almost every single afternoon of my
childhood outside in the forests near my home, walking around admiring the handiwork of Mother
Nature. Sometimes I would catch a glimpse of a strange and wonderful creature that She created, and I
would be absolutely awestruck. My evenings were largely dedicated to dancing in front of the mirror
and admiring my own beauty. At night, I would pretend to go to sleep early and hide away under my
blankets, telling wild and far fetched stories to my stuffed animals. For the time being, I was the
happiest girl in the world. Nothing could touch me. All that changed when I left home at the ripe,
young age of 16. Like everyone else, I had prospects and dreams. I wanted to improve the world, to
share my experiences, to innovate. I was a visionary. Soon after stepping out of my neighborhood and
into the world, though, I realized what I lacked direction. I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of
pain that confronted me, and I had no idea how

Creon Tragic Hero Analysis
Aristotle once spoke that A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall.
A tragic hero can be defined in many different traits and definitions but what makes a perfect tragic
hero? It also can have many different meanings and actions towards it. A perfect tragic hero must have
a flaw of judgement leading to a tragic flaw also know as a Hamartia. Also a person who is a royal
birth and holds a high place in society. Lastly a tragic hero must discover or recognize that the reversal
was brought about by their own actions. Creon in Antigone is a perfect example of meeting Aristotle s
criteria as a tragic hero.
A hero s tragic flaw is usually due to the character s lack of knowledge, lack of judgment, and
overwhelming pride. The flaw leads to destructive consequences but that does not define the hero as a
bad character. More so Aristotle believes that the tragic hero brings their downfall to evoke the
feelings of pity and fear among the audience. Aristotle says that pity is aroused by unmerited
misfortune, fear by the misfortune of a man like ourselves. This is why majority a of tragic hero s have
those traits, pity and fear, in their plays. In his play Antigone, Creon can be ... Show more content on

The Theme Of Symbolism In The Kite Runner
The tree was ours (27). Symbols in literature can represent a multitude ideas and there is no shortage
of important symbols in The Kite Runner. However, in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner, one
important reoccurring symbol is the pomegranate tree which drives the theme of love and
relationships and is a physical symbol of progression throughout the novel. The recurring symbol of
the pomegranate can be viewed as a physical symbol of progression and time passing throughout the
novel. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth when they sit under it for
shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their childhood innocence and the times
they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing
on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t
read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are children sitting under a tree and enjoying their
innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of
Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Amir is
ashamed that he did not take action and can barely function. Hassan invites Amir to go with him to
hike up the hill to the pomegranate tree and Amir accepts the invitation. As they approach the tree,
Hosseini states, We sat under our pomegranate tree and I knew I d made a mistake. I shouldn t have

Torture In Medieval Prisons
The Veg Pledge Everything is pitch black. I am pressed up hard against my peers in this moving
enclosure and have been for what feels like a lifetime. I can hardly breathe and the heat is almost
unbearable. The stench of death is penetrating, filling me entirely. Suddenly, light pours from outside
blinding me, I am shoved and kicked by men, who maneuver me out of my previous prison. I realise
that I am free, and begin to run forward, only to collapse as my legs and lungs cannot cope after
standing for so long. I am herded into yet another dark and crowded enclosure with my peers, my
heart begins to race with panic, and I try to resist, squealing and thrashing around. The cruel men from
earlier reappear and poke me with what I assume is a stick, but it sends shockwaves through me,
rendering me unable to move. Little did I know that that would be the last time I would move. Little
did I know that my death could contribute to the destruction of a planet. You are probably thinking,

Studies show that humans and animals are both highly intelligent, but in very different ways, we see
ourselves as superior as they cannot speak English as we do, this is comparable to native English
speakers seeing foreigners as less intelligent due to them speaking very slow, broken English, however
we know that this does not measure intelligence as they are fluent in a language unknown to us.
Animals are as capable of complex intelligence as humans are; crows are known to create hooks out of
wires, squirrels fake hiding nuts when they know they are being watched, and chimpanzees have
proven to have better short term memory than humans do. Animals are capable of feeling the exact
same amount of pain as humans are, so why is it socially and legally acceptable to murder

