Why Do Ants And Bees Have Similarities In Social Behavior
Ants and bees have similarities in social behavior. First, social structure is the same in ants and bees.
Both bees and ants live in colonies that have at least one queen, few males and many specialized
workers that are all female. The bees queen populates the colony like the queen of ants lays thousands
of eggs. the female workers in both species are building and taking care of the nest. Also, the main
function of the males in ants and bees is to fertilize the queen s eggs. Second, both ants and bees share
some communication s methods one method is pheromones which is chemical substance produced by
the species. Ants use their antennas with Pheromones to smell. Moreover, each colony carries their
own unique set of pheromones, making it possible

Gender Equality During the Renaissance Essay
The Renaissance was simply the green end of one of civilization s hardest winters (Robert 10). In
other words, catastrophic events swept through Europe such as the black plague, warfare, and
starvation causing a high population of death rates. After an era of destitution, the Renaissance was a
period of rebirth where individuals could express their intellectual thought through art, science,
literature, and education. It s true that people during that time express humanist ideals of individual
achievement, but does the word individual contribute to both men and women (Ramirez 439)? As a
result, in what ways did the Renaissance world view influence or impact social issues such as gender
equality? The Renaissance highly influenced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her husband legally owns all her assets such as her dowry, her property, and wedding finery (Suite101
1). Once married the wife is obliged to carry the line of her husband by producing children. A woman
must give birth to several children because during that time only a few children would survive into
adulthood. If a woman has children and her husband dies, she would lack a male support in her life.
Thus, she would be financially unstable and live a life as a widow (Suite101 2). In a marriage the job
of a husband is to provide dominance in a family and to rule or govern his wife in all duties that
properly belong to marriage (Camden 112). The husband must provide and care for his wife, but at the
same time he must also be in control. In general, women are always under a male power. During
childhood she is controlled by her father and after marriage, she submits herself to her husband (Zuber
1). Even in the topic of marriage, women are inferior to men because they live a life of submission and
they are seen as items for their husband in order to bear children.
Financially the husband manages the assets of his wife and he is usually the breadwinner or the
provider in a family (Kuehn 58). Generally, the husband owns the land/property in which he lives on.
Having ownership in a property is seen as an investment if a couple is agriculturally involved; the land
provides as an income where crops can be

Case Study Of BCCI Fraud
The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major international banking
fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The estimated amount involving the fraud
was around £800 million at that time. The bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400
branches and it attracted mainly Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of
the bank, hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included local
councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted the media spotlight
and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking sector.
The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its corporate structure and
its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early days. Even in later days, it was very hard for
regulators to bring BCCI to the book. However, many public outcry and ethical concerns raised by
other parts of the banking industry made regulators in America and Britain take stock of the situation.
Only after this, BCCI soon came under the scrutiny of numerous national and international ... Show

Escape From Alcatraz Essay
Escape from Alcatraz on June 11, 1962: Success of failure?
Over the past 50 years, agents have been searching for the fugitives that escaped the night of June 11,
1962. There are stories from the relatives that claim that John and Clarence Anglin have been living in
Brazil. Although, their is not much information on Frank Lee Morris. Some assume he didn t make it
of separated from the brothers as soon as they got to land. Besides papers with no return address and
weird evidence, their have been sightings of the brothers and beliefs of them going to their mother
funeral. All this adds up to the possibility that the Anglin brothers, and possibly Frank Morris,
surviving the Alcatraz escape.
Much of the evidence given by the FBI has all just been assumed, not actually proved. The police and
officials have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course they make the rafts from coats as well and actually go to Alcatraz at the approximate time
when they escaped and most have succeeded. The popular T.V show Mythbusters has tried the escape,
and have come to the conclusion that it is possible to have paddled to safety close to the golden Gate
Bridge. (Gannon) Another study used some of the best hydraulics and came to the possibility that the
men could have defiantly escaped. (Gannon)
The biggest evidence that the police could possibly obtain is the fact the men are alive. Their have
been people and members of the family say that they are living somewhere in brazil with their wives
and children. One family member, a nephew by the name of Ken Widner, told daily mail that he was
certain his uncles where in brazil with their families and that they had started new life there. (Boyle).
Other sources said they new one of their family members knew they where alive, and that on his
death, he admitted that he had been in touch with the brothers for the first 25 years after the escape.

JP Morgan Chase Catastrophe
In the year of 2007, the Great Recession began. It all started at the bustling Wall Street. It was a
pandemic that brought dilemma to the businesses, to the employees and to the elated new home
owners. JP Morgan Chase was one of the major banks participated in falsifying the mortgage loans,
and they suffered consequences for what they did. The mortgage loans gave temporary joy but
longtime misery to home buyers. The federal government filed a lawsuit, and it reached a settlement.
The tragedy resulted to Global and Financial reforms. The mortgage loans were used in risky
businesses. Back in 2008, James Dimon, the head of JPMorgan Chase, disclosed mortgage
underwriting was terrible. Mortgage loans are assets that were exploited to make up collateralized debt
obligations. They were also destructively utilized in investing of the banks. The mortgages seemed
improved, and they were swiftly sold because the bank attuned the critical assessments when an
outside analysis exposed intense defects with thousands of home loans. In consequence, millions of
Americans were unable to put their homes on market because they had lost so much worth as the
housing market dropped. Gretchen Morgenson, writer from NY Times, dubbed the loans as poisonous.
Due to the bank malpractices, they faced criticisms. From 2005 to 2008, the bank confessed to a
statement of facts that figured how it crashed to totally unveil the hazards of buying uncertain
mortgage securities. In March 2013,

