Importance Of Communication Skills In Leadership
Communication Skills and Effective Leadership
Leaders in an organization must be able to understand employee needs, recognize employee skills,
motivate employees, and communicate with employees. If leaders fail in these areas it can become
difficult to maintain a positive work environment. The issue I will address is that leaders need to poses
strong communication skills in order to be an effective leader.
Effective Leadership
Leadership is not any easy thing and being a good leader is even harder. What makes leaders effective
and sets them apart from being a leader and be and effective leader? These are issues that come up
every day in whatever your line of work is there is leadership. There are some people that are naturally
great at leadership and some people that have to learn how to be and effective leader. As a leader you
are in charge of making sure things run smoothly. There are many different studies and journals on
how and what skills are needed in order to be an effective leader and one thing that stand out amongst
all of these is that communication skills play a huge roll in a leader effectively leading their team.
Whether a team is made up of 1 person or of 500 people if the leader isn t utilizing their
communication skills then the rest of the team is going to struggle with communication. Without
communication things tend to fall apart and tend to make leaders ineffective.

Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie
The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life of Ethan Edwards
as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a
scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the
Cavalry officers have Debby or not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman
on the floor, screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty
decide that Debby is not there and leave.
In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent element. Dialogue
is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters (Ethan, Marty, Officers and the lady
on the floor). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native Americans were being
portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the
searchers 1956). The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the
message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford was
racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film was made. John
Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950
s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of
this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he
becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead
of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her
brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight
change of character in Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making
decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in

Their Eyes Were Watching God Identity Essay
Many women in the 1930s were striving to to make a name for themselves and find their place in this
ever changing world. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston,
Janie Crawford is a middle aged black woman who is searching to find her place. Janie was raised by
her grandmother, a very stern woman who felt strongly about her ideals of a proper life for Janie. Janie
has three husbands throughout the book, Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake, two of whom die. Janie goes
through many ups and downs in her life, but she uses every experience to grow. Throughout the whole
book Janie is searching for her own identity, Joe, Tea Cake, and Nanny all have an effect on Janie and
her quest.
Nanny was the first one to influence Janie and her quest for personal identity. Nanny is Janie s
grandmother, and she raised Janie as if she were her own daughter. Nanny was born into slavery and

Nanny, Joe, and Tea Cake all played a role in Janie s development as a person, and it is undeniable
that Janie s character would not be what it is without the influence of these people. By the end of the
book Janie is able to find stability and joy within herself instead of being reliant on others. The story
of Their Eyes Were Watching God, despite being written 80 years ago, has many lessons that are
applicable today. Nanny teaches the difference between helping the ones you love, and taking away
their choices. Tea Cake teaches how important it is to build other people up and help them to embrace
their own personalities. Joe teaches that there is a fine line between ambition and thirst for power. And
lastly, Janie teaches how important it is to be able to find happiness within one s self. All these lessons
are important to take into account to be the best person possible, and find your own identity in within

Dna Synthesis Lab Report
Introduction
The Alu elements are the most abundant in the human genome and are present in more than one
million copies. They belong to the Short Interspersed Nuclear Elements family of repetitive elements
(Hasler and Strub). The presence of the Alu elements had a great influence on the evolution of the
human genome. The Alu elements can also lead to both duplications and deletions of DNA segments
and provide new regulatory elements to neighboring genes (Hasler and Strub). From this lab, I am
trying to find my allele genotype for the Alu gene, and to determine whether the Alu gene is
heterozygous, homozygous, or neither.
Description of methods used DNA extraction is the removal of deoxyribonucleic acid from the cells or

NYPD Red Book Report
NYPD RED Book Review
NYPD Red was written by authors James Patterson and Marshall Karp, who both award winning
authors, and is well known for many their great books. Patterson is the main author and he has sold
many books, which he has won many awards for. Patterson hooked me into this book after a few
chapters, I just want to read, read, read.....
NYPD is a fictional book, packed with action and drama, it is about protecting the rich, the famous
and the Hollywood movie stars, at the present day New York City, which has a big event going on,
where every single Hollywood star come to act, known as Hollywood on the Hudson. Detective Zach
Jordan is a part of the NY s elite force known as NYPD Red, but things get awkward when his ex
Kylie MacDonald, come to help solve a crime case, due to the fact that his partner broke his ankle at a
softball game. NYPD Red protect and serve high profile individuals and moguls.