Chinese Farmers Discovered The Terracotta Warrior
In 1974, local Chinese farmers discovered the Terracotta Warrior life sized clay sculptures. The
weather was dry in 1974, and the grain was dying in the fields of Lintong County, Shaanxi Province,
near Xian, China and some local farmers were trying to establish a new water well by digging at a low
point in the terrain. Whilst digging they encountered the first evidence of the Terracotta Warriors. One
of the local farmers Yang Zhifa quoted on the discovery At first the digging went well. The second day
we hit hard red earth. The third day, my hoe dug out the neck of a terracotta statue without a head, but
the opening at the bottom was about size of a bowl, . It wasn t until months later when archaeologists
were informed, arrived and realized that the farmers had stumbled upon an astonishing find in the
form of a large scale Terracotta Warriors dig. They dated the construction around 246 206 BC during
the Qin Dynasty. It was during the reign of the first Emperor of a unified Imperial China Qin Shi
Huang Di. According to Ancient Chinese linguist the words Shi Huang translate as First Emperor so
this individual was also known as the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. Chinese civilization has its
origins in Shaanxi and Henan Provinces where the Huang He, or Yellow River, winds its way through
its fertile valleys with the old Qin capital city Xian Yang just 40km East of discovery site. Based on
these historical and geographical evidences the Terracotta Warriors could now

performance was David Symalla. Twenty four individuals composed of the entire cast. The whole cast
was eighteen years or older. This gave the play a more mature feel. A live orchestra preformed the
music, which consisted of eight members. The orchestra brought the play to life and made the show
even more enjoyable. The entire cast was amazing at singing. It was clear that there are a lot of

she did not capture the attention of the audience like she should have. During the high school prom

to liven up the multiple dance numbers during this scene. Costumes and slang used matched the 1950s
time period. The costumes looked authentic and really set the tone for the play. Slang and language
throughout the play mattered the time period perfectly. A staircase that lit up to the beat of the music
added a lot of interest to multiple dance numbers. Several different sets were set up during the play,
and it was obvious where the characters were. The props and setting structures were constructed very
well. A drag race scene did take place during the performance. The concept of preforming it seemed
difficult, but the special effects and choreography worked out well. It felt like Danny and the rival

entertaining. The language and themes were more mature, so it would not be advised for children to

Martin Luther s Theology Of The Cross
Furthermore, Luther s Theology of the cross helps us to see God incarnate, with us, Emmanuel, even
in the suffering and death of the crucified one, God s only son, Jesus. It is in this suffering that we
know that God is with us. In a very human way, God takes on the fate of the world, to destroy human
flesh through Jesus, the incarnation. God does change, suffer and die. It is God alone, and nothing we
do. God does all the heavy lifting for our sake, and it is a gift. Jesus gives us an example of someone
who loves us so deeply, that he is willing to lay down his life.

Nomadic Human Hazing
Introduction
What is hazing? As stated by Alvarez D.M. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating
new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so
bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act
of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social
animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all
social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must
follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or
killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be used as an additional form of correction for offenders (Mowrey, R., 2012. The general
form of punishment for hazing is dismissal from the organization (Mowrey, R., 2012.) This is not the
same as dismissal from the school, generally a person is dismissed from a fraternity, sorority, team or
community they were a part of. This form a punishment, though a strong deterrent, has its drawbacks
although common, the dismissal approach fails to address the harm done to the affect communities,
such as the team, school, or organization. (Mowrey, R., 2012). Restorative justice is not some mythical
state that requires chanting and incense. What would happen is that the offenders and the affected
parties would meet after the original punishment. The affected person or persons would state exactly
what they were thinking during the hazing and what they need to feel right again (Mowrey, R., 2012).
The offender would not be left voiceless, they would be given time to speak about what they were
thinking and what they feel is just repayment. This sounds like it might just be a waste of time, but it
is actually proven to decrease revenge acts against victims, it also increases the amount of satisfaction
victims feel with their cases (Mowrey, R., 2012). Often the perpetrators offer genuine statements of
remorse (Mowrey, R.,

