Comparing Poems 100 I Believe And Ars Poetry
Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. Ars Poetica #100: I Believe by
Elizabeth Alexander and Poetry by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author
feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry
can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose.
There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful. One way is when
Alexander says, Poetry (here I hear myself loudest) is the human voice... This line is saying poetry
allows a person to express themselves. As she speaks at her loudest, she puts emphasis on the human
voice, making it authoritative. Another way Alexander expresses the purpose of poetry is when she
says, Poetry is what you find in the dirt in the corner, over hear on the bus, God in the details... This
line shows how poetry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander positions her poem in stanzas, while Moore s is a free verse (hers does not follow a regular
pattern of rhyme.) Alexander s whole poem is symbolic. She compares poetry to many things.
Alexander defines poetry when she says, Poetry, I tell my students, is idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic
meaning distinctive, special, or individualistic. Her repetition of using poetry is in each stanza
explains what poetry is and is not. Moore, on the other hand, uses more imagery. She uses some
metaphors and similes. Moore is also very detailed in her description of what poetry is and how
valuable good poetry can be. A simile Moore uses is, The immovable critic twitching his skin like a
horse that feels a flea... Any person will instantly think of a horse, twitching with fleas. Some
metaphors she uses are imaginary gardens with real toads in them. With this metaphor, Moore insists
that true poetry should include both imagination and reality. A line that includes much imagery is
when Moore says, The

Sonrisas Pat Mora
The poem Sonrisas by Pat Mora is about someone torn between two lifestyles. Mora uses contrasting
diction between the two stanzas to show her feelings towards both rooms; Mora also uses sibilance to
further portray the differing nature of those two rooms. Mora s diction and use of sibilance in the first
stanza create a tense atmosphere in the room. In lines 6 to 8, the speaker says, careful woman in crisp
beige/suits, quick beige smiles/that seldom sneak into their eyes . Words like quick , seldom , and
sneak in combination lets the reader know that the woman with the beige smiles do not have a lasting
happiness, and their smiles are not genuine due to the quickness and rareness of the action. In
addition, these words have a negative connotation, because their association with rushed, rare and
creepy actions, so one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When taking all these elements into account, the speaker builds up a tense atmosphere with the
sibilance and negative diction combination, and the professionalism and bitterness of the black coffee.
However, in the second stanza, the atmosphere changes from tense to happy and natural. Mora states
that the second room is filled with señoras/ in faded dresses stir sweet/milk coffee, laughter
whirls/with steam from fresh tamales (Lines 10 13). Immediately, the reader can sense a difference
between the señoras and the beige woman from the language usage; words like sweet , laughter , and
whirls are more playful and have a positive connotation because they represent pleasant taste, joy, and
movement. The speaker feels more connected to the señoras because of the positive diction, but with
the use of sibilance in the words señoras , sweet , and steam a calming and natural atmosphere can be
felt by both the reader and the speaker because of the s

IPv6 migration, transformation, and configuration
By Punit Parwani

2016
Abstract
A Global transition to Internet Protocol version 6 is initiated. The government and organizations
understand the benefits of this new protocol and are making change plans. The Information
technology industry is undergoing a massive transformation. This research paper would outline the
migration, transformation, and configuration of Internet Protocol version 6 from Internet Protocol
version 4. Currently; we are close to exhausting a lot of our options regarding current Internet Protocol

The networks combine IP with a higher level protocol called Transmission Control Protocol. This
protocol establishes an implicit connection between a destination and the origin. Internet Protocol can
be correlated to a postal system network. It grants an entity to address a parcel, packet or mail and
drop it in the postal system. There is no direct link between the consignor and the recipient.
TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the primary network communication, language
since the mid 1990s. It can be passed down as a communications protocol in a private network. The
TCP/IP is a two layered protocol. The Transmission Control Protocol is the higher layer which
administers the assembling of a message or file into smaller packets. These packets are transmitted
over the Internet. The packets are amassed and reassembled into the primary message after being
received by the TCP layer. The Internet Protocol is the lower layer. This layer monitors the address
part of each packet so that it gets to the right destination. The TCP/IP establishes an intermediary
between two hosts so that they can send messages back and forth for a period of time.
Internet Protocol Versions
Tout de suite there are two versions of Internet Protocols on the web. The predominant version is IPv4
and a leading edge advanced version which is called IPv6. The IPv6 is an evolutionary enhancement

The Whole Life In Prison Book Report
This book is about a man who changed his whole life in prison. The author s purpose for this book is
to inform. He wrote this book for a young adult audience. I know this because I found it in the young
adults section in the library, also because some events in this story aren t meant for children to be
reading. For example you wouldn t read a book about someone selling, transporting, and smoking
hash, which is a drug to a child. I chose this book because I needed a short nonfiction book to read, so
that I could complete this book report. Chapter one, section one, is one of my favorites. It shows how
his dad is warning him about taking the criminal path in life. He and his dad used to ride around while
his dad pointed out criminals and told

Medical technology has increased the use of outpatient surgery to treat a variety of illnesses and

Roller Coasters Essay
Roller Coaster
For many people, there is only one reason to go to an amusement park: the roller coaster. Some people
call it the scream machine, with good reason. The history of this ride reflects a constant search for
greater and more death defying thrills.
How does a roller coaster work?
What you may not realize as you re cruising down the track at 60 miles an hour is that the coaster has
no engine. The car is pulled to the top of the first hill at the beginning of the ride, but after that the