The most viewed injustices that you can experience here in Denmark will probably be discrimination.
I have not seen or been in a situation where I have been treated unfairly. I am one of the many
Muslims who live in Denmark and many of them are often generalized and are treated differently. The
reason why I might not have experienced it can be because of my white Caucasian color that makes
me look like a Danes. I hope not that I will be treated injustice for my nationality or religion. We all se

Pros Of Collective Bargaining
On Tuesday, March 29, a tie vote in the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a victory for unions and
collective bargaining. The Supreme Court reached a 4 4 vote in Friedrichs v. California Teachers
Association, a major labor case on union funding. This tie vote upholds the legality of fair share fees
and allows unions to maintain the system they use to collect funds that support collective bargaining
and obtaining benefits for workers.

Integration of Deck Department with the Engineering department
Disagreements between Departments and duty sections at small boat stations have become more
commonplace, and seem to be on the rise. The integration of the Deck and Engineering departments
would spread out the work load, increase productivity and raise the standards of upkeep on the unit s
small boats. Spreading out the work load among a larger department would allow the unit to
accomplish the same amount of work, in less time. Allowing personnel to spend more time training
and learning each other s job. Not only does integration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

boat station that I would like to fix it would be the unity. The time I spent underway on cutters was
one of the most rewarding times of my Coast Guard career. We were divided among our departments,
but united in our mission and when the ship sailed we were all the same, we all wanted to complete
the mission safely and return home to our family s. If I could bring that kind of attitude into a station
environment we would all succeed at our jobs and the Coast Guards Mission. Together, as a

Guns Should Be Allowed In Schools Essay
On August 1, 1966 Charles Whitman opened fire from the University Of Texas Austin tower killing 16
people. On August 1, 2016 A Texas law went into effect that allows concealed handguns in college and
university buildings in Texas. This law went into effect as the university held a memorial for one of
the deadliest shootings on a college campus. Guns do not belong in schools and especially not on
college campuses. Colleges should not allow guns because suicide rates would go up, young adults
tend to act more rashly, the college life is defined by excessive alcohol use and would increase
accidents shootings. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. Suicide by
firearm is the most common method and 90% of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A student at Weber State University was carrying a gun in his pocket when it went off and shot him in
the leg. During the middle of a lecture a professor at Idaho State University accidentally shot himself
in the foot. None of these would have happened if the colleges did not allow concealed carry. Those
who oppose this argument usually downplay these incidents like on concealedcampus.org which says
these incidents resulted in non life threatening injuries to the license holder s leg . People might also
say that incidents like these could be avoided with proper training. According to The Trace ...in the US

include an unknown number of injuries from such accidents. If people whose job it is to handle guns
get injured frequently, the average student or professor would not do better.
College campuses are not places where students should be carrying guns. This is because there is a
risk of accidental shooting, young adults act more reckless, college students often drink alcohol in
excess and suicide rates would increase. The risks to campus carry far outweigh the benefits and just is
not worth

Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Frankenstein
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice and Mary Shelley s
Frankenstein are very different books. They differ drastically in tone, style, and subject matter, but on
a deeper level, they do have some similarities, even beyond both featuring characters named
Elizabeth. Both works share a fundamentally similar message. In these novels, the authors use letters
to show the power of the written word in communication and how letters help to dispel the prideful
self absorption plaguing the protagonists. In both novels, prior to reading the letter, the protagonists,
Victor Frankenstein and Elizabeth Bennet, are prideful, vain, and self involved. Victor is isolating

letters are already fully written, the protagonists cannot interrupt or counter a statement. The
conversation, for the first time, is fully under the control of the letter writer, not the protagonist.
Normally, Victor controls when he and Elizabeth speak, through his mood, words, travelling, or self
inflicted isolation. She even silences herself because of his influence, based on the assumption that she
does not have a right to burden Victor with her feelings when he is already so preoccupied with illness
and grief. She doesn t want him to leave, but again puts his opinions ahead of her own: My journey
had been my own suggestion, and Elizabeth therefore acquiesced, but she was filled with disquiet at
the idea of my suffering, away from her, the inroads of misery and grief. ... She longed to bid me
hasten my return; a thousand conflicting emotions rendered her mute as she bade me a tearful, silent
farewell (Shelley 159). However, by sending her letter, Elizabeth takes control for the first time,
asking if she is the true cause of his misery: Answer me, I conjure you by our mutual happiness, with
simple truth Do you not love another? ... I confess to you, my friend, that when I saw you last autumn
so unhappy, ... I could not help supposing that you might regret our connection and believe yourself
bound in honour to fulfil the wishes of your parents, although they opposed themselves to your
inclinations (192). She asks a question that could potentially hurt her, should he respond that, yes, he
would like to end their betrothal, but she asks the question anyway because he has not divulged other
possible reason for his misery. She knows that he will never tell her the root of his suffering when he
is in control of the conversation, knowing that it is possible that he is trying to spare her feelings, and