I learnt that Jordan and MacDonald, had dated each other, yet they still have a bit of chemistry,
although she is married to a wealthy television producer. This was my first time reading a crime novel
before, I have read many action novels, but not about crime. I gave this book a try, for a few reasons.
One of them is like the title of the book, NYPD Red , because, from the title, I know that it is based in
New York, one of my favourite cities in the world, and I knew it would be something about crime.
Another reason is due to the fact that, I like crime shows, e.g, Hawaii Five O, Quantico, and Shades of
Blue. So why don t I read a book about crime, it would help me in English. The detectives always kept

Psalm 23 Personal Narrative
Today made it 4 months, 4 weeks and 6 hours since we got off the helicopter and landed in this desert.
I was more of a newbie who just got off the parade squad and was handed a rifle and some piece of
encouragements. I remembered that final night before departure and the fun I had with Sean my best
friend and adopted army elder brother. Well, I am Nate or rather 1042 for those who cared to ask a
newbie.
Sean: Hey newbie! He calls me that when he is either drunk or wants to get me mad. Well, tonight he
was a bit tipsy from the words he spoke.
Nate: Sean, can t wait to get out there on the field and make my country proud. I replied ignoring his
newbie taunts.
Sean: You still a kid in the game. I will advise you not to jump in front of a bullet because of this your
zeal. He said laughing as we packed our bags into the waiting room which we nicknamed Hell
passport office.
As we hopped into the waiting military trucks to the cheers of the other soldiers, I felt a sought of
fulfilment. Sean led us in a military styled version Psalm 23. We all recited it with more vigour and
enthusiasm. As we journeyed further into the war zone, gunshot sounds, RPG s and grenades rented
the air. I already had cold feet, and deep down in my mind, I wished it ... Show more content on

I couldn t really feel my arms due to all the gun handling and shootings. We retired to sleep while the
other batch took over at the war front. Sean and his friends entertained us with stories from their past
war experiences before we all fell asleep. The early morning whistling from our troop commander
woke us up from our slumber. Sean and I quickly rinsed our face as we headed out with the others to
receive the instruction for the day. That day, we were to attack the hideouts of the terrorist in the main
city. Sean and I were assigned to the same team which at least made me happy. We boarded the bus
that was to take us to the town as we waved goodbye to the other troop

The Importance Of College Education
So our education really isn t priceless?
As college costs continue to rise, more and more students are discouraged from furthering their
education and reaching their capabilities to the fullest. In today s society, a college education is
essential for a good career. Based off a Edward Jones survey, 83% of Americans say they cannot
afford the expense of a college education. Growing up in public schools, college has always been
slipped into conversations. Especially in high school, our teachers are preparing us for college.
However, they are not preparing us for our future careers or how to obtain a household income, just
simply for us to attend college. We are taught about the importance of college, but never warned about
the cost of tuition and how to pay for it. In my own personal experience I was not taught how to pay
for college but to just go, just figure it out and go. On average, an in state college is $10,000 a year.
The average american family has an income of around $55,000, however, the average family also
spends around $60,000 a year on bills and necessary items. With this being said, are our tuition rates
reasonable?
With costs being so high, some students can t afford it and just don t go, while others burry themselves
with debt and student loans which can lead to stress and the pressure of dropping out. The term
student loans has been tossed around a lot in high school but no one explains the downsides. In 2016
30% of Americans went to college. Of that 30%,

Vampirism In Dracula
The novel Dracula by Bram Stoker is revered by many as one of the most well known 19th century
Gothic horror because of its use of psychological and supernatural horror, which add on to the already
complex premise of the story. Along with this, Stoker s descriptions of his locations are vivid, which
help the readers in envisioning the ambience and intensity of the scenes, reinforcing the horror aspect
of the novel. Interestingly, the characters have been the subject to numerous scholarly studies, from
literature to psychology, because of their complexity, particularly Mina Murray. As such, this
adaptation intends to focus on those aspects of the novel with video game as the medium to focus on

has become the norm of this current society. In addition to this, the adaptation translates the issue from
the 19th century in the eyes of 21st century audience. Whilst British imperialism is no longer a threat
nowadays, the advancement of technology still persists, especially with the creation of weapons of
mass destruction. Moreover, this adaptation also serves as a social commentary on the 19th century
ideologies, especially to gender and race. By having a diverse cast, it reflects the current population
world and the characters as representatives of these people. This adaptation also references other
adaptations of the novel, which parallels the presence of intertextuality from the text. In doing so, this
adaptation becomes the verisimilitude of the novel itself from bringing life to the Gothic elements to
the interactivity of a video game, and the experiencing the horror the characters experienced from the