The House Home Exhibit
Do you remember playing with dollhouses as a child, or how about building homes out of Lego s or
Lincoln Logs? The concept of home is something we experience from a very young age, after all, as
the new long term exhibit House Home at the National Building Museum points out, We all live
somewhere. The House Home exhibit explores a subject so wide and so fundamental to the American
way of life that it resonates with visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
A visit to any of the Washington, D.C. based National Building Museum s exhibit starts with taking in
the grandeur of the museum itself. Located in the historic Pension Building, a towering Italian Revival
structure, the museum opened in 1980, with a mission to to advance the quality of the built
environment by educating people about its impact on their lives (About the National Building
Museum, 2016). The museum s great hall features 75 foot high corinthian columns, as well as a 1,200
foot long, 3 foot high frieze designed by Caspar Buberl in 1899. The very structure of this museum is
an exhibit in and of itself, and it sets the stage for discussions about the evolution of American
architecture, investigations into why we live where we do, and explorations of work and play.
House Home is the National Building Museum s newest long term exhibit, which opened in 2012 to
positive public and critical reception. The Washington Post summary and review of the exhibition

Regulation of Violent Video Games
Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form of
Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video games.
It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge that few
children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video games, dating back
to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as killing the bad person, driving
dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology including software, modern
computers and other game related technology, the way in which such violence and other extreme
sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic. Further, as more and more children are
getting exposed violent games, there is a growing awareness among both parents and the government
for regulation of such games. Also, apart from the fact that people were, in general, becoming more
aware and conscious, numerous studies were also being done to find connection between violent video
games and the rate at which violence and crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of
a positive correlation. Incidents such as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened
concerns of a potential connection between video games and violent actions. Many independent social
workers including politicians were continuously trying to evoke public response towards sale of such
violent video

Themistocles Oedipus In The Persian Expedition
In The Persian Expedition, Xenophon follows the fate of 10,000 Greek mercenaries as they make their
long and arduous journey from deep in Persian territory back to Greece, their homeland. In addition to
details of the trip, Xenophon discusses some personal qualities of Cyrus and the leaders of his
mercenary s. Themistocles was an Athenian politician from a slightly earlier period who rose to
prominence using his cunning, cleverness, persuasion, and deception. Presented favorably by Plutarch
in The Rise and Fall of Athens: Nine Greek Lives, and critically in The Histories of Herodotus,
Themistocles is not discussed by Xenophon. Although he demonstrated the intelligence that Xenophon

Xenophon s main reason for disliking Menon was his deceitfulness and dishonest nature: The shortest
road to the achievement of his desires lay he thought through false swearing, lying, and cheating
(Xenophon, 2.6). Xenophon also valued the honesty of Cyrus. He would tell no lies to anyone
(Xenophon, 1.9). Themistocles was also deceitful and willing to do whatever was necessary to
survive, as illustrated by his clever trick in Salamis: so he cast around for a counter stroke and hit
upon his celebrated trick Siccinus (Plutarch ,3.12). Even when Themistocles did not lie outright, he
valued his manipulative powers: Themistocles told them that he had brought two gods, persuasion and
compulsion (Plutarch, 3.21). He used his cunning to get his way, threatening to lie to get the sailors in
trouble if they crossed him: but partly by entreaties and partly by the threat that he would denounce
them to the Athenians and make it appear that they had known all along who he was, but had taken
him on board in the first instance for a bribe, he forced them to stand out to sea and reach the coast of
Asia (Plutarch, 3.25). Themistocles, though brilliant and clever, resorted to lying and manipulation
when honesty was not productive enough, in contrast to the truth telling Cyrus, whom Xenophon

Racism Articles On Racism
A case of a solar eclipse metaphor gone terribly, terribly wrong has become a conservative talking
point about the left and racism.
Last week, the Atlantic reprinted a Democracy: A Journal of Ideas article, which attempted to make a
hard to parse point about race in America in the context of the solar eclipse. The thesis of the article
was that the regions experiencing the total eclipse are mostly inhabited by white people and also
America has a history of racism.
It was quickly picked up by far right pundits and conservative media as the left s attempt to make
everything about racism. Here s Infowars Alex Jones tweeting about it:
The left wants you to think #SolarEclipse2017 is racist. RT if you disagree! https://t.co/wd2Hq8m8ld

The Daily Caller bashed the article with the headline The Eclipse Is Racist Because It Fails to Affect

The article comes on the heels of a terror attack at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville,
Virginia, which left one anti racism demonstrator dead. President Donald Trump equivocated his
condemnation of neo Nazis after the incident, prompting backlash from both Republicans and
Democrats. But

Wieel Wiesel Reflection
In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, I looked at my house in which I had spent
years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be
like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty. (Wiesel 15) This passage really caught my
attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he s saying that, as
hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder and harder
to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting because it
gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were leaving
everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them.
Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage, The race to death had begun. (Wiesel 10) as an important
style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from Sighet. I
think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the text because,
it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the use of
personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they all have.
While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, He was poor and lived in utter penury.
(Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this

NCAA protests that schools or sport teams with a nickname or logo considered racially or ethnically