Crucial Similarities Of Martin Luther King Jrr And Indira...
Crucial similarities between Martin Luther King Jr and Indira Gandhi The best leaders have
momentous impact on a society due to their enormous effort of enchanting their countries by bringing
about important changes, and many people want to be like these influential public figures. However,
not all people are born with qualities to be great leaders. Although, some people are born to be
honorable and memorable leaders, such as Martin Luther King Jr and Indira Gandhi. Usually, many
kids spend most of their time playing with cars, dolls or playing with their friends, but these two didn t
have usual childhoods as others had. Instead, many people would say, both Martin and Indira had
unique lives. They had various similarities such as participating in public activities, having supportive
parents, sacrificing themselves for their country and being assassinated. Ever since they were kids,
they participated in public activities to share their voices. For Martin Luther King Jr, being a black and
segregated didn t make any sense to him. He had to be in a different place from white people even if
he was in a restaurant. In a fact that, he wasn t allowed to have a seat on a bus because the color of his

memory: Sensory Memory, Short term Memory, and Long term Memory.
The three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory work, in a way, as a
system. First, when sensory information from your sensory system gets encoded, it is considered
sensory memory; lasting about a second. The sensory information is then converted into short term
memory if and only if the individual is paying attention; lasting about as long as attention is held. If
the information is repeated/thought about enough, it will become long term memory; basically etching
itself across your cerebral cortex. That isn t to say that all long term memories are stored

Analysis Of Nino Ricci s Lives Of The Saints
In Nino Ricci s Lives of the Saints, Vittorio s grandfather, Lu Podesta, has a high reputation as the
mayor of Valle del Sole. He behaves like a holy catholic like everyone else, especially he sits on the

First of all, Lu Podesta resigns from mayor because his daughter is being accused of having an affair.

The Central Powers of World War I
World War I took place between 1914 and 1918. It was a fight between the Central Powers and the
Allies. The Allies included America, Britain, France, and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany,
Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, which is now considered Turkey. The United States was
involved in the war for a short period of time; it entered the war very late. There was a deadlock
between the Allies and Central Powers, but Germany knew that they were going to lose the war
because of the United States entering; they wanted to seek an armistice. The Allied Powers ended up
winning, and forced Germany to agree to the harsh terms in the armistice they had written up. The
United States faced many challenges and trouble in its own country after the war. Towards the end of
the war, troop movements contributed to a worldwide influenza epidemic. The disease took more than
500,000 lives alone in the United States alone in 1918 and 1919. The epidemic even killed a larger
amount of people worldwide than the amount of people that had died in the war. The epidemic arose
in two stages. The first phase, identified as the three day fever, appeared without warning in the late
spring of 1918. Few deaths were reported. Victims recovered after a few days. When the disease
surfaced again that fall, it was far more severe. Scientists, doctors, and health officials could not
pinpoint this plague which was striking so viciously and fast, evading treatment and resisting control.

