Conversion Therapy Case Study
In 2005 a new trend was emerging. A man named Richard Cohen claimed he could use conversion
therapy to convert gays into straight men. He claimed that he had once been gay and is now happily
married with children (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods of conversion included trauma counseling
as well as catharsis methods and group therapy, only to name a few. In his trauma counseling in men
who had been sexually assaulted in their past, he would coddle them and give them a safe haven by
holding them like children, he would also give them a tennis racket and tell them to hit a pillow and
yell at whomever it was they were angry with (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods not only seem
unorthodox but harming. After this report it was found that Cohen was ... Show more content on

therefor his license and his practice was revoked, yet he continued to practice against the ACA code of

Causes Of Suicide Among Young Rural Women
Abstract Suicide is a universal phenomenon that has deep and extensive implications for the overall
wellbeing of a community. Not only is suicide a tragic personal and societal loss, but suicide rates can
also serve as an index of underlying societal problems, such as sources of oppression and lack of
social support. Exhibiting several interesting suicide trends, China is a country that provides ample
opportunity for investigating the problem of suicide and its causes. There are observed Western
patterns of urban, male, and mentally ill populations being at greater risk for suicide trends that are
challenged by the reversed patterns of suicide in China, where youth, female gender, and rural
residence are a potentially lethal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in Western societies, suicide is 3 times more prevalent in urban than in rural areas2, 3 5
times more prevalent in males than in females when measured through completion rates (though
attempt rates are higher among females)3, and 9 times more often associated with mental illness than
not.1 The explanations for these trends draw on psychological and sociological theories: it has been
hypothesized that men are more likely than women to use lethal means of attempting suicide, and that
the economic hardship, unemployment, and social disintegration that afflict city life make suicide a
greater problem in urban than in rural areas.4 In China, however, the trends regarding gender, urban
status, and mental health are surprisingly reversed: rural suicides outnumber urban suicides by a 3:1
ratio, female suicides outnumber male suicides by a 3:1 ratio, and as few as 40% of suicides are
accompanied by mental illness.5
The Western perspective is accustomed to viewing suicide as intrinsically linked to mental health
conditions such as depression, and thus often examines suicide by considering individual
psychological factors. However, the unique patterns of suicide seen in China require an examination
of suicide not only from a mental health perspective, but also from an anthropological perspective that
is sensitive to social stressors, not

Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
1. Abstract
The earthquake which took place on March 11, 20111 in the Tohuku District, Japan triggered a
massive tsunami which eventually caused a nuclear power plant outbreak. The tsunami, 14 metres in
height struck the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, which is located in the towns of Okuma and Futaba
in the Fukushima Prefecture. This resulted in loss of power to the reactors of Units 1, 2 and 3.Along
with this damage, the cooling system failed to work and there were hydrogen explosions which ended
in damaging the nuclear plant. The damages also include extensive release of radioactive substances
into our atmosphere and our earth. This accident certainly did loads of damages to Japan and its
people. There are lots of theories regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There was also the case of certain parties which had failed to follow the chain of command. The prime
minister s office did not announce a state of emergency in the short time after the accident. The
designed emergency response was for the emergency response unit to be the medium of
communication between the prime minister s office and the plant operator,TEPCO.This is to ensure
that the prime minister s office is well informed regarding the situation. But in this case, the prime
minister s office communicated directly with TEPCO and the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. This
clearly shows the incompetence of the authorities to follow the procedures.
2.2 Industrial process and operation Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Plant consists of six nuclear
reactors and the types are the boiling water reactors (BWR). These reactors are light water reactors
and they were all designed by General Electric (GE).These reactors have a total of 4.7 GW in power to
drive the electrical generators. Reactors for units 1, 2 and 6 were supplied by GE whereas units 3 and

The 1996 Baz Lurhman Interpretation of Rome and Juliet
I will be doing my micro analysis on the 1996 Baz Lurhman interpretation of Romeo + Juliet, the
scene I have chosen to analyse takes place after the news report monologue in which after the two
families are introduced. The Capulets and the Montagues engage in an altercation at the petrol station
and I will discuss how mise en scene and cinematography are used in this sequence to construct
meaning. Initially a fast paced high angled tracking shot of the streets, houses and buildings are used
which displays the setting; this fast tracking shot is used along with intense non diegetic music which
connotes a frantic and chaotic feeling for the spectator or could be used to reflect the tone of the
movie. Text then appears on the screen reading In fair Verona the type face used was sans serif in
childish bubble writing, a type face which is typically associated with comic books subsequently
setting the tone of the film. Again numerous fast tracking shots of the chaotic urban city with zooms
are used to reinforce the opening feel of bedlam. In a wide establishing shot, we can see the
positioning of the Capulet and the Montague towers showing that the two families live and or work
next to each other and that they are openly in close competition with each other. Then a fast tracking
shot with a contra zoom is used to get extreme close up shots of the Jesus statue then the Capulet
tower and the Montague tower to a tracking shot of the surrounding areas, these types of shots

Gifts in The Princess and The Tin Box by James Thurber Essay
When I am at King s Buffet, I always wonder what the interesting sushi tastes like, but I always eat
the sweat and sour chicken instead because I don t know what the sushi tastes like. I always wonder
what would happen if I used the shampoo that Heidi Klum advertises but it might make my hair too
oily or too dry. So I continue to use the same brand of shampoo for my hair. How can you pass a test if
you don t study before? How can you play in a symphony if you have never learned to play an
instrument? How can we expect a shallow and spoiled princess who was raised with money to choose
priceless objects over riches? As you grew up, who did you look up to the most? Who had the most

She was raised with wealth, and she was looking for how much money they had instead of how much
personality they had.
I believed that the princess would select the tin box because it tells me that she examined [the] [box]
with great interest and squealed with delight and by telling us that the princess was curious when she
saw the mica, feldspar, and hornblende in the box. And right when I all thought she is going to choose
to marry the poor prince with the big heart, Thurber leaves me disappointed when the princess chooses
the third prince and the platinum box because she will have lots of admirers when she s married who
will fill the box with precious gems.
This is not the fairy tale ending that I expected. I want the selfless princess who will find emotional
value in the box and fall in love with the prince who doesn t have a penny to his name. I want the
happily ever after for the prince who was mocked for giving the princess a worthless gift. Instead, she
ends up with a not so handsome prince.
After reading the story, I can infer that the princess represents everybody in society: the rich, the poor
and everyone in between. The princess knew why she chose the platinum box over the other expensive
gifts: because the box can hold more valuable objects, making it worth more, and thus giving her the
only life she s ever known. The tin box has more sentimental meaning than any of the other gifts, but
it is worth much less. It

Aggression In Yakima
Our group is proposing the research question: Will violent video games bring out aggression in the
students that play them? Our hypothesis for this experiment is violent video games will trigger
aggression in students. The video games ranging from non violent to violent will act as our
independent variable. Our dependent variable will be how we measure the level of aggression every
two weeks. Our experiment should be high in internal validity because we are demonstrating
cause/effect relationships with independent and dependent variables.
To begin our research, we will randomly select 200 students, ages 12 16, within the Yakima School
District. Our external validity should be low because we can only generalize our findings to the