An Overview of Reggae Music Essay
Reggae is a genre of music that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. It is known for the heavy
and strong emphasis on the bass within the background beat. Reggae was perceived as a kind of music
used to express feelings about the social, political, and economic hardships in Jamaica during the late
1960s and early 1970s. It was performed by musicians from black ghettos who used unhurried beats to
make a style of music of their own. Reggae became an important part of the lifestyle of many
Caribbean islanders; expressing a sense of pride of their Caribbean culture. Reggae was developed

From the shantytowns of Kingston, Jamaica, to the cobblestones streets of Great Britain, reggae music
was a powerful and liberating voice for the poor and oppressed. In the last thirty years, reggae stars
Bob Marley, Burning Spear, and Alpha Blondy have sung redemption songs messages of human rights
and universal love in a Babylonian world of civil unrest, political instability, and economic collapse
(Bays, King, and Foster, 2002, p. XI). Bob Marley was the most famous reggae artist to bring
popularity upon the music; selling over 20 million records worldwide. His songs such as One Love

persona for unity and peace among people throughout the world was an inspiration for Jamaicans.
Most blacks in Jamaica during the 1960s suffered from economic hardships and racial discrimination.
This in turn marked the beginning of a religious movement called Rastafarinism where reggae music
was an element that distinguished Rastafarians from the rest of society. According to Chang and Chen,
British colonial authorities and the local establishment viewed Rastafarians; forthright espousal of
black unity and pride, and their unconventional appearance and customs, as threats to the existing
social order. (Chang, Chen, 1998. p.26) Reggae music allowed blacks to have pride of their culture

Evolution Of Jazz And Blues. The Music Styles Of Jazz And
Evolution of Jazz and Blues The music styles of Jazz and Blues are both considered to be great
American musical art forms (Covach, 2015). These styles are also two very important roots of music
and have evolved from the late 19th century and early 20th century to lead to the development of
Rock and Roll. Jazz and Blues both originated from African American communities when slaves were
brought over to North America from Africa (Schuller, 1986). As time passed and the culture of
America was constantly changing, so was the music of that time period. The country was starting to
recover from slavery and many Caucasians and African Americans were beginning to emerge in the

The Classic Blues were established by female vocalists like Ma Rainey, Mamie Smith, and Bessie
Smith (Ferris, 2009). The Urban Blues were basically the Delta Blues but enhanced with electric
guitars (Covach, 2015). This form of Blues helped to spark the Great Northern Migration. This
migration resulted in many African American musicians moving north to escape slavery and find
better jobs (Covach, 2015). A few of the artists that we get in the Blues genre are B.B. King, Muddy
Waters, and Bo Diddley (Ferris, 2009). These artists began producing music that followed the twelve
bar form and mimicked the call and response style of old field hollers (Covach, 2015). The Blues
paved the way for the up and coming form of the Jazz genre called Rhythm Blues and eventually it
will lead to the creation of Rock Roll. The Blues had an influence on many of the bands and artists in
the Rock Roll era. One of the most famous being The Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones are a British
band that rose to fame during the British Invasion in the United States (Covach, 2015). They have

Perfect Steak Dinner
Cooking the Perfect Steak Dinner
Steak is one of the most popular foods to eat throughout the world. People will celebrate special
gatherings by eating luxurious foods like steak. Nobody wants to eat a poorly cooked steak though.
Learning to properly cook steak is a great way to get a good job in the future or make more friends
because of your good cooking.
First thing you want to do when cooking a steak is to pick out what kind of steak you are going to
cook. Personally, my favorite steak is filet mignon, but choose any steak of your choice. Once the
steak of your choice is picked out, the steak needs to be taken out of the freezer and left out until the
steak is room temperature. Then you can begin prepping the steak.
The next step, which is my favorite part of the process, is preparing the steak for cooking. First thing
you will want to do with steak is make sure that it is room temperature like mentioned previously. The
reasoning for this is because if you do not do this then the steak will not get properly cooked and it
will taste atrocious. I like to take the steak and put cold butter on top of each part of the steak. This is
so that when the butter melts it will make the steak juicier when you bite into it. This gives it more of

Essay Research on Employee Satisfaction and Production
Through out this essay the notion of satisfied employees being more productive will be broken down
and examined, taking into consideration research and theories, to determine if there is any correlation
between the two elements, and if so, to what extent. Locke (1976) defines job satisfaction as
pleasurable or positive emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one s job or job experience... a
perception of how well their job provides those things that are viewed as important. The feeling of
satisfaction is an attitude, a psychological tendency that is expressed by evaluating a particular entity
with some degree of favour or disfavour (Eagly and Chaiken, 1993) favour being the satisfaction the
employee feels. While in its purest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence his focus on the job resources; there is a role to play by the employer to provide the necessary
elements for the employee to be productive. He shows how the cycle between both job resources and
the employee s personal resources when the requirements are met conclude with productivity.
Reinforcing the importance of rewards and acknowledgement is the concept of flow .
Csikszentmihalyi (1990) developed this concept describing the positive mental state of an individual
being whole heartedly committed to the working process, in the act of being productive, which is
meaningful to the point that intrinsic rewards outweigh any external rewards received. The idea of
flow is that once a person is in flow they are very unlikely to drift from their work, as they have fully
committed their attention to the given activity, meaning they are more dedicated to the task at hand
increasing both the quality and productivity of the employee. It is thought the employee would have to
feel satisfied with their job to be able to maintain this state of flow. Flow is a complete state of
motivation (Csikszentmihalyi 1990) meaning there are no distractions and that they complete the task
at hand, in exchange for the intrinsic rewards they value and are in effect working towards.
Herzberg s (1993) Motivation Hygiene theory analyses job attitudes suggesting a two step approach to
understanding employee motivation and satisfaction;

