Essay On The American Museum Of Natural History
Museum visitors often admire objects from the past and embrace the artwork without a proper
understanding of the imagery. Viewers react to what they are looking at, comprehend the work
through their own experiences and judge it based on their personal insight of success or failure. The
appreciation of artwork at the American Museum of Natural History, located in New York City has
educated viewers with knowledgeable information on objects from thousands of different artists. The
fossil of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Roosevelt Sculpture are two objects commonly said to be the
most viewed pieces of artwork at the museum. The virtual tour presented generous information about
the history of the objects as well as knowledgeable facts about the artists and founders. The massive
dinosaur to ever exist is mounted in the exhibit hall: Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs in a stalking
position. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is arguably the most popular and media exposed dinosaur. The
predatory dinosaur is described to have short arms, two fingers, mouth full of teeth, strong thighs and
a powerful tail. The exhibit found in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two pieces of art are original and have detailed work that demonstrates the cultural and the art
history of the separate pieces. Many visitors notice the museum s contribution to two major subjects in
history. The American Museum of Natural History is located in New York City and is one of the
largest museums in the world. The museum was founded in 1869 and is still known to be one of the
most popular and favorable museums throughout the United States. The objects that are displayed
throughout the museum are displayed with many facts based on history. Art appreciation does not

Irony In The Screwtape Letters
A New Perspective Above all, do not attempt to use science (I mean, the real sciences) as a defense
against Christianity. They will positively encourage him to think about realities he can t touch and see.
Screwtape wrote this in the book by C.S Lewis called The Screwtape Letters. In The Screwtape
Letters Screwtape writes to his nephew, Wormwood, and instructs him on the proper ways to tempt
their patient . Unfortunately, in the end C.S Lewis implies that Screwtape committed cannibalism and
consumed his nephew due to the unfortunate (for them) results of Wormwood s attempted tempting. In

Carl Rogers Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach
EXISTENTIAL HUMANISTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
In the 1960 s a new momentum in counselling known as the third force spawned. This force became
known as the existential humanist approach developed by Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. Like
most psychologists of his era; Carl Rogers trained psychodynamically (Prochaska Norcross 2010).
However, he didn t stay psychodynamic for long. Rogers disagreed with many of Freud s
presumptions about therapy and more fundamentally, about people. Along with Abraham Maslow,
Rogers pioneered the humanistic movement in psychology. The humanistic approach assumes that
people arrive with an inborn tendency to grow, otherwise known as self actualisation and presumes
that if a person s environment fosters it, self actualisation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

common good . Additionally, clients who are accustomed to an indirect style of conversation may feel
awkward and troublesome; however, when thinking about adversity, death and purpose, the

The Roman Empire Essay
The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was a strong hold over the Mediterranean for many years. Being the goal of most
all world leaders, the Romans wanted land along with their power. They set their eyes on the valuable
lands around them and the Mediterranean world as well as parts of Northern Europe and Asia. The
Roman civilization and culture was much influenced by the Phonetians and Greeks. Later, the Romans
were in control of these lands and their people. Three of their prize provinces held at much value to
them were Thrace, Macedonia, Greece. These three lands were all located in the same area, providing
a throughway to Rome for trade routes from China and the Middle east. Thrace, being on the south
western coast of the Black Sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many scholars and philosophers had began to discover the longtime mysteries of the world. The
Greeks had a system of writing and were very well educated. They were eventually taken over by
King Philip V of Macedonia. He made and alliance with Greece and gave them military aid in order
for control of their government and people. King Philip dreamed to make Macedonia a world power
and intended on starting in the Mediterranean. Rome had also set these same goals for their future and
there was nothing stopping them. One of Philip s allies, Hanibel, went against him and fought him for
Macedonia. The Macedonians allied with the Carthagenians and the Romans with the Aetolian
League. By 168 B.C. Rome had Macedonia in their command. After this, the Archaen League in
Greece sought freedom after the long rule of Macedonia. They tried to fight against the mighty army
of the Romans, but this only resulted int he destruction of the city, Corinth. In 146 B.C. the Romans
had abolished all leagues in Greece, and most trade was stopped in the big port cities. Rome would be
over this land for sixty years to come. Meanwhile, the Romans realized the value of such things like
gold. They soon found out that deposits of gold and other minerals were in the uncultivated land of
Thrace. The people of Thrace were for the most part, barbaric, warlike, and unorganized. The Romans
did not have as many troubles obtaining this land, considering the people

General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell
In reality, some people stand out, some people do not. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone is
wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies. Not all
of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a secluded area.
General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is an excellent example. He is a
dynamic and complex antagonist that dabbles in more than an unusual game. Mr. Zaroff, the agile and
experienced hunter, is cunning, well educated yet inhumane and irrational. General Zaroff is brutal
and inhumane mainly due to his abnormal version of hunting. For him, it is less like hunting and more
like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you speak of is murder! (Page 6) as
claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So, General Zaroff kills humans for sport and
entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with no discrimination and regardless of their race;

do the things you suggest... I treat these visitors with every consideration... He justifies his acts and
tries to convince Rainsford that he is right. He makes it sound like he is not setting his victims to their
deaths and that it is all fun and games. However he puts it, Zaroff is still an evil yet ingenious mass

Cornell Convocation Address Essay
Members of Cornell s Class of 2016 have responded with enthusiasm to the Cornell Convocation
Committee s announcement that actor and director James Franco will deliver its convocation address.
Franco s illustrious and varied career in Hollywood, complemented by his noteworthy achievements
in academia, has won him approval from some members of the senior class.
We know he can be hilarious, we know he can be serious, we know he s brilliant and a very talented
writer; I can t wait to see how all of these different things will be reflected in his speech said Grace
Hurley 16.
John Salvagno 16 added that Franco brings a lot to the table with respect to his creativity and life