The True Maeaning of Invisiblity
With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading
it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it
becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional
or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences
of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless
protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from
a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded
by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the
protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to
play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as
someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s
life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him.
The genres of this work appear to be African American literature, satire, and in a sense it is a coming
of age kind of story. As such, the story follows the narrator s life during the great migration/Harlem
Renaissance era and has many different locations. It starts off in the

North Dakota Pipeline Analysis
In North Dakota, oil is a great source of revenue. Since the oil boom, transporting that oil has been
done through pipelines as well as rail cars. Recently, the Dakota Access pipeline has attracted attention
from celebrities and other civilians that are not even residents of the Dakotas, such as Shailene
Woodley, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda, and Mark Ruffalo. Pipelines can be both efficient and
dangerous. The efficiency can be read in the ability to transport the oil to other states, while the danger
can be read in the environmental damage of an oil spill in a river that people depend on for water in
the case the Dakota Access pipeline could damage the Missouri River. No matter all the perks of a

Those for the pipeline say that it will help the economy, and that it will be much safer than
transporting crude oil through rail cars. North Dakota oil producers will also get more revenue as a
result. However, those against the pipeline say that even though it may be swell for the economy, it
will not be swell for the environment. The gases that will be released from burning those gases from
cars and other sources will help advance climate change, and is ultimately bad for the environment. If
the United States just went to completely renewable energy, we could slow down the process. Also, it
was planned that the pipeline be built and crossing under the Missouri River, which is the main water

The Ten Stages of Genocide by Gregory H. Stanton
Did you know that today there are still acts of genocide happening around the world? The Ten Stages
of Genocide is an article written by Gregory H. Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, an
organization that is fighting to end genocide. In this article, Stanton lists ten stages that will occur in a
genocide, starting with the stage of classification and ending with the stage of denial. In Burma, a
sovereign state, also known as Myanmar, a minority ethnic group named the Rohingya is being
discriminated by the majority of the population and the government in Burma. The Rohingya have
been denied Burmese citizenship since 1982, when a law was enacted by the state government that
excludes the Rohingya as one of Burma s ethnic groups ( Myanmar Will Not Recognize ). There has
also been reports of ethnic cleansing, anti Muslim violence, and forced labor ( Plight ). Because the
Burmese government refuses to recognize the Rohingya Muslims as one of their official national races
and denies the Rohingya of their rights, the United Nations and Gregory Stanton, president of
Genocide Watch, recognize the ethnic discrimination of this group as a growing problem. The United
Nations strives to stop the mistreatment of the Rohingya, and Genocide Watch declares that Rakhine
State in Burma is in a state of genocide emergency, going through the ten stages of genocide. Because
of the cruel treatment of the Muslim Rohingya people in Burma, the United Nations and Gregory

Comparing the Forgotten God of Love in Robert Bridges Poem EPÙÓ and Anne Stevenson s Poem
Eros
It is often in books, poems, paintings, and sculptures that one hears of and sees the goddess of love.
But when is it that one hears of the god? In Greek mythology, Eros is the god of love, and a god who
is many times overlooked. In Robert Bridges EPÙÓ and Anne Stevenson s Eros , the idea that Eros is
overlooked is portrayed, but in two separate ways. Techniques such as diction, imagery, and tone are
used to help convey the idea.
EPÙÓ, Greek for Eros, is shown to be beautiful in Bridges poem: beautiful and adored, yet forgotten.

After so many times of distributing love, but receiving no recognition, respect, or acknowledgement of
any sort, Eros face just turned blank.
Continuing on, Bridges writes, And would in darkness come, but thou makest the light wher er thou
go. Ah yet no victim of thy grace. This shows the horrible state of disregard that Eros has to face. It is
sad, that after all the satisfaction and light love gives, love himself isn t satisfied and is still
enshrouded in the dark. Eros himself is forgotten. All the love Eros creates and instills in people stay,
but Eros and even his memory is quickly overlooked and not given the proper gratitude and reverence.
In Anne Stevenson s Eros, the god of love is shown to be broken and abused. Many negative words
are used to emphasize Eros brokenness. He is described as a bully boy, a brute that offends, and is
given blows delivered by lust. These words are not pleasant, as they illustrate an offensive, hurtful
figure. As a slave to immortality, Eros is doomed to a bruised and battered visage for eternity. It is
destined for him to endure such a future because of the nature of his job. These strong words of hate
and hurt show the pain that love had to endure. The caller of love asks, Can this be you, with boxer
lips and patchy wings askew? Eros answers with, what you see is what long overuse has made

ATP and occurs in 3 metabolic stages. The stages included are glycolysis, the Kreb s cycle, and
oxidative phosphorylation. Throughout the whole process, glucose or various other saccharides are
broken down, producing CO2, ATP, NADH, Pyruvate, and FADH2. Aerobic respiration and anaerobic
respiration are very similar, the only difference is the final electron acceptor, as Aerobic respiration
involves oxygen. In order to study and detect how much cellular respiration occurs in an organism, the
amount of glucose used, the amount of oxygen consumed, or the amount of CO2 given off can be
measured. Bread, wine, and beer are all made from yeast. Yeast must go through cellular respiration
and produce CO2 in order for the bread to rise and form properly; however, different monosaccharides
may affect the level of CO2, measured in mL, given off by Saccharomyces cerevisiae (found in yeast),
while affecting yeast s ability to metabolize during glycolysis. Durham tubes (a sealed, cut off 5 mL,
pipette) can be used to measure the amount of CO2 produced as the yeast metabolizes.
The approached used was to test the level of CO2 (mL) production, after different solutions with 1.5
mL of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 4.5 mL and either 1M of glucose, fructose, or galactose go
through cellular respiration. The higher level of CO2 produced indicates the more cellular respiration
that took place. A