Abstract
As the days go by the technology of the world advances too. We sit back as people present to us these
new inventions to improve our environment. Do you ever think back the materials and supplies you
use for your personal needs? Over consumption of natural resources is huge problem in our world.
With the new technological advances there are alternative ways to meet these needs. As I sit in my
environmental science class, we discuss what natural resources are being over consumed not for our
needs anymore, but for our wants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our consumption patterns can be measured by our social status and acceptance. The bigger the
pressures upon a person to conform to safe and accepted social standards, the more they end up
expressing their aspirations and their individuality in terms of what they wear, drive, eats, what they
call home, their pattern of food serving, their hobbies . My invention is a bracelet that one wears on a
daily basis that keeps tracks of the consumption of natural resources. This monitoring bracelet will
help many become aware of the over use of natural resources that they use in their everyday lives that
they do not need. For example we use a calorimeter, multi meter, gas chromatograph and mass
spectrometer. Each of these measure a different natural resource.
As you look around where you are sitting, think about how many do not recycle at home and how
many leave the water running while they brush their teeth. Over consumption of natural resources do
not come into mind when you are using the significant resources that are slowly being unavailable to
us. In California, the third largest state of the United States of America, we have been in a drought for
four or more years, although government has made announcements, sent out notices, set
laws/restrictions, and made commercials to show on television. The state of California is over
populated and people are not really aware of what is going. Riverbanks that would usually be filled up
with water, about to

2. Identification of communication styles, skills and effectiveness:
2.1 Communication Style:
The communication style is classified into four different types which are director, analyzer, initiator
and relator. After researching on Sheryl Sandberg, on the basis of her communication skills and styles
I found that her communication style falls into the INITIATOR category. Initiators are also known as
expressers or socializer.
2.2 Clarity of the communication:
Sheryl Sandberg expresses her feelings very easily in the form of words while delivering any speeches
or interviews. Sheryl is a good communicator who easily connects with the audience through her
extraordinary interpersonal skills. While researching I have gone through her personality,
socialization, education and experience. She has very effective communicating skills which includes
clarity along with other vital factors like courtesy, conciseness, completeness and correctness.
2.3 Proper explanation of key messages:
While researching I have gone through to many speeches, chat shows, public interviews from which I
am able to judge Sheryl Sandberg s communication style. For instance, in her speech Why we have
too few women leaders? she expresses her feelings in the form of words she is carrying balanced tone
throughout her speech, excellent facial expressions along with hand gestures are allowing the audience

Comparing The Roles Of Women During Athens And Sparta
Planning Investigation:
This investigation will answer the question What were the differences and similarities of the roles of
women in Athens and Sparta? This question is relevant due to the fact that the role of women and how
they were treated back then are very different than today and we ve come a long way since then in
terms of women s rights. It s also important to see the drastic differences between the roles of women
from one Greek city to another. The issues that will be addressed are their treatment and roles within
societies and how they differ from the Greek towns Athens and Sparta. The places investigated will
include Athens and Sparta. This will be accomplished through an examination of books, websites, and
academic journals.
Word count: 123
Source Evaluation:
The origin of this source is an essay, titled Athenian vs. Spartan Women in Antigone s Era that was
written by Professor Eric Hibbison at J. Sergeant Reynolds Community College in 2002. It s a
secondary source. Its purpose is to inform people and better educate his students and others through
his writing so people would be more informed. A value of this is that it gives the perspective of being
a fairly newer text which means it has more new information. It also has a balanced view on who,
between Athenian and Spartan women, were treated better or worse. However, there were some
limitations too. A lot of the sources were websites with only a handful of book cites, making it rely on
other authors and

United States Global Role Post-Cold War
Recently, and especially since the 1990s, a popular conception of the world is that the age of empires
and superpowers is waning, rapidly being replaced by a kind of global community made up of
interdependent states and deeply connected through economics and technology. In this view, the
United States role following the Cold War is one of almost benign preeminence, in which it seeks to
spread liberal democracy through economic globalization, and, failing that, military intervention. Even
then, however, this military intervention is framed as part of a globalizing process, rather than any
kind of unilateral imperialist endeavor. However, examining the history of the United States since
nearly its inception all the way up to today reveals that nothing could be farther from the truth. The
United States is an empire in the truest sense of the word, expanding its control through military force
with seemingly no end other than its own enrichment. The United States misadventure in Iraq puts the
lie to the notion that US economic and military action is geared towards any kind of global
progression towards liberal democracy, and forces one to re imagine the United States role in
contemporary global affairs by recognizing the way in which it has attempted to secure its own
hegemony by crippling any potential threats. To begin, it is worth noting that in many ways the United
States represents the latest in a long line of empire stretching back to at least the Roman Empire.