Last year, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords M.R.P. 96 delivered the convocation address to the
Class of 2015, and Sen. Cory Booker (D N.J.), then Mayor of Newark, delivered it to the Class of
2013.
However, this year s departure from political convocation speakers appears insignificant to the Class
of 2016. Indeed, Salvagno, who witnessed Sen. Booker s 2013 speech, reminds that Sen. Booker
hardly talked politics and instead discussed his upbringing and the life experiences he found most
memorable. For Salvagno, a good convocation speaker should have a story to tell, and Franco s
creativity and life experiences satisfy this criterion.
For Hurley, the speaker s relevance to the senior class is more important than his or her career field.
When it comes to celebrating such a milestone in our lives, many of us were just hoping for a
convocation speaker who could really relate specifically to our generation. ... As Hurley approvingly
notes, Franco s many degrees reflect a commitment to a well rounded education with both breadth and
depth, and this is something that we all, regardless of school or major, have learned to value

This negotiation was between the Communes of the fictitious region of Gerdanelle and the
DRAGONTM Corporation represented by their France Management team. The objective of our team,
the Communes, was to voice our concerns and work together to reach an agreement with the France
Management team regarding solutions to the impacts that DRAGON s construction had on the
development of all towns in the community. The Communes party was comprised of the following
roles: The mayors of the four cities and Director Dubois, who is the Director of the national
Department of Social Inclusion. My role as Director Dubois and a French national government
representative was to act as mediator between the Mayors and the DRAGON World team. I view our
outcome as quite successful, as we came to a cooperative agreement that appeared to meet the main
objectives of both sides and retained a solid working relationship for the future. I will use the
outcomes we reached as examples of how our team either succeeded or failed in comparison to our
negotiation plan. I will also critique my actions against established theories in order to learn about my
areas of success and weakness. As Director Dubious, I acted as mediator and leader for my team. I felt
that adopting a leadership role was necessary for multiple reasons. Firstly, our entire team agreed that
as a representative of the French national government, I had no direct connection to Gerdanelle and
thus was well positioned to objectively lead a team

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace
INTRODUCTION
It was like like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real!
Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal
Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As
the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian
Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world,
Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition
of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to
October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the
exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen
Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world
during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South
Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial
and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a
hope that the nation s economic growth

efficiencies. OARDC and ATI each had their own facility crews and land crews. We re working

Money can be saved in this area, as well as in insurance. As the transition moves forward, there are

The Song Of Songs In The Book Of The Bible
The song of songs it is a well known but not so well understood book of the Bible, it s 8 chapters of
love poetry and while there are an introduction and a conclusion, the book doesn t have any kind of
rigid literary design and that s because it is a collection of poems. They are not meant to be dissected
or taken apart. They are meant to be read as a flowing whole and simply enjoyed. The first line of the
book tells us that it is the song of songs which is a Hebrew idiom like, the holy of holies or the king of
kings it is a Hebrew way of saying, the greatest thing, this is the greatest song of all songs. We are told
in the first line that this song of songs is of Solomon, which could mean that he is the author, his name
does begin the book after all. But as I read the poems, I discover that the main voice of a woman,
called the beloved. And while there is also a male voice, it does not seem to be Solomon. Solomon is
mentioned a couple times in the poem, but he s never a speaker, and you do have to admit Solomon is
a very strange candidate as the author of this book, given the facts that he seven hundred wines. The of

Walmart s Compliance Issues
Walmart Compliance Issues Introduction Walmart is now a trans national corporation. All such
corporations have major problems in the labor front. The reasons are various. Firstly Wal Mart s motto
is to give quality goods at very cheap prices. All its operations are therefore designed to that end.
Walmart has suppliers who offer competitive prices. Since the company has to serve various parts of
the globe, they have the policy of sticking to the most reasonable prices. Thus the awareness of cost,
customers, and need for investing in continuous improvement and the bifurcation of the various retail
units to small supplier stores as individual firms have made the company s functions seamless and cost
effective. However it cannot be sustained for long and the natural result is that the company looks out
for cheap labor and less cost of production and supply units. Thus it regards the labor at the overseas
units as lesser and tries to push costs down. Thus it can be seen that in controlling cost and being
conscious of costs the company has all along made the labor at the receiving end. (Christopherson;
Lillie, 2005) In a research on major multinational retail firms, like IKEA and Wal Mart, the fact is
noted that there is a new era of labor standards. The global labor concerns are coming to the fore and
the rights of labor all over the globe are being enforced by the nations, and secondly the multinationals
find it better to enforce their voluntary codes rather than through

Explain Why There Is A Renewable Energy Source Compared To...
Solar Energy/Power
1. Describe solar power. Explain in detail how the energy source is used to generate electricity
Solar energy is a type of energy that is used in many households all around the world it is a renewable
resource meaning once you use it you can replace it. It is a great energy source that is going to rule
over coal and oil when we run out of fossil fuels. Electricity received from the panels is light energy
that has been converted.
The steps of how solar panels work are explained below:
1. The photons from the sun is absorbed by the solar panel
2. The silicon and conductors in the solar panel converts the light energy into a current of electricity
called Direct Current, which flows through to your inverter
3. The Inverter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spare electricity that wasn t used is credited to the grid
5. If more electricity is needed then your solar panels produce, electricity is taken from the grid to
power your house
2. What is a renewable energy source compared to a non renewable energy source?
A renewable energy source is a source of energy that can be renewed or replaced like solar or wind
energy, these are examples of renewable energy sources because they can be replaced. Solar energy,
the sun will never run out (until billions of years later) and wind energy is renewable because we can t
run out of wind. Now, non renewable energy. Coal, oil, gas these are all examples of non renewable
energy sources. They are non renewable energy sources because once you use it, you cannot replace it.
So renewable energy is energy that can be replaced and non renewable energy is energy that cannot be
replaced.
Is solar power a renewable or non renewable resource? Explain
Solar power is a renewable energy source because humans are not using any of the earth s resources
and because the sun will never run out or be extinguished. Each day you will generate electricity from
the sun
3. Advantages of Solar Power
Solar energy does not cause pollution, whereas oil, coal etc. does cause