King Lear Tragic Hero Essay
A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall caused
by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall. King Lear
from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play written by
Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic hero because of his high status, his downfall which was
caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is portrayed as a tragic hero
partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear makes many mistakes, which
show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity. He does not even want ot go
insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep me in temper: I would not be mad!
(I v 1 2). In the end of the play, Lear s insanity leads to his demise. When he meets Cordelia ... Show

Aristotle believes that a tragic hero s downfall is his/her own fault. He also believes that this decision
was made by choice and not by force. King Lear truly fits this description. King Lear s downfall was
dividing his land (and his crown) to his three daughters out of narcissism. Lear wanted his daughters
to tell him how much they loved him. He did this by choice, not knowing how evil two of his
daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually love him. His obliviousness
was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King Lear disowned his youngest
daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him most. Lear is outraged when she does
not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more
hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the sea monster! (I iv 4 6). He mistook her honesty for
lack of respect, which partially led to his downfall as well. By the end of the play, Lear s mistakes
caused him to go

Love In Hamlet And Ophelia
Love is different for each and every individual. It is so powerful that people cry, suffer pain, or even
risk their lives to save it. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or even the love
that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It is that kind of love
that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, especially when it comes to
Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s advisor, the ever forgetful and
meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for Ophelia was not only fabricated, but
unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long meditation on the nature of being and death,
Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to return some of the remembrances that Hamlet
gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given
Ophelia anything and continues to erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he
never loved her at all. The problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims
to love Ophelia amidst a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia.
Not only does he doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to
eavesdrop on him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a
nunnery rather than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself,
saying that no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in
shambles. Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is
completely no love that he shares with Ophelia. In a way, Hamlet seems convinced that Ophelia is the
love of her life, but yet he has the behavior of insulting her and not giving her the priority that she
needs. His character portrays a man who cannot be connected to his self and this leads him to a
number of problems as regards the way he treats Ophelia. It is not just the feelings that Hamlet has
towards Ophelia that describes his love for her but his actions say a lot on the feeling that is in the
inside. Reaching to an extent that he can

How Does Rap Music Cause Racism
Title There will never be an N word at SAE these are the words that were chanted by a frat group on a
bus earlier this year. After hearing these racist words many were quick to point the finger and blame it
on hip hop. For years this particular genre of music has been the target for the numerous acts of
violence, and racism throughout the country. Could the explicit rap lyrics that describes living in low
income housing, poverty stricken neighborhoods, and violent communities really promote such
vicious acts? Or are their lyrics a form of art that is simply expressing the eerie lifestyle many of them
have lived before success? Although many believe hip hop is to blame for the racism and violence in
our country, the real source that should be held accountable are the media and corporate executives of
record labels.. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sacramental Research Paper
The Sacramental of the Rosary Growing up in a Catholic family and attending Catholic school, my
aunt, Sister Antonella Bayer, experienced many sacraments and sacramentals throughout her life. At
school, she had the holy water fonts to make the sign of the cross when coming into class. Her home
environment consisted of praying before bed with her mother, and praying the litanies with her father
during Forty Hours and Holy Week services. As she grew up, she absolutely connected with one
sacramental in general which was the rosary. As a result of numerous experiences with her family and
the Holy Trinity, Sister Antonella Bayer s favorite sacramental is the rosary. Sister Antonella Bayer s
origins of the sacramental began when she was in grade school. She took part in a living rosary during
the May crowning at St. Catherine s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. In this living rosary, the children

Equality By Maya Angelou Ethos
There is not a single person in the world born evil. It is a person s experiences and the decisions that
they make in life that define them as a person, not the way they appear on the outside. And yet,
millions of people are judged solely on the colour of their skin or their gender every single day. Maya
Angelou worked her entire life to change this deafening life sentence of discrimination. Throughout
her poems Equality, Still I Rise, and A Brave and Startling Truth, Maya Angelou develops the theme
of the necessity of equality through the use of repetition, metaphor, and point of view.
Firstly, In Maya Angelou s poem, Equality, the point of view, metaphor, and repetition are used to

Maya Angelou also uses repetition in her poem Equality as a way to prove the necessity of equality as
the world so desperately desires it. The poem Equality successfully demonstrates the urgent need for
equality in the world, and that point is driven home by the repetition of the phrase Equality, and I will
be free (9). This phrase is vital, as it shows that only when the world is equal can there be true
freedom for everyone. Those discriminated against, such as the African American woman portrayed in
Equality, are trapped beneath the weight of those forcing them to be smaller. The woman in this poem
is fighting for acknowledgement and to be seen as equal; to no longer be the faint whisper out of range
(6). The phrase Equality, and I will be free is repeated in six lines in a poem that is thirty lines,
consistently emphasizing the fact that when equality is finally achieved, freedom will come with
it.Finally, Maya Angelou uses the poetic device metaphor to allow the audience to visualize the true
need for equality. Throughout Equality, metaphors are used to connect the reader to the poem and to
aid them in fully understanding the gravity of the need for equality. The speaker tells white