1. Benghazi
The night of September 11, 2012 at around 9:30 p.m, an American compound was attacked in
Benghazi, Libya. Armed Islamic militants attacked and set fire to the compound and killed United
States Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer
Sean Smith. Later that night, an assault with mortar fire on the CIA annex kills two Americans, Glen
Doherty and Tyrone S. woods who were both former Navy Seals, and wounding two others.
Four Americans were murdered on foreign soil. This is important to all of us because terrorists and

Although it is great to have brought back another soldier who has spent years as a prisoner of war, the

Guantanamo Bay is considered dangerous. Some have even had close ties with Osama Bin Laden.
Furthermore, each of these Taliban commanders have the potential to plan the next big terrorist attack.

The Effect Of Bubbles And How They Affect Investment
2. The definition of bubbles and how they affect investment This section will focus on the analysis
about how bubbles affect investors behaviors. Since bubbles are closely connected with crises, doing
research on investors behaviors about overvalued assets can help economists to understand crises
fundamental. Therefore it is good for governments to take actions to prevent these crises. The first part
of this section will describe the definition of bubbles in detail, and the second part will illustrate
relevant empirical evidences to further explain how bubbles affect investing behaviors. 2.1 Theoretical
research C. Kindleberger (1978) first defined bubbles as a continuously increasing process of assets
price. This phenomenon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally he found investors behaviors in terms of the overvalued assets played an important role in this
process. Joesph E. Stiglitz (1990) agreed with the theory above, and suggested that if investors
thought assets could be sold over their expectation, they would do more investment, and then assets
actual price would increase, which also means the bubbles would appearance. He thought it is
important to prove the existence of bubbles, since they can implicate the future decrease of assets
price. Therefore governments could take actions to control investors behaviors and avoid crises. But
by taking the 1960s crisis as an example, he found bubbles existence was difficult to test. It is because
bubbles would not exist only if the assets discount rate increased equal to the assets price, which
means the assets value would be equal to the discount value. But this equilibrium is not expectable.
Then Stiglitz proposed that the markets might have multiple equilibriums, so he collected many
economists thoughts about this opinion. But he found models of different economists were developed
in terms of different methods, so they cannot reach an agreement. But he suggested that it is still
important for economists to analyze this problem in further studies. Basing on the research of other
economists, Robert S. Chirinko and Huntley Schaller finally built a widely accepted model, Q
equation, to test bubbles existence. The

The Crystal Clear Water Feels Refreshing To The Touch.
The crystal clear water feels refreshing to the touch. As you look around and see the life that is
surrounded by this natural place of beauty. Though it may look like a haven for all who dwell there,
like anything it has a dark side. The ocean can be a cruel and unforgiving force that should not be
reckoned with. Filled with what scientists believe to be millions of aquatic species. Sea Algae is one of
those species that is a plant and not that cool. Cool animals are whales, dolphins, sharks, and fish.
They are all amazing and are the kings of the oceans. The ocean covers about 75% of the Earth s
surfaces. The climate of the ocean depends on where you are i the world. In the NorthEast of North
America the seas are choppy and filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why it is so vital to the survival of the ocean population. Like nitrogen, Carbon is absorbed and
dissolved into the surface of the ocean. Tiny marine plants called phytoplankton use photosynthesis to
turn much of the carbon dissolved into the ocean into organic matter. Some organisms use it to make
the material used for shells and skeletons, calcium carbonate. By using up carbon through chemical
and biological processes, there is more allowance for carbon dioxide to enter the water from the
atmosphere. The nickname carbon sink has been given to the ocean because it absorbs more carbon
than it lets out.
The relationship between humans and the ocean could once be categorized as commensalism, where
the human was helped, and the ocean was neither helped nor harmed. Now, it has some of the same
characteristics of parasitism. Humans continue to fish, sail, and explore in the ocean. One of the
largest impacts humans have on the ocean is pollution. Beaches across the world are littered with trash
and toxic materials, in and out of the water. Since every ocean connects, a piece of trash could start in
Cuba, and end up somewhere on the coast of Madagascar. To try and reverse the damage done, there
are clean up attempts all around the world to try and make the ocean what it once was. Trash left over
isn t the only problem going on. Every once in awhile, there will be a large boat, transferring oil from
one continent to another. The BP oil spill in

Atheism as a historical philosophy and its relevance in...
Disbelief in the existence of God is an enduring, worldwide phenomenon that is quite possibly also
one of the most misunderstood belief systems in the world. For many, the term atheism immediately
spurs negative imagery inspired by years of indoctrination churches proclaiming the sins of the
infidels, and how questioning God s infinite love will result in instant damnation. Atheists are
perceived as dark, nihilistic, immoral, amoral, pessimistic, and even evil, because without God, clearly
they are also without morality and goodness. But if this disbelief is so negative, why would nearly 1
billion people globally, and more than 16 percent of the American population identify themselves as
nonbelievers ? In fact, a survey published in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of atheism s critics are quick to call the worldview invalid because they assume it wouldn t exist
without theism without the idea of the Divine. In fact, some even go so far as to say that atheism is
actually parasitic on religion. This is an incorrect statement. Without theism, the only part of atheism
that wouldn t exist is its name. Julian Baggini, the editor of The Philosophers Magazine, weaves this
analogy in his book Atheism:
In Scotland there is a deep lake called Loch Ness. Many people in Scotland almost certainly the
majority believe that the lake is like other lochs in the country. Their beliefs about the lake are what
we might call normal. But that is not to say they have no particular beliefs. It s just that the beliefs
they have are so ordinary that they do not require elucidation...However, some people believe that the
loch contains a strange creature, known as the Loch Ness Monster. Many claim to have seen it,
although no firm evidence of its existence has ever been presented. So far our story is simple fact.
Now imagine how the story could develop The number of believers in the monster starts to grow.
Soon, a word is coined to describe them: they are part mockingly called Nessies . (Many names of
religions started as mocking nicknames: Methodist, Quaker, and even Christian all started out this
way.) However,