Becoming a Wildlife Biologist: A Guide to Attaining the Expert Level Everyone wants to be an expert
at something. Doesn t it sound fun to analyze animals behaviors, mannerisms, and watch them in their

viewpoints on how to achieve success in the field of wildlife biology. First of all, a wildlife biologist

Problem solving skills and the collaboration of ideas allow a wildlife biologist to view the data and
create a common solution that will help all or most of the involved species. These scientists must also
be patient and wait for data to support or not support a potential theory. Justin Brashares is a good
example of problem solving and meticulously looking at the data. In 1998, Brashares went to Africa to
study antelope behavior only to find nearly no antelope (Nijhuis, 2014). Just as the Ghanaian farmers
and the data told him, as fish harvesting became less successful, hunters harvested more antelope and
other species, which in turn resulted in more baboons (because of nearly no predation), and children
staying home from school to protect their family farms from the baboons (Nijhuis, 2014). Also, the
decreasing fish industry was resulting in a higher rate of child slavery (Nijhuis, 2014). These data
findings explained the decline in antelope and how this related to the bigger problem. He had to
thoroughly look at the data to find the true cause in the wildlife decline and try to solve the problem in
a way that benefited all areas of this issue. Wildlife Biologists have to problem solve and collaborate
ideas to find the true cause of a problem and find a realistic

The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle
While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing
ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but
somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the
ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored
underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of
time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no
reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden.
Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but
would have been able to evacuate their ship if it was slowly sinking. Methane ... Show more content

The Sargasso Sea is seven hundred miles wide by two thousand miles long. The Bermuda Triangle is
on the western edge of the Sargasso Sea. The water is covered in dense seaweed which forms a thick
mat on the surface, known as Sargassum (Rudolph pg. 9). Christopher Columbus thought he had
reached land when he reached the Sargasso Sea (Bhattacharya). It is bound by ocean currents on all
sides, which separates it from the surrounding Atlantic. Trash and other objects are pulled into the sea
by swirling currents. The thick mat of seaweed and trash could bring a ship to a halt when the winds
are low. Some ships have been found floating in the seaweed with no passengers. One ship, Fannia E.
Wolston, floated for five years covering 7,025 miles. Spanish sailors often found themselves stranded
for weeks and had to jettison their war horses to conserve water, which was why an area of the
Sargasso Sea is called the Horse Latitudes . However, there was no direct correlation to missing

Framing Effect In Frankenstein
Framing effect is the concept in psychology that the way information is presented influences how the
audience feels about the information and can affect the judgments the audience makes about the
information (July 2011. Web. 17 May 2016. .) First we have Walton talking to his sister. Then we have
Victor telling Walton the story. In middle of the story we have the monster telling his part of the story
to Victor, and then Victor telling the monster s story to Walton. Discussing the framing and how it
contributes to the ghost story contributes to the theme that Mary Shelley was going for in the novel.
To begin with, the three main characters that are involved with the framing of the story are Victor
Frankenstein, Robert Walton, and The Monster. Victor was the creator of the monster. He tried playing
God,but it backfired. Throughout the framing he speaks of his story to Walton, making you visualize
as if you were there. I do not know that the relation of my disasters will be useful to you; yet, when I

The Cost Of A Gallon Of Gas Prices
In January 2016, the cost of a gallon of gas dropped below two dollars, and consumers were rejoicing.
Driving that car with twelve miles to the gallon car wasn t so bad. Going to the grocery store was a
little cheaper because of the transportation costs of goods. Americans could afford a like extra and
never wonder about why the gas dropped. We were still hurting from three dollars or more for a
gallon. Companies in the United States started drilling for oil on American soil in larger quantities
than before two years earlier in 2014. Jobs in the industry were aplenty. Young adults straight out of
high school could go into training for a year and come out making six figures by they were twenty
five. The amount of oil produced was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oil towns started dying when the restaurants and stores have no more customers, because there was no
money. This could start a domino effect and cause an economic meltdown in states like Texas, New
Mexico, and North Dakota (Egan). This event was caused by the U.S. s dependence on imported
foreign oil, because when the U.S. imports more than half of the oil it uses on a daily basis, someone
else has the control over the economy. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in
1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply
as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre).
President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce
enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. Then in 1975, President
Gerald Ford had a similar plan with a deadline of 1985, and this was the cycle that lasted eight
presidents so far. The deadline has now been moved up to 2025, but now, the U.S. is in a hole more
than ever before. In the 1970s, imports only accounted for about 30% of all oil consumed. In 2010,
imports account for 60% to 70% of all oil consumed. This problem has accelerated almost to the point
of no return (Gottesdiener). The idea of energy independence is that the U.S. would not import any oil
or gas from outside counties and produce all energy needs inside the U.S.