Evolution Of Evolution Through Birds
Evolution Through Birds
Research on the origination of organismal life dates back to seventeenth century. In present day,
scientists are still discovering new concepts on the topic of evolution and adaptation on the molecular
level of science. Modern research topics have gone deeper into the molecular field to better
understand the evolution that took place within a species. Evolutionary biologists have begun to
research the genetic architecture of evolutionary adaptation and speciation.
Researchers seek to find answers to questions such as how large is the effect of specific genes and
what sort of changes result from certain genes. Birds have been an organism that researchers focus on
to understand key components in evolution because of their close relation to many different species of
animals.
Darwin s Finches
Charles Darwin began this revolutionary research by studying a group of finches on the
Galapagos Islands. His interest in the similarity between different species of finches led to the
understanding of evolution that scientists use as basis for modern day research. The beaks of birds
were Darwin s main focal point and continue to be the aspect that reveals most about evolution and
adaption. The reason for beaks importance in the evolution of birds is because of the correlation
between beak size and diet and survival, a relationship that Darwin discovered.
The morphology of these finches beaks was affected by the environment and what food supply

London s Social Class in Robert Louis Stevenson Strange...
London s Social Class in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
One Victorian sentiment was that a civilized individual could be determined by her/his appearance.
This notion was readily adopted by the upper classes and, among other things, helped shape their
views of the lower classes, who certainly appeared inferior to them. In regards to social mobility,
members of the upper classes may have (through personal tragedy or loss) often moved to a lower
class status, but rarely did one see an individual move up from the abysmal lower class. Although
poverty could be found almost anywhere in Victorian London (one could walk along a street of an
affluent neighborhood, turn the corner, and find oneself in an area of depravity and decay), most upper

It was two storeys high. . . and bore in every feature, the marks of prolonged and sordid negligence. . .
Tramps slouched into the recess and struck matches on the panels; children kept shop upon the steps;
the schoolboy had tried his knife on the mouldings; and for close on a generation, no one had appeared
to drive away these random visitors to repair their ravages. (5)
This is the environment in which Stevenson places his novel, in which Hyde, the exemplification of
the East Ender, thrives and commits his heinous and unspoken acts.
If Hyde represents all that Victorian London characterized as the East End, then Henry Jekyll, in turn,
represents London s West End. As Hyde and Jekyll are dual natures of the same entity, then so are
London s East and West sides. Throughout the novel, Stevenson could be using the theme of duality to
represent the growing social and economic barriers that existed between these two parts of the city
especially during the 19th century. More importantly, if the novel can be interpreted as a homoerotic
commentary of 19th century London, then Stevenson could certainly be observing the obvious
increase of homosexuals in the East End, which incited fear and indignation from their more upper
class neighbors to the west.
The reason for Jekyll creating Hyde is to release these (his own) primitive urges and to allow them to
flourish unhindered by societal laws or mores. It

Essay about Biography of Patrick Henry
Biography of Patrick Henry
Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? These noble,
forthright words were spoken by a fiery young patriot and great orator who had dedicated his life to
the goal of winning rights for the people of America.
Patrick Henry was born on May 29 of the year 1736 in Studley, Hanover County, Virginia. He grew up
in a Presbyterian believing home, Patrick s father, John Henry, was a Scott, who taught Patrick most of
his schooling until he was about fifteen.
As Patrick grew up, people found him to be a charming, bright young boy with a gentle, sweet spirit
and a good sense of humor. Yet he was still a boy, who loved to hunt ... Show more content on

There he met a girl named Sarah Shelton. They spent a lot of time together that year and in the
summer of 1754, they got married. Their dowry was a lovely little homestead with a few acres. With
only a few slaves and himself, they soon found that it was not enough to live on with a brand new
baby boy. Then, one dry summer, their little home was burnt to the ground by a brush fire. This
devastating occurrence left the young Henry family completely broke and homeless, and all they had
left was themselves and their slaves. They then moved into the second story of the Shelton s house
until Patrick could find another job. Sarah was not well after this devastation, and she was taken care
of by her family when Patrick was away. Patrick first went to the closest large town to look for a
friend of his, Thomas Jefferson. Patrick knocked at the door of the office, was invited in, and for a
moment could not find where the speaker was from all the books surrounding the walls, covering the
floors and cluttered on the desk. Jefferson was surprised yet not unhappy that Patrick had come to visit
him and inquired what he had come for. I have come to ask what I must do to become a lawyer, was

Is It Better to Be a Human Dissatisfied Than a Pig Satisfied
Oak Trees versus Acorns: Which is better?
It has been argued for centuries now, that people do not grow their full human potential, largely
because they do not participate in a reasonably sophisticated refinement . John Stuart Mill, in his book
Utilitarianism, claims that It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied [Mill JS:
1863]. This essay will show that the advantages of being a human dissatisfied are better than those of
a pig satisfied . But before this can be proven, we have to understand the metaphor that compares
humans to pigs.
Mill compares two types of people: people who prefer to be humans according to his definition, and
those that prefer to be pigs . As pigs would ‘eat up anything that ... Show more content on

Whatever kind of pleasure they prefer is the more worthy kind. Mill uses this concept to show that
knowledgeable, higher order beings prefer the intellectual pleasures:
Now it is an unquestionable fact that those who are equally acquainted with, and equally capable of
appreciating and enjoying both, do give a most marked preference to the manner of existence which
employs their higher faculties. Few human creatures would consent to be changed into any of the
lower animals, for the promise of the fullest allowance of a beast s pleasures; It is better to be a
human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be a Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied.
And if the fool, or the pig, is of a different opinion, it is because they know only their own side of the
question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides.[MillJS:1863]
Mill highlights that a, a fool or pig, can only have a different opinion because it knows only one side
of an issue. But a Socrates or human, knows both sides of an issue, and therefore can have a different
opinion based on valid justification which can only be achieved haven taken all aspects into regard.
Therefore Mill s argument is a good one because it logically argues that people who have experienced
both types of pleasures (intellectual

How The Stock Market Affects The Economy
In the late October of 1929, the United States Stock Market took an immense plummet. This plummet
acted as a catalyst to the beginning of the 10 year long Great Depression. It was known as Black
Tuesday, aka the Wall Street Crash of 1929. (Harold)
Prior to the crash, the roaring twenties built up the stock market. It was a time of wealth, success, and
triumph. It all began with an enormous drop in the market. Panic flooded throughout the entire United
States causing millions of people to pull out, in attempt to keep the little money they had left.
(Colombo)
The Stock Market is a vast and confusing setting. It has influence on many aspects of the economy
like pensions, bond markets, and even retirement accounts. However, many aren t educated about how
the Stock market works, how it affects the economy, the difference between stocks versus bond and
mutual funds, nor the amount of illegal activities taking part within the stock market.
There are a few terms new stock investors should learn before actually beginning to put money into
the stock market. You hear words like shares , assets , and even earnings when you watch or listen to
people on the television. Shares are a percentage of the company, if you buy a share; you own a small
percentage of it and its earnings. Earnings are all the money that the company makes. Assets involve
all the company owns, for example, trademarks, equipment, and even the buildings their workers work
in. Companies put their assets and