Ethos Pathos Logos In Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis
Have you ever wondered how Antony persuades the crowd towards his reasoning so easily? Did you
ever wonder if there was a special technique? In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Antony turns a
shocked, confused crowd of mourners into an angry mob of rioters when speaking to them. He does
this by using these three persuasive techniques, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Ethos is a technique that
persuades through ethics and morals, Pathos persuades through emotion, and Logos is a technique that
uses logic and reasoning. In the play Antony persuades the crowd using a technique called ethos. For
example, Antony says I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke, but here I am to speak what I do
know . When he said this he was trying to explain that he was not against Brutus s reasoning. This
makes the crowd think that Antony is a good guy and he doesn t want trouble which is the technique
ethos. Antony also says O masters, if I were disposed to stir your hearts ... Show more content on

Steinbeck, in the novel, The Grapes of Wrath, portrays that the hardships and struggles the migrants

Loyalty In Plato s Symposium
One type of love that is brought up by many speakers in Plato s Symposium is that of an older man,
around thirty, and a much younger boy, around thirteen. This love is rare in today s society, but all of
the speakers present feel the need to defend this pederasty, proving the increased role that this love
played in their society. Although this love was more common during the time of the Symposium, there
are similar types of relationships still occurring. Not all of these modern relationships include sex as
the old relationships did, but they still have the exchange of virtue and wisdom that the past
relationships did. Many of the speakers address the issue of pederasty directly, and others do so
indirectly through inferences and conclusions. During the course of Pausanias speech, the topic of

of love that are allowed, are often controversial especially since they could not even say what they

Federal Express established itself as a key player in the competitive airfreight industry, just three years
after beginning operations, as a direct result of its unique strategic hub system and a policy of limiting
package size to under 70 pounds. By capitalizing on this strategy, FedEx was able to boost its average
delivery volume in 1976 to 20,726 packages per day via its three services, Priority One, Standard Air,
and Courier Pack, compared with an average of 10,521 delivered daily the prior year. Clearly the

By 1976, at a volume of 1,300 packages per day, FedEx s Courier Pack service was only fulfilling one
tenth of a percent of the emergency rush market, which totaled 870,000 packages delivered per day.
By comparison, at 13,400 deliveries per day, the company s Priority One emergency rush service
accounted for one percent of the total market. Clearly both services have potential to gain more share
of the rush delivery market, but the Courier Pack s untapped potential is nearly limitless. Surely, the
remaining 98 percent or so of customers using competing services for emergency rush delivery,
including Emery Air Freight and USPS Express Service, are not familiar with Fed Ex s less expensive,
and more consistent Courier Pack service, and would switch brands with heightened awareness gained
through careful marketing. Furthermore, FedEx flights were not even loaded to maximum capacity.
Using just 85 percent of capacity, FedEx delivered a combined 20,726 packages and reaped about
376,000 in revenue. Of this amount, Courier Pak deliveries accounted for just 6 percent of daily flight
volume, and 4 percent of daily revenue. Ideally, FedEx should focus on maximizing this unused
capacity with increased Courier Pak deliveries, which would result from a direct marketing campaign.

The Causes And Consequences Of The Great Famine
Food is the most colorful part of the day. With its gastronomic range, the possibilities are endless.
Everyone in the world depends on food, whether to experience that burst of flavor in the mouth or to
survive. But when there is a shortage of food, what is to blame? The people who eat and cultivate it?
Or factors outside their control? The Great Famine is an example of this question.
The Great Famine was caused by blight that accidently came from America and affected the potatoes
growing in Ireland and in turn, affected the Irish. This was especially hard on the Irish because in
1845, the potato was their main source of food. They had an average of 14 spuds a day so they relied

Essay On Manmade And Natural Disaster
Mitigating, and Responding to Manmade and Natural Disasters? The effects of natural and manmade
disasters have become more prevalent, far reaching, and widespread. As a consequence, preserving the
safety, security, and prosperity of all parts of our society is becoming more challenging. Among
various aspects of the U.S emergency management system, communication is one of the most critical
requirements. The word communicate implies conveying thoughts, ideas, warnings, instructions,
orders, command, knowledge and information (mass education and public awareness), warning of
impending threat of disasters, calling various resources and intimation to authorities and conducting
emergency management in general. Management of any disaster or emergency event is a very
complicated and multi faceted task. One of the most overlooked parts of any efficient emergency
disaster response is the exchange of information between different sources, emergency managers and
those impacted by the event. Lack of experience in the capacity of an emergency manager can have its
downside making the event more stressful and uncomfortable. The entire emergency management
process is made further complex when hindered by the lack of effective information distribution and
gathering. The word communication has a very remarkable place in all walks of life. A person is an
element of the society they live, nation and the world and cannot live his or hers in isolation. People

Montana 1948 Loyalty Quotes
Montana 1948 Essay
In the novel, Montana 1948, written by Larry Watson, an important event occurred at the end of the
story in which the character Wesley finally stands up to his power obsessed father, Julian. This event
allowed the readers to comprehend the ideas of loyalty versus justice, power over the oppressed and
the breakdown of family hierarchy.
In Montana 1948 the idea of loyalty versus justice was shown in the event. When Wesley and his
father Julian are disputing about Wesley s brother, Frank, and how he is locked inside the basement,
Wesley states that This isn t about family, this is a legal matter . This implies that Wesley has chosen
Justice over loyalty. Watson s intention for making Wesley choose Justice over loyalty, was to show
how difficult it can be for a person who has a huge amount of responsibility in the field of justice and
choose either loyalty to family or justice disregarding how bad the situation is. This is crucial in
society today, because countless of people who work for the law, will always have the hard decision of