Equal Opportunity At Texas s State Capitol
Equal Opportunity in Texas On July 1, 2013, Texas Senator Wendy Davis made a speech at Texas s
State Capitol. She had an audience of about 5,000 people, as she spoke about Women s Rights and
Texan power. In Stand with Texas Women , Wendy Davis argues that Texas is all about fairness, so
women deserve equal opportunity. Specifically, Davis states that Texas has pushed to be fair, but
politicians have been selfish in their careers. Her point is that creating equal opportunity for women
will help not only Texan families, but Texas as a whole. She also points out that Texas needs
politicians who want what is best for the state and the people. Davis uses simple, but passionate
language in her speech. She focuses on the pride she has of Texas, ... Show more content on

During the filibuster, she wanted to block Senate Bill five which included that Texas would have more
restrictive abortion regulations. She argued for certain regulations, such as fighting for abortion to be
banned after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Unfortunately, she failed to prove her point to the senate. In her
speech at the rally on July 1, 2013, she talks about the previous filibuster and she called it the crux of a
turning point in Texas History . The importance of the date of the Stand with Texas Women speech is
that it was only a few days after her filibuster at the senate. She was trying to reach out to the women
who felt regretful about their abortions. She was trying to further her points from the filibuster, by
talking directly to the Texas women who attended the rally. As she stood in front of 5,000 men and
women at the Texas Capitol, she stood in front of a much larger audience than expected. Her speech
targeted women and men wanting a better life for them and their families. During the weekend before
she spoke Rick Perry, knowing she is a single mother accused her of not learning her lesson (Koh,
Luthra). He was pushing her to a limit that she did not appreciate. She attacked him in her speech by
stating I was lucky enough to be able to make the choices in my life that I knew would work for me.
And I don t regret for one minute my decisions about my daughters, my education or my direction in
life.

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Comparative Essay
Horror films are a format of entertainment used to thrill, entice, and scare audiences for years, dating
all the way back to the era of silent film. In the genre, there are many types of horror, which include
expressionism, melodrama, film noir, and science fiction. For the following prose, the style of German
Expressionism will be highlighted by contrasting a film from 1919, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
directed by Robert Wiene, with 2010 film Shutter Island directed by Martin Scorsese. The archetypal
monster both films focus on is the beast within. Essentially, both films have very similar story lines, so
much so that Shutter Island can almost be considered an updated remake of Caligari. In the following,

By distorting the outside world and the characters in it, the audience is thrilled and taken to another
world full of horror and distress in a subjective manner. In The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the set design
is wildly distorted, with construction that had never been seen before. Kristin Thompson and David
Bordwell write, The cutting and camerawork are fairly conservative, but the setting and acting seek to
convey a madman s vision of the world (Bordwell and Thompson 1). The setting itself, a carnival, was
very popular at the time the film was made. The makeup of Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss), and his
somnambulist Cesare (Conrad Veidt) is also included in this bizarre new style of expression. Dr.
Caligari has thick wrinkles drawn on his face, as well as wild hair and dress. Cesare has a very dark
and dismal look, which includes dark eye circles, dark hair, clothing, and chains. In contrast, the
modern film Shutter Island, distorts the set of the movie in a different, yet still terrifying and
subjective manner. The film uses an island as the setting for the film, inhabited only by an asylum for
the criminally insane. It is mentioned that the only way on or off the island is by way of the ferry. The
island is