Examples Of Insecurities In The World s Wife
In The World s Wife, Duffy challenges recognized historical, fictional and mythological characters
from the perspective of the women, reflections on relations between men and women, the
responsibilities and experiences of partners and lovers, for whom love and relationship are more
complicated than feelings others get. Some of these poems are touched with resentment, others with
blush worthy love. The combination of theme and stylistic variation means that the reader cannot help
but prefer some pieces to others. Instead of shock tactics and personal experiences, she seemed to
create more complex and interesting view.
The theme of insecurities appears throughout the poem as Duffy feels like male are leaving women
based on their appearance. The poem Medusa clearly shows many examples of insecurities. Medusa is
one of the Gorgons three sisters from Greek mythology, famous for having snakes for hair and for
turning people to stone. Medusa has always been well known among people, and was well known for
having unapproachable looks but Duffy tells her story so that the reader can gain sympathy for
Medusa, a monstrous character. The poem begins with A suspicion, a doubt, a jealousy. This conveys
how jealousy has turned the woman into a monster, and how now everything she looks at turns to
stone, which connects to the original mythology. This feeling of doubt and insecurities continues
throughout the poem, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However in the poem, Duffy makes the reader see a distressed lady, who becomes paranoid through
jealousy as she feels like her husband is betraying her because of her looks, and further damages the
relationship between them. Medusa is insecure, turning herself into a Gorgon. She turns everything
into stones as the climax builds up, and this suggests that an insecure woman could be the most
powerful person later as she gets distressed and betrayed by a

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a human pathogen that is responsible for ulcers and stomach
inflammation. The organism had been researched by several scientists around the world since 1875;
however none of them was successfully culture it. Until 1982, Dr. Barry Marshall and Dr. Robin
Warren succeeded in observing the colonies, and thus became the first scientists to discover this
bacterium. By self testing, Dr. Marshall drank a liquid that contained H. pylori culture. A few days

Even though H. pylori is a neutralophile , it can survive in the very acidic environment in the human
stomach due to a variety of acidic adaptive mechanisms, such as the ability to utilize urease to break
down urea Nguyen 2 into ammonia, and thus neutralizing the surrounding acidic environment. Also,
H. pylori contains hydrogenase enzyme, which can oxidize molecules hydrogen being produced by
other gastric bacteria, in order to produce energy. Some other enzymes that can be utilized by H.
pylori are oxidase and catalase , which are also used to test for the presence of this organism. It can
also form biofilm on the gastric mucosa epithelium, which results in its ability to resist against many
antimicrobials. From spiral form, it is able to convert into coccoid form one of its advantage which
helps in its survival and epidemic potential [5].
H. pylori has 4 to 6 lophotrichous flagella which are its favor in motility. Usually, the
enterohepatic and gastric Helicobacter have really strong flagella. Its flagella filaments mainly are

Like other organisms, its outer membrane is composed of phospholipids and lipopolysaccharide [7].

The Virtessity Of Benjamin Franklin s Values Of Morality
How should one act in their everyday lives to best maximize human efficiency? This question
spawned Benjamin Franklin s 13 virtues as he sought so live the rest of his days with poise and proper
manners. He wrote his 13 virtues for human improvement so that any person could follow them and
achieve maximum human efficiency. One of his virtues, frugality, is shown throughout many different
stories and is described by Benjamin Franklin as Make no expense but to do good to others or
yourself; i.e., waste nothing. This idea of frugality is necessary to hold yourself properly when in the
company of others and allows a person to act in a manner of moderation and kindness. Many people
throughout many different literary works have portrayed this quality including the farmer in de
Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer , Mother Shipton in The Outskirts of Poker Flat , and
Lucinda Matlock In de Crevecoeur s Letters from an American Farmer a man describes the vast
differences he sees in the new world compared to his previous life in Europe. He compares the two
countries and begins to find the vast differences between them. Because America is a relatively
underdeveloped country many people must turn to agriculture in order to produce enough food to
survive. This necessity leads to frugality as any waste could lead to severe starvation and death.
Without frugality in a nation such as America and the occupation of being a farmer, all excess food

Measures from External Estimates
External Estimates of the Number of Abortions Pooled and by Individual Year
The counts of the total number of abortions for the study period years come from published
information from the Guttmacher Institute s census of abortion providers (Finer and Henshaw 2003;
Jones and Kavanaugh 2011). Following prior research, I used the CDC s age distribution for each year
to calculate the expected number of abortions that occurred in the age distribution of Add Health for
each year, except in the years when an age distribution was collected by the Guttmacher Institute s
survey of abortion patients (Kost and Jones 2007; Fu et al. 1998). Because the CDC data is provided
in ages ranges (under 15; 15 19; 20 24; 25 29; 30 34; 35 39; 40+), the Add Health data was restricted
to best match these ranges (see Appendix 2 for further details).
The overall quality analyses (years 1994 through 2007) could potentially include pregnancies between
the ages of 10 (the youngest individuals in Wave 1 in 1994) and 32 (the oldest individuals in Wave 4
in 2008). Though it should be noted that pregnancies under the age of 13 would be somewhat

Kennedy Flexible Response Essay
The most successful foreign policy was Flexible Response because it allowed for President John F.
Kennedy to deal with foreign issues with both military and nonmilitary options. Kennedy took the
position after Dwight D. Eisenhower with a narrow victory over Richard Nixon. Though the Soviet
Union was causing trouble at the time, Kennedy focused on Cuba. The foreign policy of Flexible
Response played a large role in dealing with the Soviet Union and Cuba. Cuba had a rising communist
leader named Fidel Castro but as soon as Cuba became friends with the Soviet Union, President
Eisenhower broke ties with the country. To eliminate the threat of the rising leader, President
Eisenhower devised a plan. This event would later be called the Bay of Pigs ... Show more content on

That s why Flexible Response worked because of the different alternatives the government had to
handle the situation. During the Cuban dilemma, the Soviet Union was planning to send nuclear
missiles to Cuba and from there, only ninety miles away, they would be aimed at the United States. To
prevent this Kennedy sent a blockade of ships to stop the missiles from entering Cuba. The situation
became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis and this impacted the people of the United States. From
home, they waited for six long days as the Soviets approached Cuba and the blockade. The people
lived as though this would be their last day because if anyone were to fire, World War III would have
broken out. This was similar to Brinkmanship because the country was approaching the verge of war
but again this was a military option President Kennedy used to stop the missiles from reaching Cuba.
Had Kennedy not send his blockade, the world would have been on the verge of nuclear warfare. This

First of all, I would like to describe my technical conception in my essay. I separated it in two columns
and on the left side I write about the British Parliament and on the other side about the American
Congress. I tried to draw a parallel between the two systems and the columns, which are next to each
other, examine the two institutes from the same aspect. After each section I summarized what has been