Government Intervention in Theater in Britain and the...
Theater has been a large part of nearly every culture. The maneuvers that this cultural mainstay has
made surely outdo many that other practices have made over the centuries. How the theater progressed
through time and adjusted itself in order to accommodate more people and more ideas, to reach its

aspects related to why and how the theater has always been so successful and played a large part in the

The Life Of Superman Saves Seven Children
Thinking back to my admittedly privileged childhood, the most vivid memory I had wasn t of my first
dance recital, or my first lacrosse game, or even my first fist fight that I won against my seventh grade
bully. It wasn t even of the day when my father was brutally murdered in front of my sister and I when
we were thirteen. No, the most evocative memory I had was the day I purchased the newspaper for my
parents at age twelve and saw, sprawled across the cover, the headline that changed my life forever.
SUPERMAN SAVES SEVEN CHILDREN; PRAISED AS HERO ONCE MORE.
That day, I took my alarmingly large amount of allowance, went down to the novelty store across the
road, and bought sixty seven dollars worth of Superman merchandise. I came home with six comic
books, three old newspapers, an action figure, a skimpy tank top that made its way to college with me
before being puked all over, and a notepad that would later fuel my journalistic obsession to become
as great as Lois Lane, Superman s girl of choice.
A month after acquiring that first newspaper for my parents, my father left the world with a bullet hole
placed cleanly in the center of both eyes.
Soon after my Superman obsession began to dwindle in my first year of college, the masked hero
Batman faced off with his archenemy and made headlines in Gotham, where I attended school. So I
traded in my Superman shorts for a Batman shirt and went searching for him on the streets at night,
desperate.

Hougen HMD115 Magnetic Base Drill: The Verdict
If you re looking for a compact mag drill that can complete numerous tasks, then walk right towards
the Hougen HMD115. Unlike other models that we ve tested before, I can say that this one is truly
perfect for tight spaces. What I personally loved about it is the fact that it uses RotaLoc Cutters, which
requires no tools for removal and installations. I also liked its overall construction. The machine is
very handy and lightweight, making it portable for any drilling operations. Simply put, the HMD115 is

Claude Mckay Enslaved
Have you ever thought about how life would be like if you were a slave? Getting tired of
people controlling your life and wanting to seek your revenge? In Enslaved by Claude McKay,
it talks about a hatred world where white men treated African Americans unkind. African
Americans rarely had any time to spend with their families, couldn t afford to give them a variety
of foods. They felt oppressed, angry, denied; they wanted to seek revenge. Feeling the urge to
have equal rights with every race in the world. In contrast, they hated slavery; felt racial
prejudice against the world; wanted to seek revenge for their own freedom.
In this poem he uses an abundance of rhyme. Which means, a sound between words or at

Oh when I think of
my long suffering race, For weary centuries despised, oppressed, Enslaved and lynched, denied a
human place In the great life line of the Christian West. (Mckay). He uses rhyme to get his point
across that, everyone was mistreated during slavery and disinherited. The long suffering race
(McKay). refers to his own reference. Mckays life was a disaster during the 1800 s. Not only did
he wish to have a better life but others did as well.
Mckay also uses simile in his poem. A figure of speech using like or as . African
Americans compared their lives to a different issue to get their point across. My heart grows
sick with hate, becomes as lead. (Mckay). He is explaining that his heart turned soft while being
destroyed; never had enough money to feed himself or to support his family. Imagine living life
under someone s dictate all day everyday.
Another literary device he uses is metaphor. A figure of speech in which a word is
applied to an object or action which is not literally applicable. He describes his heart turning into
hate when the heart can t physically or emotionally do that. My heart grows sick

What Are The Symbols In Like Water For Chocolate
In the book, Like Water for Chocolate , Laura Esquivel uses symbols as the base for her story. The
main character Tita, had symbols in almost every event in her life. The three symbols that stood out to
me most were: Her hands, the cold inside of her and her cooking. The definition of symbols is: A mark
or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function or process. I feel the symbol
of her hands is a conventional representation of an object. The cold inside of her , is a mark of her
character. The cooking could be symbolized as the function or the processes in her life. There are
symbolic ways of looking at each of these descriptions. Esquivel makes such dramatic use of these
symbols to institute magical realism throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a representation of the lack of passion or love received from Pedro. He was her warmth. Dr.
Brown told Tita; A pleasant warmth grows within us, fading slowly as time goes by until a new
explosion comes along to retrieve it (171). She needed him to keep the fire inside of her lit and the
more he was not there for her, the colder she got. No matter how much she knitted her blanket it could
never mask the cold inside of her. If one doesn t find out what will set off these explosions, the box of
matches dampens, and not a single match will ever be lightened (171). Pedro was the little explosions
inside of her. His kisses, his touch and his love is what kept the fire inside of her burning. In the end of
the story, Pedro dies and immediately Tita is cold. She covers herself in the extremely long blanket she
knitted but needs Pedro to keep herself warm. She would have to find some way, even if it was an
artificial one, of striking a fire that would light the way back to her origin and to Pedro (364). She
takes the candles John bought her and started eating them. She started thinking about Pedro and their
first kiss, and the first time they touched. That started a spark and lit the candles inside of Tita. This
was the way back to her warmth and back to