  • 2. The Importance Of Play On Child Development Introduction to the Issues and Literature Review Play is an important part of children s development, as it helps us to understand their emotional, social, and physical/motor development. Interaction during play, or lack their of, can help to explain a child s temperance, their comprehension of social rules, and their understanding of others (Allen, 2008; Franklin, 2000; Rothbart and Jones, 1998). Physical and motor movements in play can depict a child s sensory tolerance and preferences (Williamson and Anazalone, 2008). Most notable, all of these systems work together in play to understand the rates at which a child is developing and in which areas more support may be needed. As Rothbart and Jones discuss in their piece Temperament, self regulation and education, children that have a stronger Behavioral Inhibition System (fear or anxiety reactions) may be more likely to display introverted or inhibited behavior (1998). These children may be more susceptible to becoming discouraged and may require more positive feedback from their peers or adults. To further explain, they might fear punishment for their actions and need positive reinforcement that their behavior is socially acceptable or they may doubt their own abilities to perform in certain situations. A child s estimation of their abilities and likelihood of their success in a given situation also may be affected if he or she tends to be more fearful. They may avoid situations where they feel inadequate and avoid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Procrastination Of His Father s Death In Hamlet, By... Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is a very complex play with many catechisms scholars study to this day. One such question relates to Hamlet s procrastination for vengeance of his father s death. Confronted by the ghost of his father, Hamlet is instructed to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (Shakespeare I.v.31), yet he goes on to tarry the act for almost the entirety of the play. This brings about many ideas as to why he took such delay and the effect it had on the characters involved and the play itself as a whole. Hamlet had promised the ghost that [he], with wings as swift/ as meditation or the thoughts of love/ may sweep to [his] revenge (Shakespeare I.v.35 7). This, to an unfamiliar reader, would seem very straightforward, yet Hamlet speaks with no cause. He procrastinates so much that, later in the play, the ghost reappears to remind him to not forget. This visitation / Is but to whet thy almost blunted purpose (Shakespeare III.iv.136 7). His father literally comes back as a ghost to remind Hamlet that he is supposed to be seeking revenge. Hamlet seems so uninterested in the idea of actually going through with avenging his father s death; rather, he dwells on it and falls into depression, not acting on his anger or instruction whatsoever. Hamlet himself does not recognize a reason for his dally. He is extremely upset by his inability to enact vengeance. It deeply upsets him that an actor in a dream of passion... should weep (Shakespeare II.ii.579 87) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Ffa Creed Research Paper I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds..... E.M. Tiffany wrote the original FFA (Future Farmers of America) creed and it was revised at the 38th and 63rd FFA National Convention, but it was adopted to the FFA at the third national convention. There are 649,355 current members that know this creed, but that number does not include the alumni (https://www.ffa.org/about/who we are/our membership). FFA is just only one amazing thing you can do with agriculture. We will be taking a look at the problems, causes, and the solutions so that more people can know the FFA creed and can discover something that they didn t know about them and/or the agriculture experience. Some of the problems are the lack of knowledge, the decline of agriculture, and the lack of younger generations not wanting anything to do with agriculture. Most people in the cities like Indianapolis, for example don t think they can do anything with agriculture because there is not a cornfields nor a bean fields like we ... • 6. Neutralism In Latin America The Latin American nations shared the hatred of colonialism and fear of nuclear warfare with their fellow Africans and Asians. The FO acknowledged that the legacy of anti colonialism, which they have inherited from their own past, influences Latin American thinking on [neutralism] as on so many other issues. The Latin Americans differed in that they were decolonized a century earlier, and had been spared close contact with major conflicts, therefore having little fear of war in the sense that you would find fear in South East Asia, India or the Middle East. The motivation to join the NAM, therefore, might have been more politically motivated than morally. James G. Hershberg s article, High Spirited Confusion analyzes Brazil s presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1959, Fidel Castro was still figuring out how to align Cuba, and what Cuba s role in the world would be. By late fall of 1959, the Eisenhower administration felt that the US could never do business with the Castro Government on a basis which could be termed even reasonably satisfactory. Castro had already indulged in anti American propaganda, nationalized U.S. property, proclaimed Cuba s neutralism, and worked with Cuban Communists. By March 1960, Eisenhower had approved of a plan for the overthrow of Castro. By May 1960, Cuba officially aligned itself with the Soviet Union, and received assistance from the USSR to resist the United States. The failed Bay of Pigs invasion occurred in April 1961, several months prior to Belgrade. A little over a year following the Belgrade Conference saw the Cuban Missile Crisis unfold. Cuba saw the USSR s actions in this crisis as acting against Cuban interests, and Cuba began to deemphasize relations with the USSR and