The British Parliament is often called the Mother of Parliaments, as the legislative bodies of many
nations—most notably, those of the members of the Commonwealth—are modeled on it. However, it is
a misquotation of John Bright, who had actually remarked on 18 January 1865 that England is the
Mother of Parliaments , in the context of supporting demands for expanded voting rights in a country
which had pioneered Parliamentary government. The Congress of the United States is the legislative
branch of the federal government of the United States of America. It is established by Article One of
the Constitution of the United States, which also deliniates its structure and powers. Congress is a
bicameral legislature, consisting of the House of Representatives (the Lower House ) and the Senate
(the Upper House ).
The House of Representatives consists of 435 members, each of whom is elected by a congressional
district and serves a two year term. Seats in the House are divided between the states on the basis of
population, but each state is entitled to at least one seat. In the Senate, on the other hand, each state is
represented by two members, regardless of population. As there are fifty states in the Union, the
Senate consists of one hundred members. Each Senator, who is elected by the whole state rather than
by a district, serves a six year term. Senatorial terms are staggered so that approximately one third of

Essay on Adoption as an Option for Infertile Women
Imagine getting married to the love of your life, knowing from the day that you first laid eyes on him
that he was the one that was going to father the children that you would have in the coming years.
Three months after having the wedding of your dreams, you find out you are pregnant after two years
of trying to conceive and you could not be happier. Celebrating with friends and family eager to share
with them the good news that you were expecting a miracle after almost giving up, you are jubilant.
After trying for so long and succeeding? (I don t know what word I want to put there yet) nothing
could possibly go wrong. In the following days, you have come to learn that the one thing you longed

Some of the underlying issues with fertility treatments are that some couples have to repeat the whole
process of treatments two to three times before the treatment works. Many times, couples are left
having to spend tens of thousands of dollars. The outcome from in vitro fertilization varies from
couple to couple. A big concern for the sergeant mother is that it can sometimes cost more than an
adoption. Having another woman carry your baby is stressful, you don t know the life they live behind
closed doors, or what they are putting into their body, it is hard to determine if your baby is out of
harms way. And, when looking into adoption the biggest question is to choose International or
Domestic. Whether you are adopting a child internationally or domestically you are doing the best
thing anyone could do by offering a child a place to call home. When adopting internationally rather
than domestically you have given a child the opportunity to experience freedom in the United States,
where they will be able to experience the beauty that life has to offer. In many other countries children
are left with inadequate water, no food, and no shelter. These orphans suffer daily going without food,
which are clothed with dirty clothes, some do not receive the love and affection that is needed to grow

Critical Theories Of Criminology
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and
postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each.
Discussion
There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper
will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups,
moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white
collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes,
including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is
considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the
majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases
crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The
lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes
creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker
members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the
deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an
unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is
described as senseless violence.
The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent
approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm
Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need
for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover,
working together to resolve those issues. This theory views the acts of punishing individuals for
crimes committed as the source for continued criminal acts. A shift from

Dr Strangelove Themes
The Cold War was a period from 1947 to 1991 that adhered erratic tension and constant threat of
nuclear conflict between the two remaining superpowers that emerged from WWII, the U.S. and the
Soviet Union. The 1964 film Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the
Bomb, directed by Stanley Kubrick, depicts the overlying themes of the Cold War in a comedic
fashion. This film s full embodiment of the Cold War is seen through its representation of the time
period, and the sheer competitiveness between the United States and Russia. Additionally, due to
many of Kubrick s movie decisions, the film has helped society acknowledge and understand the pure
absurdity that the topic of nuclear destruction holds. In Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

General alone goes rogue and sends the missiles toward Russia. This puts the U.S. President in an
immensely tight scenario.
The film delves into some of the difficult options leaders have to choose from in cases involving
nuclear weapons. Nuclear conflicts are extraordinarily complex, with many potential unpredictable
outcomes. After General Ripper directs his plane to bomb the enemy, he describes his thought process
to one of his officers, ...when [the president s advisors] realize there is no possibility in recalling the
wing there will be only one course of action: open, total commitment . Here, a total commitment
consists of the U.S. supporting General Ripper s plan by utilizing their full arsenal of nuclear weapons
to attack Russia. General Buck Turgidson, one of the President s top advisors, echoes this exact idea in
the war room and proposes to the U.S. President a full commitment. This was a possible solution that
could have neutralized all of Russia in one wave of nuclear missiles; however, this strategy is frowned
upon and dismissed by the President as it would reflect poorly on the U.S. diplomatic reputation in the
long run.
An aspect of the Cold War that Kubrick focuses on is the blatant lack of trust between the conflicting
nations. In a scene where a Russian Ambassador is being brought into the war room by the U.S.
President to help determine a mutual solution,

Marxist View of the Capitalistic Mode of Production and...
Karl Marx s view on the capitalistic mode of production highlights the exploitative nature of this
economic system and points to its development as a necessary continuation of feudal societies many
centuries ago. He demonstrates how the bourgeoisie take advantage of the labor power of the
proletariat, creating profit and fueling the expansion necessary to keep profit margins at acceptable
levels. Marx argues that this economic system, in which capital is the basis of wealth, sprung from the
fall of feudalism when the means of production made obsolete the feudalistic relations of production,
in which ownership of land was the basis of wealth. His claim, therefore, that capitalistic societies are
exploitative class societies is true when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This upper class then finds a market in which the fruits of proletariat labor can be reaped at a higher
price, and the surplus value of that transaction is hoarded by the bourgeoisie. It is important to note
that these wealthy persons have considerable incentive to reinvest their profits into the means of
production, thereby improving technology and lowering input costs, but at the same time furthering
the dependence of the proletariat on the bourgeoisie by making the prospect of a return to the old
modes of production increasingly less viable. However, Marx argues that this process cannot sustain
itself without the fulfillment of certain conditions. The capitalist mode of production relies upon an
expanding market and the constant overhaul of the means of production, though these requirements
are not always met and the result is economic crises. Marx argues that it is essential for these
conditions to be met in order to keep profit margins from falling to unacceptable levels at which the
economy will inevitably sink into depression or recession. However, he also acknowledges the
impossibility of maintaining economic stability over the long run and submits that there will always be
instances of economic crisis. Marx s reasoning demonstrates how the capitalist mode of production
arose from the fall of feudalistic

Comparing Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince Essay
Christian Liberty, Utopia, and The Prince
A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none...A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant to
all, subject to none. (Luther Pg. 7) These lines show what Luther is truly about. In Christian Liberty,
Luther believes in the reestablishing of God as the inner authority. In Utopia, Thomas More believes
the power should be in one group and that the rest of the common people in the society should all be
equal like a communist society. In The Prince, Machievelli believes that the power is within the
prince. I choose Christian Liberty as the best form of authority because it is the closest to being an
honest and true way of authority. Although none of the books portray ... Show more content on

Is not such a soul most obedient to God in all things by this faith? ...What more complete fulfillment is
there than obedience in all things? This obedience, however, is not rendered by works but by faith
alone. (Luther page 13) In this passage Luther is explaining the inner man versus the outer man. He is
showing that if you trust and believe in God then he will never steer you wrong but if you don t then,
what greater wickedness, what greater contempt of God is there than not believing his promise...but to
make God a liar or to doubt that he is truthful? That is to ascribe truthfulness to one s self but lying
and vanity in God?
This quote shows the dismal side of not believing in God and his supreme power and authority. If you
were to doubt him whom would you go to for salvation once he gave up on you?
Man has a two fold nature, a spiritual and a bodily one. According to the spiritual nature, which men
refer to as the soul, he is called a spiritual, inner or new man. According to the bodily nature which
men refer to as flesh, he is called a carnal, outward, or old man. (Luther page 7) We have first talked
about the spiritual aspect of a person now we are going to talk about the physical aspect.
Now let us turn to the second part, the outer man. Here we shall answer all those who, offended by the