  • 2. Comparing Poems 100 I Believe And Ars Poetry Poetry is the expression of emotion and ideas through the use of words. Ars Poetica #100: I Believe by Elizabeth Alexander and Poetry by Marianne Moore are two poems that illustrate how each author feels about poetry. They both express what it is about poetry that should be valued. Although poetry can be misunderstanding, it exemplifies much purpose. There are many different ways the two authors show how poetry is purposeful. One way is when Alexander says, Poetry (here I hear myself loudest) is the human voice... This line is saying poetry allows a person to express themselves. As she speaks at her loudest, she puts emphasis on the human voice, making it authoritative. Another way Alexander expresses the purpose of poetry is when she says, Poetry is what you find in the dirt in the corner, over hear on the bus, God in the details... This line shows how poetry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alexander positions her poem in stanzas, while Moore s is a free verse (hers does not follow a regular pattern of rhyme.) Alexander s whole poem is symbolic. She compares poetry to many things. Alexander defines poetry when she says, Poetry, I tell my students, is idiosyncratic. Idiosyncratic meaning distinctive, special, or individualistic. Her repetition of using poetry is in each stanza explains what poetry is and is not. Moore, on the other hand, uses more imagery. She uses some metaphors and similes. Moore is also very detailed in her description of what poetry is and how valuable good poetry can be. A simile Moore uses is, The immovable critic twitching his skin like a horse that feels a flea... Any person will instantly think of a horse, twitching with fleas. Some metaphors she uses are imaginary gardens with real toads in them. With this metaphor, Moore insists that true poetry should include both imagination and reality. A line that includes much imagery is when Moore says, The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sonrisas Pat Mora The poem Sonrisas by Pat Mora is about someone torn between two lifestyles. Mora uses contrasting diction between the two stanzas to show her feelings towards both rooms; Mora also uses sibilance to further portray the differing nature of those two rooms. Mora s diction and use of sibilance in the first stanza create a tense atmosphere in the room. In lines 6 to 8, the speaker says, careful woman in crisp beige/suits, quick beige smiles/that seldom sneak into their eyes . Words like quick , seldom , and sneak in combination lets the reader know that the woman with the beige smiles do not have a lasting happiness, and their smiles are not genuine due to the quickness and rareness of the action. In addition, these words have a negative connotation, because their association with rushed, rare and creepy actions, so one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When taking all these elements into account, the speaker builds up a tense atmosphere with the sibilance and negative diction combination, and the professionalism and bitterness of the black coffee. However, in the second stanza, the atmosphere changes from tense to happy and natural. Mora states that the second room is filled with señoras/ in faded dresses stir sweet/milk coffee, laughter whirls/with steam from fresh tamales (Lines 10 13). Immediately, the reader can sense a difference between the señoras and the beige woman from the language usage; words like sweet , laughter , and whirls are more playful and have a positive connotation because they represent pleasant taste, joy, and movement. The speaker feels more connected to the señoras because of the positive diction, but with the use of sibilance in the words señoras , sweet , and steam a calming and natural atmosphere can be felt by both the reader and the speaker because of the s ... The networks combine IP with a higher level protocol called Transmission Control Protocol. This protocol establishes an implicit connection between a destination and the origin. Internet Protocol can be correlated to a postal system network. It grants an entity to address a parcel, packet or mail and drop it in the postal system. There is no direct link between the consignor and the recipient. TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is the primary network communication, language since the mid 1990s. It can be passed down as a communications protocol in a private network. The TCP/IP is a two layered protocol. The Transmission Control Protocol is the higher layer which administers the assembling of a message or file into smaller packets. These packets are transmitted over the Internet. The packets are amassed and reassembled into the primary message after being received by the TCP layer. The Internet Protocol is the lower layer. This layer monitors the address part of each packet so that it gets to the right destination. The TCP/IP establishes an intermediary between two hosts so that they can send messages back and forth for a period of time. • 5. The Whole Life In Prison Book Report This book is about a man who changed his whole life in prison. The author s purpose for this book is to inform. He wrote this book for a young adult audience. I know this because I found it in the young adults section in the library, also because some events in this story aren t meant for children to be reading. For example you wouldn t read a book about someone selling, transporting, and smoking hash, which is a drug to a child. I chose this book because I needed a short nonfiction book to read, so that I could complete this book report. Chapter one, section one, is one of my favorites. It shows how his dad is warning him about taking the criminal path in life. He and his dad used to ride around while his dad pointed out criminals and told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Regulation of Violent Video Games Issue: Video games are the primary source of entertainment for children nowadays. Be it in form of Wii Games, Nintendo or Xbox; children nowadays seems to be practically smitten with video games. It was also shown as evidence in some cases that the influence of such games is so huge that few children start speaking and acting like characters in the video games. Many video games, dating back to 1976 s Death Race, contain some or other aspect of violence, such as killing the bad person, driving dangerous vehicle etc. With advancement in graphic technology including software, modern computers and other game related technology, the way in which such violence and other extreme sports are being depicted has become more vivid and realistic. Further, as more and more children are getting exposed violent games, there is a growing awareness among both parents and the government for regulation of such games. Also, apart from the fact that people were, in general, becoming more aware and conscious, numerous studies were also being done to find connection between violent video games and the rate at which violence and crime is growing. Some of these studies showed existence of a positive correlation. Incidents such as the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999 heightened concerns of a potential connection between video games and violent actions. In addition to details of the trip, Xenophon discusses some personal qualities of Cyrus and the leaders of his mercenary s. Themistocles was an Athenian politician from a slightly earlier period who rose to prominence using his cunning, cleverness, persuasion, and deception. Xenophon s main reason for disliking Menon was his deceitfulness and dishonest nature: The shortest road to the achievement of his desires lay he thought through false swearing, lying, and cheating (Xenophon, 2.6). Xenophon also valued the honesty of Cyrus. He would tell no lies to anyone (Xenophon, 1.9). Themistocles was also deceitful and willing to do whatever