The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathalia Planas
Dr. Williams
EL3600
7, November 2016 The Scarlett Letter defines Romanticism. During the 1800 s America was in a
identity crisis, the need for literary independence weighed heavily on the culture. There was no set
genre that defined America and set them aside from other literatures. Thus resulting in the
Romanticism literary movement for their desire of a literature that was all American. The Scarlett
Letter written by Nathaniel Hawthorne who during the 19th century was one of the most famous
Romantic writers of his time. The Scarlett Letter defines the elements of Romanticism and best
represents this time period. Hawthorne emphasized on human emotions that define your inner true
self, not by the morality of social standards. In the novel, Hawthorne use of beauty and meaning
behind the unspoiled nature are used to understand the greater path to spirituality. Throughout the
novel, Hester goes from being the character most hated and ridiculed by the town people to a character
looked as a symbol of strength. Hester transition empowers the validity of individualism and embodies
the worth of individual freedom. Hawthorne opens the novel with an in depth description of the Prison
door, but puts more of a focus on the description of the rose bush. The prison described as dark and
gloomy jail cell with no life in it, except the rose bush that continues to flourish. The color of the rose
ties together with the color of the scarlett letter

There has been no talk about habitat preservation or restoration but there are various laws and policies
in many Southeast Asian countries protecting the white winged wood duck. There have not been many
attempts to release the white winged wood duck from the captive breeding programs back into the
wild. The current plans to save the organism are just to hope that the laws in place will protect the
ducks, but that is not working well so far. There have been many materials talking about protecting
endangered species, such as the Cairina scutulata, distributed in countries like Laos and Cambodia.
Some other nearby countries like India have sanctuaries for these ducks. Some of the things that have
been suggested that could save the organism are things like enforcing the hunting laws, actually
monitoring the Cairina scutulata population, protection of swamp forests, and campaigning against oil
and pesticide pollution. It is assumed that actually following through on the suggested ideas will
drastically increase the Cairina scutulata population because they will be able to grow in an ideal

The Impact Of Volcanic Eruptions On The Earth s Climate...
When examining the influence and impacts of volcanic eruptions upon the earth s climate system we
have to consider occurrences both in the present and in the past. It has been noted by McGuire et al.
that Volcanic activity and environmental change have been linked during recent times and in the
geological record. (2002:88) With thousands of volcanic events having transpired since the Archean,
there is an abundance of evidence to support the theory that volcanoes have impacted our climate for
over 2.5 Billion years. In particular, I will be looking at examples from the Permian era, where large
basaltic flood eruptions have been associated with mass extinctions and the most voluminous
explosive super eruptions have been held responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global
cooling known as volcanic winters (Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will
also be looking at instances from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts
through various scientific means (such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and
are able to explore the control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they
have influenced it today. It is also necessary to explore equally the spatial and temporal scales of
volcanic eruptions and their controlling factors, to determine their effects upon the earth s climate and
how they can affect it.
One of the largest volcanic eruptions to occur in our history is the Indonesian

Descriptive Essay On The Sea World
A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself
strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom,
my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there
multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her
being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that
dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge
mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding
these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying:
No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t
want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno,
sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she
bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at
my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once
in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag
will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on the legendary snack food
in what seems like decades.

Dante’s Inferno
Dante s Inferno The Evolving Relationship between Dante the Pilgrim and Virgil the Guide
In Dante s Inferno, the relationship between Dante the Pilgrim and Virgil the Guide is an ever
evolving one. By analyzing the transformation of this relationship as the two sojourn through the
circles of hell, one is able to learn more about the mindset of Dante the Poet. At the outset, Dante is
clearly subservient to Virgil, whom he holds in high esteem for his literary genius. However, as the
work progresses, Virgil facilitates Dante s spiritual enlightenment, so that by the end, Dante has
ascended to Virgil s spiritual level and has in many respects surpassed him. In Dante s journey with
respect to Virgil, one can see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see Dante s first step is to acknowledge his inferiority to Virgil; it is to him he owes his modest
authorial prowess. This sentiment is understandable indeed. It is only natural for Dante to have
nothing but the utmost respect for the great poet who, having preceded him by thirteen hundred years,
merits such treatment.
However, when we couple Dante s intense reverence for Virgil with his plea for his help, our
understanding of the strength of his faith is enhanced. The Pilgrim invokes Virgil thusly: O famous
sage, [help me] to stand against [that beast], / for she has made my blood and pulses shudder (I.89 90).
Perhaps one can account for this behavior by noting that Dante, being heavily disoriented, upon seeing
Virgil, whom he initially perceives as being a mere apparition, feels in the Guide something
supernatural which compels him to seek his aid in defeating the she wolf. However, Dante s remarks
and behavior fall perilously close to blasphemy. Instead of unduly flattering Virgil (who by his own
admission, was a man , and a pagan at that) and asking his assistance, the ideal Christian monotheist
would seek refuge in God. The concept of placing one s complete trust in God, manifest in such
exemplars of faith as Sir Gawain of Camelot and Boccaccio s Griselda, is an essential component of
Christianity. Indeed, Gawain s fall

The Origins Of Creation Myths
Myth is often falsely misunderstood as fake; however, when using myth in a religious studies
atmosphere, it takes on a new meaning. Myths are stories created by a group of people which believe
the stories are true. These stories are understood to be narratives concerning sacred reality and its
relationship to humanity (Cunningham and Kelsay 59). There are many types of myths which groups
of people create; for example, how humans, religious figures, and Earth came to be. Many myths
focus on creation of someone or something because humans have many questions about how things on
Earth originated. We did not know a lot about origination at first when the human population
developed because we were not around for Earth s creation. Creation myth ... Show more content on