Import stripping area is the Area inside the terminal that the customs inspection activities take place
and then the importer has option to strip the container inside this area or take it outside the port to his
premises. This Area and the activities happening inside it has become the source of empty containers
for export because this empty containers go to Shipping Line Container Yard where the line receive
container to decide what to do with it.
Low and poor performance in the Import stripping area will negatively affect the rest of the activities.
In this document we will present only the export Activates which is primary activities of the value
chain and is directly affect the customer experience.
The pain points are mainly resulted from lack of containers handling equipment and the behaviour of
labour in the terminal. For example, if 100 Containers stripped per day (in our system Log File) 50
containers inside Import stripping area and 50 containers outside the port 10 Containers only will be
shifted from the Import stripping area to Shipping Line Container Yard to use for export at that day
and all 50 from outside will reach Shipping Line Container Yard. While exporters need 70 containers
per day for their cargo.
The current situation is we provide 10 containers from Import stripping area plus 50 containers
returned from outside the terminal. this resulted in losing 10 containers from export volume or delay
them to the next day.

Why Engineers And Software Developers For Google
Driverless Vehicles Cars represent a considerable part of people s everyday life. They are used to visit
ancestors or colleagues; many need them for work or getting to school faster. However drivers need
loads of concentration and accidents are caused as a result of distraction. That is why engineers and
software developers for Google, Volvo and other companies, have been working on driverless vehicles
for the last years. They are designed to make lives easier in a bunch of ways. While they provide a
new kind of functionality, they operate different than cars that need a motorist. Whereas the new
possibilities they present are not all known yet, it is a certainty that they will also cause problems that
did not exist before. The only fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is caused mostly by the fact that driverless cars require a new and different kind of technology to
work properly. After all, they are supposed to provide safety for the humans in them and at the same
time are making almost all the decisions a driver usually makes. In the beginning, it will be obvious to
everybody which car needs a car handler and which does not without even looking at the driver s seat.
The cameras and sensors will clearly tell them apart. But as time passes by the technology and design
will advance and flow together in a more appealing way. This improvement will also benefit other
aspects of life, as every new invention also is a new thought provoking impulse. Nevertheless the
technology is not only on the outside of the cars it is also on the inside. The software driverless cars
are using can be used as a base for other communication systems or might be improved by those. As in
many other systems the key [...] is Big Data the mounds of information flowing in and out of your
vehicle (Muller), therefore those cars work like daily life communication, and send each other their
current location, their speed or other important information that might concern the other car. As this
system has to improve to provide more safety it could not only be adapted in daily life again and make
it cheaper, it is also improving the efficiency. Still, people might say that those cars will not be

What Were The Pros Of The Vikings
By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery after
another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It
was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell,
1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They
were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as
insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell,
1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids
on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a certain stereotype of their being wild,
rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history. They became notorious for being merciless
barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. But were they really like that? To what extent ... Show more

They practiced quite a humanistic approach towards the criminals. The criminals were either banished
or imposed with a financial compensation: no death sentence was implemented. The Alping was an

dealt with commercial and trade issues as well. (Short, 2010) Along with being good warriors and
accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham Campbell, 1980). The
Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For instance, Irish architecture and
sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English vocabulary is full of Norse words, etc.

Nikita Khrushchev s Impact On The Soviet Union
Ottepel (the thaw) refers to the period after the death of Stalin, when Nikita Khrushchev loosened
control in the Soviet. Causing unprecedented social, cultural, and economic transformations in the
Soviet Union, the thaw attempted to initiate policies of de Stalinization. It was a chain of
unprecedented steps to free people from fear and dictatorship. Khrushchev s determination to de
Stalinize the country led to unexpected consequences as both the political and cultural thaws were
ended with the removal of Khrushchev in 1964. These political and cultural ideals helped liberate and
change the public consciousness of several generations of people in the Soviet Union. Additionally,
Khrushchev s efforts to change the Soviet society and move away from its past served as models for
Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost during his tenure.
Glasnost, also known as openness , was an ideal instituted by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1985. Gorbachev
wanted for transparency in government actions in order to better inform the Soviet people. These
actions looked to limit government censorship, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security
Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions
combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of
Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is
how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How
do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect
those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would
want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national
defense.
Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the
population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally
been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state
National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many
necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus
Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy
enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also
amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by

Taking a Look at Günter Blobel
Günter Blobel was born on May 21, 1936 in a small Silesian village in Waltersdorf, Germany, now
known as Niegosawice, Poland. Until 1945, Blobel s childhood was a perfect 19th century paradise.
He enjoyed the cold, snow rich Silesian s winters with hour long rides on a horse drawn sleighs to
[his] maternal grandparent s farm to have lunch and spend the afternoon [1]. However, during the end
of January 1945, his life took a turn for the worse. The Russian Red Army was quickly advancing on
the town, so his family had to flee in a small car to a relative s house in Dresden. A few days later, on
February 13, 1945, only days after their stay in Dresden, one of the most disastrous air bombing
attacks of WW II decimated the city. As Blobel describes it, the red night sky reflected the raging
firestorm that destroyed the jewels of this once great city [1]. This was an unforgettably sad day that
Blobel will remember forever. Luckily, it was not long before the war came to an end, but the months
before and after were miserable and hard as his family had to live separated with no communication
and little food. Then, on September 9, 1945, he learned that his oldest sister, Ruth, who was only 19,
was killed after a train she was travelling on was struck by an air raid. The two had a very close,
sisterly relationship, so the news of her death left him and his family deeply sadden. Fortunately, in
1947, things had gotten better as his family was reunited once again and the horrors of

Driving Age Argument
The question inquired is whether raising the driving age to 18 or imposing a graduated driver s license
(GDL) would lower the accident raise for teens. The advocates for both say that the restrictions would
lower allow teens to get behind the wheel when they are ready. Although neither would work well, one
must be chosen.
The reasons advocates of a higher driving age give for its existence is that 16 year olds aren t ready for
driving yet. The writer, Rep. John D Amico of the Illinois state legislature, gives of the example of an
accident where two teens died in an accident. What he does not give is more examples to prove that
this wasn t an isolated incident. Another reason that advocates provide for the higher driving age is

The writer of the passage, Alex Koroknay Palicz, says If your neighbor robs a bank, should you go to
jail? If your classmate gets in an accident, should your license be taken away? Opponents also show
that research says that experience, not age, is what causes teens to statistically worse at driving than
adults. They compare the argument of advocates to saying that men shouldn t be able to drive because
they are statistically more likely to be in accidents than women. They also bring up that teens have to
deal with the same things as adults. The need to be able to get to a job. Without a car, they cannot.
The proposed alternative to raising the driving age is a GDL. A GDL, or a graduated driver s license,
gives teens more freedoms depending on how much they have driven. Advocates say that it gives
teens the time they need to practice before having complete freedom. The opponents say it limits the
time they have to practice due to restrictions on when teens can drive. Another reason opponents give
for not having a GDL is that it makes it harder for teens to get jobs because they have limited hours
when they can drive. The argument for for and against are similar to the arguments for a higher