create closer ties with the NAM countries. While undeniably a controversial candidate for non alignment, many of Cuba s values were closer to the NAM s basic principles. The Non Aligned countries believed in strengthening their independence by pushing back on economic and political colonialism, and bridging the gulf between the wealthy and poorer nations of the planet. They were in full support of Cuba s stance, even supporting Cuban frustration with the US base on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay on The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures The Human Body in Ancient Greek Sculptures The primary focus of ancient Greek sculptures was that of the human body. Almost all Greek sculptures are of nude subjects. As the first society to focus on nude subjects, Greek sculptors attempted to depict man in what they believed was the image of the gods and so would come to celebrate the body by striving for verisimilitude or true likeness (realism and naturalism!). (Riffert) Not only did the Greeks celebrate the human form in their art but also in everyday life. (Riffert) One of the favorite topics for sculptors was that of the athlete. In Greek culture athletes were described as hero athletes . (Riffert) This shows that athletes were revered and looked upon as heroes. The influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greeks were constantly in search of the Ideal (Riffert). Their Ideal was a body capable of enduring all efforts, either of the racecourse or of bodily strength...this is why the athletes in the pentathlon are the most beautiful. (Tufts) This description of the Ideal person given by Aristotle reflects the attitude of the majority of ancient Greeks. People were not judged solely on their minds but rather strong emphasis was given to the body. This emphasis given to the body was given to the nude body. It is understandable that we question why nude art was so accepted by the Greeks, as they were the pioneers in this field. The answer lies in the everyday life of the people. It was commonplace for Greek men to exercise, go to war, and generally go about their daily business in the nude or scantly clothed (Boardman 276). While male nudity was straightforward and hiding nothing, female nudity was more reserved. In the first fully nude female sculpture, Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxitales c. 350 340bc., the feminine principle (is invented) which as a demure pose where the knees are brought together and sometimes the hand is discreetly before the genitals (Riffert). • 9. The Sport Of Powerlifting Is Serious 212 on deck! At this moment, I can hardly stand still while I wait for my turn to lift. I ve been up since early this morning and have been waiting a couple of hours for my weight class to start. There have been weeks of preparation just for this one day, the first of many for the season. The sport of powerlifting is serious and the only way to be at the top of your class is to practice, increase your lifted weigh and be prepared. Most people have limited knowledge of this sport, like I did when I first began competing. However, once you find yourself at a powerlifting meet, there is no going back. The sport is friendly yet competitive. For some, placing in their weight class is all that matters. Meanwhile, others are focused on increasing their bench, squat or deadlift to beat their current best. At this moment, all that matters to me is that I get all my lifts today. Weeks later, everything about powerlifting meets seemed ordinary, I had begun to learn the ropes. After weigh in, you could always find my team eating some sort of food involving peanut butter. During this time, our coach took the opportunity to run through the basics with us. Which weight classes everyone was in, which rack they would compete in, who was wrapping knees and the starting weights. Then each athlete would have a moment to state their goal for the day. Looking back now, this was our coach s way of allowing us to have control over our performance. For me, this goal setting was incredibly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Life Changing Diagnosis Of A Six Year Old Essay Life Changing Diagnosis of a Six Year Old It was an early morning on a bright sunny day in Cleveland Ohio. I was six years old at the time and was sitting in a small square room, there were stuffed animals, Barbie dolls and other various toys scattered around. Christina my step sister and I were playing cheerfully with our toys. All of a sudden I felt exhausted and dizzy. Slowly I put down the toy and made my way into the living room. There I climbed onto an oversized vintage floral print couch, pulled a blanket over myself and snuggled into the pillow. Sharon my mother entered the room and said Serena what s wrong, are you okay? I did not respond, she walked over and became nauseated by the foul fruity odor emanating from my mouth. Sadly this is not the first time something like this had happened to me. Over the previous year I had been in and out of doctor s offices. Each visit ending with the doctor saying there is nothing wrong and sending me home with a delicious bottle of pink amoxicillin. This day was different Sharon finally said that s enough . She called her sister, my aunt Terry and asked for the phone number to her pediatrician. After one quick phone call I was loaded into the family car for yet another visit to the doctor. Upon our arrival at Doctor Yue s office my mother and I were asked many questions. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth when they sit under it for shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their childhood innocence and the times they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are children sitting under a tree and enjoying their innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Amir is ashamed that he did not take action and can barely function. Hassan invites Amir to go with him to hike up the hill to the pomegranate tree and Amir accepts the invitation. As they approach the tree, Hosseini states, We sat under our pomegranate tree and I knew I d made a mistake. I shouldn t have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Torture In Medieval Prisons The Veg Pledge Everything is pitch black. I am pressed up hard against my peers in this moving enclosure and have been for what feels like a lifetime. I can hardly breathe and the heat is almost unbearable. The stench of death is penetrating, filling me entirely. Suddenly, light pours from outside blinding me, I am shoved and kicked by men, who maneuver me out of my previous prison. I realise that I am free, and begin to run forward, only to collapse as my legs and lungs cannot cope after standing for so long. I am herded into yet another dark and crowded enclosure with my peers, my heart begins to race with panic, and I try to resist, squealing and thrashing around. The cruel men from earlier reappear and poke me with what I assume is a stick, but it sends shockwaves through me, rendering me unable to move. Little did I know that that would be the last time I would move. Little did I know that my death could contribute to the destruction of a planet. You are probably thinking, What is this? Some cruel form of torture in a medieval prison? I hate to tell you, no, it is not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies show that humans and animals are both highly intelligent, but in very different ways, we see ourselves as superior as they cannot speak English as we do, this is comparable to native English speakers seeing foreigners as less intelligent due to them speaking very slow, broken English, however we know that this does not measure intelligence as they are fluent in a language unknown to us. Animals are as capable of complex intelligence as humans are; crows are known to create hooks out of wires, squirrels fake hiding nuts when they know they are being watched, and chimpanzees have proven to have better short term memory than humans do. Even though Sandy was a main character, she did not capture the attention of the audience like she should have. During the high school prom scene, the choreography seemed a little boring. More complex dance routines could have been added to liven up the multiple dance numbers during this scene. Costumes and slang used matched the 1950s time period. The costumes looked authentic and really set the tone for the play. Slang and language throughout the play mattered the time period perfectly. A staircase that lit up to the beat of the music added a lot of interest to multiple dance numbers. Several different sets were set up during the play, and it was obvious where the characters were. The props and setting structures were constructed very well. A drag race scene did take place during the performance. The concept of preforming it seemed difficult, but the special effects and choreography worked out well. It felt like Danny and the rival gang leader were actually racing on stage. That was extremely impressive. The show was very entertaining. The language and themes were more mature, so it would not be advised for children to attend. Many of the jokes were for the ... Martin Luther s Theology Of The Cross Furthermore, Luther s Theology of the cross helps us to see God incarnate, with us, Emmanuel, even in the suffering and death of the crucified one, God s only son, Jesus. It is in this suffering that we know that God is with us. In a very human way, God takes on the fate of the world, to destroy human flesh through Jesus, the incarnation. God does change, suffer and die. It is God alone, and nothing we do. God does all the heavy lifting for our sake, and it is a gift. (2015) hazing can be defined as the practice of initiating new members into a group, often through harassment and humiliation . (p.43) However, if hazing is so bad why is it still around, wouldn t an intelligent society discontinue harmful practices? Both the act of hazing and the willingness to be hazed are rooted in the deepest parts of human nature. Any social animal relies on its group members to survive. New members of a group are thoroughly vetted in all social species; this can be seen most clearly in wolves. A lone wolf attempting to join a new pack must follow a certain form of behaviors, if the new wolf is not deemed worthy it is either driven off or killed. Ancient nomadic humans ... The three major components of the Information Processing Model of memory work, in a way, as a system. First, when sensory information from your sensory system gets encoded, it is considered sensory memory; lasting about a second. The sensory information is then converted into short term memory if and only if the individual is paying attention; lasting about as long as attention is held. If the information is repeated/thought about enough, it will become long term memory; basically etching itself across your cerebral cortex. • 38. The Central Powers of World War I World War I took place between 1914 and 1918. It was a fight between the Central Powers and the Allies. The Allies included America, Britain, France, and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire, which is now considered Turkey. The United States was involved in the war for a short period of time; it entered the war very late. There was a deadlock between the Allies and Central Powers, but Germany knew that they were going to lose the war because of the United States entering; they wanted to seek an armistice. The Allied Powers ended up winning, and forced Germany to agree to the harsh terms in the armistice they had written up. The United States faced many challenges and trouble in its own country after the war. Towards the end of the war, troop movements contributed to a worldwide influenza epidemic. The disease took more than 500,000 lives alone in the United States alone in 1918 and 1919. The epidemic even killed a larger amount of people worldwide than the amount of people that had died in the war. The epidemic arose in two stages.