Ureteric Calculi Essay
By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med.
Ureteric Calculi Research
Ureteric calculi are stones in the ureters, which are the tubes that are responsible for the drainage of
urine from the kidneys to the bladder. These stones are mostly made up of calcium, but some are
composed of struvite (i.e. magnesium ammonium phosphate), while a few are made of uric acid and a
minority of cysteine.
Inadequate fluid intake is the strongest environmental factor associated with stone formation. Also
implicated in the etiopathogenesis of ureteric calculi are heredity, diet, anatomical abnormalities of the
urinary tract and chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs). Hormonal imbalances and metabolic
derangements, as well as hot/ dry climates, are also linked to ureteric calculi.
Patients with stones in the ureters may present with colicky pain that is abrupt in onset and very
intense. Depending on the location within the ureters, this pain may radiate to the flank, back and/ or
lower abdomen. This may be associated blood in the urine, nausea and vomiting, among other signs
and symptoms.
Diagnosis is made on the basis of an imaging modality, such as kidney ureter bladder (KUB)
radiography, ultrasonography or computed tomography (CT). This may be further complemented with
blood tests and urine plus stone analysis. Treatment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difference Between Good And Evil In The Lion King
Good and Evil are two things that we all have to face each day. We all see things that one may
consider good and other evil. Good and evil can be seen as many things. For example, we have
selfishness and kindness. Those are two meanings of the word evil and good. It is all about morals,
having different morals, as in life, paths the way to what road you will travel down, good or evil. The
movie The Lion King showed us many examples of good and evil. Scar is obviously a choice when it
comes to who was evil. You have your considered good characters in the film. You also had characters
who looked at Scar as good, the hyenas. The movie shows how different individuals have different
morals when it comes to good and evil.
The difference between good and evil varies from people. To some you might have to do big great
things in order to be good as a person. For some people you do not have to do anything at all and still
considered good. It is all about morals, which everyone grows up with different morals. Evil might be
looked at as someone that hurts people every day just because they know they can. His or her sole
purpose is to make sure that everyone feels down when around them. Fascinatingly people can also be
evil by sitting back and doing nothing. For example, if someone is in a fight with more than one
person, and losing, some people will do nothing. This brings me back to morals. One may think that
just by sitting and doing nothing, you are a good person because you

Compare And Contrast Christopher Columbus And John Smith
Christopher Columbus and John Smith are both similar in the fact that they made their kin very proud
and became famous of their accounts of unexplored territory. Though their ideas of what to do with
what they encountered was different, they both were very brave men. They were different in a way
though. Columbus believed that there was a great value in terms of wealth to the natural resources he
saw on the islands and he used a different rhetoric to explain it. John Smith saw economic growth
possibilities in the fertile New England area that had a vast amount of natural resources, he also
valued different commodities than Columbus.
Christopher Columbus s description of the natural resources that he finds was actually quite similar to
John Smith s. Columbus s idea was different from Smith s though, he thought that these natural
resources were much more valuable in terms of wealth. When Columbus saw the beautiful stretches of
land that America had to offer he was excited of the riches that it will bring him and his mother
country Spain. Columbus believed that there was gold to be found in America and that America
stretched bigger than England. John Smith encountered natural resources like crops and fish in New
England, For hunting also: the woods, lakes and rivers afford not only chase sufficient, for any that
delights in that kind of toil, or pleasure;...pay. (Smith 125). The animals that John Smith run into are

The Social Responsibility Of A Business
MF believed that a business itself cannot have any social responsibility. Only the people who own or
are affiliated with the business can have any form of social responsibly. His article, A Friedman
Doctrine : The Social Responsibility of Business if to Increase Its Profits, outlines what this means for
a business s corporate executive. The corporate executive is the employee of the business owner and,
therefore, is directly responsible to them. Friedman states that the corporate executive s responsibility,

(Friedman).
Porter and Kramer take a very different stance on this topic. They believe that there is a very real and
strong link between CSR and competitive analysis. The modern world ranks businesses on their CSR
and directs a significant amount of publicity towards companies who are focused on the health and
welfare of their customers and the earth. The traditional mindset concerning CSR puts business and
society at odds, when in reality they are interdependent and reliant on each other. Porter Kramer think
that antiquated thoughts about CSR have pressured businesses into thinking that there is an only one
generic approach to CSR. This one size fits all mindset does not actually fit all, and it is in no way the
best for all business strategies. Porter Kramer believe this mindset leads to a disconnected and