Writing Instruments That Evolved Into A Process
Dturing English 122, I adapted several writing instruments that evolved into a process, in turn, I used
this to compose my first and final drafts of my narrative and persuasive essays. Originating the term, I
had a fear and deep resentment for writing; however, in week three, I finally attained a point where I
began to enjoy the writing process. When I look back over the last eight weeks, I use three things that
improved my writing, specifically, a process style chart, transitional phrases, and the proper way of
revising my assignment for this course that improved my writing and will benefit future classes. First,
process style chart (MindEdge 5.01), profoundly improved the speed, organization, and quality of my
composition. I merely transferred the process of module five, Refining the Order of Your Ideas (#2

Theme of The Jungle Essay
In the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair; this was first published by Fine Creative Media Inc. in 1906
(edition I read was published in 2003) it discuses life as an immigrant and how immigrants foresaw
the American dream and how they tired to achieve it. There where many themes for the book. The
theme that I took was most important was that life on the other side is not always better then what one
has. This theme can be shown many different ways throughout the book. It is shown through the plot
and through many examples of event that occurred though the book. In The Jungle a young man

better life then what they had in Lithuania. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

some time of being in and out of jail Jurgis finally gets a job working at a hotel. He will become back

hotel. As I read the book I felt more and more sorry for Jurgis and his family. The struggles and
hardships that they went though as well as what other immigrants where going through at the time. I
feel that people during this time where treated very unfairly and when it came to the meat packing
companies I think that the cows pigs had a better life. This is because the animals where fed every day
no matter what because the people that wanted to sell them needed for them to look like that had a lot
of meat on them not just skin and bone. The pay that the people working in these plants made did not
always pay for the rent of their one rat infested room, let alone to put food on the table. Some of the