Legality Of The Threat Or Use Of Nuclear Weapons
Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons , Advisory Opinion, was first brought to the
attention of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by the World Health Organization (WHO) on
September 3, 1993. The ICJ did not decide on the matter at that time because they felt that the WHO
was ultra vires, or acting outside its legal capacity. On December 15, 1994 the United Nations General
Assembly brought the same order to the ICJ and it was accepted. The plantiffs where the United
Nations General Assembly According to the ICJ the ruling read;

In other words, catastrophic events swept through Europe such as the black plague, warfare, and starvation causing a high population of death rates. After an era of destitution, the Renaissance was a period of rebirth where individuals could express their intellectual thought through art, science, literature, and education. It s true that people during that time express humanist ideals of individual achievement, but does the word individual contribute to both men and women (Ramirez 439)? A woman must give birth to several children because during that time only a few children would survive into adulthood. If a woman has children and her husband dies, she would lack a male support in her life. Thus, she would be financially unstable and live a life as a widow (Suite101 2). In a marriage the job of a husband is to provide dominance in a family and to rule or govern his wife in all duties that properly belong to marriage (Camden 112). The husband must provide and care for his wife, but at the same time he must also be in control. In general, women are always under a male power. During childhood she is controlled by her father and after marriage, she submits herself to her husband (Zuber 1). Even in the topic of marriage, women are inferior to men because they live a life of submission and they are seen as items for their husband in order to bear children. Financially the husband manages the assets of his wife and he is usually the breadwinner or the provider in a family (Kuehn 58). Generally, the husband owns the land/property in which he lives on. • 4. Case Study Of BCCI Fraud The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major international banking fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The estimated amount involving the fraud was around £800 million at that time. The bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400 branches and it attracted mainly Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of the bank, hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included local councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted the media spotlight and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking sector. The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its corporate structure and its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early days. Even in later days, it was very hard for regulators to bring BCCI to the book. It was a pandemic that brought dilemma to the businesses, to the employees and to the elated new home owners. JP Morgan Chase was one of the major banks participated in falsifying the mortgage loans, and they suffered consequences for what they did. The mortgage loans gave temporary joy but longtime misery to home buyers. The federal government filed a lawsuit, and it reached a settlement. The tragedy resulted to Global and Financial reforms. The mortgage loans were used in risky businesses. Back in 2008, James Dimon, the head of JPMorgan Chase, disclosed mortgage underwriting was terrible. Mortgage loans are assets that were exploited to make up collateralized debt obligations. They were also destructively utilized in investing of the banks. The mortgages seemed improved, and they were swiftly sold because the bank attuned the critical assessments when an outside analysis exposed intense defects with thousands of home loans. In consequence, millions of Americans were unable to put their homes on market because they had lost so much worth as the housing market dropped. Gretchen Morgenson, writer from NY Times, dubbed the loans as poisonous. Due to the bank malpractices, they faced criticisms. • 15. The True Maeaning of Invisiblity With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him. The Ten Stages of Genocide is an article written by Gregory H. Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, an organization that is fighting to end genocide. In this article, Stanton lists ten stages that will occur in a genocide, starting with the stage of classification and ending with the stage of denial. In Burma, a sovereign state, also known as Myanmar, a minority ethnic group named the Rohingya is being discriminated by the majority of the population and the government in Burma. The Rohingya have been denied Burmese citizenship since 1982, when a law was enacted by the state government that excludes the Rohingya as one of Burma s ethnic groups ( Myanmar Will Not Recognize ). There has also been reports of ethnic cleansing, anti Muslim violence, and forced labor ( Plight ). Because the Burmese government refuses to recognize the Rohingya Muslims as one of their official national races and denies the Rohingya of their rights, the United Nations and Gregory Stanton, president of Genocide Watch, recognize the ethnic discrimination of this group as a growing problem. The United Nations strives to stop the mistreatment of the Rohingya, and Genocide Watch declares that Rakhine State in Burma is in a state of genocide emergency, going through the ten stages of genocide. In order to study and detect how much cellular respiration occurs in an organism, the amount of glucose used, the amount of oxygen consumed, or the amount of CO2 given off can be measured. Bread, wine, and beer are all made from yeast. Yeast must go through cellular respiration and produce CO2 in order for the bread to rise and form properly; however, different monosaccharides may affect the level of CO2, measured in mL, given off by Saccharomyces cerevisiae (found in yeast), while affecting yeast s ability to metabolize during glycolysis. Durham tubes (a sealed, cut off 5 mL, pipette) can be used to measure the amount of CO2 produced as the yeast metabolizes. The approached used was to test the level of CO2 (mL) production, after different solutions with 1.5 mL of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and 4.5 mL and either 1M of glucose, fructose, or galactose go through cellular respiration. The higher level of CO2 produced indicates the more cellular respiration that took place. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. King Lear Tragic Hero Essay A tragic hero is said to be an imperfect character of noble stature, a character with a downfall caused by an error of judgement which is not deserved, and a self realization from the downfall. King Lear from the play King Lear fits this description of a tragic hero. King Lear is a tragic play written by Shakespeare. King Lear is depicted as a tragic hero because of his high status, his downfall which was caused by himself, and his realization from his downfall. King Lear is portrayed as a tragic hero partially because of his imperfectness. Throughout the play, King Lear makes many mistakes, which show his imperfections. His mistakes eventually led to his insanity. He does not even want ot go insane. He says, O, let me not be mad, not mad, sweet heaven keep me in temper: I would not be mad! (I v 1 2). He also believes that this decision was made by choice and not by force. King Lear truly fits this description. King Lear s downfall was dividing his land (and his crown) to his three daughters out of narcissism. Lear wanted his daughters to tell him how much they loved him. He did this by choice, not knowing how evil two of his daughters, Goneril and Regan, really were and how they did not actually love him. His obliviousness was his flaw and trusted his daughters too much. However, King Lear disowned his youngest daughter, Cordelia, even though she was the one who love him most. Lear is outraged when she does not tell him how much she loves him. King Lear says Ingratitude, thou marble hearted fiend, more hideous when thou show st thee in a child than the sea monster! (I iv 4 6). He mistook her honesty for lack of respect, which partially led to his downfall as well. By the end of the play, Lear s mistakes caused him to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Love In Hamlet And Ophelia Love is different for each and every individual. It is so powerful that people cry, suffer pain, or even risk their lives to save it. But there are other kinds of love: elusive love, tortured love, or even the love that you feel for someone but cannot embrace it for fear of other, larger events. It is that kind of love that seems to be the most prevalent in William Shakespeare s Hamlet, especially when it comes to Hamlet s relationship with Ophelia, the daughter of King Claudius s advisor, the ever forgetful and meddling Polonius. The love that Hamlet claimed he had for Ophelia was not only fabricated, but unhealthy, which untimely led to her death. After a long meditation on the nature of being and death, Hamlet catches sight of Ophelia. As she attempts to return some of the remembrances that Hamlet gave when courting her, Hamlet caustically questions Ophelia s honesty. He denies ever having given Ophelia anything and continues to erratically claim that he loved her once before declaring that he never loved her at all. The problem here is that no one knows the exact intent of Hamlet as he claims to love Ophelia amidst a number of happenings that questions how genuine his love towards Ophelia. Not only does he doubt her honesty because he knew about her plan with Polonius and Claudius to eavesdrop on him, he is unsure of her purity and her love for him and he tells her, get thee to a nunnery rather than give birth to sinners ( ). Increasingly agitated, Hamlet condemns marriage itself, saying that no more marriages should be allowed, before exiting the room and leaving Ophelia in shambles. Looking deeper into the behavior that Hamlet demonstrates in this scene, there is completely no love that he shares with Ophelia. In a way, Hamlet seems convinced that Ophelia is the love of her life, but yet he has the behavior of insulting her and not giving her the priority that she needs. His character portrays a man who cannot be connected to his self and this leads him to a number of problems as regards the way he treats Ophelia. It is not just the feelings that Hamlet has towards Ophelia that describes his love for her but his actions say a lot on the feeling that is in the inside. Reaching to an extent that he can ... The Sacramental Research Paper The Sacramental of the Rosary Growing up in a Catholic family and attending Catholic school, my aunt, Sister Antonella Bayer, experienced many sacraments and sacramentals throughout her life. • 26. Equality By Maya Angelou Ethos There is not a single person in the world born evil. It is a person s experiences and the decisions that they make in life that define them as a person, not the way they appear on the outside. And yet, millions of people are judged solely on the colour of their skin or their gender every single day. Maya Angelou worked her entire life to change this deafening life sentence of discrimination. Throughout her poems Equality, Still I Rise, and A Brave and Startling Truth, Maya Angelou develops the theme of the necessity of equality through the use of repetition, metaphor, and point of view. The poem Equality successfully demonstrates the urgent need for equality in the world, and that point is driven home by the repetition of the phrase Equality, and I will be free (9). This phrase is vital, as it shows that only when the world is equal can there be true freedom for everyone. Those discriminated against, such as the African American woman portrayed in Equality, are trapped beneath the weight of those forcing them to be smaller. The woman in this poem is fighting for acknowledgement and to be seen as equal; to no longer be the faint whisper out of range (6). The phrase Equality, and I will be free is repeated in six lines in a poem that is thirty lines, consistently emphasizing the fact that when equality is finally achieved, freedom will come with it.Finally, Maya Angelou uses the poetic device metaphor to allow the audience to visualize the true need for equality. Did you ever wonder if there was a special technique? In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar Antony turns a shocked, confused crowd of mourners into an angry mob of rioters when speaking to them. He does this by using these three persuasive techniques, Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Ethos is a technique that persuades through ethics and morals, Pathos persuades through emotion, and Logos is a technique that uses logic and reasoning. In the play Antony persuades the crowd using a technique called ethos. For example, Antony says I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke, but here I am to speak what I do know . When he said this he was trying to explain that he was not against Brutus s reasoning. This makes the crowd think that Antony is a good guy and he doesn t want trouble which is the technique ethos. The effects of natural and manmade disasters have become more prevalent, far reaching, and widespread. She takes the candles John bought her and started eating them. She started thinking about Pedro and their first kiss, and the first time they touched. That started a spark and lit the candles inside of Tita. This was the way back to her warmth and back to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