As a business opportunity, there is scope for investment on new technologies in manufacturing. Within
the manufacturing sector, the significant reform includes the removal of licensing procedures for
investors, reduction of import tariffs, and liberalization of the capital rate. The result has been an
increase of 44% in FDI flows from 2005 to 2006[4].
Laws The economic policies for international business still have many restrictions. The most common
business organization used by foreign investors in India is the locally incorporated company, because
other forms such as partnerships are impossible under the Indian law. Companies may be public or
private, but the common public is not allowed to buy shares of the company and there can only be up
to fifty shareholders. The foreign investments policies of India are: 1. All foreign investment projects
require approval by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. 2. The government permits foreign

Disadvantages Of Grocery Shopping
Today, consumers have countless options on where to get their groceries. They can go to a traditional
retailer like Kroger and Albertson s, who are currently in the lead with $103B and $58B in revenue, go
to a more specialized store like their local bakery, shop at Trader Joe s, or increasingly turn to the
internet for their grocery shopping (source). The amount of options can be overwhelming, with 38,441
supermarkets in the United States alone, supermarkets being grocery stores with sales of $2MM+
annually (source). In addition to the supermarkets, there are 212,000 traditional food stores selling
$571B in retail food and nonfood products in 2011 alone (source). Architectural innovations that have
allowed e commerce to take off are also disrupting the food commerce industry as more people,
specifically millennials opt to do their grocery shopping online. Today, 23% of Americans are buying

Othello the Outsider Essay
Othello the Outsider
Shakespeare s tragic hero, Othello, was a man whose gifts far outnumbered his weaknesses. On the
battlefield, he was accomplished; in his profession, he was highly ranked; and, in his life, he was
blissfully married. Despite these great advantages, however, Othello s destiny was ruin. Everything he
had so carefully made for himself would be destroyed by one flaw: his fear of remaining an outsider.
He feared this fate, yet he harped on it continuously, tearing himself between his identity as a
foreigner and his desire to live as a normal citizen. Even so far back as his first public speech,
perturbations caused by this internal unrest surfaced, and it was unrest that would ultimately lead to
his horrible and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If used too often, the approach turns from rhetoric into reality, and the speaker truly is set apart. This
method of appeal is used in many places by Othello, sometimes in regular conversation, which leads
to the feeling that he actually believes it. Later on, when Iago needs to prey upon a weakness in our
hero, this self doubt turns out to be just the key to instilling distrust and jealousy.
As this first portion of self effacement ends, the text sweeps into a section of grand language and
imagery. Othello becomes picturesque for a moment, stating, For since these arms of mine had seven
years pith / Till now some nine moons wasted, they have used / Their dearest action in the tented field;
/ And little of this great world can I speak / More than pertains to feats of broils and battle (page 19).
Every line in this passage contains a descriptor of either vast time or vast expanse. The images
produced by the use of words that describe large things deliver a spacious, worldly subtext meaning to
Othello s literal meaning. Words such as, seven years, moons, field, and great world create an
extensive, cosmopolitan view of his life that conflicts with the literal meaning of his speech, where he
is bluntly saying that he does not know about anything beyond battle.
The short, artistic detour of the middle of the speech is quickly focused back on topic, though, and it
only takes one line before

Jealousy In Eli Bodeen s The Compound
There are many actions the characters make in the book The Compound. For example, Eli tricked his
brother, Eddy, into going with their grandma to go get Eddy s meds so Eli could get the first airplane
ride. This action shows some competition and maybe a little jealousy. Some jealousy because Eddy
always got to do things first and was popular. Eli wanted to be the head of the show this time. Because
he did this, it caused Eddy and their grandma to be left out of the compound (Bodeen, 2008, p. 2). If
Eli didn t act like this, the entire family would be in the compound. There are many things that can be
learned from this like, in life it is important to be nice to siblings because the next day they could be
gone.

Clea, could produce milk. But the kids were Eli s siblings. The yellow room is symbolic because it
represents the experiments Rex created. The room locks in the supplements. It shows protectiveness
and danger for the supplements. Another reason it is symbolic is it is where Eli saved the supplements
and met them. On one hand it might have been a good choice, but now I think it was a horrible idea
and they should treat Lucas, Cara, and, Quinn like part of the family. I think Rex and Clea made a bad
decision. If Eli never walked in that room, Eli would never have seen them or been close to them. This
decision in the world today wouldn t be noticed because many people become pregnant and send their
children away. Many don t take care of their children or they abuse them. This is definitely not right.
This decision may not have been right but the supplements had a home and were treated with care.