  • 2. Conversion Therapy Case Study In 2005 a new trend was emerging. A man named Richard Cohen claimed he could use conversion therapy to convert gays into straight men. He claimed that he had once been gay and is now happily married with children (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods of conversion included trauma counseling as well as catharsis methods and group therapy, only to name a few. In his trauma counseling in men who had been sexually assaulted in their past, he would coddle them and give them a safe haven by holding them like children, he would also give them a tennis racket and tell them to hit a pillow and yell at whomever it was they were angry with (CNN Report..., 2006). His methods not only seem unorthodox but harming. After this report it was found that Cohen was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Causes Of Suicide Among Young Rural Women Abstract Suicide is a universal phenomenon that has deep and extensive implications for the overall wellbeing of a community. Not only is suicide a tragic personal and societal loss, but suicide rates can also serve as an index of underlying societal problems, such as sources of oppression and lack of social support. Exhibiting several interesting suicide trends, China is a country that provides ample opportunity for investigating the problem of suicide and its causes. There are observed Western patterns of urban, male, and mentally ill populations being at greater risk for suicide trends that are challenged by the reversed patterns of suicide in China, where youth, female gender, and rural residence are a potentially lethal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in Western societies, suicide is 3 times more prevalent in urban than in rural areas2, 3 5 times more prevalent in males than in females when measured through completion rates (though attempt rates are higher among females)3, and 9 times more often associated with mental illness than not.1 The explanations for these trends draw on psychological and sociological theories: it has been hypothesized that men are more likely than women to use lethal means of attempting suicide, and that the economic hardship, unemployment, and social disintegration that afflict city life make suicide a greater problem in urban than in rural areas.4 In China, however, the trends regarding gender, urban status, and mental health are surprisingly reversed: rural suicides outnumber urban suicides by a 3:1 ratio, female suicides outnumber male suicides by a 3:1 ratio, and as few as 40% of suicides are accompanied by mental illness.5 The Western perspective is accustomed to viewing suicide as intrinsically linked to mental health conditions such as depression, and thus often examines suicide by considering individual psychological factors. However, the unique patterns of suicide seen in China require an examination of suicide not only from a mental health perspective, but also from an anthropological perspective that is sensitive to social stressors, not ... • 4. Fukushima Nuclear Disaster 1. Abstract The earthquake which took place on March 11, 20111 in the Tohuku District, Japan triggered a massive tsunami which eventually caused a nuclear power plant outbreak. The tsunami, 14 metres in height struck the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, which is located in the towns of Okuma and Futaba in the Fukushima Prefecture. This resulted in loss of power to the reactors of Units 1, 2 and 3.Along with this damage, the cooling system failed to work and there were hydrogen explosions which ended in damaging the nuclear plant. The damages also include extensive release of radioactive substances into our atmosphere and our earth. This accident certainly did loads of damages to Japan and its people. There are lots of theories regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would have perhaps managed to contain the situation and less consequence would have incurred. There was also the case of certain parties which had failed to follow the chain of command. The prime minister s office did not announce a state of emergency in the short time after the accident. The designed emergency response was for the emergency response unit to be the medium of communication between the prime minister s office and the plant operator,TEPCO.This is to ensure that the prime minister s office is well informed regarding the situation. But in this case, the prime minister s office communicated directly with TEPCO and the Fukushima Daiichi power plant. This clearly shows the incompetence of the authorities to follow the procedures. 2.2 Industrial process and operation Fukushima Daichi Nuclear Power Plant consists of six nuclear reactors and the types are the boiling water reactors (BWR). These reactors are light water reactors and they were all designed by General Electric (GE).These reactors have a total of 4.7 GW in power to drive the electrical generators. Reactors for units 1, 2 and 6 were supplied by GE whereas units 3 and 5 were supplied by Toshiba and Hitachi supplied the unit 4. 2.2.1 Working Principle of BWR The BWR s working principles is as such, the reactors heats the water, which then ... • 5. The 1996 Baz Lurhman Interpretation of Rome and Juliet I will be doing my micro analysis on the 1996 Baz Lurhman interpretation of Romeo + Juliet, the scene I have chosen to analyse takes place after the news report monologue in which after the two families are introduced. The Capulets and the Montagues engage in an altercation at the petrol station and I will discuss how mise en scene and cinematography are used in this sequence to construct meaning. Initially a fast paced high angled tracking shot of the streets, houses and buildings are used which displays the setting; this fast tracking shot is used along with intense non diegetic music which connotes a frantic and chaotic feeling for the spectator or could be used to reflect the tone of the movie. Text then appears on the screen reading In fair Verona the type face used was sans serif in childish bubble writing, a type face which is typically associated with comic books subsequently setting the tone of the film. Again numerous fast tracking shots of the chaotic urban city with zooms are used to reinforce the opening feel of bedlam. In a wide establishing shot, we can see the positioning of the Capulet and the Montague towers showing that the two families live and or work next to each other and that they are openly in close competition with each other. Then a fast tracking shot with a contra zoom is used to get extreme close up shots of the Jesus statue then the Capulet tower and the Montague tower to a tracking shot of the surrounding areas, these types of shots ... • 6. Gifts in The Princess and The Tin Box by James Thurber Essay When I am at King s Buffet, I always wonder what the interesting sushi tastes like, but I always eat the sweat and sour chicken instead because I don t know what the sushi tastes like. I always wonder what would happen if I used the shampoo that Heidi Klum advertises but it might make my hair too oily or too dry. So I continue to use the same brand of shampoo for my hair. How can you pass a test if you don t study before? How can you play in a symphony if you have never learned to play an instrument? How can we expect a shallow and spoiled princess who was raised with money to choose priceless objects over riches? As you grew up, who did you look up to the most? Who had the most influence on you when you made hard decisions? For most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was raised with wealth, and she was looking for how much money they had instead of how much personality they had. I believed that the princess would select the tin box because it tells me that she examined [the] [box] with great interest and squealed with delight and by telling us that the princess was curious when she saw the mica, feldspar, and hornblende in the box. And right when I all thought she is going to choose to marry the poor prince with the big heart, Thurber leaves me disappointed when the princess chooses the third prince and the platinum box because she will have lots of admirers when she s married who will fill the box with precious gems. This is not the fairy tale ending that I expected. I want the selfless princess who will find emotional value in the box and fall in love with the prince who doesn t have a penny to his name. I want the happily ever after for the prince who was mocked for giving the princess a worthless gift. Instead, she ends up with a not so handsome prince. After reading the story, I can infer that the princess represents everybody in society: the rich, the poor and everyone in between. The princess knew why she chose the platinum box over the other expensive gifts: because the box can hold more valuable objects, making it worth more, and thus giving her the only life she s ever known. The tin box has more sentimental meaning than any of the other gifts, but it is worth much less. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Aggression In Yakima Our group is proposing the research question: Will violent video games bring out aggression in the students that play them? Our hypothesis for this experiment is violent video games will trigger aggression in students. The video games ranging from non violent to violent will act as our independent variable. Our dependent variable will be how we measure the level of aggression every two weeks. Our experiment should be high in internal validity because we are demonstrating cause/effect relationships with independent and dependent variables. To begin our research, we will randomly select 200 students, ages 12 16, within the Yakima School District. Our external validity should be low because we can only generalize our findings to the Yakima School ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Evolution Of Evolution Through Birds Evolution Through Birds Research on the origination of organismal life dates back to seventeenth century. In present day, scientists are still discovering new concepts on the topic of evolution and adaptation on the molecular level of science. Modern research topics have gone deeper into the molecular field to better understand the evolution that took place within a species. Evolutionary biologists have begun to research the genetic architecture of evolutionary adaptation and speciation. Researchers seek to find answers to questions such as how large is the effect of specific genes and what sort of changes result from certain genes. Birds have been an organism that researchers focus on to understand key components in evolution because of their close relation to many different species of animals. Darwin s Finches Charles Darwin began this revolutionary research by studying a group of finches on the Galapagos Islands. His interest in the similarity between different species of finches led to the understanding of evolution that scientists use as basis for modern day research. The beaks of birds were Darwin s main focal point and continue to be the aspect that reveals most about evolution and adaption. The reason for beaks importance in the evolution of birds is because of the correlation between beak size and diet and survival, a relationship that Darwin discovered. The morphology of these finches beaks was affected by the environment and what food supply Albert 2 was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. London s Social Class in Robert Louis Stevenson Strange... London s Social Class in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde One Victorian sentiment was that a civilized individual could be determined by her/his appearance. This notion was readily adopted by the upper classes and, among other things, helped shape their views of the lower classes, who certainly appeared inferior to them. In regards to social mobility, members of the upper classes may have (through personal tragedy or loss) often moved to a lower class status, but rarely did one see an individual move up from the abysmal lower class. Although poverty could be found almost anywhere in Victorian London (one could walk along a street of an affluent neighborhood, turn the corner, and find oneself in an area of depravity and decay), most upper class ... (5) This is the environment in which Stevenson places his novel, in which Hyde, the exemplification of the East Ender, thrives and commits his heinous and unspoken acts. If Hyde represents all that Victorian London characterized as the East End, then Henry Jekyll, in turn, represents London s West End. As Hyde and Jekyll are dual natures of the same entity, then so are London s East and West sides. Throughout the novel, Stevenson could be using the theme of duality to represent the growing social and economic barriers that existed between these two parts of the city especially during the 19th century. More importantly, if the novel can be interpreted as a homoerotic commentary of 19th century London, then Stevenson could certainly be observing the obvious increase of homosexuals in the East End, which incited fear and indignation from their more upper class neighbors to the west. The reason for Jekyll creating Hyde is to release these (his own) primitive urges and to allow them to flourish unhindered by societal laws or mores. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These noble, forthright words were spoken by a fiery young patriot and great orator who had dedicated his life to the goal of winning rights for the people of America. Patrick Henry was born on May 29 of the year 1736 in Studley, Hanover County, Virginia. He grew up in a Presbyterian believing home, Patrick s father, John Henry, was a Scott, who taught Patrick most of his schooling until he was about fifteen. Then, one dry summer, their little home was burnt to the ground by a brush fire. It has been argued for centuries now, that people do not grow their full human potential, largely because they do not participate in a reasonably sophisticated refinement . John Stuart Mill, in his book Utilitarianism, claims that It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied [Mill JS: 1863]. This essay will show that the advantages of being a human dissatisfied are better than those of a pig satisfied . Few human creatures would consent to be changed into any of the lower animals, for the promise of the fullest allowance of a beast s pleasures; It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be a Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, is of a different opinion, it is because they know only their own side of the question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides.[MillJS:1863] Mill highlights that a, a fool or pig, can only have a different opinion because it knows only one side of an issue. But a Socrates or human, knows both sides of an issue, and therefore can have a different opinion based on valid justification which can only be achieved haven taken all aspects into regard. Import stripping area is the Area inside the terminal that the customs inspection activities take place and then the importer has option to strip the container inside this area or take it outside the port to his premises. This Area and the activities happening inside it has become the source of empty containers for export because this empty containers go to Shipping Line Container Yard where the line receive container to decide what to do with it. Low and poor performance in the Import stripping area will negatively affect the rest of the activities. In this document we will present only the export Activates which is primary activities of the value chain and is directly affect the customer experience. The pain points are mainly resulted from lack of containers handling equipment and the behaviour of labour in the terminal. For example, if 100 Containers stripped per day (in our system Log File) 50 containers inside Import stripping area and 50 containers outside the port 10 Containers only will be shifted from the Import stripping area to Shipping Line Container Yard to use for export at that day and all 50 from outside will reach Shipping Line Container Yard. While exporters need 70 containers per day for their cargo. The current situation is we provide 10 containers from Import stripping area plus 50 containers returned from outside the terminal. this resulted in losing 10 containers from export volume or delay them to the next day. ... • 28. Why Engineers And Software Developers For Google Driverless Vehicles Cars represent a considerable part of people s everyday life. They are used to visit ancestors or colleagues; many need them for work or getting to school faster. However drivers need loads of concentration and accidents are caused as a result of distraction. That is why engineers and software developers for Google, Volvo and other companies, have been working on driverless vehicles for the last years. They are designed to make lives easier in a bunch of ways. While they provide a new kind of functionality, they operate different than cars that need a motorist. Whereas the new possibilities they present are not all known yet, it is a certainty that they will also cause problems that did not exist before. The only fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is caused mostly by the fact that driverless cars require a new and different kind of technology to work properly. After all, they are supposed to provide safety for the humans in them and at the same time are making almost all the decisions a driver usually makes. In the beginning, it will be obvious to everybody which car needs a car handler and which does not without even looking at the driver s seat. The cameras and sensors will clearly tell them apart. But as time passes by the technology and design will advance and flow together in a more appealing way. This improvement will also benefit other aspects of life, as every new invention also is a new thought provoking impulse. Nevertheless the technology is not only on the outside of the cars it is also on the inside. The software driverless cars are using can be used as a base for other communication systems or might be improved by those. As in many other systems the key [...] is Big Data the mounds of information flowing in and out of your vehicle (Muller), therefore those cars work like daily life communication, and send each other their current location, their speed or other important information that might concern the other car. As this system has to improve to provide more safety it could not only be adapted in daily life again and make it cheaper, it is also improving the efficiency. Still, people might say that those cars will not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. What Were The Pros Of The Vikings By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery after another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a certain stereotype of their being wild, rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history. They became notorious for being merciless barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. (Short, 2010) Along with being good warriors and accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham Campbell, 1980). The Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For instance, Irish architecture and sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English vocabulary is full of Norse words, etc. (Short, 2010). • 30. Nikita Khrushchev s Impact On The Soviet Union Ottepel (the thaw) refers to the period after the death of Stalin, when Nikita Khrushchev loosened control in the Soviet. Causing unprecedented social, cultural, and economic transformations in the Soviet Union, the thaw attempted to initiate policies of de Stalinization. It was a chain of unprecedented steps to free people from fear and dictatorship. Khrushchev s determination to de Stalinize the country led to unexpected consequences as both the political and cultural thaws were ended with the removal of Khrushchev in 1964. These political and cultural ideals helped liberate and change the public consciousness of several generations of people in the Soviet Union. Additionally, Khrushchev s efforts to change the Soviet society and move away from its past served as models for Gorbachev s perestroika and glasnost during his tenure. Glasnost, also known as openness , was an ideal instituted by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1985. Gorbachev wanted for transparency in government actions in order to better inform the Soviet people. • 31. Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national defense. Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by ... • 32. Taking a Look at Günter Blobel Günter Blobel was born on May 21, 1936 in a small Silesian village in Waltersdorf, Germany, now known as Niegosawice, Poland. Until 1945, Blobel s childhood was a perfect 19th century paradise. He enjoyed the cold, snow rich Silesian s winters with hour long rides on a horse drawn sleighs to [his] maternal grandparent s farm to have lunch and spend the afternoon [1]. However, during the end of January 1945, his life took a turn for the worse. The Russian Red Army was quickly advancing on the town, so his family had to flee in a small car to a relative s house in Dresden. A few days later, on February 13, 1945, only days after their stay in Dresden, one of the most disastrous air bombing attacks of WW II decimated the city. As Blobel describes it, the red night sky reflected the raging firestorm that destroyed the jewels of this once great city [1]. This was an unforgettably sad day that Blobel will remember forever. Luckily, it was not long before the war came to an end, but the months before and after were miserable and hard as his family had to live separated with no communication and little food. Then, on September 9, 1945, he learned that his oldest sister, Ruth, who was only 19, was killed after a train she was travelling on was struck by an air raid. The two had a very close, sisterly relationship, so the news of her death left him and his family deeply sadden. Fortunately, in 1947, things had gotten better as his family was reunited once again and the horrors of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to show this, the project must contain artwork from each Adobe program such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Animate. Photoshop can either show our abilities in editing photographs, how we can create gifs or simply how we can use it to draw. Illustrator is mostly about vector drawings and shows how we can use it to create 3D images or simple logo designs. Indesign will show how well we can format, through creating simple menus or as complex as creating magazines. Animate, on the other hand, will show how we can also create moving images, short animations and can also be used to create gifs. Each piece of work will reflect my artistic abilities, creativeness, art style as well as my strengths and weaknesses in each program. • 34. Driving Age Argument The question inquired is whether raising the driving age to 18 or imposing a graduated driver s license (GDL) would lower the accident raise for teens. The advocates for both say that the restrictions would lower allow teens to get behind the wheel when they are ready. Although neither would work well, one must be chosen. The reasons advocates of a higher driving age give for its existence is that 16 year olds aren t ready for driving yet. The writer, Rep. John D Amico of the Illinois state legislature, gives of the example of an accident where two teens died in an accident. What he does not give is more examples to prove that this wasn t an isolated incident. Another reason that advocates provide for the higher driving age is that government ... If your classmate gets in an accident, should your license be taken away? Opponents also show that research says that experience, not age, is what causes teens to statistically worse at driving than adults. They compare the argument of advocates to saying that men shouldn t be able to drive because they are statistically more likely to be in accidents than women. They also bring up that teens have to deal with the same things as adults. The need to be able to get to a job. Without a car, they cannot. The proposed alternative to raising the driving age is a GDL. A GDL, or a graduated driver s license, gives teens more freedoms depending on how much they have driven. Advocates say that it gives teens the time they need to practice before having complete freedom. The opponents say it limits the time they have to practice due to restrictions on when teens can drive. Another reason opponents give for not having a GDL is that it makes it harder for teens to get jobs because they have limited hours when they can drive. • 35. Writing Instruments That Evolved Into A Process Dturing English 122, I adapted several writing instruments that evolved into a process, in turn, I used this to compose my first and final drafts of my narrative and persuasive essays. Originating the term, I had a fear and deep resentment for writing; however, in week three, I finally attained a point where I began to enjoy the writing process. When I look back over the last eight weeks, I use three things that improved my writing, specifically, a process style chart, transitional phrases, and the proper way of revising my assignment for this course that improved my writing and will benefit future classes. First, process style chart (MindEdge 5.01), profoundly improved the speed, organization, and quality of my composition. I merely transferred the process of module five, Refining the Order of Your Ideas (#2 MindEdge 5.01), to index cards; thus, allowing reorganization or removal of topics, subtopics, and details by simply moving an index card. Exerted from My Experiences With Writing , Then, I noticed that at the end she commented on what I did well, In turn, making the mistakes seem like something I should just work on. Theme of The Jungle Essay In the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair; this was first published by Fine Creative Media Inc. in 1906 (edition I read was published in 2003) it discuses life as an immigrant and how immigrants foresaw the American dream and how they tired to achieve it. There where many themes for the book. The theme that I took was most important was that life on the other side is not always better then what one has. This theme can be shown many different ways throughout the book. It is shown through the plot and through many examples of event that occurred though the book. In The Jungle a young man named Jurgis Rudkus moves to the United States landing in Chicago, with his family looking for a better life then what they had in Lithuania. They ... After some time of being in and out of jail Jurgis finally gets a job working at a hotel. The struggles and hardships that they went though as well as what other immigrants where going through at the time. I feel that people during this time where treated very unfairly and when it came to the meat packing companies I think that the cows pigs had a better life. This is because the animals where fed every day no matter what because the people that wanted to sell them needed for them to look like that had a lot of meat on them not just skin and bone. The pay that the people working in these plants made did not always pay for the rent of their one rat infested room, let alone to put food on the table.