was necessary to survive, as illustrated by his clever trick in Salamis: so he cast around for a counter stroke and hit upon his celebrated trick Siccinus (Plutarch ,3.12). Even when Themistocles did not lie outright, he valued his manipulative powers: Themistocles told them that he had brought two gods, persuasion and compulsion (Plutarch, 3.21). He used his cunning to get his way, threatening to lie to get the sailors in trouble if they crossed him: but partly by entreaties and partly by the threat that he would denounce them to the Athenians and make it appear that they had known all along who he was, but had taken him on board in the first instance for a bribe, he forced them to stand out to sea and reach the coast of Asia (Plutarch, 3.25). Last week, the Atlantic reprinted a Democracy: A Journal of Ideas article, which attempted to make a hard to parse point about race in America in the context of the solar eclipse. The thesis of the article was that the regions experiencing the total eclipse are mostly inhabited by white people and also America has a history of racism. It was quickly picked up by far right pundits and conservative media as the left s attempt to make everything about racism. Here s Infowars Alex Jones tweeting about it: The left wants you to think #SolarEclipse2017 is racist. • 12. Wieel Wiesel Reflection In chapter one, page fifteen, I was intrigued by the quote, I looked at my house in which I had spent years seeking my God, fasting to hasten the coming of the Messiah, imagining what my life would be like later. Yet I felt little sadness. My mind was empty. (Wiesel 15) This passage really caught my attention because, in the quote it shows how affected they really were. in this quote he s saying that, as hard as he tried to have faith in his god and pursue to the future of freedom, it gets harder and harder to have the faith when you have nothing left. I really thought this quote was interesting because it gives perspective on how affective this event was for the Jewish, they not only were leaving everything they had behind, but some of the faith and religion they carried with them. Page ten, chapter 1, I chose the passage, The race to death had begun. (Wiesel 10) as an important style of writing. This quote is personifying how quickly death reached some of the Jews from Sighet. I think this use of personification, which is the style figure of speech, is a big factor to the text because, it enhances the amount of emotion it makes you feel while reading. In this passage, the use of personification is a major element because it is making us feel the emotion of fear that they all have. While reading Chapter 1, I was challenged by the word penury, He was poor and lived in utter penury. (Wiesel 1) In this sentence penury directly means poverty, after learning this ... The Music Styles Of Jazz And Evolution of Jazz and Blues The music styles of Jazz and Blues are both considered to be great American musical art forms (Covach, 2015). These styles are also two very important roots of music and have evolved from the late 19th century and early 20th century to lead to the development of Rock and Roll. Jazz and Blues both originated from African American communities when slaves were brought over to North America from Africa (Schuller, 1986). As time passed and the culture of America was constantly changing, so was the music of that time period. Csikszentmihalyi (1990) developed this concept describing the positive mental state of an individual being whole heartedly committed to the working process, in the act of being productive, which is meaningful to the point that intrinsic rewards outweigh any external rewards received. We sit back as people present to us these new inventions to improve our environment. Do you ever think back the materials and supplies you use for your personal needs? Our consumption patterns can be measured by our social status and acceptance. The bigger the pressures upon a person to conform to safe and accepted social standards, the more they end up expressing their aspirations and their individuality in terms of what they wear, drive, eats, what they call home, their pattern of food serving, their hobbies . My invention is a bracelet that one wears on a daily basis that keeps tracks of the consumption of natural resources. United States Global Role Post-Cold War Recently, and especially since the 1990s, a popular conception of the world is that the age of empires and superpowers is waning, rapidly being replaced by a kind of global community made up of interdependent states and deeply connected through economics and technology. In this view, the United States role following the Cold War is one of almost benign preeminence, in which it seeks to spread liberal democracy through economic globalization, and, failing that, military intervention. Even then, however, this military intervention is framed as part of a globalizing process, rather than any kind of unilateral imperialist endeavor. He thought it is important to prove the existence of bubbles, since they can implicate the future decrease of assets price. Therefore governments could take actions to control investors behaviors and avoid crises. But by taking the 1960s crisis as an example, he found bubbles existence was difficult to test. It is because bubbles would not exist only if the assets discount rate increased equal to the assets price, which means the assets value would be equal to the discount value. But this equilibrium is not expectable. Then Stiglitz proposed that the markets might have multiple equilibriums, so he collected many economists thoughts about this opinion. But he found models of different economists were developed in terms of different methods, so they cannot reach an agreement. During the filibuster, she wanted to block Senate Bill five which included that Texas would have more restrictive abortion regulations. She argued for certain regulations, such as fighting for abortion to be banned after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Unfortunately, she failed to prove her point to the senate. In her speech at the rally on July 1, 2013, she talks about the previous filibuster and she called it the crux of a turning point in Texas History . The importance of the date of the Stand with Texas Women speech is that it was only a few days after her filibuster at the senate. She was trying to reach out to the women who felt regretful about their abortions. She was trying to further her points from the filibuster, by talking directly to the Texas women who attended the rally. By distorting the outside world and the characters in it, the audience is thrilled and taken to another world full of horror and distress in a subjective manner. In The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, the set design is wildly distorted, with construction that had never been seen before. Kristin Thompson and David Bordwell write, The cutting and camerawork are fairly conservative, but the setting and acting seek to convey a madman s vision of the world (Bordwell and Thompson 1). The setting itself, a carnival, was very popular at the time the film was made. The makeup of Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss), and his somnambulist Cesare (Conrad Veidt) is also included in this bizarre new style of expression. Dr. Caligari has thick wrinkles drawn on his face, as well as wild hair and dress. Cesare has a very dark and dismal look, which includes dark eye circles, dark hair, clothing, and chains. In contrast, the modern film Shutter Island, distorts the set of the movie in a different, yet still terrifying and subjective manner. The film uses an island as the setting for the film, inhabited only by an asylum for the criminally insane. It is mentioned that the only way on or off the island is by way of the ferry. The island is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