The Fear and the Need for Nuclear Power
 Introduction
Despite the fear of nuclear disasters and proliferation of nuclear weapons, the 435 nuclear power
reactors around the world produce approximately 16 percent of the world s electricity and 19 percent
of electricity in the United States (WIT, 2013). In a world increasingly affected by global warming,
with increasing energy consumption, it is important to acknowledge that nuclear power is a safe,
clean, reliable, and sustainable source of energy, unlike our presumptions. This paper analyzes
potential risks and benefits of nuclear power as a fuel source and why the United States should
continue nuclear power production.
 How Nuclear Power Works
Natural uranium undergoes the steps of mining and milling, conversion, enrichment, and fabrication to
convert it from ore to fuel pellets. Uranium isotopes are enriched, separating the fissionable uranium
from the unfissionable, and a fuel fabricator presses it into fuel rods (WIT, 2013). The atoms in
uranium fuel are split apart to release heat energy, which makes steam and drives a turbine to produce
electricity. Used nuclear fuel is stored in a deep pool of water afterward (WIT, 2013).
Ther two types of commercial nuclear power plants are boiling water reactors and pressurized water
reactors. Out of the 100 reactors in the United States, 65 are pressurized water reactors and 35 are
boiling water reactors (IEA). Boiling water reactors heat the water in the reactor vessel directly into
steam while pressurized water

Analysis Of James Baldwin s Sonny s Blues
James Baldwin was raised in poverty in Harlem where, at the age of fourteen, he became a preacher in
the Fireside Pentecostal Church. After high school he decided to become a writer and with the help of
the black American expatriate writer Richard Wright, won a grant that enabled him to move to Paris,
where he lived most of his remaining years. He wrote a variety of novels mostly about the intellectual
trials of black men in a white, racist society and homosexual themes. James Baldwin wrote Sonny s
Blues which was about the experiences he had with Sonny and he also learned many new things from
both of his parents. The intended audience is towards people giving their loved ones a second chance.
Sonny goes through addiction, he recovers from it and he tries to change his life around.
James Baldwin uses darkness and light multiple times throughout this writing. Darkness and light is
used as a motif in Sonny s Blues. A motif is a recurring pattern used in writing that means something.
Darkness and light represent the good times and bad times. Light is the positive and darkness is the
negative aspects of life. In the beginning of the story James Baldwin writes about not seeing Sonny in
a while and starts to think about him while he is teaching. I stared at it in the swinging lights of the
subway car, and in the faces and bodies of the people, and in my own face, trapped in the darkness
which roared outside. This quote describes the way he feels about the city that he

4. Electricity sources
People have been trying to solve the electricity issue when faced with an acute shortage of electricity,
so every country wants to increase power production in all possible ways. The most prolific source of
electric energy are the nuclear power plants, but the risk of a catastrophic event, such as Chernobyl in
1986, makes people think twice before accepting this kind of energy source. Of course there are other
ways of acquiring electrical energy, called alternative sources of energy. Wind energy, solar energy,
sea waves energy are the latest resources, but the technology for them is still developing so they can
be used only in a few countries. There are many reasons we are looking towards alternative energy
sources. With many countries, and US cities, signing the Kyoto Treaty, efforts to reduce pollutants and
greenhouse gases are a primary focus in today s culture. Alternative, or renewable energy, sources
show significant promise in helping to reduce the amount of toxins that are by products of energy use.
Not only do they protect against harmful by products, but using alternative energy helps to preserve

is Pathos. Pathos is an emotion of sympathetic pity and how you evoking emotions to your audience.
(Dlugan, 2010) In the speech, it is obvious to see that Rudd was emotionally touched and sad about
the tragedy that happened in the past. By seeing the fact, it was the real life example; it does bring him
emotionally into the situation. To the stolen generations, I say the following: as Prime Minister of
Australia, I am sorry. On behalf of the government of Australia, I am Sorry (Rudd, 2008). According
to Cockroft Cockroft (2005, p.182), repetition is the major resource of schematic rhetoric and it is the
spontaneous expression of emotion. In the speech, Rudd often mentioned the word Sorry and Future .
Repetition is an effective technique that Rudd used during the speech. It is used successfully to
maintain the situation and grabbing the attention of audience. Speaking as a third person, the word We

courage to apologize to the public for the better future of his citizens. However, I did search about the