Just a single person creating and believing in these stories is not enough to make them a myth. A myth
must be believed in as one hundred percent true by many people. This group of people use this myth
to explain the relationship between themselves and the sacred. For example, God said, Let us make
humankind in our image, according to our likeness (Genesis 1: 26). This shows how people relate
themselves to God and it puts things into perspective. God created humankind to be capable of things
as great as the things he does, within limitation of course. It demonstrates a sense of power and good
intentions which shape the reality of those who believe in the myth. It is worth noting that a myth,
rather than being a harmless story, is a powerful vehicle for life and action (Cunningham and Kelsay
61). Myths help these groups of people live their lives a certain way and take certain actions. For
example, Genesis helps people who believe its story act with great intentions and concern for all living
things because this is what God wanted for humankind. He wanted people to care about other living
things and make good choices in life as a sign of gratitude for their very existence and capability to
make these

Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est
A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers,
however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further
understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this
poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to
warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country.
When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the
government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge,
something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new
threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the
soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man
struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After
watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the
images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and
challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his
face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). Nationalism plays a huge role

Genesis Vs. Enuma Elish
Compare and Contrast: Genesis and Enuma Elish Genesis and Enuma Elish (also known as the Epic
of Creation,) are often compared by scholars due to their being a shared account between the two.
Even though both stories have their similarities, they are indeed very different in almost every way.
Genesis has one creator, God, while Enuma Elish has two. Genesis describes God creating sea and
land creatures on the fifth day, opposed to Enuma Elish where there are no accounts of this in the
Babylonian records.
In the chapter of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, God alone, created the Heavens and the Earth from
nothing, he created humans from dust and the sun, moon, stars, and the seasons. In the Enuma Elish,
Apsu and Tiamat are the beginning of all creation,

For better or worse, zoos are how most people come to know big or exotic animals. Few will ever see
wild penguins sledding downhill to sea on their bellies, giant pandas holding bamboo lollipops or tree

ways. For example, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals better known as the P.E.T.A
organization is completely against zoos and believe they should be witnessed in the wild, not in
captivity. But, The World Associations of Zoos and Aquariums believes that animals need zoos and
aquariums to help with the problem of extinction but should survive on their own in their compound

Examples Of Push And Pull Factors On Mexican Immigration
Mexico is an extremely important country, as far as immigration is concerned, in the world. It has a
large amount of emigrants that leave their country each year. Many of these emigrants go to the United
States. This has caused the Mexican immigration issue to become very popular. After research, we
have found out a lot about the country of Mexico. One fact about Mexico is that it has multiple push
and pull factors. A few examples of some of Mexico s pull factors are because of a beautiful
landscape, lower costs of living, and affordable properties. These are all major factors in the moving
process. Unfortunately, Mexico has a large amount of push factors as well. Some of these push factors
are urbanization in the West, violence, and migration policies. It is clear by the amount of people
migrating from, and to, Mexico that these are big factors in migration. According to Fox News, The
Pew Research Center found that slightly more than 1 million Mexicans and their families, including
American born children, left the U.S. for Mexico from 2009 to 2014 (Fox News). This shows how
much pull factors are involved in Mexican immigration. Push and pull factors are a huge part of one of
the world s biggest immigration issues, but their are other factors as well.
One of those factors in Mexican immigration is the landscape of the country. According to
oddizzi.com, Mexico has rainforests and beautiful beaches along its Caribbean and Pacific coastlines,
deserts, lowlands, high

How Do Substances Affect The Freezing Point Of Ice
Danis Heto Have you ever wondered that if you put ice into a drink, the substances in the drink will
make it melt faster. This is exactly the case, I will be seeing how the substances that we use in our
everyday life affect the melting point of ice. I will be looking at what causes the freezing point
depression, how substances affect the freezing point of ice, and the purposes of changing the freezing
point of ice. The melting point of ice is the given temperature that a substance will melt, and by
lowering this it makes the ice melt quicker. By learning this you can understand which substance to
use to melt the ice off of your sidewalk, or even when making homemade ice cream. Freezing point

The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues
The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues
========================================
Overview
The Seven Deadly Sins , also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins , are a classification of
vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers
concerning (immoral) fallen man s tendency to sin. The Roman Catholic Church divided sin into two
principal categories: venial , which are relatively minor, and could be forgiven through any sacrament
of the Church, and the more severe capital or mortal sins, which, when committed, destroyed the life
of grace, and created the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of
confession, or otherwise forgiven ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Substance abuse or binge drinking can be seen as examples of gluttony therefore. The penitents in the
Purgatorio were forced to stand between two trees, unable to reach or eat the fruit hanging from either,
and were thus described as having a starved appearance.
== Greed (Latin: avaritia)
Synonyms: Greed (treachery, covetousness)
Greed is, like Lust and Gluttony, a sin of excess. However, Greed (as seen by the Church) applied to
the acquisition of wealth in particular. Thomas Aquinas wrote that Greed was a sin against God, just as
all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things. In Dante s
Purgatory, the penitents were bound and laid face down on the ground for having concentrated too
much on earthly thoughts. Avarice is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of
sinful behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain,
for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery,
especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be
inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include Simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within
the actual confines of a church.
== Sloth (Latin: acedia)
Synonyms: Sloth (laziness, sadness, apathy)
More than other sins, the definition of Sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion
among The Seven Deadly Sins. It