Essay on Violence and the Media
Violence and the Media
Television programming today can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping
behavior (Bee, 1998: 261 262). Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. For
instance, the level of violence during Saturday morning cartoons is higher than the level of violence
during prime time. There are about six to eight violent acts per hour during prime time, versus twenty
to thirty violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons ( Killing Screens, 1994). Also, well
before children finish their grade school, they will witness up to 8,000 murders and 100,000 violent
acts on television (Levine, 1995: 143).
Moreover, children spend more time learning about life through media than in ... Show more content

For example, because young children do not understand the line between fantasy and reality, one may
find children crawling down storm drains looking for them [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles] (Minow
LaMay, 1995: 33). This example clearly represents that children do not understand that their favorite
characters are only made up characters and that they do not exist in reality. However, many children
may act upon their favorite movie or film character in such way, that they will try to imitate them.
Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather model human behavior by observation without
always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. For example,
in Bandura s modeling studies children expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll
called Bobo, when they observed an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on
film, or in a cartoon (Westen, 1996: 206). Therefore, due to the televisions programs role model
capacity to promote real world violence, there is a deep concern that watching violent programs on
television will cause children to become more aggressive. As a result of viewing violent programs on
television, children may become more aggressive toward other children, use violence and
aggressiveness in their play, and use violence to solve their

What Company got so big that even Weird Al Yankovic decided to create Parody to the Backstreet

it drastically fails, due to the many differences between the world s nations. Iran is one example of a

First, I will explain the general idea behind postcolonial theory, specifically orientalism, as it is one
major approach in postcolonial studies. Then I will look at some historical aspects of Iranian identity
development, discussing various events that have affected the psyche of Iranians as a community. I
will focus on Tehran s metropolitan area as it is the major city in Iran. As an outsider to Iranian culture

  • 3. Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life of Ethan Edwards as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the Cavalry officers have Debby or not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman on the floor, screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty decide that Debby is not there and leave. In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent element. Dialogue is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters (Ethan, Marty, Officers and the lady on the floor). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native Americans were being portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the searchers 1956). The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in ... • 4. Their Eyes Were Watching God Identity Essay Many women in the 1930s were striving to to make a name for themselves and find their place in this ever changing world. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie Crawford is a middle aged black woman who is searching to find her place. Janie was raised by her grandmother, a very stern woman who felt strongly about her ideals of a proper life for Janie. Throughout the whole book Janie is searching for her own identity, Joe, Tea Cake, and Nanny all have an effect on Janie and her quest. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nanny, Joe, and Tea Cake all played a role in Janie s development as a person, and it is undeniable that Janie s character would not be what it is without the influence of these people. By the end of the book Janie is able to find stability and joy within herself instead of being reliant on others. The story of Their Eyes Were Watching God, despite being written 80 years ago, has many lessons that are applicable today. Nanny teaches the difference between helping the ones you love, and taking away their choices. Tea Cake teaches how important it is to build other people up and help them to embrace their own personalities. Joe teaches that there is a fine line between ambition and thirst for power. And lastly, Janie teaches how important it is to be able to find happiness within one s self. • 5. Dna Synthesis Lab Report Introduction The Alu elements are the most abundant in the human genome and are present in more than one million copies. They belong to the Short Interspersed Nuclear Elements family of repetitive elements (Hasler and Strub). The presence of the Alu elements had a great influence on the evolution of the human genome. The Alu elements can also lead to both duplications and deletions of DNA segments and provide new regulatory elements to neighboring genes (Hasler and Strub). From this lab, I am trying to find my allele genotype for the Alu gene, and to determine whether the Alu gene is heterozygous, homozygous, or neither. To prepare for the samples, 10 µl of the XC loading buffer was added into the PCR tube. The professor demonstrated the techniques to load the gel with the DNA samples. After learning the techniques, I added my PCR sample in one the the wells. To run the gel, the power supply was set to 100V for approximately 30 minutes. This was my first time reading a crime novel before, I have read many action novels, but not about crime. I gave this book a try, for a few reasons. One of them is like the title of the book, NYPD Red , because, from the title, I know that it is based in New York, one of my favourite cities in the world, and I knew it would be something about crime. Another reason is due to the fact that, I like crime shows, e.g, Hawaii Five O, Quantico, and Shades of Blue. So why don t I read a book about crime, it would help me in English. The detectives always kept me on my toes and making me flip that page after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was more of a newbie who just got off the parade squad and was handed a rifle and some piece of encouragements. I remembered that final night before departure and the fun I had with Sean my best friend and adopted army elder brother. Well, I am Nate or rather 1042 for those who cared to ask a newbie. Sean: Hey newbie! He calls me that when he is either drunk or wants to get me mad. Well, tonight he was a bit tipsy from the words he spoke. Nate: Sean, can t wait to get out there on the field and make my country proud. I replied ignoring his newbie taunts. Sean: You still a kid in the game. I will advise you not to jump in front of a bullet because of this your zeal. He said laughing as we packed our bags into the waiting room which we nicknamed Hell passport office. As we hopped into the waiting military trucks to the cheers of the other soldiers, I felt a sought of fulfilment. Sean led us in a military styled version Psalm 23. • 8. The Importance Of College Education So our education really isn t priceless? As college costs continue to rise, more and more students are discouraged from furthering their education and reaching their capabilities to the fullest. In today s society, a college education is essential for a good career. Based off a Edward Jones survey, 83% of Americans say they cannot afford the expense of a college education. Growing up in public schools, college has always been slipped into conversations. Especially in high school, our teachers are preparing us for college. However, they are not preparing us for our future careers or how to obtain a household income, just simply for us to attend college. We are taught about the importance of college, but never warned about the cost of tuition and how to pay for it. In my own personal experience I was not taught how to pay for college but to just go, just figure it out and go. On average, an in state college is $10,000 a year. The average american family has an income of around $55,000, however, the average family also spends around $60,000 a year on bills and necessary items. With this being said, are our tuition rates reasonable? With costs being so high, some students can t afford it and just don t go, while others burry themselves with debt and student loans which can lead to stress and the pressure of dropping out. The term student loans has been tossed around a lot in high school but no one explains the downsides. In 2016 30% of Americans went to college. Of that 30%, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vampirism In Dracula The novel Dracula by Bram Stoker is revered by many as one of the most well known 19th century Gothic horror because of its use of psychological and supernatural horror, which add on to the already complex premise of the story. Along with this, Stoker s descriptions of his locations are vivid, which help the readers in envisioning the ambience and intensity of the scenes, reinforcing the horror aspect of the novel. Interestingly, the characters have been the subject to numerous scholarly studies, from literature to psychology, because of their complexity, particularly Mina Murray. • 11. Ureteric Calculi Essay By Jonas Wilson, Ing. Med. Ureteric Calculi Research Ureteric calculi are stones in the ureters, which are the tubes that are responsible for the drainage of urine from the kidneys to the bladder. These stones are mostly made up of calcium, but some are composed of struvite (i.e. magnesium ammonium phosphate), while a few are made of uric acid and a minority of cysteine. Inadequate fluid intake is the strongest environmental factor associated with stone formation. Also implicated in the etiopathogenesis of ureteric calculi are heredity, diet, anatomical abnormalities of the urinary tract and chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs). Hormonal imbalances and metabolic derangements, as well as hot/ dry climates, are also linked to ureteric calculi. Patients with stones in the ureters may present with colicky pain that is abrupt in onset and very intense. Depending on the location within the ureters, this pain may radiate to the flank, back