  • 3. Essay On The American Museum Of Natural History Museum visitors often admire objects from the past and embrace the artwork without a proper understanding of the imagery. Viewers react to what they are looking at, comprehend the work through their own experiences and judge it based on their personal insight of success or failure. The appreciation of artwork at the American Museum of Natural History, located in New York City has educated viewers with knowledgeable information on objects from thousands of different artists. The fossil of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Roosevelt Sculpture are two objects commonly said to be the most viewed pieces of artwork at the museum. The virtual tour presented generous information about the history of the objects as well as knowledgeable facts about the artists and founders. The massive dinosaur to ever exist is mounted in the exhibit hall: Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs in a stalking position. The Tyrannosaurus Rex is arguably the most popular and media exposed dinosaur. • 4. Irony In The Screwtape Letters A New Perspective Above all, do not attempt to use science (I mean, the real sciences) as a defense against Christianity. They will positively encourage him to think about realities he can t touch and see. Screwtape wrote this in the book by C.S Lewis called The Screwtape Letters. In The Screwtape Letters Screwtape writes to his nephew, Wormwood, and instructs him on the proper ways to tempt their patient . Unfortunately, in the end C.S Lewis implies that Screwtape committed cannibalism and consumed his nephew due to the unfortunate (for them) results of Wormwood s attempted tempting. In this satirical book, C.S Lewis shows how the devil attempts to tempt us to consume us in Hell. C.S Lewis uses irony and sarcasm to warn us of the dangers ... • 5. Carl Rogers Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach EXISTENTIAL HUMANISTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY In the 1960 s a new momentum in counselling known as the third force spawned. This force became known as the existential humanist approach developed by Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. Like most psychologists of his era; Carl Rogers trained psychodynamically (Prochaska Norcross 2010). However, he didn t stay psychodynamic for long. Rogers disagreed with many of Freud s presumptions about therapy and more fundamentally, about people. Along with Abraham Maslow, Rogers pioneered the humanistic movement in psychology. • 6. The Roman Empire Essay The Roman Empire The Roman Empire was a strong hold over the Mediterranean for many years. Being the goal of most all world leaders, the Romans wanted land along with their power. They set their eyes on the valuable lands around them and the Mediterranean world as well as parts of Northern Europe and Asia. The Roman civilization and culture was much influenced by the Phonetians and Greeks. Later, the Romans were in control of these lands and their people. Three of their prize provinces held at much value to them were Thrace, Macedonia, Greece. These three lands were all located in the same area, providing a throughway to Rome for trade routes from China and the Middle east. Thrace, being on the south western coast of the Black Sea ... They were eventually taken over by King Philip V of Macedonia. He made and alliance with Greece and gave them military aid in order for control of their government and people. King Philip dreamed to make Macedonia a world power and intended on starting in the Mediterranean. Rome had also set these same goals for their future and there was nothing stopping them. One of Philip s allies, Hanibel, went against him and fought him for Macedonia. The Macedonians allied with the Carthagenians and the Romans with the Aetolian League. By 168 B.C. Rome had Macedonia in their command. After this, the Archaen League in Greece sought freedom after the long rule of Macedonia. They tried to fight against the mighty army of the Romans, but this only resulted int he destruction of the city, Corinth. In 146 B.C. the Romans had abolished all leagues in Greece, and most trade was stopped in the big port cities. Rome would be over this land for sixty years to come. Meanwhile, the Romans realized the value of such things like gold. They soon found out that deposits of gold and other minerals were in the uncultivated land of Thrace. • 7. General Zaroff In The Most Dangerous Game By Richard Connell In reality, some people stand out, some people do not. Whether or not they are noticed, everyone is wrapped in many different layers of personalities. People have their own secrets and hobbies. Not all of their personal activities are socially accepted and most people have their pastime in a secluded area. General Zaroff from The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell is an excellent example. He is a dynamic and complex antagonist that dabbles in more than an unusual game. Mr. Zaroff, the agile and experienced hunter, is cunning, well educated yet inhumane and irrational. General Zaroff is brutal and inhumane mainly due to his abnormal version of hunting. For him, it is less like hunting and more like a tropical murder spree; Hunting? Great Guns, Zaroff, what you speak of is murder! (Page 6) as claimed by Rainsford when Zaroff explained his game . So, General Zaroff kills humans for sport and entertainment. He is willing to slaughter everyone with no discrimination and regardless of their race; ...I hunt the scum of the Earth: sailors from tramp ships lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels... • 9. Cornell Convocation Address Essay Members of Cornell s Class of 2016 have responded with enthusiasm to the Cornell Convocation Committee s announcement that actor and director James Franco will deliver its convocation address. Franco s illustrious and varied career in Hollywood, complemented by his noteworthy achievements in academia, has won him approval from some members of the senior class. We know he can be hilarious, we know he can be serious, we know he s brilliant and a very talented writer; I can t wait to see how all of these different things will be reflected in his speech said Grace Hurley 16. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Last year, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords M.R.P. 96 delivered the convocation address to the Class of 2015, and Sen. Cory Booker (D N.J.), then Mayor of Newark, delivered it to the Class of 2013. However, this year s departure from political convocation speakers appears insignificant to the Class of 2016. Indeed, Salvagno, who witnessed Sen. Booker s 2013 speech, reminds that Sen. Booker hardly talked politics and instead discussed his upbringing and the life experiences he found most memorable. For Salvagno, a good convocation speaker should have a story to tell, and Franco s creativity and life experiences satisfy this criterion. For Hurley, the speaker s relevance to the senior class is more important than his or her career field. When it comes to celebrating such a milestone in our lives, many of us were just hoping for a convocation speaker who could really relate specifically to our generation. ... This negotiation was between the Communes of the fictitious region of Gerdanelle and the DRAGONTM Corporation represented by their France Management team. The objective of our team, the Communes, was to voice our concerns and work together to reach an agreement with the France Management team regarding solutions to the impacts that DRAGON s construction had on the development of all towns in the community. The Communes party was comprised of the following roles: The mayors of the four cities and Director Dubois, who is the Director of the national Department of Social Inclusion. My role as Director Dubois and a French national government representative was to act as mediator between the Mayors and the DRAGON World team. I view our outcome as quite successful, as we came to a cooperative agreement that appeared to meet the main objectives of both sides and retained a solid working relationship for the future. I will use the outcomes we reached as examples of how our team either succeeded or failed in comparison to our negotiation plan. I will also critique my actions against established theories in order to learn about my areas of success and weakness. As Director Dubious, I acted as mediator and leader for my team. I felt that adopting a leadership role was necessary for multiple reasons. • 11. Introduction Of The Crystal Palace INTRODUCTION It was like like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real! Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth ... The Song Of Songs In The Book Of The Bible The song of songs it is a well known but not so well understood book of the Bible, it s 8 chapters of love poetry and while there are an introduction and a conclusion, the book doesn t have any kind of rigid literary design and that s because it is a collection of poems. They are not meant to be dissected or taken apart. They are meant to be read as a flowing whole and simply enjoyed. The first line of the book tells us that it is the song of songs which is a Hebrew idiom like, the holy of holies or the king of kings it is a Hebrew way of saying, the greatest thing, this is the greatest song of all songs. We are told in the first line that this song of songs is of Solomon, which could mean that he is the author, his name does begin the book after all. But as I read the poems, I discover that the main voice of a woman, called the beloved. And while there is also a male voice, it does not seem to be Solomon. Solomon is mentioned a couple times in the poem, but he s never a speaker, and you do have to admit Solomon is a very strange candidate as the author of this book, given the facts that he seven hundred wines. The of Solomon likely means in the wisdom tradition of Solomon, he was known for his wisdom, his poetry, his love of learning about every part of life. • 15. Walmart s Compliance Issues Walmart Compliance Issues Introduction Walmart is now a trans national corporation. All such corporations have major problems in the labor front. The reasons are various. Firstly Wal Mart s motto is to give quality goods at very cheap prices. All its operations are therefore designed to that end. Walmart has suppliers who offer competitive prices. Since the company has to serve various parts of the globe, they have the policy of sticking to the most reasonable prices. Thus the awareness of cost, customers, and need for investing in continuous improvement and the bifurcation of the various retail units to small supplier stores as individual firms have made the company s functions seamless and cost effective. However it cannot be sustained for long and the natural result is that the company looks out for cheap labor and less cost of production and supply units. Thus it regards the labor at the overseas units as lesser and tries to push costs down. Thus it can be seen that in controlling cost and being conscious of costs the company has all along made the labor at the receiving end. (Christopherson; Lillie, 2005) In a research on major multinational retail firms, like IKEA and Wal Mart, the fact is noted that there is a new era of labor standards. The global labor concerns are coming to the fore and the rights of labor all over the globe are being enforced by the nations, and secondly the multinationals find it better to enforce their voluntary codes rather than through ... Problem solving skills and the collaboration of ideas allow a wildlife biologist to view the data and create a common solution that will help all or most of the involved species. These scientists must also be patient and wait for data to support or not support a potential theory. Justin Brashares is a good example of problem solving and meticulously looking at the data. In 1998, Brashares went to Africa to study antelope behavior only to find nearly no antelope (Nijhuis, 2014). Just as the Ghanaian farmers and the data told him, as fish harvesting became less successful, hunters harvested more antelope and other species, which in turn resulted in more baboons (because of nearly no predation), and children staying home from school to protect their family farms from the baboons (Nijhuis, 2014). Also, the decreasing fish industry was resulting in a higher rate of child slavery (Nijhuis, 2014). These data findings explained the decline in antelope and how this related to the bigger problem. He had to thoroughly look at the data to find the true cause in the wildlife decline and try to solve the problem in a way that benefited all areas of this issue. The Sargasso Se The Disappearances In The Bermuda Triangle While methane bubbles can sink an entire ship, it does not prove to be the cause for all disappearing ships and plans in the triangle. The area of largest methane gas releases was not in the Bermuda s but somewhere along the Carolinas coast. This decreases the likelihood of methane gas releases from the ocean floor. Some drilling rigs have drilled into methane hydrates (where methane gas is stored underground) and while the density of that water did decrease and the ship sunk; there was plenty of time to send a mayday call and evacuate the ship. With the methane gas theory, there would be no reason why a ship could not make a mayday call, but disappearances in the triangle are sudden. Researchers know some of the first sailors did not have the technology to send a mayday call, but would have been able to evacuate their ship if it was slowly sinking. Methane ... Trash and other objects are pulled into the sea by swirling currents. The thick mat of seaweed and trash could bring a ship to a halt when the winds are low. Some ships have been found floating in the seaweed with no passengers. One ship, Fannia E. Wolston, floated for five years covering 7,025 miles. Energy dependence is not a new problem but one that started in 1973 after the oil embargo. It was caused by the Arabian government cutting off the oil and gas supply as a protest against the U.S. support for the Israel in the war between Egypt and Syria (Myre). President Richard Nixon gave a speech claiming his plan called Project Independence could produce enough energy needed in America and stop importing oil and gas by 1980. When examining the influence and impacts of volcanic eruptions upon the earth s climate system we have to consider occurrences both in the present and in the past. It has been noted by McGuire et al. that Volcanic activity and environmental change have been linked during recent times and in the geological record. (2002:88) With thousands of volcanic events having transpired since the Archean, there is an abundance of evidence to support the theory that volcanoes have impacted our climate for over 2.5 Billion years. In particular, I will be looking at examples from the Permian era, where large basaltic flood eruptions have been associated with mass extinctions and the most voluminous explosive super eruptions have been held responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global cooling known as volcanic winters (Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will also be looking at instances from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts through various scientific means (such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and are able to explore the control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they have influenced it today. It is also necessary to explore equally the spatial and temporal scales of volcanic eruptions and their controlling factors, to determine their effects upon the earth s climate and how they can affect it. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. One of them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? At the outset, Dante is clearly subservient to Virgil, whom he holds in high esteem for his literary genius. We see Dante s first step is to acknowledge his inferiority to Virgil; it is to him he owes his modest authorial prowess. This sentiment is understandable indeed. It is only natural for Dante to have nothing but the utmost respect for the great poet who, having preceded him by thirteen hundred years, merits such treatment. However, when we couple Dante s intense reverence for Virgil with his plea for his help, our understanding of the strength of his faith is enhanced. The Pilgrim invokes Virgil thusly: O famous sage, [help me] to stand against [that beast], / for she has made my blood and pulses shudder (I.89 90). Perhaps one can account for this behavior by noting that Dante, being heavily disoriented, upon seeing Virgil, whom he initially perceives as being a mere apparition, feels in the Guide something supernatural which compels him to seek his aid in defeating the she wolf. However, Dante s remarks and behavior fall perilously close to blasphemy. Instead of unduly flattering Virgil (who by his own admission, was a man , and a pagan at that) and asking his assistance, the ideal Christian monotheist would seek refuge in God. Just a single person creating and believing in these stories is not enough to make them a myth. A myth must be believed in as one hundred percent true by many people. This group of people use this myth to explain the relationship between themselves and the sacred. For example, God said, Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness (Genesis 1: 26). This shows how people relate themselves to God and it puts things into perspective. God created humankind to be capable of things as great as the things he does, within limitation of course. It demonstrates a sense of power and good intentions which shape the reality of those who believe in the myth. It is worth noting that a myth, rather than being a harmless story, is a powerful vehicle for life and action (Cunningham and Kelsay 61). Myths help these groups of people live their lives a certain way and take certain actions. For example, Genesis helps people who believe its story act with great intentions and concern for all living things because this is what God wanted for humankind. He wanted people to care about other living things and make good choices in life as a sign of gratitude for their very existence and capability to make these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Horrors Of War In Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est A person cannot truly comprehend a situation if they have never experienced it first hand. Writers, however, can use their words to help paint a picture of said situations for those that wish to further understand them. One example of such, is Wilfred Owen s Dulce et Decorum Est. Owen wrote this poem to inform the public of the horrors of battle, specifically in World War I. He desperately tried to warn civilians of the truths of combat and why it doesn t always feel honorable to die for your country. When analyzed further, Owen is also warning his fellow citizens not to believe everything the government tells them. In the first stanza, Owen describes a regiment marching through sludge, something not unusual for soldiers at the time. In the second stanza, however, he introduces a new threat, mustard gas. The speaker exclaims: Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! (Owen L9). As most of the soldiers are putting on their gas masks, one fails to do so. The speaker is left watching the man struggle: flound ring like a man in fire or lime...guttering, choking, drowning. (Owen L12 16). After watching his fellow soldier succumb to the hellish effects of the gas, the speaker could not erase the images from his memory. In the last stanza, he chastised the people at home who romanticize war and challenged them to think about how admirable it is to watch a man die: the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil s sick of sin (Owen L19 20). Nationalism plays a huge role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Enuma Elish Compare and Contrast: Genesis and Enuma Elish Genesis and Enuma Elish (also known as the Epic of Creation,) are often compared by scholars due to their being a shared account between the two. Even though both stories have their similarities, they are indeed very different in almost every way. Genesis has one creator, God, while Enuma Elish has two. Genesis describes God creating sea and land creatures on the fifth day, opposed to Enuma Elish where there are no accounts of this in the Babylonian records. In the chapter of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible, God alone, created the Heavens and the Earth from nothing, he created humans from dust and the sun, moon, stars, and the seasons. Few will ever see wild penguins sledding downhill to sea on their bellies, giant pandas holding bamboo lollipops or tree porcupines in the Canadian Rockies (Ackerman, Diane). Different people think about zoos in different ways. For example, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals better known as the P.E.T.A organization is completely against zoos and believe they should be witnessed in the wild, not in captivity. But, The World Associations of Zoos and Aquariums believes that animals need zoos and aquariums to help with the problem of extinction but should survive on their own in their compound on their own. The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues The 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Cardinal Virtues ======================================== Overview The Seven Deadly Sins , also known as the Capital Vices or Cardinal Sins , are a classification of vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen man s tendency to sin. The Roman Catholic Church divided sin into two principal categories: venial , which are relatively minor, and could be forgiven through any sacrament of the Church, and the more severe capital or mortal sins, which, when committed, destroyed the life of grace, and created the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of confession, or otherwise forgiven ... The penitents in the Purgatorio were forced to stand between two trees, unable to reach or eat the fruit hanging from either, and were thus described as having a starved appearance. == Greed (Latin: avaritia) Synonyms: Greed (treachery, covetousness) Greed is, like Lust and Gluttony, a sin of excess. However, Greed (as seen by the Church) applied to the acquisition of wealth in particular. Thomas Aquinas wrote that Greed was a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things. In Dante s Purgatory, the penitents were bound and laid face down on the ground for having concentrated too much on earthly thoughts. Avarice is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of sinful behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason, especially for personal gain, for example through bribery. Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include Simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church. == Sloth (Latin: acedia) Synonyms: Sloth (laziness, sadness, apathy) More than other sins, the definition of Sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion among The Seven Deadly Sins.