and/ or lower abdomen. This may be associated blood in the urine, nausea and vomiting, among other signs and symptoms. • 12. Difference Between Good And Evil In The Lion King Good and Evil are two things that we all have to face each day. We all see things that one may consider good and other evil. Good and evil can be seen as many things. For example, we have selfishness and kindness. Those are two meanings of the word evil and good. It is all about morals, having different morals, as in life, paths the way to what road you will travel down, good or evil. The movie The Lion King showed us many examples of good and evil. Scar is obviously a choice when it comes to who was evil. You have your considered good characters in the film. You also had characters who looked at Scar as good, the hyenas. The movie shows how different individuals have different morals when it comes to good and evil. The difference between good and evil varies from people. To some you might have to do big great things in order to be good as a person. For some people you do not have to do anything at all and still considered good. It is all about morals, which everyone grows up with different morals. Evil might be looked at as someone that hurts people every day just because they know they can. His or her sole purpose is to make sure that everyone feels down when around them. Fascinatingly people can also be evil by sitting back and doing nothing. For example, if someone is in a fight with more than one person, and losing, some people will do nothing. This brings me back to morals. Everything he had so carefully made for himself would be destroyed by one flaw: his fear of remaining an outsider. This method of appeal is used in many places by Othello, sometimes in regular conversation, which leads to the feeling that he actually believes it. Later on, when Iago needs to prey upon a weakness in our hero, this self doubt turns out to be just the key to instilling distrust and jealousy. As this first portion of self effacement ends, the text sweeps into a section of grand language and imagery. Othello becomes picturesque for a moment, stating, For since these arms of mine had seven years pith / Till now some nine moons wasted, they have used / Their dearest action in the tented field; / And little of this great world can I speak / More than pertains to feats of broils and battle (page 19). Every line in this passage contains a descriptor of either vast time or vast expanse. The images produced by the use of words that describe large things deliver a spacious, worldly subtext meaning to Othello s literal meaning. Words such as, seven years, moons, field, and great world create an extensive, cosmopolitan view of his life that conflicts with the literal meaning of his speech, where he is bluntly saying that he does not know about anything beyond battle. The Fear and the Need for Nuclear Power  Introduction Despite the fear of nuclear disasters and proliferation of nuclear weapons, the 435 nuclear power reactors around the world produce approximately 16 percent of the world s electricity and 19 percent of electricity in the United States (WIT, 2013). In a world increasingly affected by global warming, with increasing energy consumption, it is important to acknowledge that nuclear power is a safe, clean, reliable, and sustainable source of energy, unlike our presumptions. This paper analyzes potential risks and benefits of nuclear power as a fuel source and why the United States should continue nuclear power production.  How Nuclear Power Works Natural uranium undergoes the steps of mining and milling, conversion, enrichment, and fabrication to convert it from ore to fuel pellets. Uranium isotopes are enriched, separating the fissionable uranium from the unfissionable, and a fuel fabricator presses it into fuel rods (WIT, 2013). The atoms in uranium fuel are split apart to release heat energy, which makes steam and drives a turbine to produce electricity. Used nuclear fuel is stored in a deep pool of water afterward (WIT, 2013). Ther two types of commercial nuclear power plants are boiling water reactors and pressurized water reactors. Out of the 100 reactors in the United States, 65 are pressurized water reactors and 35 are boiling water reactors (IEA). Boiling water reactors heat the water in the reactor vessel directly into steam while pressurized water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Dlugan, 2010) In the speech, it is obvious to see that Rudd was emotionally touched and sad about the tragedy that happened in the past. By seeing the fact, it was the real life example; it does bring him emotionally into the situation. To the stolen generations, I say the following: as Prime Minister of Australia, I am sorry. On behalf of the government of Australia, I am Sorry (Rudd, 2008). According to Cockroft Cockroft (2005, p.182), repetition is the major resource of schematic rhetoric and it is the spontaneous expression of emotion. In the speech, Rudd often mentioned the word Sorry and Future . Repetition is an effective technique that Rudd used during the speech. It is used successfully to maintain the situation and grabbing the attention of audience. Speaking as a third person, the word We are sorry that been repeated by Rudd during the speech are not referring only to the speakers but also to the nation. • 33. Essay on Violence and the Media Violence and the Media Television programming today can be a powerful influence in developing value systems and shaping behavior (Bee, 1998: 261 262). Unfortunately, much of today s television programming is violent. For instance, the level of violence during Saturday morning cartoons is higher than the level of violence during prime time. There are about six to eight violent acts per hour during prime time, versus twenty to thirty violent acts per hour on Saturday morning cartoons ( Killing Screens, 1994). Also, well before children finish their grade school, they will witness up to 8,000 murders and 100,000 violent acts on television (Levine, 1995: 143). For example, because young children do not understand the line between fantasy and reality, one may find children crawling down storm drains looking for them [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles] (Minow LaMay, 1995: 33). This example clearly represents that children do not understand that their favorite characters are only made up characters and that they do not exist in reality. However, many children may act upon their favorite movie or film character in such way, that they will try to imitate them. Young children instinctively imitate actions, or rather model human behavior by observation without always possessing the intellect or maturity to determine if such actions are appropriate. For example, in Bandura s modeling studies children expressed more aggressive behavior toward the blow up doll called Bobo, when they observed an adult model verbally and physically attack the doll in real life, on film, or in a cartoon (Westen, 1996: 206). Therefore, due to the televisions programs role model capacity to promote real world violence, there is a deep concern that watching violent programs on television will cause children to become more aggressive. As a result of viewing violent programs on television, children may become more aggressive toward other children, use violence and aggressiveness in their play, and use violence to solve their ... If you guessed Amazon, you were wrong. The correct answer is eBay. Weird Al Yankovic describes in the eBay song what he bought on the famous website. In an Article written by Aron Hsiao, Hsiao states, eBay is place to buy meaning, you can get nearly anything you need or want at prices better than you can find in traditional brick and mortar or even online stores. Though there are lots of rotten deals on eBay, too, the careful consumer can always come out ahead.
